Samsung Teases November Launch of ‘On’ Series Smartphones

Samsung unveiled its ‘On’ lineup of budget smartphones last week. The On5 was even briefly listed on Flipkart last week with the name ‘Samsung Galaxy On5 G550’ without any mention of the price. Last night, Samsung India sent out a tweet that suggests that the low-range smartphones will see a November 3 launch.

The tweet doesn’t give away much and you can expect Samsung India to make a few more announcements in the days leading up to November 3. The On series phones also promises an ‘exhilarating music experience’, which points out what the devices main attraction is going to be, apart from it’s price tag.

For those unaware, the Galaxy On5 and On7 are equipped with a 1.3 GHz 32-bit quad-core Samsung Exynos 3475 processor paired with a Mali-T720 MP1 GPU and 1.5 GB of RAM. The phones come with a low 8 GB internal storage, but are expandable up to 128 GB via MicroSD slot.

Furthermore, the On7 and On5 feature 5.5-inch and 5.0-inch Super AMOLED display, respectively. Another point of difference between them is the camera. The Galaxy On5 has an 8-megapixel rear camera while the On7 houses a 13-megapixel sensor rear, and they both sport a 5-megapixel front. Meanwhile, the On7 has a bigger 3000mAh battery compared to On5’s 2,600mAh.

The expected prices of the On5 and On7 stand at $150 (approx. Rs. 10,000) and $200 (approx. Rs. 13,000), respectively. You can expect the Indian pricing to be made official in the next few days. Follow this space for more on the On series launch.

  • New Leak Gives a Glimpse at What Samsung Note 5 Might Look Like

New Leak Gives a Glimpse at What Samsung Note 5 Might Look Like

Samsung’s next flagship phablet is one of the most talked-about topic right now. Many speculations and rumours about the device’s features and launch date have been uncovered till now. But, the main cloud of mystery is related to the appearance of the device.

Thanks to a French blog, NoWhereElse, we can now somewhat draw up an image of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 in our minds.

The blog shows the rendered images of a case that is designed for the Galaxy Note 5. From the case, we can somewhat deduce that the Note 5 could have almost the same body design as the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. There is also a cut-out for an S Pen stylus at the bottom and a speaker positioned in the same area. It is a notable change since the previous Note devices had its speaker at the back. It is likely that the Note 5 will come with a semi-protuding camera unit, again, like the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The rendered image also shows a microUSB port, so the device may not feature USB Type C charging.

Although there is some time before the smartphone is unveiled, we already have a vague picture of what’s ahead. As far as the spec rumours go, it is said that the Note 5 will be featuring a 5.9-inch Super AMOLED display with curves on both the edges. An improved version of Samsung’s Exynos 7422 is speculated to administer the computing operations. It is said to have a mammoth battery of 4100mAh, which is necessary for a phablet with these specifications.

Amid rumours and reports, we brought to you the arrival date of the Note 5, i.e. September 4, and we also learnt that the 32GB Galaxy Note 5 variant will launch at Rs. 64,999 in India. With the iPhone 6s launch scheduled for the same month, we’re now impatiently waiting for September to arrive.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Expected to Launch on 4th September

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Expected to Launch on 4th September

In the past several days, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has managed to gather a lot of attention. We’ve heard several rumours about Samsung’s upcoming flagship’s features, as well as its launch date. Some reports even suggested that we might see the Note 5 as early as July. We finally have a clarity on its launch date.

If the pattern is to be monitored, Samsung has always used the IFA trade show, held in Berlin, as a platform to launch the Galaxy Note series. The first Galaxy Note was released at IFA Berlin 2011, and the Galaxy Note 2 was released in 2012 at the IFA Berlin. Similarly, all the rest of the devices in this range have all been released at their corresponding IFA events. Hence, it’s a logical conclusion to make that Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is getting prepped for the same event, which begins on 4th September this year.

    Samsung Galaxy Note Edge 8

Although the event is two months away, we already have a hazy picture of what’s ahead. As far as the spec rumours go, it is said that the Note 5 will be featuring a 5.9-inch Super AMOLED display with curves on both the edges. An improved version of Samsung’s Exynos 7422 is speculated to administer the computing operations. A latest report also suggests that the Note 4 successor might sport a USB Type-C port. It is said to have a mammoth battery of 4100mAh, which is necessary for a phablet with these specifications. The features might sound exciting, however there is a good reason we recommend you don’t wait to pick up the device at launch.

With its improved features and better specs, the Galaxy Note 5 will definitely be an upgrade from its predecessor. But, we will have to wait and watch how the new high-end phablet appeals to the masses.

  • Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Official India Launch Slated for 23rd March

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Official India Launch Slated for 23rd March

Samsung is rolling out the sixth-generation flagship smartphones, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, to more countries of the world. The South Korean firm showcased the handsets in MWC 2015, and now we have learnt that Samsung will launch the devices in India on 23rd of this month.

While the company will be holding a special event on the coming Monday, they will not go on sale until April 10, as earlier stated by the company. Along with Galaxy S6 and the curvy S6 Edge, the Samsung event is expected to see the release of accessories as well, which includes flip cases and covers.

    Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge side

Samsung may also launch the new virtual reality headset for Galaxy S6. This headset is different from the VR Gear released for Galaxy Note and is specially designed to fit the smaller screen of the S6.

As far as the pricing is concerned, the Galaxy S6 will cost somewhere around Rs. 52,999, while its curvy counterpart is likely to get a price tag of Rs. 61,999.

Both the Galaxy S6 and its curvy companion are power packs and feature almost similar specifications. Both the handsets sports 5.1-inch QuadHD Super AMOLED with 577ppi resolution. The S6 is equipped with a 64-bit Exynos octa-core processor (1.5GHz quad-core Cortex A-53 and 2.1GHz quad-core Cortex A-57), while the edgier S6 is powered by the 2.5 GHz Exynos octa-core processor. The RAM of either of the devices stands same at 3GB, and both of them run on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

Both S6 and S6 Edge come in three variants with inbuilt memory – 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. The devices don’t have external memory support. Optics of the S6 and S6 Edge are identical at 16MP rear with F1.9 and 5MP front camera. In case you missed the hands-on video, check the video below:

  • What to Expect from the Samsung Galaxy S6

What to Expect from the Samsung Galaxy S6

Although Samsung has been facing stiff competition from the numerous smartphones released this year, it still continues to lead race among the android devices. Samsung’s devices last year were criticized for being iterative and over-priced. Now Samsung seems to be working on the Galaxy S6, codenamed ‘Project Zero‘ signifying the development of the device from scratch — putting lots of thoughts into its design and materials.

Finally realising their mistakes, Samsung has been mending its ways with the launch of  Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 smartphones, which dropped the plastic body to include the premium metal frame. The company has long been criticized for using cheap plastic body on their devices and it is expected that Samsung will be bringing quite a drastic change in their devices’ design and materials.

Rumours surrounding the new Samsung flagship has been taking rounds of the internet for several months now. Although most rumours cannot be verified or validated, they give us some idea what we can expect from Samsung 2015 Galaxy S6 flagship.

    galaxy-s5-review-14-1050x591

    Project Zero

Project Zero is, according to the rumors, Samsung’s top priority these days. More specifically, it is  a codename for the Galaxy S6, according to sources. Previous flagship phones have gone by the names such as Project J, Project H, Project K and Project T in the past few years. as mentioned above, Project zero signifies that the company’s plan to build this phone from the grassroot.

The failure of Galaxy S5 coupled with the bad sales figures and constant backlash from critics, Samsung recently replaced its mobile design leader Chang Dong-hoon with deputy Lee Min-hyouk. It is safe to say that Samsung indeed is aiming to redefine its brand image with this new flagship. However, whether it will be successful; only time will tell!

    Design

Recent chatter in the rumour mill has hinted that the new Samsung flagship may come with a flexible display. At a recent event for Samsung investors, Lee-Chang Hoon, vice president of Samsung Display’s, said: “We plan to provide consumers with a product that has a flexible display by the end of the year.” Along with his, the Galaxy S6 is expected to sport a flexible OLED  that would allow the device to fold and bend. However, it’s also widely believed, especially since the all-metal Galaxy Alpha debuted, that the Galaxy S6 will feature a metal frame.

    Samsung-Galaxy-S6 (1)

    Display

Considering the trend over the last five generations, the screen size of Galaxy S handsets have grown from 4-inches to 5.1-inches. The Galaxy S6 is expected with a 5.2 or 5.3 inch display. Samsung has also previously said it will have 4K 3840 x 2160 displays on the market by 2015. It is therefore, possible that the Galaxy S6 will bypass 2K and feature a 4K screen. That said, South Korean news outlet Daum has predicted it’ll have a curved screen with a Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The screen has also purportedly leaked on an AnTuTu benchmark test with a 5.5-inch QHD display.

    Camera

The camera has always been Samsung’s strong selling point. We expect the company to improve the present 16Mp snapper that comes with Galaxy S5. The AnTuTu leak has hinted  20-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel selfie snapper.

    Processor

The new flagship is expected to come with a Snapdragon 810 or Exynos 7420 processor, with octa-core technology. Although internal storage is not expected to be increased beyond 128GB. That said, the AnTuTu leak shows the S6 with a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor and ARM Mali T-760 GPU backed by 3GB of RAM. Samsung, however, has been raving about 4GB RAM developments so we’d expect them to appear in the S6. It also was shown with 32GB storage.

    Price and Release date

According to a recent leak, the Samsung Galaxy S6 release date is slated for Q2 2015. As for when the phone will actually launch, the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 both launched in April 2013 and April 2014, respectively, so following this pattern, the Galaxy S6 should go on sale in April 2015. It will likely be priced similarly to the Galaxy S5.

The company has pledged that it will be bringing several changes to the future device to lure in more customers, after a huge setback during the Q3 earnings. Over the past years, the company has been criticised for the use of cheap plastic material in the high-end phones. With the new flagship on its way, the company is expected to make a lot of changes in design to compete in the market ruled by impressive devices like iPhone 6, HTC One and Sony Xperia Z series. This flagship may be a critical device to decide the fate of Samsung smartphones in this highly competitive market.

  • Samsung To Replace Galaxy Alpha with the More Affordable Galaxy A5

Samsung To Replace Galaxy Alpha with the More Affordable Galaxy A5

Galaxy Alpha marked the start of whole new design policy for Samsung. Even though, there were couple of shortcomings, such as the battery life and its full flagship price; it did compete in the high-end smartphone segment with more complete devices.

Now, just 3 months after its launch, Samsung has decided discontinue the Galaxy Alpha and replace it with more affordable successor Galaxy A5.

The 5-inch A5, which launched in China last month, is a continuation of the Alpha’s design philosophy, emphasizing its sleekness and high-quality metal construction. However, the Galaxy A5’s decent specs allow it to be more affordable and give the company a chance to garner larger market which Galaxy Alpha failed to do.

Samsung galaxy A5 sports a 5-inch display with HD (1280×720 pixels) screen resolution. Under the hood, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor runs the phone, paired with 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card. On the camera front, the phone packs a 13-megapixel shooter at the rear and a 5-megapixel snapper upfront. It comes with a 2,300mAh battery to keep the device running. On the software front, the phone comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. The phone will be available in five colour variants.

Galaxy A5 launched in China for 400,000 won (approx. Rs. 24,000). There’s plenty of work ahead for the company  but if the company lives up to the promise made, 2015 will be a fundamentally different year to the repetitively iterative products the company has been serving up in recent times.

  • Samsung to Bring its Tizen-Powered Device to India on 10th December

Samsung to Bring its Tizen-Powered Device to India on 10th December

Samsung is under a lot of stress lately. The past couple of years haven’t been very friendly to the company’s business number. The consumer electronics giant has steadily lost market share in the smartphone game over the past few months. The company has decided to go back on the drawing board and recreate its next flagship from scratch. The company is also making a bet with a new operating system to create an alternative to the Android operating system.

The company is ready to launch a new Tizen OS powered device. It has already been using the OS on some of its wearables. Samsung says that this smartphone will be in the affordable range and come at a price of around Rs. 5000.

The phone will be called Z1. It was previously codenamed Kiran. According to Sammobile, Samsung will hold an event on the 10th of December to unveil the device.

The Operating system looks like Touchwiz on Android and doesn't looks as inviting as other UI's in the market.
The Operating system looks like Touchwiz on Android and doesn’t looks as inviting as other UI’s in the market.

According to the reports, the Z1 will have a 4 inch WVGA display with a resolution of 800x480p. The device will be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Spreadtrum SC7727S processor along with a Mali-400 GPU and 512MB RAM. It will have a primary camera of 3.2 MP and have a VGA front camera.

You can find several Indian competitors at the price that Samsung is offering the new Z1. The specs are low for the device to take on any kind of multimedia. Although low-resolution videos and games may have a chance on the Z1.

Samsung has the capital and the backbone to beat companies like Xiaomi and Moto at their own game but somehow it refuses to do it. It is not sure as of yet as to how much support or apps are available for the Tizen ecosystem, and that should dissuade people further from adopting the new OS. It’s good that Samsung is attempting to provide alternatives in the times of the Android dominance, but it seriously need to bring devices that are aspirational at any price point. Tizen too looks like TouchWiz, which has become exceptionally boring in recent times. Samsung, if you want our money, you got to earn it.

  • Samsung Launches 75 inches LED Smart TV in Indian Market

Samsung Launches 75 inches LED Smart TV in Indian Market

    samsung

Samsung on Wednesday launched a 75-inch LED smart TV – the largest television available in India so far – as it looks to strengthen itself in a segment where it is currently the only player. The E-series smart TV also marks the debut of the Korean electronics major’s latest 9 series in India, which runs till 14.
Mahesh Krishnan, vice-president — consumer electronics, Samsung India, said, “The ES 9000 has new interactive features like face, voice and gesture recognition that eliminates the need for a remote control. It features 1,600 apps, 3D downloadable content and a smart evolution feature with upgradable kit.”
The TV also lets the viewers check Facebook and play games on the large LED screen. Priced at Rs7.5 lakh, ES 9000 is the most expensive in Samsung’s smart TV range, which includes LED and plasma models priced between Rs37,700 and Rs2,73,000. Samsung is confident of selling a minimum of 1,000 units of the ES in the next 6-12 months.

Samsung also said that it will introduce ultra high definition television sets in India by the end of next year after it rolls out the technology globally in 2013. Samsung has already developed the technology for ultra high-definition television (UHDTV), which has a minimum resolution of 3840×2160 pixels or 8.3 megapixels.

“We have developed the technology and are ready with it. We are planning to introduce it globally sometime next year and the India-launch will happen by the end of next year,” Samsung India Electronics General Manager (AV Division) Taeho Park told reporters here. The company is not launching UHDTV immediately as the content is not yet available for it, he added.

“Many of our competitors are also working on this technology, which uses four times more pixels than the high definition TVs. Samsung has developed it in Korea and we will sell UHDTVs in India by importing them from Korea,” Park said. He, however, declined to share details such as possible price range or the size of the panels.

Exclusive : Samsung Galaxy SIII Launching in India 1st week of June, Prices out

So its time again for some inside news. Several of our sources are talking up the Samsung Galaxy SIII and the fact that it will be showing up in India early Next Month.

According to our Samsung insiders, the company will hold a launch event sometime in the 1st week of June and immediately have the device available in the market. The pricing information also seems to be hinting that the device will be launched at Rs. 35999/- as the MRP on the boxed unit of the Galaxy SIII.

The Samsung Galaxy SIII, an upgrade to the superbly popular Samsung Galaxy SII, was launched last week at an even held in London.

The company has taken a different approach to the design of its handset and instead of the boxy design have now gone with a more fluid and organic design with rounded edges. The S3 comes with a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED Display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 px making it 306 pixels per inch. An 8MP camera with HD video and a 1.9MP front camera for HD Video calling.

As far as the chipset is concerned, the Exynos 4212 Quad core with 1.4GHz clock speed goes under the hood along side a Mali-400MP GPU. Three storage options 16/32/64 GB storage and 1 GB RAM give the buyer possibly the best set.

Also according to our sources the Galaxy SIII will only be available in the 16GB version in India.
