Samsung Fixes Galaxy Fold And Is Ready For Launch

Foldable smartphones were all the buzz early this year with Samsung being at the centre alongside its highly anticipated Galaxy Fold. However, the smartphone that was expected to launch in April to the global audience had been inevitably delayed. The reason for this was the display issues faced by influencers which were sent pre-release units. Unfortunately, most of these units had fatal flaws that caused Samsung to take a step back. The Korean giant now claims that Galaxy Fold has been subjected to some changes and is finally ready for the world.

Huawei in a statement had held off from releasing its own Mate X foldable handset, fearing a similar reception as Samsung. The Galaxy Fold had ensured Samsung’s win in unveiling the first foldable smartphone but lost the quality in its product. All in all the device had proven to be rushed with its various screen related problems, the very aspect which was key. Ever since then Samsung has publicly announced that it has fixed issues that were plaguing its foldable devices screen. The tech giant further on, even claimed that the Galaxy Fold is even ready to be shipped to the international market.

The news was broken down by a senior company executive and Samsung is expected to bring an official announcement soon regarding the commercial availability. Notably, the company’s spokesperson’s have had a varying degree of replies to the initial debacle faced by the Galaxy Fold. The month of May had seen the company claim the device is ready, which was followed by a report that detailed how no progress was made. The latest announcement was made directly by Samsung’s Vice President and are likely to be more reliable than the ones in the past.

The Galaxy Fold is confirmed to launch soon by the company, although exact details have yet to be discerned. Speculations have popped up that even point at launch right before the upcoming flagship, the Galaxy Note 10. Since the initial release was planned for the US in April, it may see a similar trend in the coming weeks. Information will be available once updates are given out by the company.

  • Huawei Patents Another Foldable Phone, Could Be Second Gen Mate X

Huawei Patents Another Foldable Phone, Could Be Second Gen Mate X

In the month of February, the Chinese electronics giant, Huawei unveiled the revolutionary Mate X which is the company’s first foldable smartphone. Earlier this month, Huawei released a statement declaring that the commercial availability of the innovative device has been delayed to September which was previously set for June. A freshly granted patent to the Huawei suggests that the company might already be working on the Mate X successor that has an updated design.

Huawei filed the patent for the said device with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) in July 2018 which was granted on the 18th of June, 2019. Unlike the original Mate X, the Huawei device in the patent has dual displays. Also, its main display folds inside which is disparate to its predecessor. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold, it has a smaller cover screen which can be used as the primary display. On the other hand, when the user wants to consume content on a large screen, they can unfold the inner display.

The right side of the Huawei smartphone from the current patent houses a button that seems to be the power button. Notably, the button is quite narrow, therefore, unlike the original handset, it might not have a fingerprint scanner built into the power button. Instead, it might have an in-dispaly fingerprint scanner which is slowly becoming the global standard for premium smartphones. Also disparate to Mate X, the camera module on the device from the patent is placed on the front.

As of now, it is unclear whether this is a successor to the Mate X or an entirely different smartphone. Subsequently, in order to get more details about the patent, we will have to wait until Huawei speaks out about the device publically.

    Apple Downsizing Production In China

Tensions between the US and China regarding trade have had implications on a global scale. The trade ‘War’ has already claimed victims with Huawei, that is facing various restrictions on its business practice within America. Western corporations have been wary of collaborating with Huawei since the ban, fearing allegations and federal lawsuits. A fresh report reveals that Apple is currently seeking to shift a part of its production away from China. This arrives after China’s warning issued towards the US and certain internal issues faced by the company.

Apple, like Huawei, is one of the companies that are vulnerable to the crossfire between the two nations. Due to the uneven ground between Washington and Beijing, the company is looking to shift a part of its entire production from the southeastern nation. The smartphone manufacturer has been planning diversification to other countries for a while now, citing issues from “high labour costs and risk of overly centralizing its production.”

The countries being considered for such a large scale relocation to include India, Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Apple is currently leaning towards India and Vietnam in particular. Furthermore, older iPhones are already being produced in India which will help ease the transition since 90% of the Apple products currently available are still made in China. The company will move between 15-30% of all production, “with or without the final round of $300 billion tariffs.”Apple

Apple has seen global success owing to China as its main base of operations. However, the political strifes, unstable trade, and issues within the eastern countries demographics are pushing the company to reallocate the manufacturing process entirely. This event will turn out to be an extremely expensive move for the company, requiring an estimated 3 years as well. Notably, this will only seek to benefit the company in the long run and hopefully bring the economic price to developing countries.

    Motorola One Vision

The Motorola One Vision, as mentioned above, is the latest mid-range smartphone from the company. It measures 160.1 x 71.2 x 8.7 mm and weighs 180g. The device features a glass sandwich design on the front and back with a metal chassis for reinforcement. It has a 6.3 inch LTPS IPS display with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 px. The handset is one of the few to sport a 21:9 aspect ratio, like the Sony Xperia 1.

To maximise the screen real estate on the One Vision, it has a punch hole cutout on the top left corner of the display, which houses the front-facing camera. For biometric security and rapidly unlocking the device, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is present and it also supports face unlock. The smartphone runs on the latest Android 9 Pie and is Android One certified; which means it will receive two major software updates and security updates for three years. The handset has also been rated IP52 for water and dust resistance.

Under the hood, the Motorola One Vision is kitted with Samsung’s 10nm Exynos 9610 SoC. The chipset is comprised of an octa-core CPU and the Mali G72 MP3 GPU. In terms of optics, the smartphone has a dual camera setup on the back; which consists of an f/1.7 aperture equipped 48MP primary sensor combined with a 5MP depth sensor.

The primary camera uses the ubiquitous Sony IMX586 48 MP sensor, also seen in devices like the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Asus 6Z. For selfies, an f/2.0 aperture equipped 25MP camera is housed in the punch hole cutout on the top left of the display. The camera supports video recording of 4K resolution at 30fps and has features like Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for stable video output.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10’s Display Will Double Up As A Speaker

Samsung Galaxy Note 10’s Display Will Double Up As A Speaker

Samsung’s latest Note series flagship is right around the corner with other big releases like the upcoming Apple iPhone 2019 and Google’s Pixel 4 line up. The Korean company will have to pull out an amazing feature or function with the new device to make it stand a cut above the rest. Amidst the various rumours, new reports by a renowned leakster reveal a new ‘Sound on Display’ technology for the Galaxy Note 10.

Ice Universe, the source, leaked Samsung’s new proprietary feature on Twitter. This implied that the tech giant is letting go of the earpiece systems that have been used so far for a new feature to facilitate calls. Within the tweet, a couple of images were shared as well. These images showcased screen protectors that showcased negligible bezels on the Galaxy Note 10 save a punch hole camera cut out.

    Galaxy Note 10

Sound on Display is a feature that will have vibrations travel through the screen and to the user’s ears when they receive a call. In practice, the feature on the Galaxy Note 10 will function similar to any other handset. According to the aforementioned images, both the Pro and non-Pro will incorporate the new technology. Notably, Samsung is not the first manufacturer to bring this function to mainstream markets, Huawei and LG have previously equipped their flagships with the same. In fact, the company has already tried it once on its own M series lineup. The Samsung Galaxy M40 received mixed reception for the substitute tech over an earpiece with concerns regarding quality.

Reports have even claimed that the Galaxy Note 10 may also feature traditional speakers alongside the Sound on Display feature. However, no concrete evidence has been uncovered and a simple screen protector does not always paint a true picture. Furthermore, it is still highly likely as Samsung has already included the feature in mid-range smartphones and the upcoming Note 10 will probably seek to innovate where possible.

Vivo Showcases World’s Fastest 120W Charging Technology For Smartphones

With the constantly increasing battery sizes in smartphones, the subsequent demand for a quick charging technology has increased. As a result, many major OEMs have incorporated some sort of fast charging in their devices. One such company is Chinese handset maker Vivo, which has announced with a post on Chinese social networking website Weibo; that it has successfully developed the world’s fastest 120W charging technology for smartphones.

    Vivo 120W Charging

    Vivo

Vivo announced its 120W fast charging technology via a poster shared on Weibo. The company claims that it will allow charging a 4000mAh battery from 0 to 100 in around 13 minutes. For the battery to hit fifty percent capacity, the company claims it takes a 5-minute charge. This is faster than the 100W charging technology Xiaomi showcased a while ago; which allowed for a battery of same capacity to be fully charged in 17 minutes. Vivo has given its proprietary technology a name of FlashCharge 120W. The technology is expected to be showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai; which is scheduled to take place from June 26 to June 28 at the Shangai New International Expo Center. The post by Vivo also insinuates that the company may also be planning to showcase its first 5G smartphone at the event.

The company may have to wait until later this year or early next year to launch a commercial device with the charging technology. It is also not known what Vivo has done to keep the heating that is akin to fast charging tech, at bay in its FlashCharge 120W technology. Unfortunately, details about it are not known at the moment but are expected to be revealed as we move closer to the event scheduled for next week.

  • Nube Gaming Smartphone With Extendable Gamepad

Nube Gaming Smartphone With Extendable Gamepad

Handheld gaming machines have been in the entertainment industries for almost 40 years now. These type of devices have always been a hit or miss with the audiences centred around gaming. Sony is a great example of this with the successful PlayStation Portable aka PSP and the subsequent failure of the PlayStation Vita. However, with the mobile gaming market being the largest revenue generator for the industry, it was inevitable that hybrid technology would be born soon. Nube Mobile is currently developing one such gaming device.

    Nube

    Specifications & Design

The company which is largely unheard of had patented designs last year regarding an extendable smartphone. These extended forms now include buttons such as controller D-pads and even joysticks, and may even feature special cooling functions. Nube Mobiles is based in Hong Kong and also works off of Spain in Malaga. According to the company’s own website, development is underway regarding two products. “One is a new smartphone for new players” while the other is a “new game based on one of the most popular films of the moment.”

    Nube

The product in question is probably the hybrid device which at a glance would resemble a regular handset with bezels at the top and bottom. In addition to this, the key feature manifests itself once the corners bezels are pulled out from the device. Once fully extended gamepad buttons will flank the screen from the left and right sides. This, in turn, makes the smartphone look like a Nintendo Switch since the button layout is entirely similar. The Nube Gaming Mobile would although likely sport a larger and higher resolution display than the 6.2-inch HD screen found on the Switch.

Nube’s hybrid device has its buttons slightly encaved within the smartphone, just enough to slide in behind the screen. This makes it a practical smartphone and handheld gaming system simultaneously. Optional gamepad for smartphone do exist in the market, but no other company has it in-built within their handsets. Apart from the gaming peripherals, the essential front sensors are provided on the top like any other smartphone. The left side houses the volume rockers while the right has the power button along with two SIM card slots. The charging port is found at the bottom of the device alongside the apparently lone speaker on the left.

Nube Mobile’s upcoming smartphone only has a single camera at the back with a flash. Notably, the camera modules will move when the controls are extended due to their placement. Unfortunately, internal specifications cannot be discerned but going by the trend, a high refresh rate with a powerful processor is expected. The device will also probably be powered by a large battery pack. The website claims that Nube Mobile’s have 5 years of video game industry experience and that the new products will be introduced soon.

Popular game studios for the aforementioned platforms are now taking the mobile market more seriously. This is evident with Activision bringing the Call Of Duty experience to smartphones. Official launch dates or any information was not provided by the company, but according to the website, the announcement would’ve been made in April. More updates are expected soon since the month has long since passed.

    OnePlus

OnePlus has already given its approval for most of the feature requests which are currently being tested in various open and closed beta programs. For example, the horizon light feature lights up the edges of the OnePlus 7 Pro when a notification is received. This was done by the company to address customer grievances regarding the lack of LED notification lights. Unfortunately, the feature will not appear on the standard OnePlus 7 model or its predecessors.

    OnePlus 6T

The developers in OnePlus have also seemingly confirmed working on video recording via the ultra-wide camera found on the latest flagship. • Samsung Patents A Gaming Laptop With Expandable Display

Samsung Patents A Gaming Laptop With Expandable Display

Earlier this year, the Korean electronics manufacturer, Samsung launched its first smartphone with a foldable display in the form of Galaxy Fold. Freshly granted patent to Samsung states that the company is working on yet another distinctive device which is a gaming laptop with an extendable display.

    Patent Disclosures

Samsung Laptop Extendable DisplaySamsung filed the patent for the aforementioned gaming laptop with KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office) on December 2018 which was published on the 3rd of June 2019. The patent includes 14 sketches which showcase the different elements of the unique notebook computer. The standout feature of the laptop is apparently the display which expands to transform into an ultra wide screen.

Although the patent does not mention, the Samsung laptop’s display seems to have a conventional 16:9 aspect ratio which when expanded or rolled out converts into a display with 21:9 aspect ratio. This expansion of display provides an additional 50 percent screen real estate which can be crucial for gamers. Noteworthy, most FPS (first person shooter) games can benefit from this wide of a display as it provides a wider FOV (field of view) which in turn gives the user a competitive advantage. Samsung Gaming Laptop

The patent, however, does not reveal how Samsung intends the laptop to achieve this functionality due to lack of illustrations of the inner mechanism. Though, it seems that would incorporate technology similar to what a previously patented Samsung smartphone uses. Or rather it could also use technology similar to LG’s previously showcased rollable TVs with a flexible display.

OPPO To Launch Under Display Camera Smartphone on 26th June

Mobile World Congress 2019 is the largest mobile industry expo in the world which was held in Spain on Feb 2019. The Chinese market being one of the larger markets with its own set of exclusive devices from various company receives its very own MWC at Shanghai which is scheduled for 26th to 28th June. OPPO one of the well-known smartphone manufacturers has confirmed its attendance at the Mobile World Congress 2019 on Weibo. A poster shared by the company clearly indicates that it is planning to launch the first under-display camera in the world.

    OPPO

Under-display camera smartphones essentially have its front camera within the front display but unlike a punch-hole module cannot be seen. The screen entirely encompasses the front panel with the camera under it. Earlier this month, Oppo had showcased its first functional prototype to the world, as did Xiaomi. Most OEMs have adopted a pop-up camera (like OnePlus 7 Pro) or rotating camera modules (such as Samsung Galaxy A80) for the full display solution. These are currently almost exclusively found in top-end or high mid-end range smartphones.

    OPPO

A short clip was previously shared by an OPPO executive which showcased a smartphone with the praiseworthy feature. It is uncertain if the aforementioned device is a prototype that is under development or an initial version of a smartphone that would be available commercially. The device had no visible seam for a front camera and had a full display panel at the front. This has probably given the world its first look into completely bezel-less smartphones.

Motorola One Pro is claimed to feature a 6.2-inch screen that is probably an FHD+ display panel. The dimensions of the handset are 158.7 x 75 x 8.8mm, 9.8mm when thickness of the camera bump is accounted for.

According to the renders, Motorola One Pro has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C charging port which will likely support some form of fast charging. The volume rockers and power button are placed at the right of the screen, and the left is devoid of any seams. SIM tray is set on the top of the smartphone’s frame. The front of the device features a waterdrop-notch while the back has a rectangular module housing the four camera sensors.

Exact specifications and capabilities of the camera are still unknown, but apart from the previously reported 48MP primary shooter, a wide angle and telephoto lens would probably make an appearance. The camera bump also has the Motorola branding with the company’s signature batwing logo. For security, it seems as though an in-display scanner might be planned as well. Additionally, in the new Motorola One Pro renders, three more colour variants are also seen.

The smartphone manufacturer has yet to announce a date for the Motorola One Pro but it is highly likely that word will be given out soon. So far nothing has been teased or announced, but the lack of a top grade flagship this year might see this device taking the Moto Z4’s spot for top honours. Furthermore, updates will be available in soon in due time.
