Samsung Officially Launches the Galaxy On5 and On7 Smartphones

Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot about Samsung’s newest budget phones, the Galaxy On5 and On7. The devices were briefly listed in the companies website a few days ago and we understood some specs of the devices. Samsung has now officially launched the phones and here’s what we know.

The On5 and On7 are pretty similar to each other and are equipped with a 1.3 GHz 32-bit quad-core Samsung Exynos 3475 processor paired with a Mali-T720 MP1 GPU and 1.5 GB of RAM. The phones come with a really low 8 GB internal storage, but are expandable up to 128 GB via MicroSD slot.

The Galaxy On7 and the Galaxy On5 feature 5.5-inch and 5.0-inch Super AMOLED display, respectively. Another point of difference between them is the camera. The Galaxy On5 has an 8-megapixel rear camera while the On7 houses a 13-megapixel sensor rear, and they both sport a 5-megapixel front. Meanwhile, the On7 has a bigger 3000mAh battery compared to On5’s 2,600mAh.

Samsung has in all likelihood cut down on bloatware for the two devices seeing as it comes only with an 8 GB internal storage. However, even with reduced bloatware, an 8 GB phone will be a tough sell for buyers. One will have to wait and see how people take to Samsung’s new phones.

As far as pricing is concerned there has been no word on it yet, though the expected prices stand at $150 for the On5 and around $200 for the On7. The phones are expected to launch in markets outside China in the next few months.

Images, specs and other details of Samsung Galaxy On5 were accidentally put up on the company’s official website. The On7 variant was revealed too but only with its user manual going up on the site. The listing has now been removed, but the images of the two phones are available online. Samsung Galaxy On5

Galaxy On5 is an entry-level phone which comes with “an unprecedentedly thin frame and bezel”. It consists of a 5-inch screen with 720p resolution. Its physical measurements are 142.3 x 72.1 x 8.5 mm along with a faux leather back. A Exynos chipset with quad-core processor and 1.5 GB RAM are some of its other specs. Even though the phone comes with 8 GB of total storage, only half of it is available to the user. However, it does include a microSD card slot to ensure expandability to the user. The phone will run on the Android OS, but the Android version remains unclear at the moment.Samsung Galaxy On5

In terms of the camera, On5 packs an 8 MP main camera capable of 1080p video recording, along with a 5 MP front camera. It’s a dual-SIM phone (microSIMs) with LTE connectivity (TDD and FDD). The phone is equipped with a 2,600 mAh battery which claims up to 13 hours of  browsing on Wi-Fi, 11 hours on 3G, and 12 hours of video playback. The price of this smartphone in the country is expected to be Rs. 10,000.Samsung Galaxy On5

The other smartphone to have been made official briefly on the Samsung website is Galaxy On7. This phone comes with a larger screen of 5.5-inches but the resolution is the same as On5, that is 720p. It packs a more impressive main camera at 13 MP along with faring better on the battery front as well with 3,000 mAh. The site didn’t mention any other specs except for a manual. Galaxy On7 is expected to be priced around Rs. 13,000.

French Carrier Website Accidentally Leaks Specs and Price of HTC One A9

We’re just days away from the official launch of the new HTC One A9 smartphone. However, the phone’s specs has been spotted in a French carrier’s website. Orange ‘accidentally’ listed some key specs of the HTC One A9 as well as the price.

    HTC One a9 (4)

The iPhone look-alike will sport a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 resolution, 13-megapixel rear camera and 4-megapixel front, and will run Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS as mentioned in an earlier post. The price of the phone was listed at €599.90, which translates to around $688. The specs of the HTC One A9 and the pricing certainly do not add up.

The HTC One A9 was just recently spotted on GFXBench which confirmed some other specs such as a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with Adreno 405 GPU, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory. The Indian pricing of the phone could translate to anywhere between Rs.45,000 – Rs. 60,000. We’ll have to wait until the 20th event to confirm the prices.

  • Fresh Leak Confirms OnePlus X/Mini Specs

Fresh Leak Confirms OnePlus X/Mini Specs

Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of discussion regarding OnePlus’ upcoming phone, the OnePlus X/Mini. None of the rumours and reports have clearly stated what the official name of the phone will be. However, the specs of the phone have pretty much been confirmed now by China’s TENNA, which is a regulatory agency similar to FCC in the US.

While some of the specs keep with past leaks, others are a bit different. The TENAA listing reports that the OnePlus X/Mini will sport a 5-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels at 441 ppi. So far so good.

Rumours that the latest phone will not feature a dual camera set have been squashed. The OnePlus X/Mini will feature a 13-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel front. In the storage department, the phone will have 3 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage, and a MicroSD card slot.

    OnePlus Mini

The CPU is totally different from what we have come to learn. Earlier it was rumoured that the phone will be powered by MediaTek’s Helio X10 chipset with a 2.2 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU. The TENAA listing, however, shows that that’s not the case. The device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 but will run at 2.0GHz unlike other Snapdragon 801 variants, which all come with a CPU clocked at 2.26GHz or higher. No confirmation on the battery of the device as of yet.

In case you missed it, a teaser by OnePlus India was posted yesterday on Facebook. The image suggests that the phone will be launched on the 29th of October. There were also rumours about OnePlus X/Mini featuring the Force Touch technology similar to the 3D Touch found in the latest iPhones, but nothing more has been revealed on that front. We’ll have a detailed specs table up once the device is officially out.

  • Nexus 6P | Hands On

    Nexus 6P | Hands On

Google’s Nexus 6P has officially launched in India today. The company had sent out invites for the event starting at 11 am. The Huawei-made Nexus 6P and the LG-made Nexus 5X released ahead of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus launch that is set to hit the markets on the 16th.

The Nexus 6P will be made available exclusively for Flipkart. Pre-orders for the phones will start tonight and the devices will begin shipping from October 21. Those who pre-order the Nexus 6P will get a Chromecast dongle worth Rs. 2,999 from Flipkart. The devices can also be purchased later on from select offline retailers such as Croma, The Mobile Store, among others.

    Huawei Nexus 6P 23

The Nexus 6P is priced at Rs. 39,999 for the 32GB, Rs. 42,999 for the 64GB, and Rs. 47,999 for the 128GB variant. The 6P features a 5.7-inch QHD touchscreen, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset, with 3 GB RAM, a 3450mAh battery, and a USB Type-C port. The camera sports a 12.3MP sensor with laser autofocus, dual-LED flash at the rear and a rather impressive 8MP on the front. This pure Android phone will run on the latest Marshmallow operating system.

    Huawei Nexus 6P 21

Our initial reactions towards the 6P were quite favorable. One of the main highlights of the Nexus 6P is the Nexus Imprint. The fingerprint sensor on the back is fast and fluid in accessibility, which according to Google only “gets better over time” as it learns more about your unique fingerprint. Another major improvement is the camera. The 12MP rear camera takes crisp and clear pictures even in low light due to the 1.55 micron pixels, which is greater than the iPhone 6s Plus.

    Huawei Nexus 6P 26

Compared to the Nexus 5X, the 6P has a more premium look to it. It has a full-metal body, built out of aluminium with diamond chamfers around the edges. The metallic finish of the body is smooth and feels comfortable in your hand, but is heavier than the Nexus 5X, which comes with a plastic body. One concern that arose regarding the leaked images of the Nexus 6P was just how much the black camera bar on the top would put off users. However, on using the Nexus 6P, the bar seemed like a welcomed change and does not stick out as much as one would think.

    Huawei Nexus 6P 11

The Nexus 6P is on the expensive side, but some improvements especially on the camera front make it worth buying if you’re looking at the market for premium handsets. As mentioned, the Nexus 6P will be available for pre-order tonight on Flipkart.

  • LG Nexus 5X | Hands On

LG Nexus 5X | Hands On

The company will also be bringing in a range of covers to India, along with the handsets, priced at Rs. 2,800.

    LG Nexus 5x 21

    LG Nexus 5X 8

On the camera front the smartphone comes equipped with a 12.3 MP rear camera and a 5 MP selfie camera. The smartphone is capable of capturing 4K and slow-motion videos, making this phone the most advanced multimedia Nexus device to date. LG Nexus 5X 0

As opposed to the all-metal body of the Nexus 6P, 5X comes in a plastic body of size 147 x 72.6 x 7.9 mm, and weighs 136 g. The device also has Nexus Imprint, a fingerprint sensor located on the back of the body. A single touch of the sensor would power on and unlock Nexus 5X for usage.

    LG Nexus 5X 5

It is further packed with a 2 GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset and OS Android Marshmallow 6.0. The stock Android is seamless as always; Google has provided minimal bloatware – a move which will be appreciated.

  • Leak : Android-Powered BlackBerry Priv’s Camera, SoC and More

Leak : Android-Powered BlackBerry Priv’s Camera, SoC and More

BlackBerry Priv’s leaks are coming faster than the company perhaps expects. New images have surfaced courtesy N4BB that show close-up shots of the display and the camera, revealing and confirming some specs of the Priv that we have already mentioned earlier.

    Priv Renders (2)

The first image shows that the Android-powered phone will be powered by an SoC (either Snapdragon 808 or 810) with 64-bit processor. The next image confirms the primary camera sensor. The Priv will feature an 18-megapixel Schneider Kreuznach  primary camera and is capable of shooting Ultra HD video in 4K @30 fps. It will also feature a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

    Priv Renders

We also know that BlackBerry is going big on security and privacy, which is why the device is called Priv (privacy and productivity). Another image shows a new app that is called BlackBerry Safeguard that shows the security status of your device based on its settings and the apps installed. As the image below shows, the app will also allow you to see how other apps are using your information, set a pattern lock, scan your device for malicious software, and more.

    Priv Renders (3)

Other features previously mentioned include a 5.4-inch curved display with a Quad HD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, and 3 GB of RAM. The phone is expected to come with Google’s Android OS, but it is not clear yet as to which version of Android it will feature. The design of the Priv brings back some elements of the BlackBerry Z30 that users grew to love such as the glass-weave back plate. The hint of carbon fiber styled back also sets this device apart from other Android phones.

The Priv might have a November launch, though BlackBerry is expected to make an official announcement on it later this month.

  • OnePlus Mini: Leaked Specs and Everything Else

OnePlus Mini: Leaked Specs and Everything Else

Here’s the thing you need to know about the upcoming OnePlus phone – it’s going by two different names. There have been many leaks over the past few weeks about a new OnePlus phone that is a miniaturized version of the OnePlus 2. The phone is being called OnePlus Mini or OnePlus X, depending on which source you follow. Recent discussions about the phone are tilting more towards OnePlus Mini now. But we discussed OnePlus X last week so it’s anyone’s guess, really.

We have brought out some rumoured spec leaks of the OnePlus Mini/X a couple of weeks ago that was spilled by AnTuTu Bencmark, and now we have an anonymous source that’s backing it up. Since the new reports come as an anonymous tip, you should not completely trust the authenticity of it. However, some specs do seem right for a phone that is said to fall below the $250 price tag.

    OnePlus X (1)

As previously mentioned, the OnePlus Mini will feature a 5-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution cloaked in 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 or Gorilla Glass 5.The Mini will be powered by MediaTek’s Helio X10 chipset with a 2.2 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU.

2 GB of RAM and 32 GB expandable storage can also be expected. So far so good. In the camera department, however, there are changes to earlier rumours. Now it is suggested that the phone will not feature dual camera set as earlier renders have shown. Instead, there will be one 13-megapixel Sony IMX258 rear sensor with  f/2.0 aperture, 4K @ 30fps video recording capabilities, and a Dual-Tone LED flash.

    OnePlus X

It is likely that the OnePlus Mini camera and display will be similar to the recently launched Xiaomi Mi 4c. There have been no changes concerning the design of the phone as shown in the renders above (except the dual camera). It is very likely that the company is steering clear from recreating a OnePlus 2 design as it has received some flak for it.

The battery is said to be either a 3000 mAh or 3100 mAh, which you’ll charge through a USB Type-C port and is also said to come with Quick Charge support. Other features include a fingerprint sensor on the back, an FM radio, a MT6630 wireless SoC, Bluetooth 4.1, an IR Blaster, a 1.2W front-facing speaker and a NFC chip for Android Pay, which was missing from the OnePlus 2. Both the NFC chip and Quick Charge support are likely to come with the Mini despite not having been featured in the bigger device.

The device is expected to be priced at $250. The anonymous source has also revealed that the phone is likely to make an appearance in November or December, though other sources say it could be launched this month. So keep your eyes open and ears to the whispers as we bring you more on the upcoming OnePlus device.

Whispers suggest that Microsoft is planning to come out with two variants of the Surface Pro 4. While one is expected to have a 12-inch display, much like the Surface Pro 3, the other is rumoured to feature a huge 14-inch screen with a 1440 x 2160 resolution and 185 ppi. The Surface Pro line are known for their sharp displays and the Surface Pro 4 looks to maintain the name. This could be Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s new iPad Pro, but we can only confirm this once the device is out in the open.

Other features of the upcoming Surface Pro 4 suggest that the tablet will use the new Skylake Core chipset from Intel. Up to 16 GB RAM will be available, with internal storage as high as 500 GB, and will run on the latest Windows 10 OS. We could also see a better battery backup as that’s one area that has been wanting.

    Microsoft Surface

In terms of design, makers at Microsoft have expressed that they are likely to stick with the current Surface Pro 3 look. You can also expect to see a new stylus in the offing considering the new Microsoft Edge browser on Windows 10 uses some new handwriting functions.

No information of what the Surface Pro 4 will cost, but it is expected to be priced similar to its predecessor, which means you could see a base price tag of $799. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 6th in New York City. Follow this space for updates on the announcements.
