With reports that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus next month, a new set of images have been leaked about the company’s latest device, a compact version of the Galaxy S6. Named the Galaxy S6 Mini, the company will apparently launch it on August 13th, along with the S6 Edge Plus.
As reported by PhoneArena (via BGR India), the images show the Galaxy S6 Mini from varied angles. The phone looks a lot like the Galaxy S6, with a micro-USB port and 3.5 mm audio situated in the same manner. The phone is rumoured to come with a Snapdragon 808 SoC processor with 2GB of RAM, a 4.6″ or 4.7″ screen with 720p resolution, and a 15 MP camera.
Samsung has not revealed any official details yet, but given the date the report has mentioned, the announcement is expected to be made soon. We will be on the lookout for more details of the Galaxy S6 Mini.
Samsung is reportedly working on a new phone, SM-G928, code-named Project Zero 2. What makes it interesting is that the phone will be similar to Galaxy S6 Edge, save for the display and processor. The phone will reportedly sport a 5.4-inch or 5.7-inch Super AMOLED dual-edge curved screen.
According to the report, the SM-G928 will run on a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor. In addition to that, the phone will have a 32GB internal storage space, a 16-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilizer and 4K video recording, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
As far as physical dimensions are concerned, the phone is around 151 mm tall and around 73 mm wide, which makes it taller and wider than Galaxy S6 Edge. The report speculates that the display will be larger than 5.1 inch, which is currently the display size in Galaxy S6. An increase in physical dimensions should allow the phone to create space for a larger battery, which is rumored to be a 3,000 mAh battery.
The Project Zero 2 is being called Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. However, Samsung has not confirmed anything yet. The report states that an official announcement will be made by the company shortly.
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge back in September 2014. As an icing on the cake, the Korean company in collaboration with Oculus revealed the Gear VR, a virtual reality headgear developed to work along with the Note 4. A year after, Samsung released its latest flagship devices, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in April 2015. The company also announced that a similar VR set will accompany the handsets soon, but no such headset were up for purchase.
Today, Samsung made this device available for purchase. The device, named as Gear VR Innovator Edition for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, is a smaller and lighter version of the Note 4 Gear VR. It comes with a redesigned strap and a built-in fan to help in air-flow. According to Samsung, the Octa-Core Exynos 7420 chipset, which is the powerhouse of S6 and S6 Edge handsets, and the high PPI display will provide its users with better and smoother virtual reality experience. The other side of the coin would be the smaller screen of the S6 and S6 Edge devices, which may result in a narrow field of view.
This device is available at Samsung’s official website and BestBuy. This device can be purchased for $199.99 (Rs 12,741) and is available only for its US customers right now. No other details about its price and availability in India has been disclosed.

Looking at the specs, LG G4 shows the might to take on its competition. It is one mammoth of a device in terms of the camera, display and battery life. Coming out with an additional 128GB external storage capacity is an advantage for the LG G4. We’re also hearing good things about its leather-clad design and style. In a strange turn of events, we’re hearing that Japan will be receiving Samsung’s newest flagship – the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge without the company logo. These handsets will instead be dubbed as Docomo Galaxy and au Galaxy, with respect to the associated Japanese telecom service provider. The company has also renamed its Japanese Facebook page to Galaxy Mobile Japan.
One reason being cited is that even though Samsung might triumphant globally, its grip in Japan is not up to the mark. The second reason is that this may be due to communal tensions between Korea and Japan. These are all speculations based on its market evaluations, since Samsung has chosen to remain silent on the subject.
Apple products sell the most in Japan, followed by Sony, Sharp and Fujitsu. When Samsung released the Galaxy Note Edge in November 2014, Samsung chose Japan to be the first country for the release. Sadly, the company received less than 5% market share, selling only ten thousand units four months after its launch. Apple, on the other hand, captured over more than half of the market, attributing mainly to the popularity of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Samsung already withdrew its TV television business in 2007 when the product sold only 0.1% in the Japanese market. Though not having a good start in Japan, Samsung hopes the name change reverses their fortune in Japan.

Clearly, the pricing of the phone might lead the audience to shift focus on the Galaxy S6 rather than HTC One M9+, especially since the smartphone runs on a MediaTek processor. The display size of the phones is similar, and the RAM of the three handsets also stands parallel. The battery and rear camera of the HTC One M9+ are slightly bumped up, but overall the devices hold comparable specifications.
Since we’ve got our hands on both the devices, we have to admit that the HTC One M9+ feels more sturdy in the hand. Another area where HTC One M9+ wins is the fact that it comes with an expandable memory option, a feature that would be appreciated by many. HTC has brought the One M9+ to compete with the big-sized rulers in the Indian market. We’ll have to now wait and watch how this move turns out for the company.

Samsung’s profits have seen a steady drop in the past few quarters. The Korean electronic giant has released the figures for the period from January to March, and there is a 30.5 percent dip in the profits for the company. But the executives at Samsung might be satisfied with the results as the dip is lower than previous quarters.

The Korean electronics giant has faced a lot of criticism in the past for their lackluster devices and boring user interface. So when the time came to answer the criticism, Samsung went back to the drawing board and introduced two new designs for its flagship.
Let’s look at the upgrades in these new Samsung flagship and how it can take on its competition.
The Edge Samsung Needed
Samsung has been getting heat for its design for a while, but this new metallic look is surely a winner. The S6 Edge especially flaunts a design that looks sleek yet refreshingly new. The price of the device will definitely sting the potential buyers, but it will also give the satisfaction of owning a one of a kind device. The Edge display also offers new features like color coding some contacts so you can know who is calling based on the color displayed by the edge light. The devices are also strengthened with Gorilla Glass 4 on both sides. Smudges may be an issue on this back case, but it sure gives a premium vibe, unlike any other device from Samsung’s stable.
First Samsung Flagship With a Non-Removable Battery
Samsung has for long stuck with the removable battery as it claimed it offered more convenience to the user, but this time around the company has taken away that access. At the launch, the presenter said that they have reached a point where they are confident about the battery performance and hence have introduced a uni-body design. Samsung has also added a fast charging feature that will give the handset 4 hours of juice with just 10 minutes of charging.
Wireless Charging, The way it should be
Its 2015 and we are still haggling with the cables the way we did when the first desktop computers came out. Wireless charging technology has been around for a while but due to certain technical issues, it hasn’t reached devices on the mass scale. The new S6 works with WPC platforms such as Qi charging as well as PMA systems that will let you charge your handset on most wireless charging pads.
Samsung Pay, the mobile payment platform for Now
Apple introduced its mobile payment system last year but will take a while to reach the consumers as it depends on NFC. It has offered a 1.9 mm lens on both sides of the device that attracts more light and hence gives clear, sharp images. The company understands the importance of the camera in the times of social media and hence has introduced instant access to it. By just hitting the home button twice, you will get instant access to the easy to use camera interface. Samsung claims that this gesture control lets you access the camera in just 0.7 seconds so that you won’t have a missed moment with the new Galaxy S6.
To Conclude
Overall this launch from Samsung does address most of the criticism levied on it earlier. The new design language is impressive, and we hope that the company trickles it down in its product portfolio to the lower priced devices. You can also say that Samsung has got the edge display right this time around, as experts had previously expressed concerns about the effectiveness of dual sided curved display. Now we have to wait till it reaches the market to know how it fares with the customers.

The much anticipated forthcoming flagship from Samsung has finally been officially unwrapped. Our earlier leak might have ruined surprises, if there were any. As expected, there are indeed two versions of the flagship – one with the standard screen while the other one is a curved display.

The normal Galaxy S6 boasts a slightly larger screen size than its predecessor with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED QuadHD display with a pixel density of 577PPI. Powering the new Galaxy S6 will be an Exynos Octa-Core chipset clocked at 2.1 Ghz which is bundled with a 3GB LPDDR4.
Meanwhile, in terms of optics, it retains the same 16MP count just like its predecessor, though it gets OIS which was missing in its previous iteration. In addition, it also gets a 5MP front facing camera.
On the memory front, the Galaxy S6 will be available in three variant, 32, 64 and 128 GB variants. All based on UFS 2.0 (Universal Flash Storage). And yes, just like the iPhone – the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge will not have micro SD expandability.
Connectivity on the new flagship has been given a slight upgrade, it gets LTE Cat 6 compatibility, while other connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, while globally unlocked variants will work on TDD and FDD LTE bands so networks should not be a problem for Samsung this time around. It also gets a fingerprint scanner while juicing up the smartphone would be 2550mAh battery.
Coming to its curved counterpart, all specs and features are the same except it gets a slightly beefier battery unit at 2600mAh along with an Exynos Octa core chipset clocked at 2.5Ghz. Meanwhile, the edge is mostly for aesthetic appeal. At the event the company announced that it took upto 800 Degree to bend the Gorilla Glass 4 display.
Samsung has included quick charging and wireless charging capabilities in the new S6 and the S6 Edge. The company claims that a 10 minute charge will result in 4 hours of usage.

Galaxy S6 Edge and Wireless Chargers
Spec wise Samsung has these bad boys fully loaded up with this years hardware, an all new Exynos Octa Core 2.1 GHz chipset along with 3 GB LPDDR4 RAM, the phone just like iPhone will be available in fixed storage sizes, however starting from 32 GB, a 64 GB variant and a 128 GB all based on UFS 2.0 (Universal Flash Storage). And yes, just like iPhones the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge will not have micro SD expandability.
New Bumper Case
Connectivity is pretty top notch LTE Cat 6, Bluetooth 4.1 and WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and globally unlocked variants will work on TDD and FDD LTE bands so networks should not be a problem for Samsung this time around.

The Display is a all new 5.1 inch Super Amoled screen with a QuadHD resolution giving it a total 577 ppi of eye burning sharpness. The Galaxy S6 Edge on the other hand has a much more snappier Exynos Octa Core with 2.5 GHz and a slightly better 2600 mAh battery vs the 2550 mAh on the Galaxy S6 (non-edge.)

A new promotional image of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge has popped up on the Internet, this time courtesy of a Reddit user. The promotional image does lineup fairly well with the recently leaked images and specifications.
While the images appear rather authentic, there are a few things that do seem a bit out of place. Firstly, the Galaxy Edge is written in both lower and upper case. In the text description, the ‘Edge’ appears in uppercase, while the logo towards the bottom of the ad shows it in lower case. Moreover, the use of ‘GS6’ seems rather odd.
Though one thing the promotional image does confirm is that there are indeed two versions of the flagship – one with the standard screen while the other one is a curved display.
The Mobile World Congress is just around the corner, we’ll have to wait just a little longer before Samsung makes its official announcement.
