  • Xiaomi Poco F2 Running Android Q Spotted On Geekbench

Xiaomi Poco F2 Running Android Q Spotted On Geekbench

Xiaomi launched the Poco F1 last year which due to its flagship features and aggressive pricing turned a lot of heads globally. The company has been long awaited to launch its successor with upgraded features. Pleasingly, the Poco F2 with up to date features has been spotted on the benchmarking website, Geekbench.

    Xiaomi Poco F2

The Geekbench listing of an unreleased Xiaomi smartphone was uploaded on March 16 which clearly mentions its name, the Xiaomi Poco F2. The device registers a single core score of 1776 points and a multi core score of 6097 points. Shockingly, both the single core and multi core scores of the Poco F2 are significantly less in comparison to that of the Poco F1. For reference, the Poco F1 registered a single core score of 2451 points and a multi core score of 8998 points in our tests.

Intriguingly, the Poco F2 runs on the Android Q operating system which is the successor to Android Pie from the yesteryear. It runs the “msmnile” SoC which is the codename for Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 855. Surprisingly the device only has 4 GB of RAM. The considerably lower Geekbench score and only 4 GB of RAM hint that this could be a lite variant of the Poco F2. To further strengthen the claim about this being a lite variant, it must be noted that even the Poco F1 was offered with at least 6 GB of RAM. Therefore, the feasibility of this being an affordable lite variant is quite high. Other details including the battery capacity, camera resolution, screen size and price of the upcoming device will only be publicised once it is officially unveiled by the company.

  • Google Pixel 2 Spotted Running Android Q Beta On Geekbench

Google Pixel 2 Spotted Running Android Q Beta On Geekbench

Mountain View, California based Google is soon expected to release the first Android Q beta for Pixel smartphones. Before its official rollout,  a Google Pixel 2 smartphone running the aforementioned version of Android has been spotted on Geekbench. The device secures a single core score of 1856 points and a multi-core score of 6307 points which is comparable to a device running Android 9 Pie.

Although Google has not yet confirmed the date of the rollout, the listing indicates that the update will be dispensed soon. Last year, the company released the first Android P developer preview for Pixel smartphones on the 7th of March. For at least a few weeks, the developer preview will only be exclusive for Google Pixel smartphones which will later be followed by devices of other OEMs. Notably, a Google executive in a podcast announced that updates of Android Q public beta will be rolled to several other devices as well.

What Features Will Android Q Bring To The Table?

With every Android update, Google strives to make the mobile OS smooth and bug-free. Therefore, the first and foremost change with Android Q will be speed and performance optimisation. A notable feature, that Android Q is confirmed to bring is system-wide dark mode. This feature will especially be useful for users of smartphones with an OLED display as it will prolong the battery life of the device. Other possible features that the upcoming Android update is believed to improve or add are as follows:

    • Inbuilt Screen Recording Support – As the name suggests, it allows the user to record the media or games that are being displayed on the screen. With the surge in mobile games streaming, this feature has been in high demand. Although this feature could have been added to any Android device running versions below Android Q with the help of 3rd party applications, an inbuilt screen recorded would surely be appreciated.
    • Desktop Mode – This feature will allow the user to project the display the contents of their Android device on a large screen. Hence, an Android device could be used as a desktop computer. Companies including Samsung and Huawei in the past have included a similar feature on their Android devices. However, the integration of this feature on a deeper level will result in better performance. Also, it will end the exclusivity which the users of a handful of companies are able to enjoy.
    • Improved Facial Recognition – Facial recognition is not a new feature that Android Q will bring. However, the latest update will further enhance the feature so that it is faster and more secure than before.

  • Meizu 16 Benchmark Leak Overtakes OnePlus 6

Meizu 16 Benchmark Leak Overtakes OnePlus 6

Meizu is a Chinese electronics manufacturing company, has made its name in the smartphone industry. Its latest upcoming smartphone is expected to be the Meizu 16.  The first leak for the device was the front panel glass leak. Posted on Weibo, the panel features thin Samsung-like bezels. This may be the first phone from the company to feature an almost bezel-less display. The latest leaks reveal the benchmark score of the smartphone.

    Meizu 16

The leaks reveal that the Maize 16 scored a whopping 291,866 while OnePlus scored 284,642 on AnTuTu. Similarly, a smartphone marketed for gaming, the Mi Black Shark also scored 288,222. This score is far less than that of Meizu’s new device. The company launched the Meizu 15 in April of 2018, to which this smartphone will be a successor.

    Meizu 16
    Meizu 16 Benchmark Score

Although not much is known about the device, we speculate that Meizu 16 could feature a 6.1-inch display. The display resolution of the device could be 2960 x 1440 px with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The company might use an OLED panel for the smartphone. This smartphone could be the company’s 2018 flagship.

  • Huawei P20 Might Have An 18.7:9 Display

Huawei P20 Might Have An 18.7:9 Display

Huawei will be launching the next iteration of its flagship ‘P’ lineup, expected to be the Huawei P20. There have been plenty of renders that showcase a straightforward design of the Huawei P20 with thin bezels and a tall display. However, a new leak hints at an unusual screen for the upcoming device which sits somewhere between the Galaxy S8 and the iPhone X.

An HTML compliance benchmark recorded the EML-AL00, which is reported to be one of the P20 variants, will have a 2244 x1080 px resolution. That translates to an aspect ratio of 18.7:9 which between Samsung Galaxy S8’s 18.5:9 ratio and iPhone X’s 19.5:9 aspect ratio. There are also rumours about the Huawei P20 sporting a display notch, much like the iPhone X (or this iPhone X clone).

This benchmark could not figure out if there would be a notch or not since there’s no standardised way for websites to detect that yet. A previous render of the Huawei P20 did not reveal a notch on the display but, it would make sense since the P20 could be the furst device from Huawei to take full advantage of the company’s facial recognition technology.

Similar to the iPhone X, Huawei will have to fit a lot of sensors and new hardware in thin bezels, which might be tough to do so.

    Notch On The iPhone X

Recently, a few leaked advertisement designs revealed that an upcoming Huawei device, presumed to be the P11 at that time, will launch with a triple-camera setup on the back. According to the advertisement, the smartphone will have a triple lens rear-facing 40MP camera, 5X hybrid zooming (which uses a digital and optical zoom for better capturing far away objects) and a 24MP front-facing camera.

There is absolutely no word or even a hint that it will be launching the Huawei P20 anytime soon but, with MWC is coming up shortly, we might get a glimpse of what the Huawei P20 will look like.

  • OnePlus 5T Specifications Leaked Before Imminent Launch

OnePlus 5T Specifications Leaked Before Imminent Launch

The OnePlus 5T will be launched some time in November and after teasing ‘something’ for weeks, OnePlus has finally opened up about its upcoming flagship phone. Before the launch, however, there are customary leaks to look at, and this one comes from a listing on GFXBench.

Contrary to prior leaked listings, this one suggests that the OnePlus 5T will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and Android 8.0 Oreo. As expected, the OnePlus 5T is expected to have a 6-inch AMOLED display with a 2160 x 1080 px resolution. This is a heavily speculated feature and the main upgrade over the OnePlus 5 which has 5.5 inch AMOLED display with a 1920 x 1080 px resolution. OnePlus, in a previous tweet showed off the similar footprint of the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T while increasing the screens size of the OnePlus 5T by 0.5-inch.

The listing reveals that the smartphone will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, an octa-core processor clocked at 2.4GHz and Adreno 540 GPU, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. These specifications are the same as the OnePlus 5 and is expected to be this way as the Snapdragon 835 is the best chip available right now. The OnePlus 3T was an incremental upgrade over the OnePlus 3 because there was a faster chip available ion the market.

    OnePlus 5T Leaked Image

The next piece of information is interesting. According to the listing, the OnePlus 5T is expected to have a 20MP front-facing camera as opposed to a 16MP camera found on the OnePlus 5. The back cameras are expected to be the same 16MP + 20MP (telephoto lens) as the OnePlus 5 with improved portrait mode capabilities.

    https://twitter.com/getpeid/status/925042536124522496

OnePlus has also teased the city in which the OnePlus 5T will be launched. The image tweeted shows the intersection of West 34th Street and Broadway, located in Manhattan, New York City. The date of the launch has not been revealed as of now but, considering the social media activity of the company, it might be revealed sooner rather than later.

  • Asus Zenfone 3 Spotted on Benchmarks

Asus Zenfone 3 Spotted on Benchmarks

In what could be the successor to the Zenfone 2, two potential Zenfone 3 models have been listed on GFXBench benchmarks. We say Zenfone 3 because the model numbers are close to the Zenfone 2. Mid-range devices are turning out to be the new premium. Cheaper phones are being brought out with good specs and great design language.

    Asus Zenfone 3 benchmark 01

The listing shows two possible Zenfone 3 variants – one sporting a 5.5-inch display and the other a 5.9-inch display. The former looks to be the bigger of the two, in terms of specs. The 5.5-inch device is shown featuring a 1920x1080p pixel resolution with a hexa core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 615 SoC under the hood and Adreno 510.

    Asus Zenfone 3 benchmark 02

Meanwhile, the 5.9-inch version comes with a lower resolution at 1080x720p pixels. This version also sports a Snapdragon 615 chipset but with Adreno 405 GPU. Both the versions feature 3GB of RAM, 12MP primary shooter and 5MP selfie snapper.

Looks like Asus has ditched Intel for Qualcomm to provide for the chipsets. Going by the specs of the devices, one would expect the pricing to be around Rs 13, 000 – Rs 15,000. No word yet on when the phones will be launched.
