Over half a decade ago, Google unveiled the “Project Glass” branded smart glasses which were one of the first devices in the AR (augemented reality) segment. Six years later, world’s number one smartphone manufacturer, Samsung has also gained patent for an AR smartglass which has a visionary approach.
According to the patent, the design of the Samsung AR glass is similar to a conventional sunglass. But the left and right temples that extend over the ear to help hold device in place are quite chunky. Moreover, the whole smart glass device can fold into half which will allow for easy storage.
Clearly, all the essential components like the battery and procesor will be housed in the thick temple. In stead of having a conventionaly screen for displaying information, the Samsung AR features a projcetor which with the help of a prism, projects the infromation on the right side glass. Therefore, the data displayed on the device will remain right infront of the user’s vision, whilst still allowing them to see through and look at objects behind without any obstruction.
The display can be toggled with the help of a small square shaped switch which is placed on top of the right ear temple. In addition, the patent suggests that the Samsung AR glasses have a whole host of sensors which are include proximity sensor, an infrared sensor, biometric sensor, temperature sensor, humidity sensor, gyro sensor, an atmospheric pressure sensor, magnetic sensor, an acceleration sensor, and even a grip sensor.
The Samsung AR glasses also have a built in camera which would be used of capturing images and videos. Moreover, the same camera sensor will allow the device to provide augmented reality capabilities like quickly scanning a product and showing a listing for it on Amazon.
Conclusively, the Samsung AR smartglass looks like a bold move into the future. Sadly, any concrete information about the launch of the device is currently unavailable, therefore, we will have to wait until Samsung itself provides information about the device.
It was revealed a while ago that Samsung is working on the successor to the Galaxy Watch Active smart wearable released in February this year. The device, purportedly called the Galaxy Watch Active 2 was leaked in images and was expected to launch soon. Now, official press renders of the same have been revealed which suggests it might launch soon.
Galaxy Watch Active 2
The Galaxy Watch Active 2, as mentioned above, will be the latest smartwatch by Samsung. Official press renders of the device reveal that it will have a similar design to its predecessor. It lacks a rotating bezel, which was last seen on the Galaxy Watch and was also omitted on the first generation of the Galaxy Watch Active. Unlike the first generation though, the upcoming wearable will have a rectangular button on the top right and a red ring around the bottom right button. It may also be available with a leather strap, which was also not an option on the original version.
In terms of specifications, it has been revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 will have two variants; one with LTE support and one with support for just Wi-Fi networks. The former will be powered by a 340mAh battery while the latter will be provided with a 237mAh cell. The smartwatch is said to ship with OneUI version 1.5, which is supposedly a considerable improvement over the current version 1.0.
Unfortunately more details like the features, price and the launch date of the Galaxy Watch Active 2 are not known yet. However, the leaked images suggest the device is ready for primetime. It is speculated that the smartwatch may see the light of the day at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event next month, which will also see the launch of the Galaxy Note 10 smartphone by the company.
The issue with technology is its volatility. Dreams of today is reality in the near future. Previously, the foldable smartphone concept was an eye catching product of science fiction. We have all heard of foldable smartphone, which is one of the hot key words in technology this year; such devices have already been seen with Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Huawei’s Mate X. Now, a new report suggests that IBM is currently working on making the worlds first smartwatch that unfolds into a phone or tablet.
IBM is one of the major IT company which is renowned for its rich history with computing devices. The company is now reportedly working on an entirely new concept; we have seen foldable smartphones and soon we might see a smartwatch that doubles as a phone and a tablet. According to the report, IBM patented a design titled, “Variable Display Size For an Electronic Display Device.” The images portray a smartwatch with a thick case that will house multiple layers of the secondary display folded behind the main screen. These stacked display can be extended to be positioned on the sides of the main display.
Each screen individual screen measure 3 x 2 inches and when after unfolding reaches 6 x 4 inches. The third configuration only doubles the sides making it a tablet of 6 x 8 inches in size. The implication of such technology from IBM is massive. Soon foldable display under the main screen can help reduce overall footprint of devices which can be extended as and when needed. Even gadgets like smartwatches could potentially have more productive capabilities built into them.
IBM patents that the unfolding smartwatch is made to be a partnering device for keeping the user posted with news; it does so and more via its ability of enlarging its screen size for more functionality. The company has yet to provide any statements regarding this particular device or its planned internal hardware. More updates will be provided when information is available.
Except of smartphones and TVs, Chinese conglomerate, Xiaomi has been gradually diverging into new product categories. A couple of weeks the company launched the Mi Beard Trimmer which has been warmly received by the Indian consumers. To meet the rapidly booming demand of wireless audio devices, Xiaomi will soon launch a pair of on-ear type headphones which willl be called Mi Superbass.
As the name suggests, the upcoming headphones will have a focus on bass. Besides, as the per the image shared by the company, the pair of headphones seem to have an elegant design with the well liked Red and Black colour scheme as seen on most Beats products.
The Mi Superbass headphones seem to have a soft cushioning on the headband which will provide for comfortable wearing experience. Although it is not confirmed, the headphones may have foldable hinges on either side which will allow for easily carrying and storing them. Talking about features, Xiaomi claims that the Mi Superbass Wireless headphones will have 20 hour long battery life which will vary on the volume and type of music.
Noteworthy, the Mi Superbass Wireless headphones have 40 mm Dynamic Driver which are assumed to output powerful and rich audio.
Even though the official price of the Mi Superbass wireless headphones is not revealed, we assume that the audio accesory will range in the price bracket of Rs 1500 and Rs 3000. Conclusively, precise details including the specs and price will be revealed at the official launch date which is scheduled for the 15th of July. Notably, the upcoming Xiaomi Huami Amzfit Bip Lite smartwatch is also set to launch on the same day.
