Google To Use Recycled Materials In Its Future Hardware Products

American technology giant Google started making hardware products under the Made By Google lineup back in the year 2016. These products include smart speakers under the Home range, smartphones under the Pixel lineup; plus other offerings like the Chromecast and Daydream VR Headset. Now, in a blog post by the company, a senior Google executive has promised to cut down on carbon footprints and use only recyclable materials in its hardware products in the future.

    About Google’s Initiative

    Google

As mentioned above, Google has promised to cut down on its carbon footprints by using recycled materials for Made By Google lineup. These would include smartphones, smart displays and smart speakers among other offerings. To attain the goal set, it will make 100 percent of all shipments carbon neutral by the year 2020, which means they will be eco-friendly in terms of materials used. Also, by the year 2022, all of the Made by Google products will be manufactured with recycled materials to maximise the use of recycled content. While the materials used in the products will be recycled, the company has assured that they will go through necessary quality testing before being used in the devices.

Google notes in its blog post that between the year 2017 and 2018, its carbon emmisions for hardware products decreased by a significant 40 percent. For bolstering this further, the company launched the Power Project, which aims at providing some families in the US with energy and cost efficient Nest thermostats. While only time will tell if Google is actually sucessful in achieving its goal, its seems like a great initiative on the company’s part. Other smartphone makers such as Samsung are also trying to cut down on carbon emmisions, as it has used recycled packaging materials for its handsets for the last few years.

The iPhone 11 Series May Gain Support For The Apple Pencil

American technology giant Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones in the month of September this year. These smartphones will be the successor to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR from last year and are poised to feature notable improvements over their predecessors; like more battery, cameras and performance. Now, a fresh reports claim that the upcoming iPhone 11 may also gain support for the Apple Pencil, which is a stylus the company introduced back in the year 2015 with the first iPad Pro.

    iPhone 11 With Apple Pencil

    Apple Pencil

The aforementioned reports of the iPhone 11 supporting the Apple Pencil arrive from the renown analyst organization Citi Research. If turned out to be true, the upcoming device will be the first from Apple to support the Apple Pencil other than the iPads. While there are two generations of Apple Pencil currently available in the market, it is believed that the iPhone 11 may gain support for the first generation of the stylus. It is because of the different charging mechanism in the second generation. While the first Apple Pencil used a lightning port to replenish its battery, its successor charges by attaching itself to the sides of the iPad Pro. Also, only the new iPad Pros have had support for the second generation Pencil, so it would make sense for Apple to keep it that way for a while.

The report from Citi Research may sound enticing to users wanting stylus support in an iPhone for a while; but it should be taken with a grain of salt. As the organisation is usually known for its accurate financial predictions regarding Apple and not for its predictions of what iPhones will be like in the future, the report may turn out to be nothing but a rumor. Whatever may be the case, the very idea of the iPhone 11 supporting the Apple Pencil will expand the usability of the device. Since the launch is more than a month away, we also do not need to wait too long to confirm our suspicions.

Along with the service’s existence, screenshots revealing how it will work have also been showcased.

    About Play Pass

    Google Play Pass

As mentioned above, the Google Play Pass is a new application subscription service on Android. According to reports, the service will offer a curated library of various paid apps and games. It will also let users bypass the in-app purchases of the particular software. The leaked screenshots reveal that the service will cost users US$ 4.99 (Rs. 345) a month; which will be charged after a 10 day trial period. It is assumed that users will be able to cancel the subscription before their trial period is over if they are unsatisfied by the product.

Unfortunately, it is not known when the final stable release of the service will be announced; but the screenshots suggest that it is almost ready for primetime and may be launched soon. When official, the Google Play Pass will compete against the Apple Arcade, which is a similar offering on iOS due later this year.

  • Google Researchers Discover Six Serious Security Flaws In The Apple iPhone

Google Researchers Discover Six Serious Security Flaws In The Apple iPhone

Apple released its routine iOS 12.4 update for iPhones and iPads earlier this month. The update, like most software updates by the company claims of patching newly found security flaws and bugs. Now, in the latest report, it has been revealed that most of these serious security flaws that were patched in the iOS 12.4 update were originally discovered by Google security researchers. Out of the total six bugs reported, five have been already fixed, with one unknown flaw still remaining unchecked.

    About The Security Flaws

The aforementioned security flaws in the latest version of iOS were found by two members of Google’s Project Zero bug-hunting team. These two people are named Natalie Silvanovich and Samuel Groß, who alerted Apple immediately upon finding the flaws. While what vulnerabilities were discovered have not been revealed for obvious security purposes, they have been claimed to be interactionless. This means they can be exploited without any interaction from the user of the iPhone. The flaw has been found in the smartphone’s iMessage application.

Among the total six security flaws found by Google, at least four relied on the attacker/hacker sending malicious code to an iPhone. It is recommended that users of the Apple iPhone who still have not updated their device, do so at the earliest. The remaining security flaw that still hasn’t been patched, is expected to be fixed with the next update of the iOS software.

Google Confirms The Pixel 4 Will Support Face Unlock And Motion Gestures

It has been revealed that Google is working on the next generation of its flagship smartphones. Revealed to be the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, the devices will be the successors to last year’s Pixel 3 series. In an unprecedented move, the company showed off the handset’s design months prior to its launch. This made most of the leaks surrounding the Pixel 4 useless and gave Google the upper hand in building the hype around the smartphone. In what can be called another unique step, the company has revealed a few key features of the Pixel 4 in a new blog post.

    Pixel 4

In the blog post shared by Google, it has been revealed that its upcoming flagship smartphone Pixel 4 will support face unlock. The device is not expected to feature any form of fingerprint sensors, so facial authentication may be the only way to access the handset. The new feature is speculated to be as secure as FaceID found on newer Apple iPhones like the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. It will also be used for payment authentication inside the Play Store and supported apps.

    Google Pixel 4

The teaser by Google also showcases a different type of technology on Pixel 4. According to the video, the upcoming smartphone will support motion sensing via a barrage of sensors present on the forehead bezel above the display. This feature will be called Motion Sense and will use the Soli technology the company showcased a while ago. It will allow users to skip songs, snooze alarms and silence phone calls by waving their hands, according to Google. The feature is claimed to get better over time. At launch, Motion Sense will only be available in a select few countries, names of which are not known yet.

The device is the successor of the Moto E5 series launched last year and unlike its predecessors which were launched in a pack of four, the latest handset arrives as a solo announcement. It has a 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1440 × 720 px. As it is a budget handset, there are significant bezels on the top and bottom of the display. There is also no physical fingerprint scanner on the Moto E6, which means users will have to rely on traditional unlocking methods; such as patterns, numerical pins and passwords to access the smartphone.

    Motorola Moto E6 Processor

The Moto E6 runs on the slightly dated Snapdragon 435 SoC which has an Octa-core CPU and the Adreno 505 GPU. In terms of optics, the smartphone from Motorola has a single, f/2.0 aperture equipped 13MP sensor with LED flash. • Samsung Claims The Galaxy Fold Has Been Fixed, To Relaunch In September

Samsung Claims The Galaxy Fold Has Been Fixed, To Relaunch In September

Korean electronics giant Samsung launched its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold back in the month of February. At the event, it was announced that the device will be commercially available starting the 26th of April; however, a few weeks before its release a few Galaxy Fold review units started breaking. Many known technology journalists reported that due to a design flaw, the handset’s inside display can easily be compromised.

Samsung then announced that it is taking some time to fix the smartphone and will launch it again at a later date. Months passed, but there was no definite time bracket from the company. Until now, as it has claimed in a press release that all the issues plaguing the Galaxy Fold have been fixed and the device will be relaunched in the month of September.

    What has been fixed

    Samsung Galaxy Fold

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Fold has passed through some design and construction improvements to be certified for a relaunch. These improvements include the extension of the top protective layer of the inside display. The new layer now makes it apparent that it is an integral part of the display and should not be removed. The updates to the foldable smartphone also include additional reinforcements to further protect it from external particles while maintaining its folding mechanism. Along with the aforementioned changes, the handset will also feature protection caps on the top and bottom of the hinge area; while also reducing the space between the hinge and the body of the device.

The images shared by Samsung of the redesigned Galaxy Fold reaffirm its claims as the mentioned changes are visible, although only subtly. While the foldable smartphone has been redesigned, the company claims its price will remain the same, that is US$ 1,980 (Rs. 1,36,500). While Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Fold will launch in September, no specific launch date has been provided. It is also not certain why the company is not announcing the device at the Galaxy Unpacked event next month, where it is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 10. It is speculated that it is being done to not steal the spotlight away from either of the two handsets. Whatever may be the case though, we will not have to have to wait too long to find out.

Apple To Buy Intel’s 5G Modem Business For US$ 1 Billion

American technology giants Apple and Qualcomm dropped all pending lawsuits against each other and signed a six-year licensing agreement back in the month of April this year. As a repercussion of the decision, chipmaking giant Intel, who was the chief supplier of smartphone modem for the Apple iPhone for the last few years; announced that it is quitting any development on 5G modems. Now, the latest reports reveal that Apple is in advanced talks in buying the dormant 5G modem division from Intel for a hefty sum of US$ 1 Billion.

    About the deal

    Apple

As mentioned above, due to the settlement between Apple and Qualcomm, Intel announced that it is quitting the 5G modem business. The reason cited of the decision by the latter was that Apple is its most important client and without it, the company does not see a path forward. With the chipmaker moving out of the modem business, Apple could really benefit with the company’s resources and expertise. Intel was also the sole supplier of network modems for the iPhones launched in the year 2018, which include the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.

While the images provide authenticity to the claim that Google is working on bringing Android to feature phones; the source claims to take the aforementioned information with a grain of salt, as the images could very well be of a Nokia handset running a new version of KaiOS, another popular OS for feature phones.
