  • HTC U12 Design Leaked In New Renders

HTC U12 Design Leaked In New Renders

The HTC U12 is the upcoming flagship which is expected to launch in July 2018. A new leak from a case render has confirmed the design and aesthetics of the HTC U12. However, the leak is a bit contradictory to the previous leaks, as the company was about to skip the U12 by directly launching the HTC U12+.

The leak confirms that the smartphone has a Quad-camera solution. Two cameras on the front and two on back. However, whether it’ll have a telephoto lens or some other implementation is yet to be known. Additionally, the HTC U12 will have an 18:9 aspect ratio display without a notch. Similar to the HTC U11+, the smartphone does not have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Keeping in line with its similarities to the U11+, the fingerprint sensor is placed on the back.

    HTC U12

    HTC U12 Specs

The HTC U12 will have a 6 inch display with a 2880 x 1440 px resolution. Under the hood, it will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Coupled with this chipset will be up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. However, details about other variants have not been revealed. It will be IP68 rated for water and dust resistance, a staple for modern-day flagship phones.

    HTC U12

Now, it is a known fact that Face Unlock is the new trend of the industry. However, it will be interesting to see how HTC implements this feature and how secure it’ll be. On the back of the smartphone will be a dual camera setup of a 12MP sensor coupled with a 16MP Sony IMX3xx sensor. No details about the nature of these sensors have been revealed so far.

  • Xiao Ai Is Xiaomi’s Virtual Assistant And It Is Very Similar To The Google Assistant

Xiao Ai Is Xiaomi’s Virtual Assistant And It Is Very Similar To The Google Assistant

When Google launched the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, it talked a lot about the tight integration of Google Assistant within the OS. Many believed that AI and machine learning would be the next big trend in the smartphone industry. However, that doesn’t seem to hold up so far in 2018. The iPhone X notch has taken over the smartphone industry in the first few months of 2018. However, Xiaomi has strayed away from the herd so far. It launched the Mi MIX 2s without a notch and has now introduced its own virtual assistant, Xiao Ai.

    Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s

Now, there is a huge chance that Xiao AI will never make its way to India. But, recent launch activity by Xiaomi India suggests the company has identified the great potential Indian market possesses. So, it is not completely ludicrous to expect an India-friendly version of Xiao Ai making its debut with the Mi MIX 2s. Then again, don’t hold your breath for the launch of the Mi MIX 2s in India.

Xiaomi has released a video showcasing the skills of its new AI assistant, Xiao Ai. The video is mostly in Chinese but, there are English subtitles and we couldn’t help but notice similarities with Google Assistant. In the video, colourful bars pop up when the assistant is listening, similar to the Google Assistant. Also, it shows that Xiao Ai can set reminders, control smart lights, tell the weather and other tasks that Google Assistant and the likes of Alexa, Siri can do as well.

However, it is worth noting that Xiao Ai is programmed based on the Chinese language. This means that, in China, at least, this will be the most productive virtual assistant. This bodes well for the company’s other smart home offerings as well.

  • Xiaomi’s Gaming Smartphone Black Shark To Launch On April 13th

Xiaomi’s Gaming Smartphone Black Shark To Launch On April 13th

According to a latest Weibo post, Black Shark, the subsidiary smartphone brand of Xiaomi is all set to launch its first gaming smartphone on April 13th. In February and March of 2018, there were many leaks and rumours about the Xiaomi Black Shark. The latest teaser image officially confirms the launch date of the new device. However, the company has not used the word Xiaomi anywhere on its teaser image.

Xiaomi BlackShark is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, which also powers the recently launched the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s. However, unlike the Mi MIX 2s, the Black Shark is expected to have a sturdier design with a metal unibody design, which will help the smartphone to dissipate the heat. The smartphone is most likely to be a China exclusive model, which is expected to retail at ~US$ 500.

    Xiaomi Black Shark

    Xiaomi Black Shark Specs

The Xiaomi BlackShark is expected to have a 6 inch display with 2160 x 1080p resolution. Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset with 8 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. However, the company is expected to Xiaomi BlackShark with either 64GB or 128GB storage.

    Mi MIX 2s

The BlackShark might offer a full metal unibody design with dual stereo speakers at the bottom. Out of the box, the smartphone will run on Android 8.0 Oreo. However, it might feature either MIUI or stock Android. As this is a gaming smartphone, it comes with one of a kind aviation class cooling system with additional tweaks. The smartphone scores an impressive 270680 points on Antutu, in fact, it is more than that of the Galaxy S9’s 265267 points.

  • OnePlus 5T Goes Out Of Stock As The OnePlus 6 Launch Looms Large

OnePlus 5T Goes Out Of Stock As The OnePlus 6 Launch Looms Large

On the 16th of November, OnePlus launched its second flagship of 2017, the OnePlus 5T. Its surprisingly same pricing as the OnePlus 5 was met with a collective disapproval by OnePlus 5 owners, a smartphone that was launched in June 2017. The launch of the OnePlus 5T meant the OnePlus 5 became an old phone within six months of its launch. Now, the launch of the OnePlus 6 looms large as the OnePlus 5T goes out of stock in India.

One can no longer buy the OnePlus 5T from the official OnePlus India website. Amazon, the official OnePlus 5T seller has also removed the 128GB variant of the device. Only the 64GB storage variant is available to buy and that too, not for too long. This usually happens before a OnePlus launch event. Last year, the OnePlus 5 went out of stock in North America before the OnePlus 5T launch. This week, the OnePlus 5T went out of stock in North America.

    OnePlus 6

Along with that, OnePlus has also started teasing the smartphone on social media. The company posted a small teaser video with the caption “6et Ready” suggesting the OnePlus 6 launch is imminent. We already know that the OnePlus 6 will sport an iPhone X-like notch but, the size of the notch will be much smaller. According to the image released by The Verge, it has the same size as the one found on the Huawei P20 Pro.

However, unlike the P20 Pro, the OnePlus 6 will have a non-functioning chin. Carl Pei recently clarified why all Android smartphones with a notch also have a chin, unlike the iPhone X. At the bottom of each display is a ribbon for connecting it to the device’s logic board, which means a thin chin becomes necessary. Apple decided to curb that with a flexible OLED, which, even though is a great solution, it is also an expensive one. At least, with the Huawei P20 Pro, you get a very good front-facing fingerprint sensor.

    OnePlus 6

The OnePlus 6 will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset. This time around, the OnePlus 6 will launch in a 256GB storage variant as well.

  • OnePlus 6 Launch Imminent As Company Releases Official Teaser

OnePlus 6 Launch Imminent As Company Releases Official Teaser

Up until now, there were many rumours and speculations about the OnePlus 6 and its existence. In the last few days, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the OnePlus 6 is coming with a notch. And now, the company has released an official teaser which says ‘speed you need 6’, which hints towards the imminent launch of the smartphone.

The OnePlus 6 will be the next flagship smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker. OnePlus has been known to produce low-cost flagship smartphones with almost stock OxygenOS based on the latest Android version. However, according to a recent report, the OnePlus 6 could be the costliest OnePlus smartphone ever with a price of about Rs 34000 for the base variant. The OnePlus 6 is expected to have a glass back and a 19:9 display with a notch should explain the price hike of the device.

The OnePlus 6 will have a 6.28 inch Optic OLED display with 2280 x 1080 px resolution.  The notch will house the earpiece, front camera, and other sensors. However, we cannot rule out the possibility of a much more advanced facial recognition technology which will require extra sensors. In such a case, not a lot of people should have an issue with the notch. Considering OnePlus’s previous devices, the OnePlus 6 will have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection on both the sides.

Carl Pei tweeted this after The Verge published their story. However, that did not bode well with many OnePlus fans and he, later on, deleted the tweet. It appears that not everyone is ready to love the notch yet.

Under the hood, the device will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core chipset with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Going by the previous leak, there might be a model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage as well. Additionally, there will be no support for SD card.

    OnePlus 6

The device will have a dual camera setup with a 16MP sensor and a 20MP low light sensor with an f/1.7 aperture on both lenses. For the front-facing camera, the device will have a 20MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture with support for Face Unlock.

The OnePlus 6 will run on Android 8.1 Oreo with custom OxygenOS on top. The device might also support gesture-based navigation similar to the iPhone X. Finally, the smartphone will have a 3450 mAh Li-ion battery with Dash Charging and possibly, wireless charging capabilities as well.

  • LG G7 Will Have A 3.5mm Headphone Jack

LG G7 Will Have A 3.5mm Headphone Jack

LG G7 will be the successor to the LG G6, which was launched in early 2017. Though there were rumours about the company rebranding its flagship smartphone, it is most likely to go ahead with the LG G7 moniker. A leak suggests that the LG G7 will have a 6.2 inch display based on M+ LCD technology. The smartphone is expected to launch by the end of April, initially in South Korea.

The M+ LCD display panel uses RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, and White) liquid crystals, to offers increased brightness. These panels consume 35% less powered compared to a typical IPS LCD panel. Using this technology, the company will be able to harvest brightness similar to an OLED panel without burn-in issues. The display will follow the iPhone X style notch with cutouts for a front-facing camera, ambient light sensor and an earpiece. Additionally, the company might also implement the Face Unlock feature using a front-facing camera.

    LG G7

A CAD-based 3D render also confirms that the LG G7 will retain 3.5mm headphone jack along with a USB type C port. Similarly, we can expect to see a hi-fi Quad DAC similar to the one seen on the LG V30+.  Like the LG G6, the smartphone has an all-glass design, which is expected to offer wireless charging capability.

    LG G7 Specs

The LG G7 will have a 6.2 inch QHD+ 2880 x 1440 px M+ LCD display with 19:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core chipset with 4/6GB RAM. The device will have 64/128GB internal storage with a dedicated micro SD card.

The device will have a dual primary camera setup with a 16MP RGB sensor and a 16MP wide angle sensor with f/1.5 aperture. However, the literature does not have a word about the variable aperture, similar to the Galaxy S9/S9+.

  • LG G7 ThinQ

    LG G7 ThinQ

LG G7 was expected to be launched at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona. However, a few days before the event, reports surfaced that LG CEO had asked his team of engineers to work on the LG G7 from the ground up. He also conceded that LG will no longer follow a fixed launch pattern and introduce its flagship smartphones if and when necessary.

Additionally, the smartphone has a triple SIM and micro SD card slot, which can accept two nano SIM cards and a micro SD card altogether.

There is no word from the company regarding the smartphone’s global launch. Looking at Honor’s launch pattern, there is a high probability that the company will skip a global launch.

Mid-Range Google Pixel To Launch In India Soon

Google Pixel series of smartphones are known for their unprecedented camera capabilities. However, unlike Moto or Xiaomi smartphones, the Pixel devices retail at a higher price tag. Google is now targeting markets like India, which has a huge demand for smartphones priced between Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000. According to a report, Google is planning to launch an Indian market specific device in July-August, which includes an affordable Pixel smartphone, Pixelbook and Nest devices. Additionally, the company will launch the Pixel 3 series of smartphones by Diwali.

If we look at the numbers, Google sold 3.9 million Pixel smartphones globally in 2017 while Apple sold 214.9 million devices. The existence of offline stores and affordable iPhone models like the iPhone SE has helped Apple to achieve these sale figures. Additionally, Google is still new to the hardware game and Apple has already established itself as a premium brand.

    Mid Range Google Pixel Specs

According to a report, Google will launch the mid-range Google Pixel smartphone and a Pixelbook in India by August 2018. However, the report does not specify the pricing or specifications of these devices. Along with these, the company might also launch the Nest series of smart home accessories. The Nest series of accessories comprises a thermostat and other smart home accessories.

Google will begin this launch by announcing the Google Home products. The company will launch the Google Home and Home Mini to take on the competition like the Amazon Echo speakers. The Home mini will retail for Rs 4,499 and the Home will retail at Rs 9,999. This time around, the company will focus on the offline market through brick and mortar stores. This means Google is most likely to set up stores in crowded places like malls and electronics stores.

  • OnePlus 6 Will Be Priced At Around Rs. 34000 And Could Launch In Late-April

OnePlus 6 Will Be Priced At Around Rs. 34000 And Could Launch In Late-April

Arguably one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2018, the OnePlus 6 has been in the news lately. It has garnered a lot of media attention for its iPhone X inspired design. While the company’s co-founder Carl Pei took it upon himself to justify the decision of putting a notch on the display, new information about the smartphone’s price and a launch date have surfaced.

According to a report, the OnePlus 6 will be slightly pricier than the OnePlus 5T. In China, the 64GB base variant will be priced at 2999 Yuan which translates to Rs 34000, while the 256GB variant will be priced at 4399 Yuan (Rs 45,000 approx). The 128GB storage model will retail for 3799 Yuan (Rs 39,500 approx.). This hike in price could be due to the presence of a notch and features like wireless charging. However, if true, it is still much more affordable than other flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. In China, the OnePlus 6 will launch by the end of April.

The OnePlus 6 will not have a design similar to the OPPO R15. Carl Pei’s confirmation means the initial leaked image could be our best look at the device so far. The “official case” of the OnePlus 6 also corroborates with the design in the leaked photo. The OnePlus 6 will have a vertically-placed dual camera setup along with a rear-facing fingerprint sensor that might have an oval shape.

  • Unboxing The Huawei P20 Pro

    Unboxing The Huawei P20 Pro

Huawei’s P20 Pro may be a flagship for the company if you ignore their glossy limited edition Huawei Mate RS, but for a lot of others, it is a direct stab at flagship Android phones. The Huawei P20 Pro also makes a unique proposition with a triple rear camera setup which makes it unique for the flagship market too.

[section label=”Initial Impressions”]While we had leaks aplenty the phone managed to live up to expectations with the design and feature set. The design is extremely close to that of the iPhone X. While the notch is smaller the metal frame sandwiched between the glass front and back looks extremely good.

The company wanted to retain the fingerprint sensor on the front which means that you get a large chin. But, at least a very usable fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor also allows for the navigation to be moved off the screen.

The three cameras on the Huawei P20 Pro are, however, the most naturally noticeable feature of the phone. A massive 40 MP shooter makes for the primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture with an additional 20 MP (f/1.6) camera. The third 8 MP 3x optical zoom, telephoto lens equipped, shooter makes a good mix for excellent portraits and zoomed in shots. The camera gets a natural 3x zoom and a 5x hybrid zoom which allows for lossless zoomed in pictures. The front gets a 24 MP wide selfie camera.

    [section label=”Unboxing”]

The unboxing experience is not very special for the Huawei P20 Pro, however, you do get a complete set of accessories

    • Huawei P20 Pro
    • Documentation
    • USB Type C Earphones
    • USB C to 3.5mm Adapter
    • Sim Ejector Tool
    • SuperCharge Wall Charger
    • USB Type C Cable

The software experience of the phone is what makes the P20 Pro an interesting product. For starters, you get Android 8.1 out the box, with a promised update to Android 9 soon after release. The notorious notch can be hidden in software by making the status bar black, something which “no notch nazis” would like a lot.

You can customise the OS quite a lot, from removing the navigation keys to duplication of commonly used apps. The camera app is also quite extensive with lots of shooting options. The phone also shoots and records H.265 video at 4k which is good as most phones still use dated codecs.

The Huawei P20 Pro will come to India in April. Pricing is expected to be lower than the Euro 899 price it was launched for globally. The launch of the P20 Pro will also mark the return of the brand Huawei into India which stopped sales mid-2016.

  • Xiaomi Mi A2 Might Be Powered By The Snapdragon 626 Chipset

Xiaomi Mi A2 Might Be Powered By The Snapdragon 626 Chipset

Last year Xiaomi launched its first ever stock Android running device, the Xiaomi Mi A1. According to a series of leaks, the company might soon launch the Xiaomi Mi A2. Initially, the smartphone will be launched in China as the Xiaomi Mi 6X and the same will be relaunched globally as the Mi A2 with stock Android. The Xiaomi Mi 5X was launched in June of 2017, and the company might follow the same pattern for the Mi 6X as well. However, considering the listing on TENAA, the device could launch sooner than expected.

    Xiaomi Mi A2

Previous leaks and rumours about the Mi A2 were about the design and the display of the phone. This leak sheds light on the remaining specifications of the Xiaomi Mi A2. The smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 Octa-core chipset. The Mi A1 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, and the 626 looks like an incremental upgrade. In fact, except for a minor clock speed upgrade, these chipsets have the same features and capabilities.

    Xiaomi Mi A2 Specs

The Xiaomi Mi A2 has a 5.99 inch IPS LCD 2160 x 1080 px display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 Octa-core with 2.2 GHz clock speed. Additionally, the device has 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage which will be expandable via a  microSD card.

The device has a dual-camera setup, consisting of a 20MP and an 8MP sensor with an f/2.0 and f/18 aperture, respectively. For the front-facing camera, the phone uses a 20MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, similar to the one found on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. Additionally, the front-facing camera is likely to support Face Unlock.

The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. In China, the smartphone is expected to run on MIUI 9 and for the rest of the world, the device is likely to run on stock Android OS. Lastly, the phone has a 2910 mAh battery. This is a slight downgrade over the 3080 mAh battery found on the Xiaomi Mi A1.

  • Moto Z3 Play Renders Reveal Thin Bezels And Dual-Camera Setup

Moto Z3 Play Renders Reveal Thin Bezels And Dual-Camera Setup

The Moto Z lineup is known for its modularity and sleek design. But, so far, the Moto Z smartphones have sported the now archaic 16:9 aspect ratio. The 2018 iterations of the series will have a more modern design with thin bezels. The first in line to launch is the Moto Z3 Play and so far, we have seen quite a few leaks about it. Now, the 360º renders of the smartphone have been released online and they reveal a considerable design shift from the previous generations.

    Moto Z3 Play Design

As the Z lineup’s USP is its modularity, the company cannot play much with the dimensions of the smartphone. This means that the Moto Z3 Play will more or less have the same measurements as its predecessors. However, that does not mean the design of the smartphone will remain stagnant. The new renders reveal thin bezels around the display and a tall 18:9 aspect ratio. This time around, it will also have a dual-camera setup which is a bit purported and the camera ring looks like the one found on the Moto X4.

The Moto Z3 Play appears to have an all-glass design but, that has not been confirmed yet. Another major design change is related to the fingerprint sensor. Most of the times, smartphone makers move the fingerprint sensor to the back of the smartphone but, not in this case. As the Moto Z3 Play will be compatible with Moto Mods, it cannot have a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. Hence, it has now been moved to the right side of the smartphone.

    Moto Z3 Play Specs

The Moto Z3 Play has a 6.1 inch IPS LCD display with 2160 x 1080 px 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Octa-core chipset with 3/4GB RAM and 32/63GB onboard flash storage. Additionally, one can increase the storage up to 128GB using a micro SD card. Similar to the Moto G6, the Z3 Play is expected have a forward facing fingerprint scanner which doubles as a one key navigation button.

The smartphone has a dual camera setup with a 12MP and an 8MP sensor. Additionally, the device has a 5MP front-facing camera. The smartphone has a 3000 mAh battery, with support for TurboCharge via a USB type C port.
