Xiaomi Mi A3 Android One Smartphone Official Images Leaked

Xiaomi first launched the Mi A1 smartphone back in the year 2017. The device was Android One certified, which meant it is guaranteed to receive major software updates for two years and security updates for at least three years. The company then followed up by launching its successors, the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite next year, which refined on its predecessor’s features. Now, images of another handset in the series, allegedly called the Mi A3 have surfaced online, which reveal a different design from what is generally attributed to the lineup.

The Xiaomi Mi A3 will be the more premium version out of the two Android One smartphone reported to be released by the company this year. Freshly leaked images of the smartphone reveal it will have a similar design to the company’s Mi CC9 and Mi CC9e smartphones; that was released earlier this month. The front of the device is dominated by a large display with minimal bezels on the side but a considerable chin on the bottom. To maximise the screen real estate, it has a waterdrop style notch on top of the display which houses the front-facing camera. As it is an Android One certified device, a stock like an interface is visible in at least one of the images of the display.

The right side of the Xiaomi Mi A3 has the volume rockers and the power button; while the left side remains empty save for the SIM card tray. The top of the smartphone has an Infrared (IR) blaster to make it work as a remote for certain electronic devices. It also surprisingly houses a 3.5mm headphone jack, which was omitted from its predecessor last year. Over at the back of the Mi A3, a vertical triple camera set up along with the LED flash is visible. The company logo, along with a different than usual Android One branding is placed on the bottom of the device.

Amazon Is Developing A Louder Echo Speaker, Also Working On Robots

Following the sensational success of Amazon Echo smart speaker with built in Alexa VA (virtual assitant), Apple launched its own iteration of a smart speaker which is called the HomePod. The latter runs Apple’s virtual assistant Siri which is also found on iPhones and Mac computers. While the Amazon Echo was originally intended as a companion device for asking quick questions, the HomePod was designed as device that could fill up large living spaces with powerful audio.Amazon Echo Speaker

With both companies also competing in the music streaming service category, the compact Echo speakers have fallen short in front of the stout HomePod which packs a punch sound output. In order to maintain a lead in the music streaming service, that Amazon currently has over Apple, the former plans to launch a beefier smart speaker claims a Bloomberg report.

According to the report the new Amazon Echo smart speaker is set to release by next year. In addition, the prototype that the company is currently testing features four or more number of internal tweeters. In comparison, Apple’s incorporates 7 tweeters which sort of form a beam of sound. In addition to the chunkier Echo speaker, the existing lineup is also set to receive minor updates this fall states the report.Apple HomePod Vs Amazon Echo With Alexa

Besides smart speakers, Amazon is also working on a ‘Alexa home robot’ that will follow the device owner around a house or a work space. Noteworthy, the Amazon branded robot stands about waist height and sports numerous cameras which will help it to easily navigate through different spaces.

Conclusively, it seems that Amazon is bidding big on the rapidly booming smart home and appliance industry. Also the existence of personal robot suggests that company is not holding back on any technological firepower. Although it is a bit exaggerating, Amazon branded robots could very well be cooking food for you except for just reading recipes aloud via Alexa.

  • Apple Is Working On A MacBook With Touchscreen Keyboard

Apple Is Working On A MacBook With Touchscreen Keyboard

Multi national tech companies including Apple and Google register a variety of promising developments in the form of patents each year. A large number of such patents do not turn in to real life consumer ready products. But, they do provide the valuable insight which can be used to determine in what direction a particular product or a company is headed towards. Apple MacBook With Dual Display

According to a freshly granted patent, the Cupertino based electronics giant, Apple is working on a MacBook with two displays. The patent exhibits a notebook computer without a physical keyboard and trackpad, rather it features a secondary touch screen which can be used to operate the machine. Even though there is hardly any information available about the device, this technologys holds the potential to open a new world of possibilities. A couple of benefits of that such a MacBook can bring to the table include:

    • Slimmer Device: The presence of a conventional keyboard restrains OEMs from reducing the thickness of a laptop beyond a certain point. On the other hand, a touch screen is much thinner and therefore Apple can take advantage of the technology to further reduce the thickness of future MacBook notebooks.
    • Longetivity: A mechanical keyboard on a MacBook or any other laptop has a tendency to fail over time if dust particles get accumulated in it. Inversely, such a scenario would not occur with a touch screen display due to absence of any openings or gaps. Nevertheless, a touchscreen is a much more sensitive component. Hence the users need to keep caution not to damage it with accessories like ornaments or a wrist watch.
    • Better Water Resistance: In case of an accident, the liquid can easily seep into the main body of the MacBook which can destroy essential component like a motherboard. Having no gaps in the keyboard would allow the device fair much better in case liquid spillage does happen.
    • Longer Battery Life: The free space that has been created due to the removal of a keyboard and trackpad can be utilised to equip the MacBook with a larger battery pack.
    • Much Versatile Selection Of Accesories and Controls: Due to the touchscreen display’s capability to continuously change the images that are currently being displayed, different applications can show only the necessary controls for that app. This will in turn boost productivity. Besides, existing accesories like the Apple Pencil can be used to add several other functionalities to a MacBook.

Even though the patent seems like a farfetched idea, it has a plausibility to turn into a real life device. As observed with the TouchBar on existing MacBooks, Apple has already prooved that such technology can be implemented. Furthermore, Chinese tech firm, Lenovo had previously showcased a notebook computer with dual displays which seemed quite usable. Noteworthy, touchscreens are much expensive than conventional keyboard and mouse, hence, this new addition can bump up the price of such a device significantly.

To sum it up, Apple has the technological prowess to fabricate such a MacBook. Given that it chooses this route for its future notebook computers, it would only be a matter of time and perseverance till all the complications are unraveled and this thing turns into reality.

Google Allows Its Employees To Listen To Voice Assistant Interaction With Users

Google has been accused of privacy related data breaches on many different occasions. According to a new report, the search giant has reportedly let some of its workers listen in on the intimate conversations between the user and its voice Assistant. The company in a statement has sought to defend the incident by claiming it to be for the users benefit. It is claimed to be a crucial aspect of delivering a better user experience overall.

    Google
    Google Home, Home Mini

Google, in a blog post, stated that it takes various steps to ensure the complete anonymity of the user during the process; and that it has protections in place to prevent false recognition of the wake word. A report from a Belgian public broadcaster had first revealed the fact that contractors are paid to transcribe audio clips by Google’s AI Assistant; the conversation recorded may hold sensitive and private information regarding the user’s name, address and other personal details. A month ago even Amazon’s Alexa was accused of withholding audio clips of juveniles via its Echo devices without there consent.

Usually, audio clips are only recorded by the previously menitoned AI assistants once the wake word is spoken. However, multiple reports have shown such devices being woken up by accident and then go on recording its surroundings. Google says it has employees review the recordings to help in improving the system on multiple different languages to prevent such accidents. The company says it is a critical part of the process to make its Google Assistant viable.

    Google

Furthermore, Google also stated that it has caught two of its reviewers who had violated its data security policies. It is reported that they had leaked confidential Dutch audio data. The company has promised its review on this mistake and is investigating thoroughly on the matter. Additionally, Google claims that only 0.2% of all audio clips are reviewed by its language experts; the snippets are also not associated with the users accounts and the reviewers are instructed to ignore transcribing background conversations. They are only allowed to transcribe snippets aimed exclusively at Google and its services.

It is a known fact by people that work at the AI fields that human elements are necessary for training and growth. However, issues arise when large corporations like Google and Amazon are not transparent about their operations that involves its users. The end result was for the betterment of the customers but it seems lost when shrouded by secrecy that is later uncovered. Users should note that their conversation might just be heard by someone somewhere in the world, and avoid being near AI assistants during private interactions.

Earlier this year, Foxconn was reported to start the production of Apple’s current generation of flagships in India. The renowned Taiwanese contract manufacturer has been working to produce the iPhone X and iPhone XS models in the country. Notably, another manufacturer named Wistron is already producing iPhone 7 for the southeastern nation. The Made in India smartphones will cause the prices to drop for the iPhone lineups in the subcontinent.

    Apple

Apple’s top end iPhones that are assembled in India will sell for a lower cost and are expected to arrive this August. According to the report, Apple is expanding local assembly in hopes to save on the high taxes; which is levied by the Government on imported fully built devices that are sold in the country. The company is also looking into collaboration with local sourcing firms to open its own retail stores within the Indian subcontinent.

    Apple

Apple is a popular brand in the premium market of the country with millions of loyal Indian fans. However, the market share still just accounts for 1% of the entire holdings. A shift of market share has been observed after the emergence of brands such as OnePlus. It is reported that Foxconn would start the production of iPhone X series of devices in Tamil Nadu, a south Indian State. Apple is already building the iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, and iPhone 7 models in India’s tech hub, Bengaluru. The American company’s local production of smartphones could provide a sizeable margin to the company on each unit; this in turn will help drive the prices lower.

Google Launches A New Social Networking App Called Shoelace

American technology giant Google has not found much luck in building a social network. While the company’s Orkut was quite popular when it launched in the year 2004; the subsequent release of Facebook led to the demise of the social networking website in 2014. The company gave the idea another try in 2011 by launching Google+. This time, the release was met with a great response, however, due to the lack of new features it also saw a sharp decline in its popularity. Google+ was officially dissolved in April this year and it looked like the company is done with building a social network in general. Contradicting most expectations, Google has announced Shoelace, a social networking app that lets people connect using different activities.

    Google Shoelace

As mentioned above, the latest social networking project by Google is called Shoelace. It is a result of the company’s Area 120 team which is known for designing experimental projects as the ambitious Game Builder launched a while ago. The newest creation by the team is a social networking application, that will be available for Android and iOS platforms. How it works is that the app connects the user with people having similar interests as them. They can subsequently take part in an activity together, like yoga or attending a concert together.

Unfortunately, Google Shoelace is invite-only, which means you need a special invite from an existing user to join. It is also only available in the New York City of the United States for now, and there is no word on the global rollout. However, the company has not had much luck with social networks, so we will have to wait and see how it pans out.

Apple To Introduce In Display TouchID In iPhones Starting Next Year

Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones in the month of September this year. These devices will be upgraded versions of the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max respectively. While the launch of the smartphones is highly anticipated; leaks regarding the handsets have revealed that they will be just an iterative update over their predecessor. The company is instead expected to make some major changes with the iPhones starting next year. Now, in a new report, noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Quo has revealed that at least one of the iPhones released next year may have an In Display TouchID. This suggests that the company may be planning on ditching the FaceID authentication feature soon.

    In Display TouchID

    Apple iPhone

As mentioned above, iPhones starting the year 2020 may sport an In Display TouchID; which is what Apple calls the fingerprint sensor in its smartphones. This would also result in a smaller front facing notch, which was introduced with the iPhone X in the year 2017. It means that the upcoming devices will see a significant increase in their screen to body ratio. However, the analyst also reveals that Apple may be planning to phase out the FaceID face authentication feature starting next year. It is expected to be fully removed from all the company’s smartphones until the year 2021. Unfortunately, it is not known if the upcoming in display TouchID will use an optical or an ultrasonic sensor for authentication.

While it is not certain, a fourth device, which will also have TouchID support may be exclusively launched in China alongside the 2020 series of iPhones. It is recommended to take these reports with a grain of salt, as it is unlikely that Apple will be giving up on FaceID after just 3 years of introducing it.

The company is now reportedly working on an entirely new concept; we have seen foldable smartphones and soon we might see a smartwatch that doubles as a phone and a tablet. According to the report, IBM patented a design titled, “Variable Display Size For an Electronic Display Device.” The images portray a smartwatch with a thick case that will house multiple layers of the secondary display folded behind the main screen. These stacked display can be extended to be positioned on the sides of the main display.
