Xiaomi Discontinues The Mi Max And Mi Note Lineup

Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has announced that it is discontinuing two of its iconic lineup of smartphones. The CEO of the company, in a post on Weibo, the country’s major social networking website has officially declared that Xiaomi will discontinue the Mi Max and Mi Note series; as it has no new plans of releasing a device under the name this year. Notably, While the original Mi Max was released in the year 2016, the first Mi Note was introduced a year before, in 2015.

    About the decision
    Mi Max 2

As mentioned above, the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun has officially confirmed; that the company has no intention of releasing a smartphone under the Mi Max or the Mi Note lineup this year. In his post, he has explained the variation between the Xiaomi and Redmi brand of handsets. According to Jun, while the Xiaomi brand focuses on the higher, more premium end of the market with the Mi series and the MIX lineup; the Redmi brand is centred towards value. With product lineups such as the Redmi A series and the Redmi Note and K series, the brand focuses more on the value and e-commerce market.

While the company has not specified the reason for the cancellation of the Mi Max and Mi Note lineup of smartphones, it is being speculated there are many. With the humongous size of the Mi Max series, it catered to all but a niche of people who wanted a giant device. Additionally, the Mi Note series was continually overshadowed by other flagship devices of the company. While it is not certain, it is completely possible that the aforementioned reasons led the company to take the decision.

Also, it is not explicitly said that the next generation smartphone in the series, in this case, the Mi Max 4 or the Mi Note 4 will never make an appearance. Xiaomi has just said there will be no device launch this year, which may mean that if it deems it worthy, it may launch a handset in any of the series starting next year.

Realme India To Launch A 64 MP Camera Smartphone

Realme has just unveiled its plans on launching the worlds first smartphone with a 64MP camera. This new device will have its debut in India before being launched to the global market, as promised by Realme. The Shenzhen-based Chinese company was once a subsidiary of OPPO. Notably, in the past, Xiaomi had also claimed to launch worlds first smartphone with a 64MP camera sensor which is yet to happen.Realme

Realme is developing the smartphone which will utilize Samsung’s GW1 camera sensor to achieve the 64MP title. The handset which will premiere in India has the largest sensor that can be found in a smartphone at 1/1.72 inch. This enables a large 1.6µm pixel size that is capable of better and clearer shots in various low light scenarios.

    Realme

Realme India’s CEO went on Twitter to share the first ever shot (as seen below) taken by the yet unnamed upcoming smartphone. Notably, the device will be equipped with a Tetracell type sensor which is based similar to the Quad Bayer technology (a colour reproduction method used in a multi-camera device). This allows for the camera sensor to output 16MP images natively.

According to the image, the upcoming Realme device will sport three additional camera sensors alongside its 64MP primary shooter. The watermark in the image proves that the smartphone will have an AI-assisted quad camera module at the back. The tweet also ensures that a lot more of such camera samples would soon be teased by the smartphone manufacturing company.

Unfortunately, internal specifications and hardware regarding the handset are still at large as well. The upcoming Realme smartphone is expected that the device may launch before year-end or failing that early 2020.

Samsung is bracing for the launch of its 10th generation Galaxy Note smartphone which is expected to happen in the month of August. Similar to what was seen with the Galaxy S10 lineup, the Galaxy Note 10 is also reported to be launched in four variants. The four different models of the flagship handset will allegedly be called Galaxy Note 10e, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 10 Pro and Note 10 5G.

Similar to the Galaxy S10e, the Note 10e will be the most affordable device while the 5G variant of Note 10 will be the most expensive and spec laden handset out of the bunch. Even though the expected launch date of the upcoming devices is still far, several details about them have been revealed via unofficial sources.

The Note 10e is reported to sport a 6.28 inch display while the standard Note 10  is reported to sport a 6.7 or 6.75 inch display. In terms of design, the upcoming devices are speculated to be significantly different than its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 9. Leaked renders and screen protector images exhibit that the future Note 10 smartphones will have negligible bezels around the display and high screen to body ratio. Like the OnePlus 7 Pro, the Note 10 5G and Note 10 Pro are reported to have a display that tapers towards the side.

The key distinguishing feature of the Note 10 smartphones is told to have is a centre-mounted punch hole for the front facing selfie camera. Similar to what was observed with the S10 lineup, all smartphones in the 10th Gen Note range are assumed to have an in-display fingerprint scanner except for the Galaxy Note 10e. The latter is expected to have a side mounted fingerprint scanner which will be built into power button.

According to the schematics, the smartphone will sport a punch-hole camera in the top left corner of the screen. The front panel is devoid of any seems apart from bezels on the top alongside an earpiece with necessary sensors and a buttonless bottom. The back, however, is a familiar design that has already been seen before. LG V40 ThinQ is clearly used as an inspiration for the rear layout, as the schematics show a striking resemblance.

The triple camera module at the back is in an identical pattern to the LG V40 ThinQ with a horizontal placement side by side. A flash flanks the right of the camera set up while the fingerprint sensor is placed right below it. This proves that the new device will not feature an in-display fingerprint scanner at the front. Changes to LG’s formula has been historically slow with the rate of adoption being behind other OEMs at this moment.

Unfortunately, no information about specifications as such is available regarding the upcoming device, or rather even if it is planned on being mass produced. With this only assumptions can be made regarding its specifications and hardware. If the device is similar to LG V40 ThinQ then it might see the same sort of top-notch hardware treatment if it launches the coming months.
