The Amazon tablet called Kindle Fire is eating into the profits that Apple would have made from iPad sales this holiday season in the United States. The average sales of the Apple iPad dipped from the expected 16 million to 12-13 million during the highly profitable holiday season. This is courtesy the entry level users shifting over to the Amazon Kindle Fire, especially because of all the features it holds and the basic difference in price of the Apple iPad and the Fire.
The Kindle Fire is also based on Android which has already been rooted, therefore that attracts the modders and themers.
The numbers are in, Amazon has sold over 4 Million Amazon Kindles this Holiday season including global shipments and including shipments to countries ilk India and China. The Kindle fire is one of those tablets thats taking the world by storm, with awesome pricing and specs the device is turning out to be a developers fantasy. XDA-Developers forum members have been able to get the ICS ported to the tablet with a promise of the kernel release soon. Both hardware acceleration and touch input work great but audio and wifi are giving trouble.
Now where is that unboxing unit ?
Expected? perhaps not. While investment companies and strategy officials were busy down ranking the Amazon fire tablet. Amazon seems to have pulled a Witwicky with the results of first day preorders. The company has reportedly snagged orders over 95,000 for a device that they are yet to start selling.
While playing the numbers game isn’t safe in the tablet scenario, RIM sold a total of 200,000 Playbooks, Apple on the other hand sold over 300,000 on the day of order commencement. So being able to sell 100,000 of a tablet that is priced at 199$ is not a difficult task to do.
