Asus ROG Phone 2 Launched, Features 120 Hz AMOLED Display And 6000 mAh Battery

Following the success of its original gaming smartphone, Asus has launched the ROG Phone 2. Like its predecessor, the newly launched device has unique features that make it stand out of the bunch. Few of those features include an enormous 6,000 mAh battery, UFS 3.0 storage and the Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC.

Asus ROG Phone 2 Specs and Features

The front of the Asus ROG Phone 2 is dominated by a 6.59 inch AMOLED display that has Full HD+ resolution. The display panel has a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a response time of just 1 ms (millisecond). Noteworthy, it is the world’s first handset to feature an AMOLED display of this high refresh rate.

Under the hood, the Asus Rog Phone 2 is kitted with the Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC which has 4 percent higher CPU speed and 15 percent high GPU speeds than the standard variant that is found on devices like the Redmi K20 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10 (US and China Variant). The chipset consists of an Octa-Core CPU with the prime core being clocked at 2.96 GHz and the Adreno 640 GPU which is clocked at 675 MHz.

The Asus Rog Phone 2 has a single 24 MP camera on the front and dual rear setup which is comprised of a 48 MP Sony IMX586 sensor and a 13 MP sensor with an ultra-wide viewing angle of 125 degrees. The device can also capture 2160p videos from the rear setup and 1080p videos from the selfie sensor.

In terms of memory and storage, it has 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of UFS 3.0 memory. Besides the Asus Rog Phone 2, the OnePlus 7 Pro is the only commercially available to pack this super high-speed storage chip.

Other notable features of the Asus Rog Phone 2 include an In-display fingerprint sensor, 3.5 mm audio jack, dual front-firing audio speakers, quad microphones with noise cancellation support and LED-lit logo on the rear. Connectivity options on the smartphone include Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ad, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G VoLTE, GPS, NFC and dual USB Type C ports for charging, data syncing and connecting accessories.

Speaking of accessories, Asus offers a whole host of these. Some of the accessories purpose-built of the ROG Phone 2 include an Active Cooler with inbuilt fan, TwinView dock, attachable gamepad and mobile desktop dock.

The smartphone runs on the latest Android OS which is 9 Pie. For the first time, Asus allows the user to select between two different UI which include the customised ROG UI and bloatware-free ZenUI which was last seen on the ZenFone 6. Talking about ROG UI, one noteworthy feature of the ROG Phone 2 includes “X mode” which is Asus marketing term for a gaming mode.

Like the Google Pixel 3, the ROG Phone 2 also supports toggling apps by simply squeezing its sides. However, unlike former, Asus’ offering does allow to manually configure apps based on the user’s wish.

Chinese tech titan, Huawei has been through tough times in the recent past, after the US government designated it to an entity list. Fortunately, the ban has now been lifted and the company is bracing for the launch of new products. Soon it will announce the Huawei Nova 5i Pro. However, before the official launch, live images of the smartphone have already been posted on the Chinese social media website, Weibo.

Huawei Nova 5i Pro Features and Design

Huawei Nova 5i Pro Punch Hole

According to leaked images, the Nova 5i Pro has a modern design with a punch-hole display on the front and an attractive gradient glass panel. Notably, the rear panel of the smartphone is reminiscent of the flagship-grade Mate 20 X which was launched last year.

The front of the Nova 5i Pro like most mid-range and premium smartphones has negligible bezels on all four sides. The rear of the smartphone houses the company branding, a fingerprint sensor and quad-camera setup which is housed in a square module that protrudes slightly from the surface.

    Huawei Nova 5i Pro Rear

As per to the specs revealed by the previously leaked official pamphlets, the Nova 5i Pro will be a mid-range smartphone and it will compete against the likes of the Redmi K20 that has set a new standard in this segment. Although the official price of the device is yet to be publicised, it is expected to be priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 price bracket.

To sum it up, if Huawei is able to price the Nova 5i Pro at the assumed price i.e Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000, it has the potential to become a leading contender in the mid-range segment. Nevertheless, we will have to wait for the official launch to verify the leaks and assumptions.

  • Google Pixel 4 Will Have Radar Technology For Touch Less Operation

Google Pixel 4 Will Have Radar Technology For Touch Less Operation

Google is bracing for the launch of its 2019 flagship smartphones which will be dubbed the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. In comparison to their predecessors, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL; the future smartphones will be a big departure both in terms of design and features. The company had already shared the rear design of the smartphone that reveals a dual-camera setup. Interestingly, it is the first time that a Pixel handset will feature more than one camera sensor on the rear.Google Pixel 4 Soli Radar

Although the images of Pixel 4’s front are yet to publicised, unofficial sources have revealed interesting findings of the smartphone. According to leaked screen protectors and unofficial renders, both devices in the lineup will have minimal bezels on all sides except for a lip on top of the display which is comparatively thicker.

Noteworthy, the thicker forehead (as seen in the images) on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL is not just a design choice instead it features important components that will provide the smartphones with unique functionality. Moving from left to right, the tempered glass exhibits two holes which are likely to feature dual front cameras, an oval-shaped cutout that may house ambient light sensor, an earpiece cutout and finally a capsule-shaped slit which reportedly will hold the secret weapon on the future handsets.

It is alleged that the Google Pixel 4 smartphone duo will have a complex motion-detecting sensor which allows users to operate them without physically touching them. Perhaps, Google will make use of technologies and sensors that it had developed while working on Project Soli.

For readers who do not know, Project Soli is a gesture recognition technology that makes use of radio waves to determine the range, angle or velocity of objects nearby. The function of such a sensor is comparable to the mammal bat that uses sound waves for echolocation. Anyways, Google plans to make use of such technology in handheld smartphones which will open a whole new world of boundaries in terms of device interaction besides the conventional touch sensor technology.

Possible Uses Of Project Soli On A Smartphone
    • A lot of modern smartphones support the option to play, pause or change the music by drawing certain patterns even when the device is in a locked state. The Pixel 4 incorporating sensors developed with Project soli may be able to control these feature by performing certain motions like snapping fingers or rubbing one finger over the other.
    • As seen on smartphones from Motorola and Samsung that show device status by hovering your palm near the top of the display. Similarly, Pixel 4 may support certain motion gestures that will allow achieving the same with better precision and more flexibility.

These are only a handful of uses that we could think of at the time of writing this article. However, as previously mentioned the possibilities with the technology are endless.

Although detailed specifications of the Pixel 4 lineup will only be publicised at the time of official launch, assumptions, based on its competitors can still be made. The smartphones are expected to pack the following specs:

Tinder Skips Payments Via Play Store To Save 30 Percent On Commission

When it comes to dating applications, Tinder is one of the first names that cross one’s mind. The application was originally launched in the year 2012 and it has now become a global success. Although the app is free to download and use, a paid membership is also offered that adds several functionalities like an unlimited number of swipes, changing the location information and the ability to see whether a message has been read or not.

According to a latest piece of news, the company is making a massive transition in its default payment process that skips authentication via Google Pay.

Instead, the users will now be prompted to an external web link that will redirect incoming transfers via Tinder’s very own gateway. Noteworthy, once a user enters their credit card details into this gateway, their payment information is automatically stored with the company. Besides, this also removes the choice to switch back to Google Play for making any future purchases.

Nevertheless, a senior company executive who addressed the update has a justifiable reason behind this unforeseen change. Correspondingly, Google, that operates Play Store charges a mandatory 30 percent commission on every transaction that is made via its digital distribution service. Therefore, the platform is a huge moneymaker for the company and it rakes in billions of dollars in terms of revenue each year. Fortnite

While Tinder going this path won’t affect Google in a radical manner, the profit margins of the former will rise significantly. Besides Tinder, the developer of Fortnite, Epic Games had previously chosen to go the same path as it distributed the game apk aka installer via its own servers and not Google’s.

Earlier this month, Xiaomi launched the Redmi K20 in India whose key highlighting features include the Snapdragon 730 SoC, Indisplay fingerprint scanner and a motorised popup camera. As it seemed, Xiaomi has outperformed all its competitors, the world’s second largest manufacturer, Huawei might have a wild card up its sleeve which holds the potential to steal the K20’s thunder.

Along with Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro, which were launched last month, Huawei was also expected to announce the Nova 5i Pro which was nowhere to be found. Earlier this week, the promotional material of the smartphone was leaked and now, its performance estimates have also been revealed in the form of Geekbench benchmark. Surprisinlgy, the Nova 5i Pro with the Kirin 810 has managed to surpass Redmi K20 with a substanial margin.

Following are the single core and multi core Geekbench results of the two smartphones (1,2):

Apparently, the Huawei Nova 5i Pro has much higher multi core score and slightly higher single core score than the Redmi K20. Although benchmarks are not the only factor that determine the performance of a device, but sheer horse power definitely has an upper hand.

Moving ahead, the Nova 5i Pro has been listed on the mandatory certification website TENAA, that has unconvered all its specs allowing for a detailed spec comparison between the two mid range devices.

  • LG Trademarks A Slew Of Smartphones Including One Called The M10

LG Trademarks A Slew Of Smartphones Including One Called The M10

LG was one of the first companies to launch a smartphone with the Android operating system. In the early years of the decade, the company had delivered praiseworthy handsets like the Optimus One, LG G2, LG Nexus 4 which were highly popular amongst users across the globe. However, as Chinese OEMs like Xiaomi, Oppo and Huawei started selling value for money devices at marginalised profits, long-settled companies like Sony, LG and HTC had to fall back.

Nevertheless, after devising new strategies, LG once again entered the budget and mid-range smartphone arena with the “W” series of smartphones that debuted in India last month.

Subsequently, LG is expected to launch a variety of new devices in its home country which will be a part of a brand new “M” lineup. The company had filed numerous trademarks with KIPRIS (Korean Intellectual Property Rights Information Service) under the category 9 that deals with “mobile phone and smartphones”.

The first handset in the trademark is dubbed the “M10” which coincidentally matches the moniker of a smartphone made by another Korean Giant, Samsung and the device name is Galaxy M10. Therefore, it is possible that the upcoming LG smartphone will be targetted towards the budget segment. Furthermore, the company may even launch smartphones like M20, M30, etc in the distant future.

Other than that, the company had previously filed trademarks for the V60 and V70 labels which have now been granted. Going by chronological order, these smartphones will succeed the LG V50 ThinQ which was launched earlier this year. Taking into consideration, that Samsung and Apple are yet to reveal flagship devices in the near future which will be the Galaxy Note 10 lineup and 2019 iPhone lineup in respective order. Hence, it is possible that LG launches the V60 or V70 later this year to compete with these devices.

All in all, LG may be planning a proper comeback in the smartphone business. However, in order to verify the claims and theories, we will have to wait until LG officially spreads some light on its future plans.

  • ZTE’s Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Replica Has Dual Displays

ZTE’s Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Replica Has Dual Displays

ZTE is a multinational telecommunications equipment manufacturer which is based out of Shenzhen, China. Besides making networking equipment, it also manufactures Android smartphones. After receiving worthwhile success with the gaming-oriented Red Magic 3 which is sold under the company’s sub-brand, Nubia; it is developing another flagship-grade smartphone that has a nifty trick up its sleeve.

The said ZTE smartphone surprisingly looks very similar to the leaked renders of the Galaxy Note 10. However, instead of just one display on the latter, the ZTE device features dual display, out of which the primary, high screen to body ratio display is present on the front while a smaller, secondary display is present on the rear.

Noteworthy, the front of the ZTE smartphone is free from any kind of obstruction causing notch as seen on several other smartphones which usually house the front-facing camera. Hence the theory can be derived that the multi-camera setup present on the rear of the device will be used to capture images and videos from both the front and back. Previously, Vivo also launched a similar smartphone which is called the Nex Dual Display. Though the rear display on that device is much larger than ZTE’s upcoming smartphone.

Unfortunately, the moniker or the specifications of the ZTE smartphone are currently unavailable. In order to gain more details about the handset, we will have to wait until the company addresses it publically. Other than that, with the advancement in technology, implementing this type of display is not very hard. Therefore, such a smartphone can be launched anytime soon.

Till now the responsibility has been held by devices in the Mi Mix lineup and the year 2019 will be no different. Going by chronological order, the upcoming smarpthone will be callled the Mi Mix 4 which will succed the Mi Mix 3 from the year 2018.

Falling into the footsteps of its ancestors, the Mi Mix 4 will carry forward the design language of a smartphone with an edge-to-edge display. The concept image also reveals a pop up selfie which is slowly becoming a common sighting in mid range and premium smartphones as observed with the Redmi K20 lineup and the OnePlus 7 Pro. Redmi Launches Two Elegantly Designed Affordable Power Banks

In terms of build and design, both the devices are made out of hard white plastic and have rounded corners which will allow them to easily slide into the user’s pocket if need be.

The front of both the Redmi power banks is marked with the company branding which looks very neat yet elegant. The rear of the device carries the regulatory information, disposal guide, battery capacity and other vital details. The placement of ports and buttons on both variants is also heterogeneous.

The right side of the Redmi power banks houses a power button which can be used to the turn on or turn off charging on connected devices. Besides, it can also be used to display the amount of charge left via the four LED indicators mounted on top. Speaking of the top side, it is occupied by dual USB A output ports, a micro USB port and USB Type C port. Surprisingly, the power banks feature two different types of charging ports which makes it a versatile option for users who already own smartphones with either a micro USB port or USB Type C port.

In term of charging speed, the two USB output ports support different charging speed which is listed below:

    • 5.1V, 2.4 A: 12.5 W

Samsung Galaxy A80 With A Fancy Rotating Camera Launched In India

In the month of April, Korean electronics giant, Samsung launched the apex predator in its Galaxy A lineup. Dubbed the Galaxy A80, it has now been launched in India as well. The key highlighting features of the smartphone include an immersive edge-to-edge display and a fancy flip camera system that caters the needs of capturing both photos and videos from the front and back.

    Galaxy A80 Specs and Features

The front of the Galaxy A80 features a massive 6.7 inch Super AMOLED display that is devoid of any notch. Samsung is calling this obstruction-free display as the “New Infinity”. The display panel has a  resolution of  2400 x 1080 px and an aspect ratio of 20:9. For rapidly and securely logging into the UI, the handset features an indisplay fingerprint sensor, which is also present on the Galaxy A70 and the Galaxy A50.

Under the hood, the Galaxy A80 features the Snapdragon 730G SoC which is manufactured using 8 nm fabrication process. The chipset consists of an Octa-core CPU along with Adreno 618 GPU. To provide the best both worlds i.e power and efficiency, the eight core CPU is divided into two seprate clusters which are as follows:

    • 2x 2.2 GHz
    • 6x 1.8GHz

For capturing photos and videos, the Galaxy A80 has a rotating triple camera system that consists of an f/2.0 aperture equipped 48MP sensor,  f/2.2 aperture equipped 8MP sensor and a 3D Time of Flight (ToF) along with an LED flash. As previously mentioned the same camera module can be used for photography from both the front and rear. As soon as the user taps the front camera button in the UI, the inbuilt motors come into play which with the help of a complex mechanism makes the camera setup rise and manifest itself for clicking selfies or making video calls.

The Galaxy A80 is powered by a 3700 mAh battery which supports 25W fast charging. The device runs on Samsung’s OneUI which is built on top of the latest Android 9 Pie. Connectivity options on the smartphone include Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, 4G VoLTE, GPS and USB Type C port for charging and data transfer.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 is offered in three colour options which include Angel Gold, Ghost White and Phantom Black. It is offered in a single storage variant for which the price is as follows:

    • 8 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM: Rs 47,990

Similar to various other flagship smartphones, the Galaxy A80 also lacks support for memory expansion. It will be available for pre-booking from July 22 to July 31 and will go on sale from 1st of August across all retail stores, e-Shop, Samsung Opera House and all major leading online channels.

To conclude, the Galaxy A80 seems like a fantastic handset which looks appealing and is packed with worthy features. However, we feel the price that it is being offered is a bit steep and will be the only factor that keeps customers away from it. Nevertheless, the unique camera system may be able to justify its price tag and is one features that makes it stand apart from the crowd.

This Tiny Android Go Phone, Made By Xiaomi Makes Perfect Sense For Indians

Xiaomi with it ever-expanding portfolio of products never ceases to amaze us. Earlier this week, it announced the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro smartphones for the Indian market which were originally launched in China. Likewise, the company is crowdfunding a tiny Android Go smartphone in its home country, which we would love to see in India as well. The handset is a part of Xiaomi’s sub-brand Qin and it is dubbed the “Multi Parent AI Assitant/ 4G phone” [literal translation ;)]. Nevertheless, the device has a distinguishing design and is offered in a multitude of attractive colours.

    Xiaomi Qin Android Go Smartphone

The front of the Xiaomi smartphone features a 5.05-inch display that has negligible bezels on all sides except for the chin which is comparatively thicker. Surprisingly, the display of the handset has an aspect ratio of 22.5:9 which is slowly gaining popularity in mid-range and high-end devices like the Sony Xperia 1 and Motorola One Vision. Besides, the display has resoultion of 1440 x 576 px.

In terms of dimensions and weight, the Xiaomi Qin smartphone measures 132.6 x 55.4 x 8.6 mm and tips the scale at a meagre 105 g. The rear panel of the smartphone is made out of hard plastic and the users have the choice to opt for their favourite colour out of four different vibrant options. The rear panel has a neat layout as it only houses the company branding and a single camera along with an LED flash.

The left side of the Xiaomi Qin Android Go smartphone houses the power button and volume rocker as seen on various modern handsets. Additionally, it also has a small button on the left which can be used to toggle the built-in AI voice assistant. It is powered by a 2100 mAh battery which can be charged via the bottom-mounted USB Type C port.

Another notable feature of the smartphone is the presence of an IR blaster that can be used to control different appliances wirelessly in an office or personal living space. Connectivity options on the device include 4 G VoLTE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. Details about the chipset or processor on the smartphone are currently available.

In terms of operating system, it runs on Go variant of Android 9.0. For readers who do not know, Android Go is a scaled-down variant of standard Android and it is purpose-built for devices with less powerful hardware. According to substandard Chinese translation, it can run a total of 6 applications including WeChat and has a customised UI which helps for easy navigation.

Why This Device Makes Perfect Sense For Indians?

Taking the fact into consideration, more than half of the mobile owners in India still own a feature phone that is usually limited to 2G connectivity. With the rapid adoption of 4G, the said user base undoubtedly would want to move on to smartphones that have better connectivity options and a lot more features at an economical price point. This is where the Xiaomi Qin smartphone can settle and bridge the gap.

Noteworthy, another smartphone from Xiaomi, the Redmi Go that features a front camera, bigger battery and a lower price tag than Qin is already available in India. Therefore, in order to see worthwhile sales performance, the latter needs to be priced aggressively. We feel Rs 2500 to Rs 3500 would be the sweet spot for it, given Xiaomi decides to bring it to India.
