  • iOS 11.3: Top Five Features

    iOS 11.3: Top Five Features

Apple is expected to release the iOS 11.3 update for compatible iPads and iPhones in the next few days. This will be one of the biggest software updates, after iOS 11.2, which introduced Apple Pay cash.

The company was highly criticised for slowing down older iPhones to save battery life without user’s consent. After this fiasco, Apple also decreases the price of battery replacement from Rs 6,000 to Rs 2,000.

The main focus of this update is to resolve that issue, where, owners of older iPhones will be able to toggle between the performance and battery life with a touch a button. Additionally, this also introduces some other features as well. So, here are the top five features to look forward to in iOS 11.3.

    Privacy

If the company decides to introduce a feature, that might interfere with the performance of the device, one might see this option. Additionally, when Apple collects personal data to personalise the user experience, the same icon will be displayed on top of the device. This provides a transparency between the user and company to build a strong foundation of security. Similarly, the setting app icon for privacy has been updated from a grey icon to blue coloured one.

    Battery Health

This feature will help users to get detailed insights on iPhones battery condition. Depending on the condition, a user will be able to toggle the switch between performance and battery life. Additionally, Apple says, manually toggling the switch will affect battery life. This means user’s with older iPhones will be able to get back the device performance without replacing the battery.

    iOS 11.3

    Four new Animojis

This feature is only limited to the iPhone X users. With this new software update, Apple adds four new Animojis characters. Lion, Dragon, Skull, and Panda are the four new characters that have been added to this update.

    Messages on iCloud

iMessages now seamlessly sync with iCloud to free up storage on your phone. This also means that one can access messages on devices like iPad and Mac by signing into your Apple ID. Additionally, if you delete a message on one device, it will be deleted from other devices as well.

    Multi-Room support for AirPlay 2

This is one nifty feature, which helps you to play the same music on more than one Apple devices. If you have a Home Pod and an Apple TV, now you will be able to play music on both devices simultaneously.

  • Huawei Mate 20 Will Have An In-Screen Fingerprint Sensor

Huawei Mate 20 Will Have An In-Screen Fingerprint Sensor

Huawei is all set to launch the Huawei P20 series in France on the 27th of March. This hasn’t stopped the company to work on a newer flagship smartphone which is 6 months due. According to a report, the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 (tentative name) will be the first Huawei smartphone to have an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

Devices like the Vivo X20 UD and the Vivo APEX use a Synaptic sensor called Clear ID. However, Huawei is working with Qualcomm on an ultrasonic technology. Similarly, the Mate 20 could be the first smartphone to have Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint solution.

    Huawei Mate 20
    Vivo X20 Plus UD

The Huawei Mate 20 will launch by the end of Q3 2018. To keep the manufacturing flowchart in the right direction, Qualcomm has already partnered with two Taiwanian company. GIS and China’s O-film Tech are those companies, which have pioneered in touchscreen technology.

    Qualcomm’s Ultrasonic sensor

An ultrasonic sensor would cost 3x times more than the conventional fingerprint sensor. Additionally, one advantage over the normal fingerprint sensor is the fact that the ultrasonic scanner is 0.44mm thick and works even on an 800 micro cover glass. This is a huge advantage over the conventional capacitive sensors, as they can only function if the cover glass is less than 200 microns thick. Another advantage that Qualcomm has over other sensors is the fact that, it can work even with wet or greasy fingers.

Huawei is not the only company that is looking forward to implementing this technology. In fact, according to a recent report, Samsung might have an in-screen fingerprint scanner on their forthcoming Galaxy Note 9 smartphone.

As the year 2017 was all about taller displays, dual cameras and glass back design. It looks like the year 2018 will be the year of a notch and an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

  • Airtel Offering Free 30GB 4G Data To VoLTE Beta Testers

Airtel Offering Free 30GB 4G Data To VoLTE Beta Testers

Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) was first introduced by Jio in India. A typical voice call uses a 2g/3g network. Whereas a VoLTE is based on 4G network, which offers more clarity and sound and takes less time to make a connection between the devices. And now, Airtel is testing VoLTE technology in India. To encourage users to participate in the beta test, the company is offering up to 30GB of free 4G data.

    Airtel VolTE Beta Test

Airtel claims that VoLTE will offer HD voice calls, 3x faster call connectivity and multitasking. VoLTE will enable users to make a voice call without disconnecting active internet connection.

In most of the smartphones, a user has to place 4G enabled Airtel SIM card in the first slot to get onboard with this beta test. After turning on VoLTE option on the smartphone, a user will receive 10GB 4GB data. The additional 20GB will be credited after providing the feedback on 4th and 8th week consecutively. However, a beta tester might experience network irregularities and they have to share that data with Airtel.

    4G Data

Every Airtel subscriber cannot participate in the beta testing. To be an eligible beta tester, one has to have a smartphone with the latest software update and a 4G enabled Airtel SIM. Additionally, Go to Airtel India official website, enter your mobile number to check your eligibility. However, our number was ineligible to participate in the beta test.

Airtel VoLTE is already available in the following states including Karnataka, Maharastra and Andra Pradesh. Similarly, the company is now beta testing in West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Kerala, Bihar, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh.

  • 10 Million Indians Will Own iPhones In 2018

10 Million Indians Will Own iPhones In 2018

The priciest iPhone ever, the iPhone X was well-received all over the world. In 2018, Apple will repeat the trifecta by launching three new iPhones. The design of the iPhones will be identical to the iPhone X. This means that the iPhone SE 2 will be the only new iPhone to feature Touch ID. But, that won’t stop the company from reaching 10 million iPhone users in India.

    iPhone SE

In 2017, there were 8.9 million iPhone users in India. With the launch of three of new iPhones and a price drop of some famous iPhones like the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, this number will increase a lot more. A report by CyberMedia Research claims that Apple will reach the number far quicker if it ramps up its assembly operations in India. If done so, the company will be able to reduce the price of other iPhones as well, just like it did for the iPhone SE.

    iPhone 7 Plus

CyberMedia Research analyst Faisal Kawoosa said:

It’s a remarkable accomplishment for Apple. In a price-sensitive market like India where 56% of the smartphones sold are still sub Rs 10,000.

However, just comparing pure numbers would reveal that Apple’s accomplishment pales in front of that of Xiaomi and Samsung’s. The new market leader, Xiaomi, had 28 million users by the end of 2017. Samsung, on the other hand, has crossed the 100 million-barrier. But, as the report points out, India is a very price sensitive market and Apple only sells premium smartphones here. Even its most affordable offering, the iPhone SE is double the average price of a bestselling smartphone.

    Redmi Note 5 Pro

In fact, the iPhone X recently became the bestselling premium smartphone in India. In Q4 2017, the iPhone X was the top smartphone in the premium segment, with a share of 21% of the shipments. The iPhone X was followed by the OnePlus 5T at 17% and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 at 8%.

The date has been set for the launch of the Huawei P20 and the P20 Pro in France. The company has been teasing these devices ever since the commencement of MWC 2018. And now, the company has chosen a new way of marketing for its upcoming flagship smartphones. The Huawei P20 and the P20 Pro will be the next flagship smartphones from the Chinese smartphone giant. These devices talk a lot about the camera capabilities and display. The company is most likely to introduce newer colour variants of this smartphone, that has never been used on a smartphone. A fascinating fact about these devices is their cameras. Both smartphones have a dual Leica engineered camera. Additionally, the Pro moniker has a triple camera setup with a 40MP sensor.

These phones have a taller display, with a notch that has an earpiece, front-facing camera and other necessary sensors. However, there are possibilities, that these devices might have a 3D facial recognition similar to the Apple iPhone X.

    Huawei P2o Pro Specs

The smartphone is expected to have a 6.1 inch 2240 x 1080 px OLED display with a notch on the top. Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by the Kirin 970 chipset with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. In fact, the smartphone is expected to support native face unlock algorithm similar to the iPhone X. The device is also expected to offer a wide range of AI capabilities, which might improve the smartphone photography.

The Huawei P20 Pro has a 40MP primary sensor, which supports 5x hybrid zoom. Note that, hybrid zoom is obtained with the combination of optical zoom and digital zoom. There is a secondary 8MP sensor, which offers 3x optical zoom, which also helps to create portrait mode. Similarly, there is a third sensor with 20MP resolution. Unlike the other two sensors, this is a monochrome sensor which helps to capture contrast and sharpness.

    Huawei P20 Pro

The sensor comes with f/1.6 aperture and f/2.4 aperture with Leica branding. Huawei recently released a teaser video, which arguably talks about the slow-motion video capabilities of the device. Going by the video, the device is expected to support 1080p @120fps.

However, considering the wallpaper, which says 26th June, the device might get official on the same date.

The video recording is limited to 1080 @ 30fps on both cameras. Additionally, the device has a front-facing fingerprint sensor, embedded into a home button.

The smartphone runs on Android 7 Nougat with Samsung Experience UI on top. Connectivity features like Wi-Fi/ac, Bluetooth 4.1 are also onboard. As the device misses out on the NFC sensor, it has Samsung Pay mini. The device has a 3300 mAh battery with a micro USB port that supports USB OTG.

Smartphone makers like Honor and Xiaomi have been launching smartphones with dual cameras, taller display, faster processor and much more. Devices like the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Honor 7x cost the same but have a much better hardware. The Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is nowhere near those devices in terms of specifications. However, how this device performs in the real world is yet to be seen.

OnePlus 6 Leaked Specs Sheet Reveals Key Details

The OnePlus 6, without a doubt, is one of the most anticipated Android smartphones of 2018. The Chinese smartphone maker has earned the reputation of launching flagship devices at a much more affordable price and the same is expected from the OnePlus 6. However, a recently leaked image has revealed that the OnePlus 6 could cost much more than its predecessor. And now, a sketchy looking specs sheet of the upcoming smartphone has surfaced online.

The smartphone, in all probability, will take key design cues from the recently launched OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition. This means that the OnePlus 6 could have “glass sandwich” design with a metal frame. Considering the presence of glass back panel, the smartphone might also support wireless charging. However, no leaks have backed this feature so far.

    OnePlus 6

    OnePlus 6 Specs

The OnePlus 6 has a 6.28 inch Optic OLED display with 2280 x 1080 px resolution. Going by the Oppo R15 specs, this device will have a 19:9 display with a notch. The notch will house the earpice, front camera and other sensors. However, we cannot rule out the possibility of a much more advanced facial recognition technology which will require extra sensors. In such a case, not a lot of people should have an issue with the notch. Considering OnePlus’s previous devices, the OnePlus 6 will have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on both sides.

Under the hood, the device will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core chipset with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Going by the previous leak, there might be a model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage as well. Additionally, there will be no support for SD card.

  • Apple To Begin Trial Production Of 2018 iPhone Lineup In Q2 Of 2018

Apple To Begin Trial Production Of 2018 iPhone Lineup In Q2 Of 2018

There have been many rumours and speculations about the successors of the Apple iPhone X. Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones at the end of 2018. Two models are expected to have an OLED display, and the third one will have an IPS LCD display. According to a report, the company is expected to begin a trial run production of these three smartphones by the end of Q2 2018. This enables the company to have enough stock at the time of launch.

Apple was hit by the production delay of the Apple iPhone X and the company is taking precautionary steps not to repeat the same mistake. Additionally, the company is also focusing on 3D sensors for Face ID, as all three iPhones are expected support Face ID. The report also adds that there is no surging in the order of internal hardware components. Since Apple is expected to launch the successor of the iPhone SE in Q3 of 2018, the revenue generation is expected to go upwards.

    iPhone
    2018 Apple iPhone lineup
    2018 Apple iPhone Lineup Specs

Except for the display, these three iPhones will have identical specifications. The models with an OLED display will have a 5.85 and 6.45 inch display. Whereas, the LCD model will have a 6.1 inch display. These devices will be powered by a next-generation A12 chipset with 64GB or 256GB storage.

The iPhone with 5.85 inch OLED display will be the most affordable of the lot. To make that happen, Apple might take a step back and use Aluminium frame instead of Stainless steel. The device is expected to have a dual camera setup similar to the iPhone 8 Plus.

The iPhone X Plus (tentative name) with a 6.45 inch OLED display could be the costliest iPhone of this series. Which is expected to have premium features like dual camera setup with dual OIS and. a stainless steel frame.

The iPhone with 6.1 inch display will be priced between these devices. It is expected to have similar internals as of the 5.85 inch iPhone. Additionally, the usage of an LCD panel will drive down the overall cost of production, compared an OLED model.

  • HTC U12+ Renders Imagine Four Cameras And 18:9 Aspect Ratio

HTC U12+ Renders Imagine Four Cameras And 18:9 Aspect Ratio

HTC will launch its next flagship smartphone in July of 2018. According to rumours, the company might directly launch the HTC U12+, instead of HTC U12. Now, people at Technobufallo have rendered what it might look.

Interestingly, the HTC U12+ renders look similar to the HTC U11+, which was launched in India in February 2018. The designer elements have been inspired by the U11+ with additional attributes to make it a class 2018 flagship smartphone. From the initial impression, the device has a glass front, glass back with a metal frame. Additionally, the device has an internal reflective surface, much like the HTC U11+. Considering the glass back, the smartphone is likely to support wireless charging.

    HTC U12+

The dual rear-cameras are the new addition to the device. However, the company is most likely to house a dual rear-camera in the left corner similar to the HTC Desire 12+ rather than the one found on this render. On to the front, the device has an 18:9 aspect ratio display with a dual front-facing camera setup. Similar to the U11+, it has minimal bezels and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. This design represents a smartphone without a notch. However, we can not rule out the possibility of a notch making its way to the design of the HTC U12+.

    HTC U12+ Specs

The HTC U12+ will have a 6 inch display with a 2880 x 1440 px resolution. This means that the company will continue launching 18:9 smartphones, like the HTC U11+.

    HTC U12+

Under the hood, it will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. The new flagship chipset is no longer Samsung-exclusive and is already present in smartphones from Asus and Sony as well. Coupled with this chipset will be up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. However, details about other variants have not been revealed. It will be IP68 rated for water and dust resistance, a staple for modern-day flagship phones.

Now, it is a known fact that Face Unlock is the new trend of the industry. However, it will be interesting to see how HTC implements this feature and how secure it’ll be. On the back of the smartphone will be a dual camera setup of a 12MP sensor coupled with a 16MP Sony IMX3xx sensor. No details about the nature of these sensors have been revealed so far.

  • BlackBerry Ghost Pro With Thin Bezels And No Keyboard To Launch In India

BlackBerry Ghost Pro With Thin Bezels And No Keyboard To Launch In India

BlackBerry, once a giant in the mobile industry has gradually lost control and relevance. With the rise of Android and iOS, BlackBerry OS couldn’t keep up with their advancements. Hence, the company, for the past couple of years, has been making Android-powered smartphones. Now, the BlackBerry Ghost with thin bezels and no physical keyboard has shown up online. The Ghost and Ghost Pro will launch in India before the rest of the world.

    BlackBerry Ghost and Ghost Pro

Evan Blass, a popular leaker posted an image of the BlackBerry Ghost Pro on Twitter. BlackBerry has already launched the Motion, a touchscreen-only device. However, the BlackBerry Ghost and Ghost Pro will be the first devices with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

There are three organisations that have the license to build BlackBerry-branded smartphones. While TCL/BlackBerry and BB Merah Putih have released BlackBerry handsets, Optiemus Infracom hasn’t. It now looks like Optiemus Infracom will finally release its own take on a “BB” smartphone and it could be the most exciting one yet.

While BlackBerry certainly has a market where users prefer physical keyboards, it isn’t that prominent. The industry has widely adopted the 18:9 aspect ratio and it is time BlackBerry does so, too. The upcoming Ghost and Ghost Pro will also have the proprietary BlackBerry security features.

    BlackBerry KEYone
