The Samsung Developer Conference is just a day away and the hype around the event is increasing. Samsung will give the world a first glance at its foldable Galaxy smartphone, which also doubles up as a tablet. The foldable device had been under production for a long time and sports a 7.3 inch foldable internal OLED display.
Two-Fold Teaser
Samsung updated the pictures on its Twitter handle and Facebook page. The new image features a ‘folding’ logo which obviously points towards the imminent launch of the folding phone. The folding phone has been given the title of Samsung Galaxy ‘F’ according to sources and doubles up as a tablet. There had been a lot of speculation regarding what kind of design Samsung would settle with for the device, and latest reports claim they have the answer. They stated that Samsung will use a 7.3 inch foldable internal OLED display and a 4.6 inch external OLED display. The internal display will hide completely when you fold the device and the external display will let you use it as a smartphone.
Developer Conference
The device will take centre stage at Samsung’s Developer Conference. The official SDC app also states that Samsung will display their new Android 9 Pie Beta program and a brand new Galaxy UX. It also states that we will get to see ‘how a foldable displanew experience creates a totally e’. However, this is not the first folding display. A Chinese company, Rouyu has already shown their display running on the unannounced Snapdragon 8150 ( a.k.a Snapdragon 855). The device is available for pre-order and a lot of people also had used the device hands-on.
However, as we have seen before, it doesn’t matter that much as to who introduced the technology first. It is expected that Samsung phone will produce a much more refined and smoother device when compared to the Rouyu FlexPai. Samsung is also expected to provide more details about its Galaxy Home AI Speaker at the event.

We have all wished that we could build a phone ourselves. Well, the MakerPhone brings you a step closer to this dream. It is a fully functional mobile phone that you can build and code yourself. The kit contains parts and instructions to make the phone yourself. It is meant to be a fun learning experience for beginners who like to use tools and see how every technology functions. This is an interesting concept and the company is currently looking for support through a crowdfunding website.
What You Can Learn
You can learn what a resistor does and how it functions. Leaning about the basics of electronics is a great experience and can get you interested to make more things. You can learn how to solder which can be a great life lesson – something you can use for a lot of different purposes as well! It teaches how to code in Python and as well as the children’s coding application called Scratch. Arduino (which is based on C/C++) is also a part of the learning experience.
They previously have built another DIY gaming console called MAKERbuino and the company says that the DIY phone is different in more ways than one. The MAKERphone includes a color screen and a better micro-controller with their custom software. The phone also has Python programming language compatibility and Scratch programming language compatibility. Other significant changes are dedicated DAC and electronic volume controllers for sound regulation and mp3 playback , 8 individually programmable RGB LEDs and better PCB architecture for easier soldering. And it isn’t all just for show! It can now make calls, has a SIM card, and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
One can also play games such as space invaders, pong, or snake on the phone once the assembly is complete. Apps such as a custom media player that only plays cat videos, programs in Arduino, lines of code in Python are some of it’s many attractions. According to the company, the DIY Kit is made for anyone above 11 years of age. The average build time is around 7 Hours.
MAKERphone circuit board – the main board that connects all the components in a uniform device that can work as a mobile phone
MAKERphone casing – multiple sheets of acrylic cut with the power of lasers. They protect the innards and give MAKERphone this sleek look
128 x 160 full colour TFT LCD – for playing games, displaying phone numbers and everything in between
GSM module – a tiny module responsible for everything related to calling and texting other people
Main microcomputer module – a dual core processor with built-in Wi-Fi, BLE, and a charging circuit
Sound module – a board with a DAC (digital to analog converter) chip and a headphone jack for music playback (responsible for ringtones, alarms, game sound effects)
Amplifier module – makes loud buzzes, bleeps and bloops
Stick-on antenna – for superb phone signal (a.k.a. send text messages while in the bathroom)

The competition to create smartphones with stand out features is getting more fierce with each passing day. Companies keep on innovating and developing smartphones with new & unique technologies. Some of the distinctive technologies made in recent times include the infamous notch, dual cameras, and the fingerprint reader.
Recently Nubia, a Shenzhen based smartphone company launched their Nubia X smartphone with dual displays & dual fingerprint sensors. During its first flash sale, the company sold 100,000 units in just 57 seconds.
Dual Displays
The Nubia X has front and back dual displays. The front display is a 6.26 inch Full HD+ LCD panel while the rear display is a 5.1-inch OLED panel. The smartphone has a commendable 93.6% screen to body ratio on the front. The Nubia X skips the front-facing camera and the company suggests the dual rear cameras can be used to take high-quality selfies and videos with the help of rear display. Additionally, the rear display can be used for custom signatures, dynamic pictures and advanced controls for high-quality gaming.
Specifications
Front Display: 6.26-inch LCD Full HD+, 2280 × 1080 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio
Rear Display: 5.1-inch OLED, 1520 x 720 pixels
Operating System: Android 8.1 Oreo
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845

Taiwan based Asus is about to launch the Asus Zenfone 6, the successor to the Asus Zenfone 5Z. Recently leaked videos and photos claim that the Zenfone 6 will have a lateral notch. Smartphones with a notch are a very delicate topic as some users like it whereas others don’t. Nowadays, notches on a smartphone come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. The iPhone X and iPhoneXS have wide notches whereas the latest OnePlus 6T gets a tiny a water-drop notch. Now, Asus is experimenting with a completely new notch position; a ‘lateral’ top right side camera notch.
Lateral Notch
In an effort to capitalise the maximum amount of screen real estate, Asus has moved the camera notch on to the right side of the top bezel. The images reveal that the Zenfone 6 has an overall high screen-to-body ratio. The speakerphone is embedded in the top bezel whereas the power button and volume rockers are placed on the right side of the smartphone. The loudspeaker/microphone cut-out, USB Type-C port and the 3.5 mm audio jack are placed on the bottom of the device.
The device seems to have a rear glass build which houses the dual camera and LED flash setup. The lock screen of the device reads “Use fingerprint, face or swipe up to unlock” which affirms that the device supports both Face Unlock & Fingerprint access. However, accurate information regarding the placement of the fingerprint reader is not available. As the rear panel does not have a hollow indentation for the fingerprint reader. Also, the fact that it does not have an onscreen visual indication for fingerprint reduces the chances of an in-display fingerprint reader.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 is the upcoming flagship by Samsung. The smartphone marks the 10th anniversary of the Galaxy S series by Samsung and is therefore bound to be special. Previous leaks of the smartphone have showcased some very exciting features of the Galaxy S10. These include an almost bezel-less display with an in-display camera, among others. Latest reports suggest that Samsung will remove the Iris Scanner on the Galaxy S10. It will instead replaced by an in-display fingerprint sensor.
More Than Meets the Eye
The Iris Scanner was first introduced with the Galaxy Note 7, infamous for its faulty batteries, which caused some smartphones to explode. The technology is seen in all the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S devices launched after the Note 7. TheGalaxy Tab S4 is the most recent device to sport the Iris Scanner. The Iris Scanner by Samsung promised a high level of security with equally high levels of privacy as well. But now, the technology will make way for something bigger and more important; a larger display.
Removing the sensor present on the top will ensure that there is more screen real estate on the Samsung Galaxy S10. The device will either have an in-display front-facing camera or a camera cut out on the display. This will make way for more screen real estate while not settling for a notch. Samsung is the only major Smartphone manufacturer who has not adopted the notch yet. We expect for the company to set a new trend with its next smartphone.
UltraSonic Fingerprint Sensor
The Samsung Galaxy S10 will now have an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader. Almost all the smartphones available in the market today use an optical in-display fingerprint reader. The ultrasonic sensor is much more secure and upto 3x more expensive than its optical counterpart. Qualcomm has already finished the development of this sensor which uses cameras to map the ridges in your fingerprint along with the sweat pores on your fingers. The technology can work well through any type of display and also while in contact with water, sweat or grease.
Realme is a Shenzhen based smartphone manufacturer that sells value for money smartphones. It started as a sub-brand of Oppo, but is an independent company now. Realme launched their first smartphone, the Realme 1 back in the month of May in India. The smartphone took over the Indian market like a storm owing to its killer pricing and features. It is the first smartphone to challenge the reign of Xiaomi phones, the budget leader in India. The company is headed by Madhav Sheth in India who has recently tweeted that Realme devices will soon see a price hike.
The Realme 1 is a beautifully designed smartphone that is built with performance in mind. After the success of the former, the company has launched multiple other smartphones. List of the smartphones includes the Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro and the new budget champion Realme C1. The smartphones have seen a warm welcome by the Indian consumers. But, soon they will get a tad bit more expensive due to the decline of the Indian Rupee.
Reason For The Price Hike
The rupee rates are falling and as a brand we actually work on low margins. It indicates that we might have to upgrade the pricing, just to make sure that we continue to give you the best technology in our upcoming offerings. We are trying to figure out a solution post Diwali.?
A tweet by the CEO of Realme India explains that the company operates on very low-profit margins. And, the fall in the Rupee’s value directly affects the pricing of their smartphones. It has forced them to revise the prices which will see a hike post-Diwali.
Previously, Xiaomi had to increase the price of their very popular model, the Note 5 Pro by Rs 1,000 due to the same reason. It was initially launched at a price of Rs 14,000 but the company had to later revise the price to Rs 15,000. The fall in the Rupee’s value will surely affect the pricing of a lot of other smartphones and gadgets as well.
However, the official has posted another tweet stating that the devices will be available at the current prices for two more days. Those of you planning to buy any of the Realme smartphones, now is probably the best time to get your hands on one.
Earlier this week, a listing had given us an idea about the existence of a OnePLus 6T Thunder Purplevariant. The listing now seems legit as official press images of the same have now been leaked. The OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple sure does look great. It also hints at the fact that OnePlus may have some more variants of their latest flagship in store for us.
This trend was started way back with the OnePlus 5T. The 5T saw a limited edition variant launching sometime after the smartphone itself was launched. The OnePlus 6 also carried forward this trend by releasing two new colours, Silk White and Red, followed by an Avengers Limited Edition device. Keeping this in mind, it is safe to say that we might see the launch of many other colours and maybe even limited editions of the OnePlus 6T.
Last month, a listing on a German website had given us a glance at an ‘Ultimate Edition’ OnePlus 6T. But it was taken down soon after. The listing detailed just a 100 pieces of this truly limited device. However, OnePlus is yet to make a comment on any new editions of the OnePlus 6T which we might see in the future.

Samsung launched the five camera Galaxy A9 smartphone in Europe and Indonesia last month. Now the smartphone is listed on Samsung India’s official website which shows us that the launch is close. The rear of the devices houses the 12.2 MP camera with the dual-LED flash and the fingerprint sensor. The rear camera can shoot 2160p videos @ 30fps and 720p videos at super slow 240fps. Talking about the front camera, the phones have dual 8 MP cameras, one being a PDAF sensor and a second, ultra-wide sensor. The front cameras can also record 1080p videos @ 30fps.
The Pixel 3 & Pixel 3 XL are IP 68 rated which makes them dust and water resistant up to 1.5 meters for 30 mins. They have an always-on screen which displays date/time and unread notifications. The smartphones have a Type-C USB port for charging and data transfer. Sadly, the 3.5 mm audio jack is absent from both phones but Google offers a 3.5mm to Type-C adapter within the box.
The Pixel 3 & Pixel 3 XL have a distinct active edge feature which allows the user to squeeze the bezels to activate Google assistant or trigger other user set options.

The launch of a smartphone with a folding display was imminent, but this isn’t the one we were expecting. While the Samsung Galaxy ‘F’ or even the folding smartphone from LG and Huawei were on the table, Chinese manufacturer Rouyu has beaten them to the finish line. The Rouyu Flexpai has a 7.8 inch HD display and runs on the Snapdragon 8150 SoC. The Snapdragon 8150 (or the Snapdragon 855) is yet to be announced. It will be the next flagship processor from Qualcomm, based on the 7nm manufacturing process.
Specifications
These unique features make it the not only the first smartphone to have a folding display but also the first to run on the next generation processor from Qualcomm. The folding display is just 7.6 mm thick, according to the company. However, they haven’t specified as to whether this is an LCD or an OLED panel. The FlexiPai runs on the Snapdragon 8150, as mentioned before and has 6 GB and 8 GB RAM variants. The smartphone is available in 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB storage options.
The smartphone has a dual, 16 MP + 20 MP rear camera setup, which consists of a wide-angle and a telephoto lens, respectively. The company did not mention anything about the battery capacity of the smartphone but did announce that it would support ‘Ro-Charge’, the company’s proprietary fast charging technology.
The company didn’t showcase the phone, just a few images and the key specifications. However, a popular leakster on twitter shared a hands-on demo with the device. This shows the folding mechanism of the smartphone. However, the design looks rough and the UI seems to struggle to keep up while folding the device. The smartphone shown in the video might just be a prototype or an earlier version, as we hope that the retail unit of the Rouyu Felxpai is much smoother.
The FlexPai costs CNY 8,999 for its 6 GB + 128 GB version, CNY 9,998 for its 8 GB + 256 GB variant and CNY 12,999 for its 8GB + 512GB version. When converted, the starting price of the device is approximately Rs 95,380, which is sure to leave a fold in your pocket!
