On March 25, HMD Global announced that it will unveil the Nokia X71 at a launch event to be held in Taiwan on April 2. Furthermore, the company is also planning to officially launch its flagship, the Nokia 9 Pureview with a Penta-lens setupat the event. While the Nokia 9 Pureview will go up against flagship smartphones, the Nokia X71 will target the premium midrange section of the smartphone market.
Camera And Features
Till now, HMD Global has not released a full-display touchscreen smartphone, so it will be interesting to see the Nokia X71 in action. In addition to a punch-hole (which was previously seen on devices such as Galaxy S10 and the Honor View 20), the X71 is expected to sport a triple camera setup with a 48MP Zeiss sensor as the primary shooter. The second sensor will be able to take super wide-angle shots as wide as 120 degrees. As of now, no details regarding the third sensor are available.
Possibilities are floating around regarding the fact that the Nokia X71 will debut as the Nokia 8.1 Plus, which will be a specced-up variant of the Nokia 8.1. As per reports, the Nokia 8.1 Plus may feature a 6.22 inch Full HD+ display. It is also expected that the global variant of the same will have a dual camera setup instead of the triple camera setup on the X71. In 2018, the company introduced the Nokia 8.1 as the X7 in China, hinting at the fact that it may happen again with the 8.1 Plus.
Since most specifications of the device are unknown, the predecessor gives a neat idea of the specifications of the upcoming X71. The Nokia 8.1 had a 10 nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 under the hood, so it is possible that the 8.1 Plus may sport a similar chipset or the upgraded Snapdragon 712 chipset, which was recently spotted in the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE. The device will probably run Android 9.0 Pie straight out of the box. Looking towards the price point of its predecessor, the Nokia 8.1 Plus/X71 may be priced somewhere in the 25k-30k price segment.
Apple’s Show Time Event saw the company launching its news subscription service, called Apple News Plus with a collection of over 300 magazines. The service aims to provide a high quality curated news experience, which forms the basis of any News application. With a premium catalogue of magazines such as the National Geographic, the Vogue, and the New Yorker, Apple News Plus launched the service in the US and Canada on March 25. In addition, the company also launched its own credit card application, known as the Apple Card, the much-awaited Apple TV+ Streaming service and the Apple Arcade, which is a game subscription service.
About Apple News Plus
The application will be rolled out in an update for Apple devices and will bring forth a wide variety of stories and news for its users. Making the Apple News service more “premium” was Apple’s goal all along, as showcased by beautiful magazine covers in neat and impressive layouts in the application. Some magazine covers are intricately and vividly designed, others are animated and some sport a bold typography style to make a premium statement.
Apple claims that it won’t track what its users read on the News Plus application, nor will it allow advertisers to track them without their consent. With more than 5 billion articles read on the Apple News app every month, the company wants its users to make the best use of its premium news plus app rather than relying on social media networks for news that may be adulterated.
Subscription Plans And Availability
Similar to other mainstream subscription services, Apple News Plus aims to provide paid readable content from different magazines to its premium users, who will pay a monthly fee. One of the many news sources that Apple partnered with is the Wall Street Journal, which will cater general news to the company so that Apple can do the same for its users. The News Plus subscription service will be priced at $9.99 per month for users in the United States, whereas Canadian users will have to pay $12.99 per month for the same. A welcoming piece of information is the fact that up to six members of a family can share the subscription. Furthermore, the service offers its users a free month of trial before they decide whether to pay for the premium News curation or not. First seeing the light of Canada and the US, Apple News Plus will be launched in the UK and Australia later this year.
Apple Card
As mentioned before, Apple also unveiled its new credit card app, known as the Apple Card. The company clearly states that it is not just similar to a bank or online banking services, rather, the Apple card users will help its users be a part of a well-balanced financial life. Based on a simplicity factor that provides transparency and privacy at the same time, the Apple Card is designed specifically for the iPhone and will integrate directly with the Apple Wallet card.
Features
One of the many defining features of the Apple Card is the elimination of any transactional charges while using it. The app will encourage users to pay lesser interest and provide them with the lowest interest rate in the market. Moreover, the Card has a very attractive rewards program which gives back a percentage of every purchase made via the card. The rewards are stored as cash on the customers’ Apple Cash card, which can be used for making other transactions. A user will get 2% cashback on every payment made via the card, while a 3% cashback will be earned for every purchase made directly from Apple. Noteworthy, any purchase made via the physical card will earn just 1 percent cash back.
Mastercard will handle all aspects of payment processing for Apple. Rumours surrounding the Apple card have been rendered true, as the company has partnered with Goldman Sachs for the card. A unique card number will be generated on the user’s iPhone and will be stored securely on the device itself. Similar to the Apple News Service, the company won’t track the contents of the purchase made by the users, or any in-depth details of the same. Clearly, Apple is focusing on the privacy end here, which a lot of customers are skeptical about these days.
Microsoft Windows 7 was the operating system that defined a decade for desktops and laptops. With one of the most loyal user base of a Microsoft-designed OS, Windows 7 held its position as one of the most stable operating systems ever. Even after the company released Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, Windows 7 users found it extremely tough to migrate to the newer operating systems. After almost 10 years of a very successful run, Microsoft has finally decided to terminate support for the OS.
Microsoft’s Response
Microsoft has already started notifying Windows 7 users regarding the removal of support for the same. The company is also recommending its users what OS should they move to next. Furthermore, it is also eager to clear any doubts regarding the end of support with the OS. As per reports, Windows users will have a time period of approximately 9 months to upgrade to the OS to Windows 10, which is the latest (and widely used) operating system from the company.
By the beginning of January 2020, Microsoft will not only stop the sale of Windows 7 digital keys but will also stop providing technical support and security patches for the same. No new bugs will be addressed by the American Multinational Technology company, which will make the device running Windows 7 extremely vulnerable to malware and other security threats such as viruses, trojans and even phishing bots. Since the new virus signatures won’t be updated by the OS, the system may get infected far more easily.
Microsoft states that Windows 10 will act as a welcoming interface to Windows 7 users. All the support required for backing up the user data and documents is being extended by Microsoft itself. Step-by-step guides available on the company’s website will help users safely move over to a new PC or the new OS. In order to prepare users for moving to Windows 10, Microsoft claims that the new OS starts up 28 percent faster than Windows 7, and has a better security detail than the outgoing OS. With this move, Microsoft may attain the number of 1 billion Windows 10 devices by the end of the year 2019, with the current user count standing at around 800 million.
Steam conducts a monthly survey which depicts the graphics card information from all the gamers across the world. As per a survey conducted in the month of February 2019, AMD was still found struggling for the top spots in the list of the most used graphics cards. Whereas NVIDIA has a strong grip on almost all top 15 slots in the list, AMD made its entry on the 17th spot in the list.
The Statistics
The RX 580 is AMD’s most popular graphics card, and yet only 0.94 % of the total Steam user base uses the aforementioned model. Even Intel HD Graphics 4000 is placed higher on the list, with a total of 0.96% of gamers relying on the inbuilt graphics module. AMD as a whole is just hanging by the ledge, with a total market share of a mere 0.50%, compared to NVIDIA’s mammoth share.
Almost 16% of Steam gamers have the GTX 1060 as their primary graphics, clearly exhibiting the popularity of the mid-budget graphics card. The Pascal-based GTX 1050 Ti, 1050 and 1070 are next on the list with 9.83%, 5.34% and 4.48% market shares respectively. Surprisingly, the older Maxwell-based graphics cards, GTX 960 and GTX 970 maintain their share at 2.95% and 2.93% respectively. The top performer in the 10 series, the 1080 Ti makes the list at 1.62%
Turing based cards were launched in the month of September 2018, and they have been steadily gaining popularity over time, as seen in the survey. The RTX 2070 is at 0.50%, whereas the RTX 2080 Ti and 2080 stand at 0.21 and 0.40 percent respectively. On the other hand, AMD’s top-of-the-line RX Vega graphics cards hold a minuscule share of 0.19%. AMD has released some really performance-worthy cards lately, but it is still having trouble competing against the well-established NVIDIA graphics cards.
AMD is looking forward to launching the 7nm fabrication-based Navi GPUs in the second half of 2019, which may help the sinking shares of the company and propel it towards the higher spots. However, it is worth noting that even if AMD unveils a game-changing graphics card lineup, it may have trouble incorporating itself in the market owing to NVIDIA’s strong grip in that sector.
2019 seems to be a great year for gaming laptops, with premium brands like Alienware and ASUS stepping on the scene with their upgraded lineup of powerful machines. Where most of the gaming laptops were Intel-based, ASUS has launched its Ryzen powered range of entry-level gaming laptops in India, which are the FX705 and FX505. Both the laptops have impressive specifications and will go up against laptops from Lenovo and MSI.
Features
The ASUS FX705 features a 17.3-inch FHD display, with a 60Hz refresh rate, AMD’s FreeSync and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 px. The laptop runs on the AMD Ryzen 5 3550H, coupled with the Radeon RX 560X GPU. In terms of storage, the FX505 has a 1 TB FireCuda SSHD and up to 512 GB of SSD. The gaming laptop supports up to 32 GB of Dual Channel SDRAM.
The ASUS FX505 is slightly toned down from the FX705. It features a smaller 15.6-inch FHD display, with a 60Hz refresh rate, AMD’s FreeSync (optional) and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 px. The laptop runs on the same AMD Ryzen 5 3550H, paired with the Radeon RX 560X GPU. The FX505 has a 1 TB FireCuda SSHD and up to 512 GB of SSD as per the user’s choice. It also supports up to 32 GB of dual-channel SDRAM.
Both the laptops have the option of choosing between an illuminated chiclet keyboard or a non-illuminated one. The FX305 and the SX505 have 2W speakers with array microphones to improve sound capturing while streaming. The laptops also have an HD 720p webcam for video calling and streaming. Noteworthy, the FX505 has a 3-cell 48 Wh battery, whereas the FX705 has a 4-cell 64 Wh battery. The gaming laptops meet military-grade MIL-STD-810G standards, which renders them tougher as compared to similarly priced laptops. Also, the FX705 weighs almost 0.4 kg more than the FX505, which weighs at 2.2 kilograms.
Both the ASUS FX505 and FX705 are available in two colour variants, Gold Steel and Red Matter. The FX505 is priced INR 59,990 onwards, whereas the specced-up FX705 is priced INR 68,990 onwards. They can be purchased via the buying links given below
Google Stadia was the talk of the town at the GDC 2019, where the company brought the concept of hardware-independent gaming to life. The service will enable gamers to live-stream games directly to their browser from the Google datacenters, eliminating the need for high-end hardware to run a graphics intensive game. The company also announced its Stadia controller at the event, which looks like a hybrid of the Microsoft Xbox and the Sony PS4 controller. But the major speculation surrounding the devices remains whether average Internet connections can sustain Stadia’s capability or not. If not, then what is the future of Stadia?
Connection Speeds
Earlier, Google Stadia’s Executive stated that players will have to be equipped with a 25 Mbps internet connection in order to stream games at 4K resolution and 60 fps (frames per second). The actual consumption of bandwidth is lower, but Google recommends the aforementioned speed in order to boost performance. At a lower bandwidth, players may face issues with resolution and fps while streaming the game.
The average internet speeds in India are about 6.5 Mbps, whereas the peak connection speeds average at 41.4 Mbps. A lot of users prefer mobile internet in the country, which can give high speeds but at the same time, users may face issues with packet losses and data polling, adversely affecting the “Stadia” experience. The best bet would be using a broadband connection (preferably an optical fibre connection) in order to preserve internet speeds while not losing any data packets at the same time.
Since the Stadia controller connects directly via WiFi to the datacenter where the game is running, a high peak speed connection would fare well while playing a game that requires multiple responses to be sent over the internet in a short period of time. Although users can make use of Keyboards and mice too, Google emphasized that the Stadia controller provides enhanced compatibility with the Stadia ecosystem. Gamers who want to play a specific game on their TVs can use Chromecast to stream the game. Similarly, gamers can stream the game via the Google Chrome Browser on their laptops/desktops.
Unfortunately, Google will launch Stadia in India much later than UK, Europe, US and Canada. Furthermore, Google hasn’t unveiled its pricing for the same, but it has confirmed that the customers will be notified regarding the payment plans somewhere around the month of July.
Apple will host its much-awaited launch event at the Steve Jobs Theater, California on March 25. Rumours have been around for a long time regarding Apple’s upcoming streaming service. The anticipated streaming service will go up against other popular services including Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix.
About The Streaming Service
As per reports, HBO and CBS, two very popular networks have agreed to partner up with Apple’s upcoming service, whereas Hulu and Netflix have chosen to stay away from the same for obvious reasons. This means that the company will source content from other channels as well as create original content for the streaming service. Reportedly, Apple spent over US$ 2 Billion to sign up major stars like Oprah Winfrey for the event that will shortly go live.
Apple is also looping a clip on the Apple Events web page, which shows a video feed from the Steve Jobs Theater itself. The stage has some sort of screen which is displaying a variety of content, including the Apple screensaver and interestingly, an incoming call from Captain America, hinting at the fact that the company has probably signed up Chris Evans for a project. It will also come forward with a host of other shows over varied genres such as drama, comedy, science fiction and movies for children.
About The News Subscription Service
Furthermore, Apple will also unveil its News Subscription service at the event, which will aim towards unifying major premium magazine content and news subscriptions. Apple News was first spotted in an iOS 12.2 beta update, confirming the existence of an idea that relates to its launch. Reports say that the company is asking for a whopping 50 percent cut from the publishers. The subscription cost hasn’t been revealed yet, but Apple may price it somewhere around US$ 10 per month.
Users can watch the live stream from Apple on the company’s events page. The stream will go live at 10:30 pm IST (10:00 am PDT), and the company recommends its users to watch the stream on an Apple device, such as the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook etc.
AirPods are insanely popular amongst Apple users because of seamless synchronization and mobility. Nonetheless, Apple also owns the famous audio product manufacturer, Beats, which is reportedly planning to release its competition to the newly released AirPods in April. Not only AirPods, the Beats Truly wireless earphones will go up against the Galaxy Buds and Skullcandy Push as well.
About The Truly Wireless Earbuds
As per sources, the company will release a cord-free variant of the Beats PowerBeats wireless earbuds. Furthermore, the upcoming earbuds will incorporate Apple’s latest H1 chip, with support for “Hey Siri” enabled voice assistant, similar to the new AirPods. This looks like a similar move to when Beats launched the BeatsX headphones shortly after the launch of Apple’s first AirPods.
Although Beats is majorly known for producing good quality audio products, but since the upgrade to Beats Studio3 Wireless in 2018, the company has not added a single product to its lineup. Hopefully, the launch of the new earbuds could change the same. The new PowerBeats wireless earphones may get new features like water resistance and better sound quality.
In order to maintain compatibility with the ecosystem, Apple users will either prefer the AirPods or the Beats PowerBeats Wireless due to the presence of the Apple H1 chip in both the wearables. Since the Dr. Dre founded company is known for releasing their products with a premium price tag, the Beats PowerBeats3 Wireless may be priced somewhere around US$ 200 or more. Noteworthy, the AirPods retail at US$ 199, so the competition will be quite thick unless the Beats PowerBeats3 bring some exceptional features to the table.
As previously reported, some Nokia 7 Plus devices in Norway were found inadvertently transferring information to Chinese servers. Needless to say, concerns rose around the incident, with a lot of people unknowingly accusing the Chinese hackers of attempting to steal private data from the users. On March 23, 2019, HMD Global put forth an official statement regarding the same, which cleared some doubts surrounding the issue.
Cause Of The “Alleged Data Breach”
As per the Foxconn subsidiary, FIH mobile (the Finnish company which manufactures Nokia devices in China), the device suspected of sending data i.e. the Nokia 7 Plus did not transfer any user data to the Chinese servers. Instead, the shared information included the activation data from the device. The reason why this happened was quite clear. It was just a manufacturing error that led to this “data breach” incident.
The Finnish company had mistakenly installed the Chinese device activation client on the Nokia smartphones which were intended to retail outside China. Consequently, the activation data was being sent to vnet.cn, a Chinese server located in the China Internet Network Information Center, or CNNIC. The domain is owned by the state-run Chinese Telecom operator.
HMD Global also stated that the issue was taken care of in the month of February since most Nokia 7 Plus smartphones had been updated with the bug fix. Users can check if the fix is installed in their devices by going to Settings>System>About Phone>Build Number. The build number should be “00WW_3_39B_SP03” or “00WW_3_22C_SP05“. If the build number does not match, users may need to update their device. This can be done by going to Settings> System> Advanced>System Update>Check for Update.
Lastly, HMD Global said that the global variants of the Nokia devices have their data stored in Singapore, which abides by very strict privacy laws (as shown in the aforementioned infographic released by the company) However, Chinese Cyber Security Laws state that the data originating in China will stay in China, so the company’s Chinese units will only send data to the Chinese servers. Moreover, the company also cleared up the doubt that Nokia devices are sharing user data with third-party servers, stating that this speculation is completely incorrect.
WhatsApp is constantly testing out new features to improve the user experience on the application. The app was reported to be testing out features like Reverse Image Search and in-app web browsing. As per reports, the instant messaging service is testing out a new feature which will allow users to see the number of times a particular message has been forwarded. This will help users to reduce the amount of fake news spreading across the web since the user can figure out if a message is a part of long forwarding chain or an authentically drafted message.
About The Feature
? WhatsApp beta for Android 2.19.80: what's new? Two new important features under development: Forwarding Info and Frequently Forwarded Messages!https://t.co/HGIOImvuyK
The new update being tested out will consist of two different features, called “Forwarding Info” and “Frequently Forwarded“. As the name suggests, the “Frequently Forwarded” label will be seen on top of those messages which have been forwarded more than 4 times, ensuring that fake news does not spread like wildfire via the application.
As per the source, if the message is forwarded more than 4 times in a single chain, the “Forwarding info” label will be removed from the message and will be replaced by the “Frequently Forwarded” label. This means that users will not be able to see the complete chain of forwarding in such a case. Instead, users will have to rely on their instincts to judge whether the message is legitimate or not.
Since both, the features are in a developmental phase. The feature was first spotted on WhatsApp’s beta app version 2.19.80. Noteworthy, no such feature was spotted on the iOS TestFlight program, so it’s unsure about the availability of the feature on Apple’s platform. However, the feature may be rolled out for Android devices soon enough.

WhatsApp business is an application aimed towards integrating various businesses with the WhatsApp platform in order to facilitate transactions between users and the respective company. Many Indian businesses like redBus and MakeMyTrip have already become an integral part of the platform. It was previously launched for just Android in the month of January 2018. Now, an iOS version of the same has been launched by the company.
About WhatsApp Business
As per sources, the first instance of the app was seen on the Mexican App Store. Shortly thereafter, the app was also spotted in France, Brazil and Panama. As mentioned before, the app provides direct connectivity between clients and businesses. WhatsApp business offers companies the option to create a tailored profile which can exhibit information regarding the business, like store hours, website link and a short “info” section that helps the user know more about the company.
Companies can even program some quick replies that will automatically be sent to customers when they message the business via the application. A greeting message can be created for clients to give the impression that the service is actively performing. Moreover, companies will be able to categorize their “WhatsApp customers” and label them as per their agenda. Also, the statistics option lets the business keep a check on how many messages it is receiving and how many sent messages have been read.
Pricing And Availability
WhatsApp Business is now available on the App Store in some countries: the first one is Mexico! Is WhatsApp Business available in your country too? Let me know under this tweet! pic.twitter.com/Xo9cSWUqUF
Businesses can use the service for free if they aim to reply to every customer in a 24-hour time frame. However, a fee is charged for a longer time period. It is very peculiar to see that WhatsApp took its fair share of time for bringing such an application to the Apple App store since this is one of the very few sources of revenue for the company. Global availability for the application hasn’t been achieved yet, although just like Android, WhatsApp Business will be available worldwide soon enough.
In a never-ending clash of being the best battle royale game in the world, major game developers are entering the arena with their own Battle Royale versions of popular games. Call of Duty introduced the survival game mode to their franchise with Blackout in October 2018, and now there is another contender on the line. Battlefield V is adding Firestorm mode to the game which introduces some insane Battle Royale elements to the game.
Firestorm Features
While Battlefield may be late to the Battle Royale party, it sure did so in style. The trailer showcases all the necessary characteristics of a Battle Royale Game, and so much more. For starters, the game mode sports a map which is almost 10 times bigger than the BFV (Battlefield V) multiplayer map, Hamana. And Hamana as a map is very huge. The map is just one part of the whole experience.
Throughout the massive map, players will be able to contest objectives such as resupply points and upon successfully doing so, they will be rewarded with special safes that will contain upgraded equipment. Another intriguing feature added to the game includes the ability to use a pistol when a player is knocked down. Using the pistol, the downed player can defend himself/herself against approaching enemies and can even kill them off if they are low on health points.
Paying attention to the fact that the map takes forever to traverse, the developers have included a total of 17 different vehicles in the game, some of which are, let’s just say, “unconventional”. Players can find prototype helicopters with inbuilt miniguns, Schwimmwagens (which can function on the ground as well as in the water) and the bright coloured tractor which captured a lot of attention, and for the right reasons. Players can explore rare vehicle lockups to discover tanks on the battlefield, which are nearly unstoppable except for the fact that players can use anti-tank weaponry to tear them down
Battle Royale is a hot genre right now, as mentioned before, so it will not be very difficult to turn attention towards this game. Battlefield already has a loyal player base, and those players will be more than eager to play the Firestorm game mode and show off their skills. As of now, it is not confirmed whether the game is free-to-play or not, but it will face some serious competition from games like PUBG, Fortnite and the recently released Apex Legends (which is also published by EA). Microsoft is giving away a free copy of the game with the purchase of the Xbox One Console. The game will be available on March 25.
PUBG Mobile is insanely popular and infamous in India at the same time. The battle royale game has gathered the reputation of being one of the most addictive games of all time but at the same time, the strong addiction is proving to be harmful to a lot of students in the country. The game is affecting the performance of the students in an adverse way. Amidst a lot of controversies, the game has been banned in some cities of Gujarat. Now, probably as a step towards reversing that ban, reports say that the game may be updated with a time restriction soon.
This seems like a pretty straightforward move by the company to take up accountability for the fact that the game is a negative influence on some students. Players may be locked out of the game once they play the game for a time period that exceeds the limit. Users on Twitter reported that they are being locked out of the game after playing it for a time period of six hours of usage. The game also issues “health reminders” after two hours and four hours regarding the same.
This initiative may be a part of an OTA (Over-the-air) update that’s being pushed out to select PUBG players in the country. Noteworthy, the time restriction may have something in relation to the age of the user. The hostility regarding the game can be attributed to the fact that children and students are ignoring their surroundings for the sake of the game, which is leading to heart wretching cases across the country. Earlier in March, a couple of students were mauled to death by a train while they were engrossed in the game. Previously, a 25-year-old person accidentally drank acid instead of water while hooked to the game. All these incidents have forced the Government to take harsh actions regarding the game. In reports earlier, 10 students were arrested in Rajkot, Gujarat for the same.
The company has released a statement asserting that it is hoping to discuss its objectives with relevant authorities and remove the ban on the game in the affected cities. If this is the case, this step may just brighten up PUBG Mobile’s image a tad bit in the eyes of Indian parents and other concerned authorities. Note that no official statement regarding the “time based” restriction is released by the company yet. Screenshots of the update are being shared across Twitter by disgruntled users, which suggests that an update may be on its way.
