  • Samsung to Focus on Mid-Range Phones, Cut Down Total Shipment in 2016

Samsung to Focus on Mid-Range Phones, Cut Down Total Shipment in 2016

According to reports, Samsung is going to lower the shipment of its smartphones in 2016 by 12%. This means the company would be shipping about 420-430 million units next year. Samsung is going to focus less on its high-end S series, and more on its budget and mid-range phones. The J series and the A series ensured that Samsung performed well in 2015. However, the year also saw a fall in the over-all demand of smartphones globally.Samsung Galaxy On5 and On7 iGyaan 0

While Samsung still continued to be a leading smartphone manufacturer despite the falling demands, the company is altering its course a little next year. There will be some new additions to the Samsung Galaxy A and J series. There are also big plans for the company’s flagship phones. Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, expected to arrive in 2016. Meizu Sold 20 Million Phones in 2015, Increased its Sales by 350%

Meizu has increased its sales by an astonishing 350% according to these numbers.Meizu m2

  • Apple Continues Its Money-Making Spree

    Apple Continues Its Money-Making Spree

Apple -that one company everyone loves to hate is in the news again. And this time for making incredible amounts of money at the end of another fiscal fourth quarter. The California-based tech giant announced its revenue and profit for the quarter which ended on the 26th of September. The company reports a quarterly revenue of $51.5 billion and a quarterly net profit of $11.1 billion. This is in contrast with numbers in the same quarter last year which were $42.1 billion along with a net profit of $8.5 billion. Yes, that’s a lot of money.Apple Gadgets

There was an increase in the sales of iPhones, Apple Watches and Macs in the final quarter, helping the company increase its revenues. However, since the quarter ended on the 26th of last month, only a two day sale period of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus can be taken into account for this. Even though Apple fell a little short of the expected sales of these new iPhones they are still faring well in the rest of the world. However, this is not true for India where these devices have not received a very enthusiastic response. Owing to a price difference of almost Rs. 20,000 in India and the US. Tim Cook

“This continued success is the result of our commitment to making the best, most innovative products on earth, and it’s a testament to the tremendous execution by our teams.”

This is what Tim Cook has to say about the new reports. Yes, it has definitely got nothing to do with some brilliant marketing strategies and publicity tactics which is responsible for a good chunk of attention Apple always manages to draw to itself. With companies like Samsung and Microsoft making devices with similar or better specs, Apple should be commended on always managing to convince customers to shell out just that extra wad of cash and opt for its devices instead of cheaper, better counterparts. Would you be willing to stake your money on Apple or do you think other companies have better to offer at a far less price?

  • iPhone 6s Gets a Lukewarm Welcome in India

iPhone 6s Gets a Lukewarm Welcome in India

We reported how the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus were getting phenomenal amounts of preorders in the USA, but the Apple wonder seems to have left its sparkle in America itself. India hasn’t taken to the iPhones too well as the opening weekend response has been tepid.

The devices managed to sell only 50,000 units out of a total of 165,000 (which is thrice the amount that was available last year).

    iPhone 6s and 6s plus igyaan 6

The phones were launched in India on October 16th and it is highly likely that customers are either waiting for the price slash or it could also be because India is literally the most expensive place to buy the latest iPhones and that we would rather do without a hole in our pockets, that too during the festival season.

We can only watch what happens next and see how Apple manages to redeem itself. Till then, Samsung anyone?

  • iPhone 6s Sales Dubbed As ‘Disappointing’ By Reports

iPhone 6s Sales Dubbed As ‘Disappointing’ By Reports

Pacific Crest, an investment bank, revealed on Sunday that the latest Apple smartphone has so far sold less than the expected number analysts had in mind. The expected numbers are around 76 million while the shipments so far have been of around 67 million iPhones.Apple+Store

Within three days of its launch on 25th September, Apple had gone ahead to make an official statement of how the sales have been unprecedented in the history of iPhones with 13 millions devices sold by 28th September. In the light of these claims, Pacific Crest’s report comes as a surprise. The company claims that Apple has seen a drop in the demand of the phones since then, resulting in reduced orders being placed by Apple to its suppliers. Pacific Crest commented on it and said:

“In contrast to the launch of the iPhone 6 last year, we note: … less than 10% of the carrier stores we surveyed have been sold out of iPhones; last year, carriers didn’t have iPhone stock on hand until November…almost all carriers surveyed indicated that iPhone 6s sales were down y/y, compared to the iPhone 6.”

iPhone 6 had sold as much as 74.4 million devices, giving Apple the most profitable quarter any tech company had ever seen. Things don’t seem to be following the same pattern this year. Let’s see how the numbers stand for Apple by the end of this year.

  • iPhone 6s is Four Times More Popular Than the 6s Plus

iPhone 6s is Four Times More Popular Than the 6s Plus

If the research conducted by Localytics is to be believed, iPhone 6s is faring way better than iPhone 6s Plus with about 1.5% of all Apple users using it. This is in contrast with a puny 0.4% of 6s Plus. The heftier price tag of the latter could be one of the reasons why customers are reluctant to opt for the device, along with its increased physical size as well.iPhone 6s and 6s Plus SalesThe two devices have set unprecedented records in terms of sales at Apple. Just the first three days of the launch of the two smartphones brought with it 10 million sold devices. However, statistics also show that the most popular iPhone so far is iPhone 6, followed by 5s and 5.

  • Apple Set to Create New Sales Record with iPhone 6s

Apple Set to Create New Sales Record with iPhone 6s

Apple is all set to create another record with the launch of the iPhone 6s that began on Friday. The sale of the latest device is estimated to fall between 11 to 13 million this weekend. Foursquare and Swarm are working together to find out the foot traffic at Apple retail stores across the world based on the information from their apps.

“Based off of early indicators, we predict that launch day traffic will be about 360 percent higher than preceding weeks. This likely means that iPhone sales will surpass previous records, in the 11 to 13 million range.” A report cited.

    iPhone 6s 1

Sometimes it takes only one new feature to get Apple loyalists around the world excited about a launch. And the Force Touch feature in the latest iPhone devices is the clear winner. This feature, among others, is set to take the sales of the iPhone to an unprecedented new high. Other features also include iOS 9, hugely improved camera (both front and back), faster processors and better connectivity.

Other than a robot in Sydney, the general crowd lining up are pretty much all human. Meanwhile, Apple stores around the world are readying their shops for the potential crowd lining up outside. Here’s a video of store employees setting up iPhone displays in Japan on Thursday night.

If Apple does manage to sell between 11 to 13 million units this weekend, they would top last year’s iPhone 6 that managed 10 million units in its opening weekend. Furthermore, a 13 million sales weekend would represent a 30% increase in sales.

The pre-orders for the iPhone 6s has already seen a major increase since the last year, with the Rose Gold colour being the most popular choice, accounting for 30 to 40 percent of total units pre-ordered.

  • Gartner: China Smartphone Sales Drop In the Second Quarter

Gartner: China Smartphone Sales Drop In the Second Quarter

New reports suggest that smartphone sales in China have fallen for the first time in their second quarter. This report come as a surprise, since China is the world’s biggest market for smartphones.

    mi4 xiaomi

Sales had dropped by 4 percent making it the first year-over-year fall said Gartner Inc, a market research company.

“China has reached saturation — its phone market is essentially driven by replacement, with fewer first-time buyers,” said Anshul Gupta, research director at Gartner.

They also said that the worldwide smartphones sales grew at the slowest pace since 2013, with China accounting for 30 percent of the total smartphones sales during this second quarter.

However, Apple’s smartphone sales rose to 14.6 percent from 12.2 percent, a year earlier. In fact, the iPhone sale in China rose by 68 percent to 11.9 million units. These numbers are attributed to Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Samsung is also said to have suffered a fall to 21.9 percent from 26.2 percent, despite the introduction of the S6 models.

    iPhone 6 Plus 0

Huawei on the other hand, reported the highest sales growth rate at 46.3 percent due to strong international sales and 4G smartphone sales in China. So, let’s hope that China’s smartphones that have taken India by storm, positively impact China too.

  • HTC to Discontinue Several Phone Models in Order to Keep Up Numbers

HTC to Discontinue Several Phone Models in Order to Keep Up Numbers

HTC Corp. has come under a lot of slack, for the past couple of years for being “confused, unoriginal and uncompetitive”. With their shares having fallen by 51 percent so far, the Taiwanese smartphone makers have reportedly announced, that they would be cutting jobs and discontinuing models so that they can focus on high-end devices, which they hope will enable them to compete with Apple Inc. and Samsung.

“The cuts will be across the board,” said Chief Financial Officer Chialin Chang, “they will be significant.”

He also mentioned that the cost reductions would extend up to the first quarter of the following year, but no further information has been reported.

    HTC One ME 14

The company seems to have been losing its market share both in the high-end as well as the low ranged sectors, with Apple and Samsung electronics in the former and Chinese rivals at the latter range, taking over rapidly.

    HTC One ME 4

Reports suggest that Chang also mentioned HTC’s strategy for the coming quarter would be – to bank on selling high-end smartphones in India where the company is said to have 20 percent market share of phone priced between approximately Rs.15,946 and Rs.25,514.

However, while most analysts are still skeptical of HTC’s stable continuance, it is to be seen whether this strategy will work for them or not.

Two Million People Have Already Reserved the OnePlus 2

Regardless of how the smartphone sales for other companies are doing, OnePlus has skyrocketed to making up to 2 million reservations for its new device OnePlus 2, as of Thursday. This number has established the company’s place in the industry for the foreseeable future.

“Over 2 MILLION reservations for the OnePlus 2. Thank you for your overwhelming support!” reads OnePlus’ Twitter account.

The company is said to have had 1 million reservations within hours of the unveiling of OnePlus 2 and took only a week for reservations to hit the 2 million mark. This number is special for the OnePlus company since its benchmark to date has been 1.5 million units for the OnePlus One and this also means that more people are looking to buy new devices from this company.

  • Samsung Reports Major Drop in First-Quarter Profits

Samsung Reports Major Drop in First-Quarter Profits

The latest flagships by Samsung Electronics, Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, were supposed to bring the company back on track. The company has been rapidly losing ground to other smartphone manufacturers like Apple, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. The escalating demand for its flagships speaks of Samsung’s decent performance this time around, but the latest announcement says otherwise.

Samsung, who has been relying on the buoyant sales of the high-end devices, recorded significant slide in profit for the sixth consecutive time. It is the sixth consecutive quarter-on-quarter (QOQ) drop reported by Samsung. The company today declared that Q1 2015 net profit was 4.63 trillion won ($4.35 billion). This was lower than the 7.49 trillion won gained the previous year. The company also mentioned that the quarterly revenue tripped by 11 percent to 47.12 trillion won, while the operating profit increased to 5.98 trillion won.

The latest statistics is higher than the previous quarter and less than half of what was reported in Q1 2014.

    Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge 0
Samsung is banking on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to help boost its numbers.

Samsung’s latest S series was outdone by Apple’s iPhone 6 and its bigger sibling. According to numbers, people preferred the bigger iPhones over the curvy Galaxy S6 Edge. Alongside, Samsung has been unable to cope up with the supply demands of Samsung S6 Edge, which is likely to have an adverse effect on its business.

Apple has again become the world’s most valuable company and disclosed the iPhones sales of the first quarter. According to Apple, a total of 61 million iPhones were retailed in Q1 this year and the maximum numbers were sold in China.

Samsung expects a better sales figure in the second quarter, and said that the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will boost the numbers up in the next couple of months. OLED and LCD panel sales are further anticipated to lift the overall sales. The Consumer Electronics (CE) Division also sees an improved sale of air conditioners and the flagship SUHD TV.

With many premium products in its kitty, Samsung expects to recover its revenue figures in the next quarter. However, it wouldn’t be that easy as many tech start-ups, as well as established companies, have secured a niche in almost every segment. Xiaomi has become a customer favourite and Apple fans are rapidly multiplying all over the world. It would be interesting to see what tactics Samsung adopts to catch up with these present titans.

  • Apple CEO Speaks Up About iPad’s Disappointing Sales Figures

Apple CEO Speaks Up About iPad’s Disappointing Sales Figures

The recently released statistics by Apple establishes the fact that the iPhone is the most popular smartphone in the international markets. The world’s most valuable company made public the three months earnings of this year’s second quarter, which speaks of 61 million iPhones being sold. This leap is incredible as this is the second biggest quarter for the iPhone. Apple managed to sell as much as 43 million iPhones last year in Q2 2014.

The CEO of the company Tim Cook spoke about the achievement –

We are thrilled by the continued strength of iPhone, Mac and the App Store, which drove our best March quarter results ever. We’re seeing a higher rate of people switching to iPhone than we’ve experienced in previous cycles, and we’re off to an exciting start to the June quarter with the launch of Apple Watch.

Apple set a record in China by surpassing the overall sales of US. For the first time in the history of iPhone, China contributed $160 million with the iPhone sale, whereas it remained $120 million in its home market Europe. The increase of 71% put Apple’s revenue in the Asian country to $16.8 billion, a major chunk mostly attributed to festivities around the Chinese New Year.

    apple earning

However as iPhones, Macs, and the App Store has gained numbers, iPad are continuously fading in the background every passing year. Once again, the iPad sale shrunk this year and closed at 12.6 million. The newest iPads to hit the market this year were the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3.

For the lackluster sales of iPad, Tim Cook says –

We have never worried about that, it is what it is, and at some point it will straighten out.

Meanwhile, there are many estimates by analysts about the Apple Watch sales, but the company hasn’t come out with an official announcement. Seeing the present report, Apple is likely to take a leap from $46 billion to $48 billion in revenue in Q3 this year.

The Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been the most popular handsets from the company since the launch of the iPhone back in 2007. The last quarter results broke all records pegging the worldwide success of the handsets.

End of March 2015 Apple’s cash totaled $193.5 billion, up from $178 billion at the end of December, that is more than the total of the next top 15 companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 list.

Apple has increased its dividend to 11%, In all, Apple pledged to return $200 billion to shareholders through buybacks and dividends by March 2017. Overall revenue rose to $58.01 billion in the second quarter ended March 28, from $45.65 billion a year earlier. That beat Wall Street’s expected revenue of $56 billion.

Apple’s latest hardware product, the Apple Watch, started shipping Friday. So far, availability is limited for the new device with Apple’s website estimating that new orders won’t be delivered until June.

Despite Several Hiccups, Xiaomi Manages to Sell 1 Million Smartphones in India

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi claims to have sold 1 million smartphones off the virtual shelves of Flipkart, its exclusive retail partner in the country. The company started selling its products in July, which means that in less than 6 months it has crossed the 1 million mark.

Xiaomi India Head, Manu Kumar Jain has announced this news via Twitter, commenting that the company crossed the one million mark this December (without specifying a date). The Chinese manufacturer, which is also known as China’s Apple, entered the Indian market only with its Mi3 smartphone. It was soon followed by Redmi Note and Redmi 1S, along with Mi power banks and earphones.

All the devices have done exceptionally well in the Indian market despite the company’s much-criticised flash sale strategy. The recent ban of the company from India may have affected their sales, however, it seems the company is doing fine considering the latest figures. Recently the ban was lifted, and this saw the company bring back the Redmi 1S on sale along with an announcement about Redmi Note 4G’s arrival.
