Upcoming Xiaomi Smartphone May Get A 200-Megapixel Camera

Xiaomi may soon be following Motorola in putting a 200-megapixel camera in an upcoming smart phone, as it seems that the former is working in the tech too. Reports claim that there is another phone that will launch with a 200-megapixel sensor. Said phone will also feature a 120Hz display, 5,000 mAh battery, and a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset.

While the leak didn’t name the brand, some speculate that it is a Xiaomi phone. More specifically, the Redmi K50S Pro or the Xiaomi 12T Pro. Both may end up being the same phone, just different names for different regions.

The HP1 sensor is also being used by Motorola

The sensor is going to be from Samsung, either their ISOCELL HP1 or ISOCELL HP3. Both are 200 megapixels, with the difference being the pixel size and optical format – 1/1.22” and 0.64µm and 1/1.4” and 0.56µm, respectively (before 4-in-1 binning).

Motorola is using the larger HP1 sensor, recently posting a camera sample of it. The sample shows what the sensor can do with its 4-in-1 pixel binning enabled, which is still a 50-megapixel picture.

It’s not quite clear which sensor Xiaomi will go for. However, given the flagship spec 8+ Gen 1 chipset, The HP1 makes more sense.

The latest 12S Ultra features a 50-megapixel main camera
    Xiaomi 12S Ultra

Xiaomi’s latest flagship, the recently launched 12S Ultra, currently features a 50-megapixel main camera. Compared to this, the HP1 sensor sounds better on paper. It will be interesting to see how the sensor will perform in real world testing. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra features an ultra-wide and telephoto lens, which are both 48-megapixel. The telephoto camera has a periscope lens, giving it up to 120x zoom capabilities. Furthermore, will the current partnership between Xiaomi and Leica continue for the upcoming device? We will have to wait and watch to find out.

A 200-megapixel ultra premium smartphone sounds quite exciting. But, as smartphone prices creep further upwards, how many people will actually buy one? A 200-megapixel flagship is not going to be cheap. Let us know your thoughts below.

Mi Notebook 14 Launched in India Starting Rs. 41,999

Xiaomi has launched their first line of Notebooks in India, The Mi Notebook 14. The Notebook 14 is available in two models, a standard edition which features a Core i5 CPU and a Horizon Edition which has the Core i7 CPU.

The Mi Notebook 14 as the name suggests features a 14″ Full HD 1920x1080px Anti-glare Display. This in an all aluminium unibody style design that resembles a MacBook.

The Notebook weighs in at 1.35 kilogram and bears no branding on the top case. The chiclet style keyboard features a scissor mechanism with an ABS texture. Each key has a 1.3mm of key travel and able spring making it comfortable to type.

The base variant of the Mi Notebook 14 features a 10th generation core i5-10210U CPU which has a 1.6GHz quad-core setup with a boost clock up to 4.2GHz. this is paired with 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 RAM and 256GB of SATA 3 SSD storage. The second variant bumps the storage to 512GB of SATA 3 SSD.

The Horizon Edition  two options for the CPU, the same Core i5-10210U  and a Core i7-10510U CPU with a 1.8GHz quad-core setup and a boost clock up to 4.9GHz. You still get 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 RAM, however, the storage has an optional m.2 NVME PCI Express Gen 3 SSD upgrade with 512GB of space. This has a rated 3000 MB/s sequential read and a 1800 MB/s sequential write speed. Drastically boosting I/O and Read Write operations.

The Horizon edition with the i7 also adds a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type C port, along with the standard ports which include 2 Type-A USB 3.1 Gen 1 and a single USB 2.0, 1 HDMI port a Combo Audio Jack and the Charging Port.

The Mi Notebook 14 Horizon edition also has a GeForce MX350 2GB GDDR5 VRAM equipped DGPU. This makes it more suitable of open ended tasks like limited gaming and photo video editing.

The Laptops don’t charge via USB C and only one variant has the port which is limited to data. The Mi Notebook 14 has 2x2W Stereo speakers with DTS audio, although in first impressions the volume seems low.

The display brightness also caps at 250nits which when paired with the anti glare coating on the screen makes visibility of the otherwise good display limited. The anti glare coating works in well lit environments to block reflections and glare, along with smudges and fingerprints for people who like to tap their screens when they point.

The Mi Notebook 14 also misses a webcam which in the current world climate seems like a necessary inclusion. Xiaomi does include their USB Webcam in the box, which has a max 720px 30fps mode.

The Mi Notebook 14 starts off at Rs. 41999 for the base variant with a 256 GB SATA SSD. The upgraded variant with 512 GB SATA SSD costs Rs. 44999. If you opt for the NVIDIA MX250 discreet GPU you will pay Rs. 47999.

The Mi Notebook 14 Horizon edition with a 512GB SATA SSD will cost Rs. 54999. If you choose the upgraded NVME SSD the price is bumped up to 59,999. All variants offer Rs. 2000 cash back to HDFC cards.

    Xiaomi Mi A3

Xiaomi Mi A3 makes a noticeable change in design aesthetics over its predecessors with its new 3D glass finish on the rear. It offers an attractive look with gradient colour accents changing reflection with the angle they are viewed from. Xiaomi Mi A3

For photography, the Mi A3 features a triple camera setup with the primary shooter being a 48MP sensor. The latter two are an 8MP ultra-wide lens alongside a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, a large 32MP sensor for selfies can be found on a waterdrop notch. Notably, the Mi A3 is the first in the series to house the fingerprint scanner under the display. Furthermore, the handset houses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 SoC with Adreno 610 GPU. The chipset has an Octa-core CPU and the Adreno 610 GPU.

    Xiaomi Mi A3

Xiaomi’s Mi A3 is powered by a large 4,030mAh battery which supports 18W fast charging, however, the fast charger needs to be bought separately, as the provided capacity in the retail box is limited to 10W. For connectivity, the smartphone offers Bluetooth 5.0, an IR Blaster, USB Type-C port, Dual 4G VoLTE and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The last feature was omitted in the Mi A2 much to the loyal users disliking. • Realme 5 Pro Vs Redmi Note 7 Pro: Which One To Choose?

Realme 5 Pro Vs Redmi Note 7 Pro: Which One To Choose?

On the 20th of August, Realme launched two new smartphones which include the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro. As the name suggests, the latter is a beefed-up variant and it sports a better chipset and camera. Going by its pricing, the newly launched device competes against the Redmi Note 7 Pro which is one of the best value smartphones in this segment available in the country.

Both the handsets from Realme and Redmi have similar specs which make it difficult for the consumer to choose the best option. To help solve the dilemma we have laid out the different aspects of the Realme 5 Pro and the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Consequently, after reading the article you will determine which device suits your need and which one you should pick if you planning to buy a mid-ranger.

    Design and Build

In terms of build, both the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Realme 5 Pro have glass on the front and back which is held together with a polycarbonate chassis. The front of the two handsets have a waterdrop notch display which provides them with an elegant look.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro is offered in four colour variants which include Nebula Red, Neptune Blue, Space Black and Astro White. In contrast, the Realme 5 Pro is offered in two variants which include Crystal Green and Crystal Blue.

Based on our design preferences, we feel the holographic rear panel of the Realme 5 Pro looks more appealing therefore we give it the first round.

    Display
    Redmi Note 7 Pro

Both the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Realme 5 Pro are equipped with an LCD display that measures 6.3 inch. Moreover, the resolution of the display panel on the two smartphones is 409 ppi and they have an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

While the former is safeguarded with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 the latter settles down with the Gorilla Glass 3. Due to better display protection, Redmi Note 7 Pro wins this round.

    Battery
    Realme 5 Pro

The Redmi Note 7 Pro is powered a 4,000 mAh battery that supports 18 W fast charging. On the other hand, the Realme 5 Pro has a slightly larger battery which has a capacity of 4,035 mAh and it also supports VOOC 3.0 technology.

The technology allows the smartphone to be charged with a maximum power of 20 W which is tad bid higher than the Note 7 Pro. However, the Realme 5 Pro ships with a 20 W compatible charger whereas its competitor is shipped with a 10 W charger. Slightly bigger battery and in-box fast charger make Realme’s offering take this round.

    Chipset
    Redmi Note 7 Pro

Both the smartphones are kitted with Qualcomm chipsets. While the Realme 5 Pro packs the Snapdragon 712 SoC, the Redmi Note 7 Pro packs the Snapdragon 675 SoC.

Chipsets on both smartphones consist of Octa-Core CPU though they have disparate GPUs. The SD712 incorporates the Adreno 616 while the SD675 Adreno 612 GPU. Although we are yet to test the Realme’s offering, the performance that the two can churn out is expected to be comparable. Therefore, based on the assumptions this round results in a tie.

    Other Features
    Redmi Note 7 Pro
    Redmi Note 7 Pro

Connectivity options on the two smartphones are also heterogenous which include dual 4G VoLTE, 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5 mm headphone jack and the bottom-mounted USB Type C port which can be used for charging and data transfer.

Both the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Realme 5 Pro also have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor which allows to rapidly and securely bypass the lock screen. However, one feature that only the former offers, is an IR blaster. Although not a huge deal breaker or deal maker, this feature can come in handy more often than not.

Just for the record, the inclusion of an infrared sensor makes the Note 7 Pro steer ahead of its competitor in this segment.

Though due to a higher number of camera sensors, faster-charging support (along with fast charger) and a refreshing design we feel the Realme 5 Pro could be a better choice than the Redmi Note 7 Pro for a lot of consumers.

  • Xiaomi Plans To Disrupt The Budget Segment With This Smartphone

Xiaomi Plans To Disrupt The Budget Segment With This Smartphone

Last week, we detailed the TENAA listing of an unreleased Xiaomi Smartphone which was believed to be the Redmi 8. According to freshly leaked images, it is instead the Redmi 8A which will be targeted towards the budget segment. As the name suggests, it will succeed the Redmi 7A which debuted in the month of May in China and was later launched in India.

Although the strategy seems counterproductive to launch a successor in less than 6 months, we assume this could be due to rising competition from companies like Realme. Readers who do not know, the latter has already launched a multitude of handsets in over a year of its existence. Moreover, its latest lineup which consists of the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro will be unveiled on the 20th of August.

As per the leaked images, the Redmi 8A features a waterdrop notch display on the front that has a high screen to body ratio. The rear of the device is made out of plastic and it accommodates the company branding and dual camera setup which is arranged vertically in a capsule-shaped ridge. Besides it also features a fingerprint sensor which is a welcoming addition.

While we have already talked about the detailed specifications of the Redmi 8a in this post. We will reiterate upon the features which according to us will make this budget smartphone stand out of the crowd.

Before we begin, it must be noted that these features will only stay relevant if Xiaomi manages to price the upcoming handset similar to the Redmi 7A. According to us, the pricing of the device should be around the Rs 6,500 mark for the base variant which is about Rs 500 expensive than the corresponding variant its preceding device.

Best Features of The Upcoming Redmi 8A

Xioami Redmi 8A Dual Camera & Fingerprint Sensor
    • Display: The Redmi 8A features a 6.3-inch HD+ display which is a significant upgrade over its predecessor that has a 5.45 inch panel. Moreover, it has a high screen to body ratio which is achieved due to the waterdrop notch present on top of the display.
    • Battery: A lot of customers that buy entry-level Android smartphones are migrating from feature phones while some buy them to use as a secondary handset. For both the scenarios, a large battery is important and 5,000 mAh battery found on the Redmi 8a can easily allow day-long backup. In fact, for most users, the battery will last for 2 days or even more.
    • Storage: Due to affordable internet plans, the consumption of digital media has also seen multi-fold growth all around the world. Although the maximum number of Android smartphones support memory expansion via microSD card, most users never bother to buy and install one. Therefore, storage as much as 64 GB on an entry-level smartphone is a great feature.
    • Fingerprint Sensor: In order to keep costs down whilst still providing a form of biometric verification, companies have opted to go with the face unlock feature which was even observed with the Redmi 7A. However, all of us know, the kind of reliability they offer. Therefore, the fingerprint sensor on the Redmi 8A is a great addition. As it is more reliable and at times easier to the use in situations like under-lit environments.

Mysterious Xiaomi Smartphone Hits TENAA, Could Be The Redmi 8

On the 16th of August, an upcoming Redmi branded smartphone with model number ‘M1908C3IC’ was listed on the Chinese regulatory website TENAA. While some new agencies claim that this is the Redmi Note 8, which was previously announced to launch soon, we feel that is not the case.

Instead, this could be the Redmi 8, the successor of the Redmi 7 which was launched in the month of March. In the past, Redmi smartphones have been upgraded once a year however this may change with the upcoming device. As it has just been six months since the current gen Redmi smartphone was launched.

We believe this could be a new strategy that Xiaomi has to adopt due to stiff competition from companies like Realme. For users who do not know, in just over 1.5 years of its existence, Realme has launched three generations (1,2,3) and the 4th generation, the Realme 5 will be announced on the 20th of August.

In terms of design, the alleged Redmi 8 features a water drop notch display on the front along with a plastic back. The front of the smartphone features a considerable chin which houses the Redmi branding. Overall the front of this smartphone is reminiscent of Redmi 7A which is a budget offering.

The rear panel of the alleged Redmi 8 has a glossy finish which houses a fingerprint sensor, dual camera setup along with an LED flash, and the company branding which is inscribed vertically. The left side of the smartphone is occupied by what seems to be the power button and the volume rocker.

Unfortunately, the TENAA listing does not contain any specifications of the device, therefore, we will have to wait until the listing is updated or the handset is officially launched. Speaking of which, its launch date is currently unannounced, nonetheless, the mandatory certification suggests that smartphone will launch soon.
