  • OnePlus 6 To Launch In Early 2018, No OnePlus 5T To be Launched

OnePlus 6 To Launch In Early 2018, No OnePlus 5T To be Launched

In a deviation from its previous smartphone launch plans, OnePlus won’t be releasing a OnePlus 5T in late 2017. In fact, reports suggest that the OnePlus 6 will be launched in early 2018. This is a detour from OnePlus’ smartphone launch activity from the recent past. In 2016, OnePlus launched the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T was launched in late 2016 with a new chipset and a bigger battery.

According to a report, OnePlus 6 might be a major departure from the design language that OnePlus has adopted for its smartphones till now. The OnePlus 6 might have a bezel-less display, which would result in a screen larger and taller than the 5.5 inch display we’re used to seeing on OnePlus smartphones. One thing is certain, whether the company decides to launch the OnePlus 5T or the OnePlus 6, the specifications of the phone will be top notch. It was earlier reported that the OnePlus 5T will be launched in late 2017 or early 2018 and have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 chipset. This incremental move would be similar to what OnePlus did with the 3 and 3T in 2016.

But, it was reported that a Snapdragon 836 chipset is not in the works and doesn’t feature in the company’s future plans. This might have impacted OnePlus’ plan of releasing a ‘T’ variant of the 2016 flagship, the OnePlus 5. On the other hand, if the OnePlus is launched in early 2018, it could feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Apart from that, the smartphone might have similar variants of 6GB RAM/64GB and 8GB RAM/128GB storage. The dual-camera setup is expected to retain its place and just like the OnePlus 5, the implementation of the dual cameras will be a much discussed point.

OnePlus so far, has been hard at work rolling out updates for its three smartphones and recently launched a limited edition variant of the OnePlus 5 in association with French artist Castelbajac. OnePlus has also tied up with Croma to expand its offline presence.

  • OnePlus And Castelbajac Releases A Limited Edition Variant Of The OnePlus 5

OnePlus And Castelbajac Releases A Limited Edition Variant Of The OnePlus 5

OnePlus, in collaboration with renowned French designer and artist Castelbajac announced a limited edition variant of the OnePlus 5 at an event in Paris. The limited edition device will be launched at a pop-up event on September 22, at the Colette gallery in Paris.

Contrary to popular belief, OnePlus did not launch a OnePlus 5 variant with an overpowering vibrant colour, but, the phone has a unique colour scheme for the hardware buttons, and sports a mantra on the back. The custom wallpapers too, follow the design language inspired by the work of Castelbajac. The wallpapers are vibrant, unique, have loose designs and thick lines. The accessories unveiled along with the phone have a similar colour scheme and continue the trend of being reminiscent of the work Castelbajac. There are two different T-shirts available, a dual-layered tote bag, a Never Settle baseball cap, a red, blue and yellow phone holster that’s worn much like a gun holster, and colorful waist-worn case bag that seems fit to be worn on the front.

As far as what’s inside the phone is concerned, OnePlus did not touch upon that during the event. This means that the OnePlus 5 Castelbajac Limited Edition will have the same 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 px Super AMOLED display. The smartphone runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat with OnePlus’ Oxygen OS on top. The 2017 flagship has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with a combination of either 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage or a whopping 8GB RAM and 128 of storage which can not be expanded. The OnePlus 5 also features dual cameras on the back, one of the main cameras is a 20 MP sensor with an f/2.6 aperture, while the other is a 16 MP camera with an aperture of F/1.7.

The limited edition OnePlus 5 will be a hard device to get your hands on and how many pop-up events will be organised for the device is yet to be seen. As far as the price goes, there is no official word on the pricing yet, and the final price will be unveiled at the pop-up event on September 22nd.

  • New OnePlus 5 Variant To be Launched On September 19th

New OnePlus 5 Variant To be Launched On September 19th

OnePlus is hosting an event on September 19 in Paris and it seems like a special edition OnePlus 5 might be launched. It’s more than likely that the new edition will have the same specifications but a fancier name for the colour of the new variant. OnePlus has confirmed that it is collaborating with designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. The invite of the event, however, doesn’t reveal much about the phone but, the collaboration is clearly mentioned in the graphic.

OnPlus’ social media activities quite often hint to what’s coming but it looks like this time around, the Chinese smartphone startup is going all out to keep it a secret. The invite mentions style and machine, which means that the new OnePlus 5 variant will be a special edition and may have a unique colour to go with it. OnePlus, in the past, has released special edition colour variants of its flagship like the Black Colette edition of the OnePlus 3T and then the Soft Gold variant of the OnePlus 5.

Before OnePlus launched the Soft Gold variant, it was heavily speculated that a RED edition OnePlus 5 will be unveiled just like the iPhone 7 Plus Product RED variant but, sadly that wasn;t the case. OnePlus 5’s uncanny similarity with the iPhone 7 Plus in terms of the design was also one of the reasons the Red colour OnePlus 5 was expected. Before the OnePlus 5 was launched, it was rumoured that the smartphone will launch in a Blue colour variant and accurate renders were even posted online. The blue and yellow in the invite might be a hint towards the new colours or a variant that uses both the blue and yellow colour which will be very interesting.

Whatever colour the OnePlus team decides to launch come September 19, it will be a special edition and everyone may not get a chance to own one of these. Watch our in-depth review of the OnePlus 5 here
