Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus previously announced that the Almond colour variant of its latest flagship device, the OnePlus 7 Pro will go live on sale on June 14. The device features best-in-class specifications and features at a comparatively affordable price tag than its competitors. As per latest reports, the much-awaited colour variant will be only available in the 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM configuration.

The OnePlus 7 Pro Almond variant as mentioned above, features 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM. The smartphone will be available at a price of Rs. 52,999. For people looking for a more affordable deal, the Mirror Grey variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage is priced at Rs. 48,999. The Almond variant will go on sale at 12 noon starting June 14.

OnePlus at an event on the 14th of May launched the OnePlus 7 Pro flagship smartphone. It was announced alongside the regular OnePlus 7, the Bullets Wireless 2 and the OnePlus Warp Car Charger. The device was launched in three locations, namely New York in the US, London in the UK and Bengaluru in India simultaneously. At the time of its unveil in India, the OnePlus 7 Pro was available in two colours: Mirror Grey and Nebula Blue. As per the company’s official website, the third Almond Colour Variant of the device will be officially launched on the 14th of June.

Design

The design of the OnePlus 7 is reminiscent of its predecessor, the OnePlus 6T. The device measures 157.7 × 74.8 × 8.2 mm and weighs in at 182 grams. It has a robust build with glass on both the front and back which is held together with a metal chassis. The front of the smartphone has negligible bezels on all sides with a waterdrop notch on top of the display.

The OnePlus 7 houses the power button along with the mute switch on the right side of the smartphone. The left has the volume rockers along with the SIM card tray. Over at the rear of the device, on the attractive gradient coloured back panel the vertically placed dual rear camera with an LED flash is present. The company branding is placed on the bottom of the rear of the handset.

Display

The OnePlus 7 has a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 px. The display on the smartphone is the same as its predecessor, with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It supports features such as Reading Mode, Night Mode and Video Enhancer. The display on the OnePlus 7 as mentioned above, has a waterdrop notch on top to maximise the screen real estate. It also houses the in display fingerprint scanner which is reported to be 1.5 times faster than the previous generation.

Processor

One of the key highlighting features of OnePlus 7 is its chipset. The smartphone is kitted with the Snapdragon 855 SoC which is also present on devices including the Galaxy S10 lineup (US Variant) and the Xiaomi Black Shark 2. The chipset is manufactured using a 7 nm fabrication process which makes it highly power efficient in comparison to the 10nm Snapdragon 845 that the OnePlus 6T incorporates. The Snapdragon 855 consists of an Octa-Core Kryo CPU and the Adreno 640 GPU.

Memory and Storage

The OnePlus 7 is available in two storage variants, the base model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage; and the top tier variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard memory. It is also one of the world’s first smartphones after the OnePlus 7 Pro to feature UFS 3.0 2 lane storage. This should provide it with class-leading read and write speeds along with the LPDDR4X RAM which should result in fast performance.

Camera

In terms of optics, the OnePlus 7 has a dual rear camera setup consisting of an f/1.7 aperture equipped 48MP sensor; with an f/2.4 aperture equipped 5MP depth sensor. The primary lens uses the ubiquitous Sony IMX 586 sensor also found in smartphones such as the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Honor View20. For selfies, the OnePlus 7 has an f/2.0 aperture equipped 16 MP sensor housed in the waterdrop notch on top of the display.

In terms of video recording, the rear cameras of the device are capable of shooting at 4K resolution at up to 60fps. Video from the front camera is restricted to 1080p resolution at 30fps. Additionally, the camera supports features such as HDR, Portrait Mode and Studio Lighting.

Battery and Other Features

The OnePlus 7 is powered by a 3700 mAh non-removable battery which is the same size as its predecessor. For fast top-ups, the battery supports 20W fast charging via the bundled Dash charger inside the box. The device runs on the company’s homegrown OxygenOS which is based on top of the latest Android 9 Pie.

Connectivity and Colour Options

Connectivity options on the OnePlus 7 include dual 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS and bottom mounted USB Type C Port. The USB Type C supports the USB 3.0 standard, which should make the read and write speeds on the device faster than before. Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has tasted success in regard of the positive reviews received by the OnePlus 7 Pro. At the launch event held on May 14, the company also unveiled its more affordable variant of the flagship called the OnePlus 7. Except the primary camera and the chipset, the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro have some significant features that set both of them apart. The company initially announced that it will launch the OnePlus 7 in India somewhere in June, and as per an Amazon listing, the smartphone is making its way to the Indian market on the 4th of June, 2019.

Unlocking Bootloader On OnePlus 7 Pro Results In Loss Of Widevine L1
After the sensational success of the OnePlus 6T from 2018, Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus launched its latest flagship smartphone in the form of OnePlus 7 Pro. In comparison to its predecessor, the newly launched device has received significant updates some of which include a 6.67 inch AMOLED display with 90 Hz refresh rate and a pop up selfie camera. Accrediting to the said features, the OnePlus 7 Pro has been warmly welcomed by the consumers across the globe. However, within the two short weeks of its announcement, the device has been hit with a couple of stumbling blocks.

Freshly, a member on XDA developers discovered that unlocking the bootloader on the OnePlus 7 Pro will result in loss of Widevine L1 certification. The certification is essential for streaming HD content from applications like Netflix. Therefore, if a OnePlus 7 Pro user unlocks the bootloader on their handset, the device will be limited to streaming online content in 480p resolution.

What Is Bootloader & Why Do You Want To Unlock It?

Bootloader is a piece of code that runs before any operating system is loaded into the system of a computer or smartphone. Each OS has a set of specific bootloader, therefore, in an effort to add custom ROM on a handset, the bootloader needs to be unlocked. OEMs generally tend to ship smartphones with locked bootloaders which ensures tight security. As with unlocked bootloader, users can unknowingly install malicious programs on their device resulting in compromise of software.

The previously mentioned stumbling blocks that the OnePlus 7 Pro has been previously subjected to are as follows:
- Customers experiencing a high pitched noise from the earpiece while receiving phone calls. Though the issue seems to be curbed by turning off the Wi Fi while making calls.
- A reddit user highlighted that the OnePlus 7 Pro’s telephoto lens does not support lossless 3x optical. In fact, the sensor can only offer 2.2x optical zoom while rest of the task is achieved via software.

OnePlus launched its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 7 Pro on the 14th of May. The device was announced alongside the regular OnePlus 7 and features top tier specifications at a comparatively lower price than similarly specced handsets. A few days ago, early buyers of the device complained about phantom touch issues while using certain applications. Now, reports of another problem, this time pertaining to a high pitched noise from the earpiece of the OnePlus 7 Pro have surfaced online.

OnePlus 7 Pro Earpiece Issue

As mentioned above, early buyers of the OnePlus 7 Pro have been reported to face issues while using the voice call function of the handset. Some users claim they hear a high pitched noise emanating from the earpiece of the device. Since the discovery, more users have started complaining about a similar problem on the official OnePlus forum. While this issue is most prevalent when on a voice call, in some cases the sound can still be heard even when the smartphone is on standby. Unfortunately, it is not known if the problem is with the global variant of the handset or just for a particular demographic.

The problem with the earpiece of the OnePlus 7 Pro may be a software issue; as a user on the forum has claimed that they faced a similar issue with the OnePlus 3T which was launched in the year 2016. This problem apparently dissolved after a software update seeded by the company. It is thus believed OnePlus, as soon as it acknowledges the issue, will push an Over The Air (OTA) update to fix it. A temporary fix of the noise from the earpiece is claimed to be turning off the Wi-Fi of the smartphone. It can be done either through the notification toggle or by going into Settings, navigating to the Network and Internet option and disabling Wi-Fi.

OnePlus 7 Pro Camera May Not Have A True 3x Optical Zoom

OnePlus has found itself under the same scrutiny with their latest flagship smartphone the OnePlus 7 Pro in a similar fashion to its previous lineup of 2017, namely the OnePlus 5. A Reddit post by a user had discovered that the telephoto lens on the OnePlus 7 Pro captures pictures in a 2.2x optical zoom rather than the advertised 3x optical zoom that OnePlus had claimed.

The triple camera setup which features the 8MP telephoto lens alongside the 16MP wide-angle lens and the primary 48MP camera was one of the key differences between the ‘Pro’ and standard version of the OnePlus 7. The Pro uses the telephoto lens along with the primary sensor to capture portrait shots but apparently the field of view while using the telephoto lens for portrait clicks and the 3x zoom differ. As it turns out the sensor is actually a 13MP Samsung S5K3M5 that is cropped down to 8MP to hit the 3x zoom.

OnePlus advertising the telephoto lens with a 78mm focal length does make it capable for 3x optical zoom. Although as the sensor has been cropping the image down to 8MP, the effective focal length actually achieved is 57mm or in other words 2.2x zoom. This falls in line with OnePlus previously false advertising the OnePlus 5 to have a ‘lossless’ 2x zoom on its telephoto lens, that was only capable of 1.6x zoom but used digital processing to achieve the remaining 0.4x.

OnePlus 7 Pro Software Features To Be Added To Older OnePlus Smartphones

Chinese technology company OnePlus launched the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro in the month of May. Alongside, the company introduced some key updates to its operating system, known as Oxygen OS. The OS has received positive reviews globally due to its simplicity and responsiveness. With the latest update, OnePlus added new features like Zen Mode and Screen Recorder. As per reports, the aforementioned features will make their way to older OnePlus devices, including the OnePlus 6, 6T, 5 and 5T.

Zen Mode And Screen Recorder

Zen Mode is a feature that basically locks a user out of his/her device for 20 minutes. The user will not see/hear any notifications on the device, and at the same time, applications will be unusable as well. The only two features that are accessible is the call application and the camera. In case users decide to turn off Zen Mode before the time period of 20 minutes, they are out of luck, since no workaround will disable Zen Mode. Even restarting the OnePlus 7 Pro doesn’t help, as the Zen Mode timer continues from the same point you left it on.

The screen recorder, on the other hand, allows native recording (in the same number of frames per second) of the screen’s display without any overlay or watermark. Gamers can record their gaming sessions and export them, or users can create how-to videos for conveying specific information. As per reports, some OnePlus users side loaded these two applications into their older devices, which didn’t function as desired. For instance, sound capture was disabled during screen recording and Zen Mode was still allowing notifications to push through.

OnePlus has acknowledged that Zen Mode and Screen Recording will be pushed to older OnePlus devices in the immediate future. The company has also released a statement regarding how users don’t need to sideload the applications since the firmware of older smartphones isn’t designed to support the same.

Earlier this month, Google held its annual developer conference, Google I/O in Mountain View, California where it showcased the upcoming Android Q. The future Android update will introduce several new features while simultaneously enhancing the existing ones. The consumer-ready update of the latest Android version is expected to roll out in the month of August. However, interested device owners can experience the Beta version of Android Q which takes a bit of tinkering to install.

During the conference, Google published a list of OEMs whose devices are eligible for the Beta software update. As promised, Chinese smartphone maker, OnePlus has dropped the said Android Q beta for its latest flagship smartphone duo which includes the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. Consequently, interested OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro owners can install the latest software on their devices and experience what the future version of Android has on offer. Though, it must be noted that Beta software has certain issues which will be fixed gradually with upcoming updates. The list of known issues is listed below:

- Cannot send SMS when VoLTE is on

Note:
- The update will delete the existing data on your smartphone, therefore backup important data before installing the update.
- Make sure your device is 30% charged and has at least 3 GB of available storage space.
Steps:
- Download the latest ROM upgrade zip package. (OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro)
- Copy the ROM upgrade package to the phone storage.
- Navigate to Settings > System > System Updates > Click top right icon > Local upgrade > Click on the corresponding installation package > upgrade
- After the upgrade is complete, click Restart.
- The phone will boot into recovery mode to format user data, it will reboot again after formatting.

Design

The design of the OnePlus 7 Pro has been thoroughly revamped in comparison to its predecessor. The device measures 162.6×75.9×8.8 mm and tips the scale at 206 grams. It has a robust build with glass on both the front and back which is held together with a metal chassis. The front of the smartphone has negligible bezels on all sides with no obstructing notch in sight.

The OnePlus 7 Pro has a pop-up selfie camera which is similar to the one present on the Vivo V15 Pro. The rear of the handset has an attractive gradient coloured panel which houses the company branding and triple camera setup. The right side of the smartphone is occupied by the power button and the sound profile selector while its left side is occupied by the volume rockers. Disparate to its predecessor, the new device has SIM Card slot on the bottom.

Display

The OnePlus 7 Pro is fitted with a gorgeous 6.67 inch Fluid AMOLED display that tapers towards the sides. The display panel has a praiseworthy QHD+ resolution of 3120 x 1440 px and a pixel density of 516 ppi. Another notable feature of the display is it’s 90 Hz refresh rate which provides for an enhanced viewing experience.

Furthermore, the display of the smartphone is laminated with Gorilla Glass 5 which safeguards it against scratches and accidental drops. Like the OnePlus 6T, the new device also features an in-display fingerprint sensor along with support for face unlock and the conventional pattern lock.

Processor

One of the key highlighting features of the OnePlus 7 Pro is its chipset. The smartphone is kitted with the Snapdragon 855 SoC which is also present on devices including the Galaxy S10 lineup (US Variant) and the Xiaomi Black Shark 2. The chipset is manufactured using a 7 nm fabrication process which makes it highly power efficient in comparison to the Snapdragon 845 that the OnePlus 6T incorporates. The Snapdragon 855 consists of an Octa-Core Kryo CPU and the Adreno 640 GPU.

Memory and Storage

The OnePlus 7 Pro is the world’s first smartphone to utilise the UFS 3.0 2 lane storage standard which has very high read and write speeds. It also packs high-speed LPDDR4X RAM which contributes to nimble performance. The smartphone is offered in three storage variants which are listed below:

Camera

Talking about the cameras on the OnePlus 7 Pro, it has a single front-facing selfie camera and triple rear facing cameras. The front camera is an f/2.0 aperture equipped 16 MP sensor that resides in the aforementioned pop up mechanism. OnePlust claims that the front camera elevator mechanism has been tested over 3,00,000 times and assures unaltered functionality for 5 years if it is used 150 times a day.

To further protect the elevating module, the mechanism can instantly retract itself when it is in freefall which is detected using the accelerometer and the gyroscope on the device. The triple rear camera setup of the OnePlus 7 Pro is vertically arranged in an elongated capsule-like module that slightly protrudes out of the back panel. The setup consists of an f/1.6 aperture equipped 48 Sony IMX586 sensor, an f/2.4 aperture equipped 8 MP telephoto sensor and an f/2.2 aperture equipped 16 MP ultra wide sensor that has a field of view (FOV) of 117°.

Battery and Other Features

The OnePlus 7 Pro is powered by a large 4,000 mAh battery that supports 30 W Warp Charge. The Warp Charge 30 was first introduced with the limited McLaren Edition of the OnePlus 6T. The smartphone runs on OxygenOS 9 which is built on top of the latest Android 9 Pie. It also packs dual Stereo speakers which are Dolby Atmos certified that deliver loud and clear audio output. To keep the temperatures of the device in check while running resource hungry tasks like games, the OnePlus 7 Pro has 10 layer Liquid Cooling System.

Connectivity options on the OnePlus 7 Pro include dual 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS and bottom mounted USB Type C Port. OnePlus 7 Pro Launched With 90Hz Display And Snapdragon 855 SoC
OnePlus at an event on the 14th of May has launched the OnePlus 7 Pro flagship smartphone. It was announced alongside the regular OnePlus 7, the Bullets Wireless 2 and the OnePlus Warp Car Charger. The device was launched in three locations, namely New York in the US, London in the UK and Bengaluru in India simultaneously.

The OnePlus 7 Pro as mentioned above, is the latest flagship offering from the company and the beefed-up variant of the OnePlus 7. The smartphone measures 162.6 x 75.9 x 8.8mm and weighs 206 g. It has an all-glass design on the front and back with a metal chassis for reinforcement. The device has a 6.67 inch Fluid AMOLED display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 px which gives it a pixel density of 516 ppi.

The display on the OnePlus 7 Pro has a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz which is also seen in handsets like the Asus ROG Phone and Nubia Red Magic 3. To maximise the screen real estate, the smartphone has minimal bezels on all sides of the display and utilises a pop-up mechanism to house the front-facing camera. For biometric security and rapidly unlocking the device, it features an in display fingerprint scanner with support for face unlock technology.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 7 Pro is kitted with the 7nm Snapdragon 855 SoC which consists of an Octa-core CPU and the Adreno 640 GPU. In terms of optics, the smartphone has a triple rear camera setup comprised of an f/1.6 aperture equipped 48 MP primary sensor; and an f/2.4 aperture equipped 8 MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom; the third sensor used is an f/2.2 aperture equipped 16 MP ultra wide angle lens with a Field of View (FoV) of 117 degrees.

It can capture 4K videos at 60fps and supports Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) for smoother footage. For selfies, an f/2.0 aperture equipped 16 MP camera is housed in the pop-up mechanism on top of the display. Video from the front camera is capped at 1080p resolution at 30fps. The OnePlus 7 Pro is powered by a non-removable 4000mAh battery with support for 30W Warp Charging technology. The smartphone uses a new X-axis Haptic Vibration Motor which the company claims will provide it with better haptic feedback than the OnePlus 6T. In terms of connectivity, the device supports Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. The OnePlus 7 Pro also boasts of Dual Stereo Speakers and Audio tuned by the Dolby Atmos technology. It is the first globally available smartphone to feature the Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 3.0 standard, which should result in fast read and write speeds. It will be available in three colours at launch, namely Mirror Grey, Nebula Blue and Almond.

OnePlus Expects To Deliver A Great Camera On The OnePlus 7 Pro

OnePlus will launch the latest iteration of its flagship smartphones on the 14th of May. These devices, confirmed to be the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro, will be the successor to the OnePlus 6T launched last year. Shot On The OnePlus 7 Pro

The Chinese smartphone OEM OnePlus has partnered up with the American video streaming giant Netflix. With this collaboration, the upcoming OnePlus 7 Pro has been used to click the posters for the second season of a series by the streaming service called Sacred Games. Various posters featuring the cast of the show have been shot using the smartphone. These images were released by the company to tease the imaging capabilities of its flagship device.

The second collaboration with OnePlus has been done by the renowned satellite channel National Geographic. Three photographers at National Geographic will journey across North America capture images of nature which will be then published in a special edition magazine slated to release in July.
