  • Xiaomi Mi 6X With Metallic Unibody Design Leaked Again

Xiaomi Mi 6X With Metallic Unibody Design Leaked Again

For the past few weeks, the Xiaomi Mi 6X has been in the news for multiple leaks. Its first ever leak revealed a design on the back similar to the iPhone X with a vertically placed dual-camera. Interestingly, even the LED flash appears to be placed between two cameras like the iPhone X. The Mi 5X was launched in mid-2017 so it looks like the Mi 6X launch is a few months away as of now.

However, that doesn’t stop more leaks from surfacing online. A new leak has revealed that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 6X will have a metallic, possibly aluminium, unibody build and design. This is very similar to the build of the Xiaomi Mi 5X and a lot of other mid-range devices. As expected, the fingerprint sensor is placed on the back of the device.

Apart from the design leaks, there hasn’t been a lot of information about the specifications that have been leaked. Even if the Mi 6X is launched with this design, there is no guarantee that India will see a launch of this smartphone. The Mi 5X was launched in India as the Mi A1 with stock Android OS and was well-received. If the Mi 6X comes to India, it will be a successor to the Mi A1 with stock OS again.

What Do We Know About The Xiaomi Mi 6X So Far?

A few days ago, two leaks of the Xiaomi Mi 6X revealed that the device will continue the trend of having dual cameras and a tall display. The new images seemingly confirm that and it appears that the Mi 6X will have an 18:9 5.99 inch display. The company could use an IPS LCD panel, similar to its predecessor and a lot of other Xiaomi mid-range devices.

The Xiaomi Mi6X will be powered by the recently leaked Surge S2 chipset. The Surge S2 will have an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A73 cores running at 2.2 GHz and four Cortex-A53 at 1.8 GHz. Accompanying the chipset will be the Mali-G71 MP8 GPU which is a great improvement over the Mali-T860 from the Surge S1.

    Previous Leaks

The Xiaomi Mi 5X was launched in July of 2017 and the Mi 6X is expected to be launched at a similar time. If so, then the Mi A1 (2018) or Mi A2 will be launched in India in September.

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 To Be Launched In India On 14th February

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 To Be Launched In India On 14th February

Xiaomi has hinted at a possible launch of the highly anticipated Redmi Note 5. The company has sent out press invites for a launch event happening on the 14th of February with a big “5” written. This may be a not-so-subtle hint that the company could launch the Redmi Note 5.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was launched in early-2017 and this does seem like the ideal timing for the Redmi Note 5 launch. However, Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in Malaysia. This means that the company could launch the Redmi 5 in India instead of the Redmi Note 5.

Launching the Redmi Note 5 would obviously make more sense since the Redmi Note 4 is still the most successful Xiaomi device in India. Recently, there have been a few leaks regarding the Redmi Note 5 and it appears that the device could come in two variants.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5: Rumour Roundup

The smartphone is expected to have a 5.99 inch display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution which translates into an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the phablet will have two variants. One will run on the Snapdragon 630 chipset, have 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. The other one will be powered by the Snapdragon 636 chipset, have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Both the variants are expected to support storage expansion via microSD card.

The device will run MIUI 9 out of the box. There is still no word on whether it’ll run Android 8 Oreo or Android 7 Nougat.

The Redmi Note 5 could also be the first Redmi phone to feature a dual-camera setup. It is expected to have a 16MP primary sensor that will be accompanied by a 5MP sensor. To the front will be an 8MP camera.

Xiaomi knows that once launched, the smartphone will be met with a lot of demand. Hence, there are reports claiming that it is stocking as many units of the Redmi Note 5 as possible. The rumoured price could be a bit off, especially for the Indian market. Xiaomi would want to launch the Redmi Note 4 successor at a price of about Rs.11000-12000, similar to what it did with the Redmi Note 4.

  • Android 8 Oreo Update For OnePlus 5T Resumes After It Was Suspended

Android 8 Oreo Update For OnePlus 5T Resumes After It Was Suspended

On the 30th of January OnePlus announced that an Android 8 Oreo update for the OnePlus 5T had begun. The update was due to arrive along with OxygenOS 5.0.2. However, due to some bugs, the rollout was suspended. Now, after swiftly working on the issues, the company has started rolling out OxygenOS 5.0.3 which also brings Android 8.09 Oreo update with it.

    [amazon_link asins=’B0756ZFXVB’ template=’ProductAd’ store=’igyaan-21′ marketplace=’IN’ link_id=’2f3110dc-0a31-11e8-8fb5-45f02124f412′]

This is is not the first time that an OEM had to suspend Android 8 Oreo rollout for its devices. Most notably, it has been smartphones with stock Android OS which have had a lot of issues. Xiaomi Mi A1 runs stock Android OS and after the initial Oreo update, the company had to suspend it due to a lot of complaints.

If you had already updated to OxygenOS 5.0.2, the new update weighs in at about 39MB. For users moving from Android 7 Nougat, the update will be much bigger in size.

    OnePlus 5T Specifications

    The OnePlus 5T has a 6-inch Full Optic AMOLED display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 5T has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, a 2.4GHz octa-core processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of onboard storage which cannot be expanded. Due to thin bezels, there is no place for a home button and the fingerprint sensor has now been shifted to the back of the phone and is placed right above OnePlus logo.

Powering the device is a 3300 mAh battery which supports OnePlus’ DashCharge technology. The OnePlus 5T also features facial recognition for unlocking the device. The alert slider retains its place at the top left side of the phone.

One big change in the OnePlus 5T is in the camera department. Unlike the OnePlus 5, the OnePlus 5T no longer has a secondary telephoto lens at the back. Instead, OnePlus has decided to focus on the device’s low-light photography capabilities. The cameras do not have OIS and OnePlus has decided to go for EIS on the dual camera setup at the back. The device has a 16MP camera with an f/1.7 aperture coupled with a 20MP sensor with the same f/1.7 aperture and field of view, ie no optical zoom. On the front is a 16MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

  • Limited Gold Edition Razer Phone Launched

Limited Gold Edition Razer Phone Launched

Razer has also jumped the “limited edition” bandwagon with a new variant of its Razer Phone. The company launched the Razer Phone was launched in November 2017 as a smartphone made for gamers. Although the device did not have a modern design with thin bezels, it had top-notch specifications.

Now, the company has launched a limited edition “Gold” version of the Razer Phone. However, unlike a lot of other OEMs, this limited edition variant comes in the same colour as the regular one. The Razer Phone 2018 Gold Edition comes in a special red-sleeved box with golden Razer stickers. In a subtle move, the Razer logo is now gold in colour. It is priced at US$ 699.99 and has gone on sale through the Razer international store.

    Razer Phone

Companies like OnePlus and Honor have launched limited edition variants of their popular smartphones as well. OnePlus launched the Star Wars edition while Honor will soon launch the red colour variant of the Honor 7X in India close to Valentines Day. Razer has taken a different route with its limited edition variant.

    Razer Phone:

The smartphone has a 5.72-inch IGZO display with 120Hz refresh rate which reinstates that the phone is targeted at gamers. Another interesting aspect here is the front-firing dual speakers. With bezels getting thinner, the trend of front-firing stereo speakers appears to be dying as well.

Under the hood, the Razer Phone has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 8GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage which can be expanded up to 2TB via microSD card. A heat pipe and two-layer heat spreader ensure that the smartphone does not overheat in continuous use and under full load. Bad news for fans of the good old headphone jack, because the Razer phone doesn’t have a 3.5mm jack on the phone itself.

The device is powered by a 4000 mAh battery and runs Android 7.1 Nougat.

    Razer Phone

Razer also introduced a “game booster” feature which refers to additional software functions that adjust the clock rate of the processor and the resolution of the display, depending on the app requirements. The user can define whether the four performance cores of the Snapdragon 835 SoC should perform their service at full or lower clock rate.

The Razer phone has a dua l12MP wide-angle lens + 12MP telephoto lens setup at the back. The wide angle lens is the full beam lens with an aperture of f/1.75 and the telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.6. The telephoto lens allows for portrait mode images and also bokeh effect photos. On the front of the device is an 8MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

There is still no word on the smartphone’s launch in India as of now.

  • Leaked: Cases For Huawei P20 With Triple-Lens Camera Leaked

Leaked: Cases For Huawei P20 With Triple-Lens Camera Leaked

Huawei will be launching a new smartphone on the 27th of March. Everyone is anticipating the company to launch the Huawei P11 or P20. The latest leak reveals the design of the upcoming smartphone.

According to the new leaked images of the protective cases for the Huawei P20, the smartphone will have a tall display and a triple-lens camera. An interesting aspect in the images is the placement of the fingerprint sensor. According to these images, Huawei will place the fingerprint sensor on the front, housed inside the bottom bezels.

    Huawei P20

Other than that, a good news is that the company will retain the headphone jack for the P20. These images also confirm that the Huawei P20 will come with a triple-lens camera.

A recent advertisement design was leaked which revealed that an upcoming Huawei phone will have a triple-lens camera at the back. According to the images, the next generation P11 will feature a 40MP Leica triple-lens camera setup with 5x hybrid zoom and a 24MP front-facing sensor.

Huawei announced its new facial recognition technology and claimed that it is faster and more accurate than Apple’s Face ID. While it did not reveal which smartphone will be the first one to feature this technology, many speculate that the Huawei P11 might be the first phone to come with Huawei’s own rendition of Face ID and the famous animojis.

There were rumours that just like the iPhone X, Huawei P20 will also have a notch at the top of the display to house all the sensors required for facial recognition.

With a launch date confirmed, the Huawei P20 seems more or less confirmed. More leaks are expected to be revealed as we move closer to the launch.

  • Apple Posts Record Profit Despite Decreased iPhone X Shipments

Apple Posts Record Profit Despite Decreased iPhone X Shipments

Apple launched the iPhone X back in September at a record price of US$ 999 for the base variant. The iPhone X presented a huge design change from all the previous iPhones and caught the imagination of a lot of consumers. Post the launch of the device, people were divided on the presence of Face ID and the removal of Touch ID.

    Apple
    iPhone X

There were reports that Apple had reduced the production of the iPhone X due to the low demand for it in prominent markets. However, despite the recent activities, Apple recorded profit for the first fiscal quarter of 2018 (fourth calendar quarter of 2017). Apple announced that it sold 77.3 million iPhones during this phase.

    Luca Maestri, Apple’s CFO said:

Thanks to great operational and business performance, we achieved all-time record profitability during the quarter, with EPS up 16 percent.

In the same phase, Samsung shipped 74.7 million phones, 2.6 million fewer than Apple’s 77.3 million. Other OEMs like Huawei and OPPO shipped far fewer devices at 41 million and 29.5 million, respectively. Apple also had the highest average selling price of its iPhones during the quarter at US$ 796.

the American tech giant’s rise is commendable especially considering the industry trend. Overall global smartphone shipments declined year over year, falling from 438.7 million units in the fourth quarter of 2016 to 400.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2017. However, over the course of 2017, smartphones shipments grew by 1% to 1.5 billion units.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 And Redmi 5 Plus Could Launch In India Soon

In early-December, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in China. Right after the launch, there were rumours that the Redmi 5 Plus will be launched in India as the Redmi Note 5. However, that won’t happen and the Redmi Note 5 appears to be closing in on its launch. It also appears that the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will be launched in India soon.

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in Malaysia at a starting price of MYR 679 (Rs. 11000). This move means that Xiaomi wants to take these devices in the global market. Xiaomi in India has a strong foothold and would want to launch the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in India as well. However, the pricing will be key for both the devices.

    Xiaomi Redmi 5

    Redmi 5 Plus

    The Xiaomi Redmi 5 has a 5.7-inch 1440 x 720 px display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the Redmi 5 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset, a 1.8GHz octa-core processor, Adreno 506 GPU, 2GB or 3GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage which will be expandable via microSD card. There is a fingerprint sensor placed at the back of the phone just below the camera.

Powering the device is a 3300 mAh battery which, Xioami claims has a standby time of up to 12 days. The battery is charged via a micro USB slot which means no fast charging. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack placed next to the charging port as well.

The Redmi 5 has a 12MP camera at the back with 1.25-micron pixel size. The camera records 1080P videos at 30fps. To the front of the device is a 5MP camera with Beautify 3.0, which is Xiaomi’s software for enhanced selfies.

    Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus

    Redmi 5 Plus

The bigger sibling of the two is the Redmi 5 Plus. It has a 5.99-inch display with a 2160 x 1080px resolution which again, translated to an 18:9 aspect ratio. Similar to the Redmi 5, its display also has rounded corners.

Leaked: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Renders Reveal Thin Bezels And Dual Cameras

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is one of the most successful smartphones in the Indian market. Launched in early-2017, it hit the sweet spot of great performance and great price. Its successor, the Redmi Note 5 is expected to be launched in the next month, similar to the Redmi Note 4. So far, there have been a few renders but, nothing too concrete has come out from the leaks.

A few renders of the alleged Redmi Note 5 have now surfaced, which reveal a new design and a dual-camera setup. With the Redmi Note 5 expected to be priced at around Rs. 12000, this design with good specs could make it a worthy follow-up to the Redmi Note 4. The latest renders reveal that the Redmi Note 5 will have extremely top and bottom bezels with minimal bezels on the side.

    Redmi Note 5

To the back will be a dual-camera setup and a fingerprint sensor below it. So far, these renders look the closest to a finished product.

The Redmi Note 5 came under a lot of speculation when Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5 Plus in China. On its forum, a moderator said that the Redmi Note 5 won’t launch this year. He then said that the Redmi 5 Plus will be launched in other markets under the Redmi Not 5 moniker. It looks like that was just a false alarm and that the Redmi Note 5 will indeed be launched.

The leaked images, however, look too good to be true. While the Redmi Note 5 will come with an 18:9 aspect ratio, the design will be similar to the Redmi 5 Plus. This means relatively thinner bezels all around the display.

  • Samsung Galaxy S9 Leak Suggests A Rs. 69000 Starting Price in India

Samsung Galaxy S9 Leak Suggests A Rs. 69000 Starting Price in India

Samsung is all set to reveal whatever little is left to the secrecy of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9. The successor to the highly successful Galaxy S8 will be launched later this month. According to reports the price of the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be £789 in the UK, which is a cool £100 more than the price of the Samsung Galaxy S8 when it launched in 2017.

A higher price tag could mean a few things; Samsung has some really interesting and unique technology in the next flagship. Perhaps more understandably Samsung is trying to reach in Apple’s price segment to get a share of the premium customers.

    Galaxy S9
    Renders

A direct conversion of that price would land the smartphone in India at price starting Rs. 72000. At a price of roughly US$ 1100 Samsung will directly compete with the Apple iPhone X in the US. However, if the past data is to be regarded, Samsung will sell the Galaxy S9 at lower prices in other countries.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Price in India

In India we expect the S9 to sell for Rs. 69,000. Considering Samsung’s Make in India initiatives to allow for some tax and pricing benefits. Despite a lower price, the net amount which in countries like India must be paid outright remains out of reach for many.

    Galaxy S9

Samsung will sell fewer units of the smartphone due to this high price, but will still remain profitable as the margins will remain good for the company.

Leaked: Another Xiaomi Mi 6X Case Reveals iPhone X-Like Dual Cameras

For the past couple of weeks, the Xiaomi Mi 6X has been in the news. The mid-range device from Xiaomi will succeed the Mi 5X from 2017 and might even be launched in India as the Mi A2. After the initial leak, two live images of the smartphone revealed the design of the smartphone and a new leak corroborates with all the previous information about the phone.

    Xiaomi Mi 6X

The new leak of the case of the Mi 6X reveals an iPhone X-like dual-camera setup on the back along with a fingerprint sensor. The initial images did not reveal a fingerprint sensor which led many believe that Xiaomi could use Clear ID this time around. However, that will not happen and Xiaomi will continue to use a rear-facing fingerprint sensor.

A fingerprint sensor on the back doesn’t guarantee thin bezels, not in the case of Xiaomi at least. Even phones like the Redmi Note 4 or the MI A1 had a rear-facing fingerprint sensor while maintaining giant bezels on the front. But, the Mi 6X could be a mid-range smartphone from Xiaomi to sport an 18:9 aspect ratio although the current leaked image doesn’t reveal any details about it.

    Xiaomi Mi 6X

A report claims that Xiaomi is looking to par the Surge S2 with the Kirin 960 by Huawei.

To support that argument, HMD Global has recently trademarked a Nokia phone with model number TA-1005 as the ‘Nokia 8 Sirocco’.  Incidentally, TA-1005 was the speculated model number of the Nokia 9. For context, Sirocco is a reference to the Nokia 8800 Sirocco edition which was launched in 2006.

It was a premium looking variant of the Nokia 8800 which featured a glossy steel body along with a sapphire glass on top of the display. The Nokia 8 Sirocco edition could be a premium variant of the Nokia 8 or an updated version.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco edition is expected to feature a 5.2 inch display with an OLED display made by LG. Other specifications could remain the same as the Nokia 8. This means that HMD Global could delay the launch of the Nokia 9 for another event.
