It has been two years since Nokia started manufacturing smartphones with the Android OS. Nokia ships their smartphones with Android One, which allows the company to rapidly push out latest updates. A good build, competitive pricing, and fast updates have allowed Nokia to slowly gain traction in the smartphone market. The Nokia 8.1 was spotted on Geekbench a few weeks back. It has now popped up on the list of Google’s ARCore supported devices. With these listings already out, it is said that HMD will launch the smartphone soon. Other specifications of the device include the Snapdragon 710 SoC, 4 GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie. There are some speculations that this could be the Nokia X7 which was launched in China last month, as its specifications match that of the alleged Nokia 8.1.

An upcoming premium smartphone from Nokia with the moniker Nokia 8.1 has appeared on Geekbench’s website before it’s official launch. The specifications of the Nokia 8.1 are quite similar to the recently launched Nokia X7 or Nokia 7.1 Plus.
The device has the same processor as the Nokia X7 which is the Snapdragon Qualcomm 710 SoC. It is an Octa-core processor, which according to Geekbench has a frequency of 1.71 GHz that is much less than what it is capable of. Geekbench results also reveal that the device has 4 GB of RAM. The device that was benchmarked might be the base variant of Nokia 8.1 as even the Nokia X7 is available with 4 GB or 6 GB RAM.

HMD Global has scheduled a launch event on 16 October and it is likely to launch the Nokia X7 there. Nokia has been constantly posting teasers of an X series device on their Weibo page. The device will feature a vertically aligned dual-rear camera setup with Zeiss optics and an LED flash. The latest poster suggests that the device has a notch in its display and a rear mounted finger print sensor.
