The design patent filed by Asus was published on the 21st of May; on the Global Design Database of the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). Images in the listing reveal a total of ten design patents, all of which have a near bezel-less, fullscreen design with the same back panel for all models. The smartphones have a dual rear and dual front-facing camera, the placement of the latter is different in all the variants. Interestingly, the design exhibit a slider mechanism to hide the front-facing camera and the bottom mounted speakers. It is reminiscent of the mechanism implemented on devices like the Honor Magic 2 and Xiaomi Mi MIX 3. However, those handsets only use a top sliding mechanism instead of the dual slider showcased in the Asus patent.

The aforementioned dual slider design is reported to have quite a lot of merits over the traditional smartphone design. It was also revealed in renders by the gadget tipster Evan Blass last month. While the top part of the slider is capable of housing the front-facing cameras, the bottom one can be used to install a speaker. This would ensure a good selfie camera and audio quality while maintaining the high screen to body ratio. Unfortunately, it is not known when Asus will release a device with a dual slider mechanism; but the increased intensity of leaks and patents filed by the company insinuate it may be announced soon.

ASUS Zenfone 6 Passes FCC Certification, Will Feature Dual Camera And Snapdragon 855

ASUS previously tasted success in the hands of the Zenfone 5Z which was launched last year. The smartphone had worthy features and carried an aggressive price tag which helped it compete with smartphones like the Xiaomi POCO F1 and the OnePlus 6. As covered previously, an unreleased smartphone, named the ASUS Zenfone 6 was spotted on AnTuTu in the month of April 2019. Fresh reports state that the aforementioned device has received FCC (Federal Communications Commission) certification, which reveals it will sport dual rear cameras.

    FCC Label Information

One of the documents in the certification revealed a specification that had previously been spotted on benchmarking platforms, which is the SM8150 baseband processor (the Snapdragon 855 chipset). The SoC is one of the most powerful chipsets in the market as of now, and it comprises of an octa-core Kryo 485 CPU and the Adreno 640 GPU. The details of the chipset were derived from the FCC label which is placed at the back of the smartphone. The label also conveys that the ASUS smartphone will support 18W fast charging, similar to the Zenfone 5Z. • ASUS 5G Concept Smartphone Renders Show Off Stylish Slider Design

ASUS 5G Concept Smartphone Renders Show Off Stylish Slider Design

In a time where every smartphone manufacturer is experimenting with a host of innovations, devices with never-heard-of features are emerging. For instance, devices like the Mi Mix used their OLED screens to resonate sound, whereas smartphones like the Huawei P30 Pro have cameras with extraordinary zooming capabilities. Freshly released renders for a concept smartphone from ASUS reveal a captivating dual slider design and a display with almost no bezels.

The renders were actually developed by a designer who previously worked on the design of the ASUS Zenfone 5 but was shared on Twitter by noted tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks). A total of two designs were spotted in the images. The first design shows off a unique slider mechanism that shifts downwards to reveal dual front selfie cameras. On the sides of the cameras lie the LED flash “strips” which cover nearly 60% of the whole area.

    First Smartphone Render – Design

When the device is slid upwards, an attractive speaker grille bearing the label of Harman Kordan speakers is observed. This indicates the fact that the smartphone may have dual front firing speakers, but it’s unclear how both the speakers will function together simultaneously. The concept smartphone has a dual rear camera setup positioned at the top of the back panel. Along with the presence of the LED flash, a noteworthy feature of the back panel is the absence of a fingerprint scanner, hinting towards the fact that the device may have an in-display fingerprint scanner.

    Second Smartphone Render – Design

The second smartphone design shifts the perspective towards more of a “camera-oriented” device. Where the first render had a single LED flash strip for the front-facing cameras, the second concept shows off a separate LED flash for each of the dual selfie shooters when the slider is shifted downwards. Also, both the cameras are placed at a notable distance from each other.

As per the renders, the screen can be slid upwards to reveal another display which is much smaller than the primary display. In the image, the small screen shows controls for image exposure, a function option, a zoom slider and a camera shutter button. However, the controls may not be just limited to the camera, in fact, each app may have its own set of touch controls to integrate with the miniature display. The back of the smartphone has a set of dual cameras that are placed together in a single module, with the left side being flanked by the LED flash. Also, a fingerprint scanner can clearly be spotted on the back, which is placed between the camera and the ASUS branding.

Since both the smartphones are born out of mere concept renders, no specifications are known as of now. Even the chance the ASUS works on similarly-designed smartphones seems bleak, but in the minute probability that it does happen, the smartphones are sure to catch some attention.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 Starts Receiving Android Pie Beta Update

Asus launched the Zenfone Max Pro M1 back in the month of April last year. The smartphone quickly became one of the best selling models of the company owing to its affordable price and the features it offered. Asus has made an announcement on Twitter that it has started rolling out Android 9 Pie to the device, but there is a catch. The update is only available as a part of a beta program; users will need to register for the update on their device to get the latest software.

    Android 9 Pie: What’s New?

The current generation of AndroidOS, Android 9 Pie was introduced in August last year and brings about significant changes from its predecessor, Android 8 Oreo. The most notable change is the introduction of navigation gestures, which can be enabled manually in the settings. These gestures offer a completely new way to navigate around the user interface. Also introduced is the new settings menu, which is completely overhauled since Android Oreo. The quick settings menu has also been updated, with the option of selecting a dark or a light mode active at all times.

With Android 9 Pie, there is better notch compatibility and the volume slider has been moved to the right side. The software also introduced an all-new Digital Wellbeing setting; which can be used to monitor the device usage and cut down on the repeated use of certain apps. The update also introduces new, smoother animations to the devices.

The user can register for the Android Pie Beta program by visiting the link here. Notably, Asus also started the beta program for the Zenfone Max Pro M2 earlier last month. The company had previously promised that both of these devices will be updated to a stable build of Android 9 Pie by the month of February which they have failed to deliver. Unfortunately, Asus has not revealed any information on when the stable build of the update will be released for the Zenfone Max Pro M1.
