    Android Enterprise Recommended Smartphones Explained

Recently, smartphone makers have started to promote their devices with a new terminology. Companies like Nokia and Motorola use the term, Android Enterprise Recommended. This new moniker holds a lot of significance. But, should you care? And is it relevant to the Indian market? Let’s find out!

     The Definition

Android Enterprise Recommended is a new certification given by Google for the Android-powered smartphones. Subsequently, the devices have to meet the elevated enterprise requirements validated by Google. Interestingly, this is applicable even for non-stock OS running smartphones.

    Android Enterprise Recommended

Minimum requirements to enrol under Android Enterprise Recommended?

The device should be running on Android Nougat 7 or the newest version of Android OS. The device should have at least 2GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage. The smartphone should be powered by a chipset with at least 1.4 GHz clock speed with 64-bit architecture.

Google has also mentioned the camera requirements to get this certification. The device should have a 2MP+ front-facing camera and a 10MP+ primary camera.

The OEMs can enrol the devices using QR Code or Zero-touch enrollment. However, to make Zero-touch enrollment the device has to be running on Android 8 Oreo or the latest OS. The devices should receive the security update within 90 days of its release. Similarly, the phone should also receive one letter OS upgrade.

  • Nokia 8 Pro Specifications Leaked

    Nokia 8 Pro Specifications Leaked

HMD Global launched the Nokia 8 Sirocco at MWC 2018. The smartphone has a premium design, dual Zeiss branded cameras and a stainless steel mid-frame. In fact, the smartphone has everything to be called as a 2018 flagship smartphone. However, the smartphone was based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, which is a bit of a disappointment.

A leak suggests that the company might launch the Nokia 8 Pro with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Expected specifications of Nokia 8 Pro

The device is expected to have a 6 inch 2160 x 1080px display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the smartphone is likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage.

    Nokia 8 Pro
    Nokia 8 Pro

The phone is expected to have a dual 16 MP camera setup, similar to the one found on the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Similarly, the device is likely to have a 13 MP front-facing camera.

The smartphone is expected to have a 4000 mAh Li-ion battery with wireless charging capability with a USB type C port, which doubles as the headphone jack. In fact, the smartphone has a bigger battery than the Nokia 8 Sirocco.

The Nokia 8 Pro will run on Android 8 Oreo OS. However, unlike the Nokia 8 Sirocco, we are unsure about the support for Android One Programme.

    Conclusion

The Nokia 8 Sirocco has a QHD+ display while the Nokia 8 Pro has an FHD+ display. In fact, we might see a display similar to the one found on the Nokia 7 Plus.

The Nokia 8 Pro is expected to launch in Q3 of 2018. In fact, at least on paper, the Nokia 8 Pro has better hardware, with a bigger battery and a newer chipset. As of now, there is no official statement from HMD Global regarding the Nokia 8 Pro or a possible launch.

  • Nokia 1 Gets FCC Certification Ahead Of MWC 2018 Launch

Nokia 1 Gets FCC Certification Ahead Of MWC 2018 Launch

FCC listing reveals a new Nokia smartphone with model number TA-1071. As per the details, the listed device is likely to be the upcoming Nokia 1, which was leaked last week along with the Nokia 7 Plus. With MWC 2018 around the corner, the certification might just have confirmed the launch of the Nokia 1.

The Nokia 1 could be the most affordable Android smartphone to date from HMD Global. Considering the price of the Nokia 2, it could be priced at under US$ 100. As per the listing, the Nokia 1 has an overall size of 5.35-inch body, which might house a 5.0-inch or a smaller display. The smartphone will have prominent bezels with a 16:9 aspect ratio screen.

The Nokia 7 Plus is also expected to be launched at MWC 2018. It will, however, be a more premium offering than the Nokia 1. The Nokia 7 Plus is expected to offer a 6-inch display with the bezel-less design. It is likely to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC with at least 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. In terms of camera capability, the smartphone might have a dual camera setup on the back with Zeiss optics.

    Features:

The Nokia 1 will be powered by an entry-level Qualcomm SoC with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage. Similarly, the smartphone is expected feature single cameras on both the sides of the device.

The device is expected to feature dual SIM card slots with 4G LTE and Volte support. Additional connectivity features like Bluetooth 4.0, Wifi, Wifi Hotspot are also supported out of the box. The smartphone will run on customised Android Oreo Go OS, based on Android Oreo 8.1 for the entry-level smartphones.

    Conclusion:

HMD Global has already confirmed its presence at MWC 2018. However, there are no official words about any products. If everything goes well, then HMD Global might launch Nokia 1, Nokia 4, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 9, and Nokia 10.

  • Nokia 9 Case Renders Leaked Ahead Of Possible MWC 2018 Launch

Nokia 9 Case Renders Leaked Ahead Of Possible MWC 2018 Launch

HMD Global will be announcing quite a few smartphones at MWC 2018. While there have been doubts over the presence of Nokia 9 at the event, recent leaks might differ. New case renders of the Nokia 9 reveal an 18:9 aspect ratio and curved edges. If true, the Nokia 9 could be one of the best looking Nokia devices from the recent past.

    Early Nokia 9 Renders

The Nokia 9 will be the successor of Nokia 8, which was the company’s first Android flagship smartphone. At present, the Nokia 8 is available in India at a price of Rs. 28999 after a heavy price cut.

    Nokia 9 specifications:

As per the recent FCC filings, the smartphone is expected to feature 5.5-inch OLED display, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC with 128GB storage.

The listing also reveals that, the phone packs in a dual 13 MP + 12 MP camera setup at the back with a 5 MP front-facing camera.

Since FCC listing doesn’t always deliver accurate specifications, the Nokia 9 might debut with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 since the Nokia 8 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835.

    Via: Gearbest
    Nokia 9 design:

As per the renders, the Nokia 9 features a taller 18:9 aspect ratio display curved on both sides. The smartphone might use a premium OLED display sourced from Samsung with QHD+ resolution. On the rear, the phone once again has a glass panel, which might support wireless charging.

The dual cameras do have a noticeable bump, which might be due to OIS implementation. The fingerprint scanner is located just below the camera, as the front has very narrow bezels. The curve on the front as well as on the back looks similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S8, which offers incredible in-hand feel.

The bottom portion houses a USB type C port, main microphone and a speaker. The render doesn’t show 3.5 mm headphone jack, which means the device might not have one as well. The volume and power buttons are located at the right side of the smartphone.

The smartphone was expected to feature a dual front-facing camera. However, none of the renders confirms or corroborate that information.

  • Nokia 8 Pro With Penta-Lens Camera Setup Might Launch At MWC 2018

Nokia 8 Pro With Penta-Lens Camera Setup Might Launch At MWC 2018

The alleged Nokia 10 might, in fact, be the Nokia 8 Pro. A new report claims that the company will soon launch the Nokia 8 Pro. The device will have a camera setup, originally rumoured for the Nokia 10. The Nokia 8 Pro will succeed the Nokia 8, which was the flagship device of 2017 for Nokia.

The Nokia 8 was the first flagship smartphone from HMD Global, which offered flagship grade specifications. Nokia 8 was bested by the likes of the OnePlus 5T and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. This was largely due to their superior design. The Nokia 8 also did not impress with its camera quality which was hyped by the company.

It looks like HMD Global’s plan of launching a Penta-lens smartphone will be more than just a concept. It was rumoured that the Nokia 10 will be unveiled as a concept phone at MWC 2018 and go into production in late-2018. However, it looks like the Nokia 8 Pro will be launched alongside the likes of Nokia 7 Plus at the upcoming event.

If true, the Nokia 8 Pro will definitely grab quite a few headlines. It is also expected to run on the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset. However, the Nokia 8 Pro won’t be the device running on this chipset. Smartphones like the Galaxy S9 and Mi Mix 2S are also expected to be unveiled running on the Snapdragon 845 chipset.

    Specifications:

Like the Nokia 8, the Nokia 8 Pro is expected to offer top of the line specifications. As per the leaks, the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, coupled with either 4 or 6GB RAM. Like most other flagship smartphones of 2018, the Nokia 8 Pro will offer an 18:9 aspect ratio with minimal bezels. The exact screen size of the device is yet to be revealed, but, as per the trend, we might see a 6 inch display with rounded corners.

The smartphone might house a dual-camera setup at the back, with a possible wide angle sensor and a telephoto sensor. The smartphone does offer dual front-facing camera which is expected to offer features like portrait mode.

    Design:

Nokia 8 Pro is expected to follow the trend by offering all glass back panel, with a possible support for Qi-based wireless charging. The dual grills on the front also suggest that the smartphone might offer dual front-facing stereo speaker like the Google Pixel 2 XL.

    Conclusion:

We expected this smartphone to go live at MWC. But the recent APK tear-down suggests that the Nokia 8 Pro might get launched in August-September of 2018. However, the company might showcase a prototype at the mobile world congress.

  • Nokia 8 Starts Receiving Android 8.1 Oreo Update

Nokia 8 Starts Receiving Android 8.1 Oreo Update

HMD Global launched the Nokia 8 in India in September 2017. At the time of the launch, the company promised an update to Android 8 Oreo soon as the device was running Android 7 Nougat out of the box.

The company has now confirmed that the Nokia 8 has started receiving an update to Android 8.1 Oreo via OTA. Chief Product Manager at HMD Global, Hujo Sarvikas took to Twitter to share the news.

As per the official changelog, the Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Nokia 8 includes battery saving navigation buttons, a revamped power menu, new settings menu, and Bluetooth battery percentage. Also included are various core Android features such as Neural Networks API, Autofill framework updates, and a SharedMemory API. Along with these changes, there will obviously be enhanced performance and necessary bug fixes.

The Nokia 8 recently received a permanent price cut and is now available in India at a price of Rs. 28,999.

The Nokia 8 has a 5.3 inch 2560 x 1440 px display and 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection.

Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and a 2.45GHz octa-core processor, the Adreno 540 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which is expandable via microSD card. The smartphone has an aluminium unibody design and an IP54 rating for splash resistance. The fingerprint sensor is housed inside a physical home button which sits between two navigation touch capacitive buttons below the screen.

Powering the device is a 3090mAh battery with QuickCharge 3.0 support via USB Type-C port. It runs stock Android 7.1.1 OS and the company has promised monthly security updates and yearly Android updates.

The Nokia 8 is the first Nokia Android device to feature Carl Zeiss optics. The Nokia 8 boasts a Zeiss powered dual camera setup at the rear – a primary 13MP RGB (colour) sensor with optical image stabilisation paired with a 13MP secondary monochrome (black and white) sensor and an f/2.0 aperture. The dual-camera setup is capable of recording videos in 4K at 30 FPS and has a portrait mode for bokeh effect. On the front is a 13MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture which can also record 4K videos at 30FPS.

HMD Global Trademarks Iconic Sirocco Moniker For Nokia 8

At the upcoming MWC 2018, HMD Global will be making a few announcements. Android Go device like the Nokia 1 and a concept phone like the Nokia 10 are expected to be announced. A lot expected the Nokia 9 to be launched as well but, it looks like the company will skip a Nokia 9 launch. HMD Global might launch the Nokia 8’s updated version.

    Nokia 8

To support that argument, HMD Global has recently trademarked a Nokia phone with model number TA-1005 as the ‘Nokia 8 Sirocco’.  Incidentally, TA-1005 was the speculated model number of the Nokia 9. For context, Sirocco is a reference to the Nokia 8800 Sirocco edition which was launched in 2006.

    Nokia 8
    Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition

It was a premium looking variant of the Nokia 8800 which featured a glossy steel body along with a sapphire glass on top of the display. The Nokia 8 Sirocco edition could be a premium variant of the Nokia 8 or an updated version.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco edition is expected to feature a 5.2 inch display with an OLED display made by LG. Other specifications could remain the same as the Nokia 8. This means that HMD Global could delay the launch of the Nokia 9 for another event.

  • Honor View10 Vs The Competition

    Honor View10 Vs The Competition

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor globally launched the Honor View10 at an event in London on the 5th of December. At the time of the launch, the View10 was priced at 499 Euros which roughly translates to about Rs. 38000 in India but, considering the competitive pricing of the Honor 7X, it won’t be surprising if the Honor View10 is priced close to the 30K mark.

Irrespective of its Indian pricing, the View10 will enter the sub-40K category of flagship devices where the likes of the OnePlus 5T and Nokia 8 already exist. Just like the other two devices, the Honor View10 has a flagship chipset, a dual-camera setup and a great display to go with it. So, how does it stack up against the other sub-40K flagship devices? It will be interesting to see how Honor prices the Honor View10 considering the Indian market is extremely price-sensitive. With strong competition from the OnePlus 5T and Nokia 8, the Honor View10 will have an uphill task to sway the consumers towards the new entrant rather than the OnePlus 5T or even the Nokia 8.

  • Nokia 9 And Nokia 8 (2018) To Be Launched On 19th January

Nokia 9 And Nokia 8 (2018) To Be Launched On 19th January

Nokia 9 is highly anticipated as the successor the Nokia 8, and it appears that the Nokia 9 could be launched as early as the 19th of January. A new report from China claims that the Nokia 9 and a new iteration of the Nokia 8, named Nokia 8 (2018) will be launched on the 19th of January. It is worth noting that HMD Global has not announced or hinted at any new launch as of now.

The report also claims that both the phones will be customised for the Chinese market hence, may come with special ROM where Google services may be replaced by local alternatives.

The leaked specifications of the Nokia 9 include 5.5-inch QHD display. Whether this display will have an 18:9 aspect ratio is yet to be seen but, considering the phone is launching in 2018 and will be a flagship device, the bezels might be shrunken and considerably thinner than the ones found on the Nokia 8.

Chances are that the Nokia 9 will be launched in two variants, one with 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage while the other version of the phone may have 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

The 64GB variant of the Nokia 9 may be priced at around CNY 3,699  (Rs 35,965 approx.) while the 128GB storage variant might be priced at CNY 4,199 (Rs 40,826 approx.).

The Nokia 8 (2018) is expected to be priced similar to the Nokia 8 which was launched in India back in September at a price of Rs 36999.

Both the Nokia 9 and Nokia 8 (2018) are expected to have dual cameras at the back and have IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

While the Nokia 8 entered the Indian market a few weeks after its global launch, it will be interesting to see if HMD Global follows a similar pattern if and when the Nokia 9 and the Nokia 8 (2018) are launched.

  • Nokia 9 Renders Show Thin Bezels And No Headphone Jack

Nokia 9 Renders Show Thin Bezels And No Headphone Jack

Nokia has re-entered the smartphone market with a slew of Android powered phones in different price segments. Its latest entrant was the Nokia 8, the first Nokia branded Android flagship phone. The rumours of Nokia 9 have been doing the rounds for quite some time now and new renders show a 360-degree view of the smartphone.

The Nokia 8, although a flagship, has thick bezels around the display which a lot of 2017 flagships don’t. The Nokia 9 renders show a more modern look with thin bezels. The dual-camera setup retains its place and the fingerprint sensor is moved to the back. As far as rumoured specifications go, the Nokia 9 in all likeliness will feature a 5.5-inch 2880 x 1440 px AMOLED display. The phone will have Qualcomm’s MSM8998 Snapdragon 835, 4GB RAM and either 64GB or 128GB storage. Features like OZO sound, ‘Bothie’ are expected to be featured in the Nokia 9 as well since HMD Global really used these features to market the Nokia 8. One big omission in the renders is that of the 3.5mm headphone jack. After Google ditched it in its new Pixel 2 smartphones, there are rumours that other big Android phone manufacturers will follow suit.

In the photography department, there’s a vertically stacked dual-lens camera. The specifications in the camera department aren’t clear yet.

With the Nokia 8 launching just a couple of months ago, it will make sense for HMD Global to give the phone some breathing space and launch a new flagship in 2018 with the new flagship chipset, presumably Snapdragon 845. Using the Snapdragon 845 for its devices early on in 2018 might be a little tricky after reports of a deal between Samsung and Qualcomm surfaced a few days which would give Samsung exclusive access to an early batch of the new chips. There is no word on the launch of the smartphone and the company hasn’t taken to social media to drop any hints either.

Battle Of The Flagships Under Rs 40,000: OnePlus 5 Vs Nokia 8 Vs Honor 8 Pro Vs LG G6

Gone are the days when you couldn’t expect premium performance from smartphones that didn’t come with a premium price tag. Nowadays, good phones are getting cheaper, and cheap phones are getting better. Flagship devices from the likes of Samsung and Apple continue to cost over Rs 50,000 in India but, there smartphone makers who bring in high quality at a sort of affordable price. Rs 40,000 is not “affordable” by any means, but if you can get a phone as fast and smooth as a Rs 60,000 phone by almost half of it, you don’t have much to complain.

OnePlus 5, Nokia 8, Honor 8 Pro and the LG G6 offer flagship performance and features at a price under Rs 40,000. Each phone has its own USP and areas of performance where it excels. So, if you have a budget of around Rs 40,000 and you want a phone with flagship performance, which one would fit the bill? Let’s find out.

HMD Global Launches The Nokia 8 In India At A Price Of Rs 36999

HMD Global has launched the Nokia 8 in India at a price of Rs 36999. HMD global held a launch event in New Delhi on September 26th and unveiled the first-ever Android flagship with Nokia branding in India. The flagship will be up against the likes of LG G6, OnePlus 5 and the Honor 8 Pro as far as the price of the phone is concerned.

The Nokia 8 has a 5.3 inch 2560 x 1440 px display and 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. The smartphone has an aluminum unibody design and an IP54 rating for splash resistance. The fingerprint sensor is housed inside a physical home button which sits between two navigation touch capacitive buttons below the screen. Powering the device is a 3090mAh battery with QuickCharge 3.0 support via USB Type-C port. The Nokia 8 runs stock Android 7.1.1 OS and the company has promised monthly security updates and yearly Android updates. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and a 2.45GHz octa-core processor, the Adreno 540 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which is expandable via microSD card. The smartphone will be available in Tempered Blue, Polished Blue, Steel colour variants at the time of the launch and the Copper Gold colour variant will be available after a few weeks.

In terms of optics, the Nokia 8 is the first Nokia Android device to feature Carl Zeiss optics. In a very 2017 move, the Nokia 8 boasts a Zeiss powered dual camera setup at the rear – a primary 13MP RGB (colour) sensor with optical image stabilisation paired with a 13MP secondary monochrome (black and white) sensor and an f/2.0 aperture. The dual-camera setup is capable of recording videos in 4K at 30 FPS and has a portrait mode for bokeh effect. On the front is a 13MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture which can also record 4K videos at 30FPS.

One feature that HMD Global has concentrated on in the Nokia 8 is Bothie. The company claims that the Nokia 8 is the first smartphone in the world which allows ‘Dual-Sight’ video to be live streamed natively and in real-time to social feeds such as YouTube and Facebook. Dual-Sight allows you to use the front and rear camera at the same time in a split screen view. Another feature that the smartphone boasts is called OZO Audio in which the smartphone’s three microphones and Nokia’s acoustic algorithms allow you to capture 360-degree spatial surround sound. You can also share 4K videos with OZO audio with anyone – binaural codecs ensure high fidelity playback even on devices without OZO Audio.

The Nokia 8 will go on sale in India on October 14th and will be available online on Amazon exclusively and offline retail stores. Nokia also announced that in top 50 cities in the country, there will be a concierge service, wherein a company representative will come to the consumer’s house and pick up the phone for any repairs.

  • Nokia 8 To Launch In India On September 26th

Nokia 8 To Launch In India On September 26th

HMD Global has sent out press invites for an event on 26th September, stating “there are two sides to every story” in the invite. This might be a reference to the ‘Bothie’ feature on the Nokia 8 and after reports of the flagship launching in India soon, this invite makes it official. The Nokia 8 is the first ever Android OS running flagship smartphone with Nokia’s brand and has a lot of top of the line features to compete with 2017’s other flagship devices.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Nokia 8 has a 5.3 inch 2560 x 1440 px display and 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. A flagship device of 2017, the Nokia 8 does have a very unlike 2017 design with thick bezels around the display. The smartphone has an aluminum unibody design. The Nokia 8, however, has an IP54 rating for splash resistance. The fingerprint sensor is housed inside a physical home button which sits between two navigation touch capacitive buttons below the screen. Powering the device is a 3,090mAh battery with QuickCharge 3.0 support via USB Type-C port.

In order to be different from all the premium smartphones in the market, Nokia has introduced a few new features in the Nokia 8 that the company thinks will be enough to persuade potential buyers. The device has a feature called Bothie. It is the first smartphone in the world which allows ‘Dual-Sight’ video to be live streamed natively and in real-time to social feeds such as YouTube and Facebook.

The Nokia 8 is expected to be priced at around Rs 45000, considering the fact that it was launched in Malaysia for a price of RM 2,299 (Rs. 35,000 approx.). At this price, it will compete with the likes of LG G6 and the OnePlus5, although the 45K price tag will be much higher than the price of the LG and OnePlus devices. The price will be revealed come September 26th and iGyaan will bring you all the latest information from the launch event.

Nokia 8 Lands In Asian Market, India Release Not Far Away

HMD Global launched the Nokia 8 in August at an event held in London. The Nokia 8 is the first flagship smartphone running Android OS under the brand name of Nokia and turned a few heads at the time of its launch. The smartphone was highly anticipated because of the nostalgia factor and launched with high-end specifications. At the time of its launch, HMD Global announced that the phone will be made globally available in mid-September. Now, the Nokia 8 has been launched in Malaysia at a price of RM 2,299 (Rs. 35,000 approx.), which means that its entry in other major Asian markets like India is not too far away. That being said, there is no official word on the date of launch of the Nokia 8 in India yet. The smartphone might have a lot of suitors in India as Nokia was one of the most well-known brands in the pre-smartphone era and a chance to hold a premium Nokia handset again might influence quite a few buyers.

To recall, the Nokia 8 has a 5.3 inch 2560 x 1440 px display and 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. A flagship device of 2017, the Nokia 8 does have a very unlike 2017 design with thick bezels around the display. The smartphone has an aluminum unibody design. The dual-camera setup is capable of recording videos in 4K at 30 FPS and has a portrait mode for bokeh effect. On the front is a 13MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture which can also record 4K videos at 30FPS.

In the overcrowded world of premium smartphones, Nokia has taken a step further to try and differentiate itself from the crowd. The device has a feature called Bothie. It is the first smartphone in the world which allows ‘Dual-Sight’ video to be live streamed natively and in real-time to social feeds such as YouTube and Facebook. The Nokia 8, when it does enter the India market, might be priced in the sub-45K category, considering the price bracket of its launch in Malaysia. The smartphone will face competition from the likes of the OnePlus and LG G6, both of which also offer dual-camera setups, albeit different implementations. The wait for a Nokia branded Android flagship is not too far away and we will keep you updated on all the latest developments surrounding the Nokia 8 launch in India.
