Intel May Introduce 9th Gen Core CPUs For High End Laptops Soon

The Game Developer’s Conference held in San Francisco saw some interesting revelations being made, with Google unveiling its upcoming cloud gaming platform and Oculus’ new VR headset, the Rift S. The American multinational corporation, Intel also announced its 9th generation of CPUs for high-performance laptops.

    About The New Lineup

Named “Coffee Lake”, the new lineup will primarily be targeted towards gaming and digital content creation. The new processors will enable users to play games and stream at high framerates and resolution without affecting the performance. Also, the 9th Gen Core CPUs will support Gigabit-class Wi-Fi 6 and Intel Optane Memory for improving communication latency and solving storage issues. The Intel Optane chip was launched in the year 2017 and is as fast as conventional RAMs while being inexpensive at the same time. It unifies the RAM chip and storage chip into a single module.

  • WhatsApp Business Now Rolling Out To iOS Devices

WhatsApp Business Now Rolling Out To iOS Devices

WhatsApp business is an application aimed towards integrating various businesses with the WhatsApp platform in order to facilitate transactions between users and the respective company. Many Indian businesses like redBus and MakeMyTrip have already become an integral part of the platform. It was previously launched for just Android in the month of January 2018. Now, an iOS version of the same has been launched by the company.

    About WhatsApp Business

As per sources, the first instance of the app was seen on the Mexican App Store. Shortly thereafter, the app was also spotted in France, Brazil and Panama. As mentioned before, the app provides direct connectivity between clients and businesses. WhatsApp business offers companies the option to create a tailored profile which can exhibit information regarding the business, like store hours, website link and a short “info” section that helps the user know more about the company.

Companies can even program some quick replies that will automatically be sent to customers when they message the business via the application. A greeting message can be created for clients to give the impression that the service is actively performing. Moreover, companies will be able to categorize their “WhatsApp customers” and label them as per their agenda. Also, the statistics option lets the business keep a check on how many messages it is receiving and how many sent messages have been read.

Businesses can use the service for free if they aim to reply to every customer in a 24-hour time frame. However, a fee is charged for a longer time period. It is very peculiar to see that WhatsApp took its fair share of time for bringing such an application to the Apple App store since this is one of the very few sources of revenue for the company. Global availability for the application hasn’t been achieved yet, although just like Android, WhatsApp Business will be available worldwide soon enough.

  • Battlefield V Firestorm Aims Towards Taking Over The Battle Royale Genre

Battlefield V Firestorm Aims Towards Taking Over The Battle Royale Genre

In a never-ending clash of being the best battle royale game in the world, major game developers are entering the arena with their own Battle Royale versions of popular games. Call of Duty introduced the survival game mode to their franchise with Blackout in October 2018, and now there is another contender on the line. Battlefield V is adding Firestorm mode to the game which introduces some insane Battle Royale elements to the game.

    Firestorm Features

While Battlefield may be late to the Battle Royale party, it sure did so in style. The trailer showcases all the necessary characteristics of a Battle Royale Game, and so much more. For starters, the game mode sports a map which is almost 10 times bigger than the BFV (Battlefield V) multiplayer map, Hamana. And Hamana as a map is very huge. The map is just one part of the whole experience.

Throughout the massive map, players will be able to contest objectives such as resupply points and upon successfully doing so, they will be rewarded with special safes that will contain upgraded equipment. Another intriguing feature added to the game includes the ability to use a pistol when a player is knocked down. Using the pistol, the downed player can defend himself/herself against approaching enemies and can even kill them off if they are low on health points.

Paying attention to the fact that the map takes forever to traverse, the developers have included a total of 17 different vehicles in the game, some of which are, let’s just say, “unconventional”. Players can find prototype helicopters with inbuilt miniguns, Schwimmwagens (which can function on the ground as well as in the water) and the bright coloured tractor which captured a lot of attention, and for the right reasons. Players can explore rare vehicle lockups to discover tanks on the battlefield, which are nearly unstoppable except for the fact that players can use anti-tank weaponry to tear them down

Battle Royale is a hot genre right now, as mentioned before, so it will not be very difficult to turn attention towards this game. Battlefield already has a loyal player base, and those players will be more than eager to play the Firestorm game mode and show off their skills. As of now, it is not confirmed whether the game is free-to-play or not, but it will face some serious competition from games like PUBG, Fortnite and the recently released Apex Legends (which is also published by EA). Microsoft is giving away a free copy of the game with the purchase of the Xbox One Console. The game will be available on March 25.

  • Xiaomi Mi A3, Mi A3 Lite To Have In-Display Fingerprint Scanners

Xiaomi Mi A3, Mi A3 Lite To Have In-Display Fingerprint Scanners

Xiaomi launched the Mi A2 Android One smartphone last year. The smartphones under the initiative by Google run clean, stock UI with promised software updates for at least two years. While the company also launched the Mi A2 Lite alongside the device, it made its way into the Indian market as the MIUI running Redmi 6 Pro. Xiaomi will most likely launch the successor of the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite this year. Fresh reports claim the new smartphones, presumably, the Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite will have an in-display fingerprint sensor.

    The Findings

A report claimed that Xiaomi is testing the hardware of three devices. The first two smartphones discovered are codenamed “bamboo_sprout” and “cosmos_sprout“. All the Google Play certified devices under the Android One program usually carry the “sprout” suffix which leads to believe the Android One certification of the said handsets. Another smartphone, codenamed “pyxis” has been reported to be arriving with the aforementioned smartphones. This is reported to be the Chinese variant of the Mi A3 Lite. Notably, Xiaomi has released an MIUI enabled version of its Android One smartphones for the Chinese market. The first one was the Mi 5X, which was the Chinese variant of the Mi A1. Likewise, the Mi A2 was launched in the country as the Mi 6X.

All three smartphones, namely the Mi A3, Mi A3 Lite and the Mi 7X are being reportedly tested with “fod” which is a vendor term for an in-display fingerprint scanner. This leads the speculation that the aforementioned devices will have this feature. As the handsets are supposed to be affordable, the sensor will most likely be optical as an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner like in the Samsung Galaxy S10 require an upscale OLED display.

    Specifications

    Xiaomi Mi A2

While specifications of the Mi A3 and the Mi A3 Lite aren’t known yet, they are expected to feature a similar design language to the current Xiaomi and Redmi lineup. A glass sandwich design is expected like the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro. There may be a waterdrop notch on the front surrounded by minimal bezels on all sides. Under the hood, the Mi A3 may run on the 11nm Snapdragon 675 like the Redmi Note 7 Pro or the newly announced Snapdragon 712 SoC. The Mi A3 Lite may have the 14nm Snapdragon 660 chipset like the Redmi Note 7.

In terms of optics, the Mi A3, A3 Lite and the Mi 7X are all expected to have a 32MP selfie camera. This is the same size of sensor found in the Vivo V15 Pro but Xiaomi’s solution will reportedly use pixel binning to combine four pixels into one to create an effective 8MP resolution for images. Unfortunately, there is no information regarding the rear cameras but the smartphones may feature a dual camera setup. The Mi A3 and the 7X are expected to have a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor at the back like the Redmi Note 7 Pro

Top Tech Gadgets & Accessories For The Month Of March

Every month we scavenge the internet to compile a list of top tech gadgets that can make your life a tad bit easier. Like every other Top Tech article, the products in this listicle are highly utilitarian which can come in handy for readers of all age groups.

    Rugged Speaker

The rugged multi-function speaker is a perfect companion for the people who are always on the go. It has several gadgets that are consolidated in a portable unit which is easy to carry. It has a 4000 mAh rechargeable battery that powers the LED torch and the dual Bluetooth speakers. In addition to Bluetooth, it can also play songs via auxiliary input and a microSD card. It can also be used as a power bank to charge other devices and is waterproof.

    Portable Fan

The summers are approaching fast which will be accompanied by scorching heat and temperatures upwards of 35-degree Celsius. The portable fan has a 2600 mAh inbuilt battery which can provide a run time of up to 9 hours. It has five-speed options which can be toggled by pressing the power button present on its front. The main fan body connects to the cylindrical battery unit with the help of USB Type-A connector which is standard on most power banks. Therefore it can also be powered by other power banks. It has a circular docking station which stores and charges the unit when not in use.

    Fingerprint Secured Padlock

With the introduction of fingerprint sensors on smartphones, biometric authentication has started gaining popularity even to other devices. This small fingerprint secured padlock has a robust feel as it is mainly made of metal. It has a side mounted micro-USB charging port which can be used to recharge its inbuilt battery. The user can record up to 10 fingers on the device which is plenty. It is easy to set up with fast fingerprint recognition.

    TP-Link USB Hub

In an effort to shrink the size of a modern laptop, OEMs tend to kit them only with a limited number of input-output ports. Out of all the I/O ports on a computer, the USB port is undoubtedly the most versatile one. The compact TP-Link USB hub allows the user to connect upto 4 different peripherals in just one USB port. Laptop users who travel frequently would surely understand the need for one such gadget. Coming from a brand like TP Link, it has a robust build and a well sought design which is small enough to fit in a pocket.

    Bluetooth Earphones

As smartphone OEMs tend to eliminate the 3.5 mm audio jack from their mobile offerings, the need for a pair of Bluetooth earphone becomes unavoidable. However, it is hard to choose an earphone which has worthy performance and can be acquired for cheap. The Chkokko wireless earphones appear to be replicas of high earphones. Nevertheless, under Rs 800 mark they are a reliable option that even offers features like magnetic backs of the earbuds.

    Sticky Phone Mount

Though 2 in 1 silicone mobile holder from Baseus has a tiny form factor, it is big in terms of functionality. As the name suggests, it has a sticky silicone surface whose one end can be stuck to a flat surface and the other end can be used to attach a mobile phone. However, it is not limited to one particular gadget as the silicone top has reliable sticking properties which can also hold several other accessories like keys. Notably, it has a washable surface which can be rinsed to restore its stickiness. It also has a groove in the centre which can be used to wrap and carry a charging cord.

    Anti-Theft Laptop Bag

Finding a good laptop bag can be hard and the ones that are offered as a freebie with the machine cannot satisfy the needs of every consumer. The anti-theft backpack has a number lock that can be used to secure its contents. The backpack has separate pockets and compartments which are purposely designed to accommodate gadgets like a tablet, headphones, laptop and many more. It has an easy to grab plastic handle that allows it to be carried even for extended periods of time.

    Multi Function Wireless Charging Mat

This gadget is essentially a mouse pad which has several other peripherals built into it. It has a built-in battery which is claimed to provide a playtime of up to 10 hours. It has dual speakers on either side which are quite loud and connected with the help of both Bluetooth and auxiliary cable. Praiseworthy, it also has a wireless charger which as the name suggests can be used to charge wireless charging compatible devices. It has a textured surface which prevents the mouse from sliding around involuntarily.

    Camera Desk Organiser

The desk organiser does not have any electronic components but is a static accessory which can be placed on tables and countertops. It has a sturdy build with a fascinating appearance and it can be used to hold several items ranging from pens to keys to even mobile phones. The organiser has a removable partition which can be easily removed to accommodate wide objects.

  • PUBG Mobile May Be Updated With A Play Time Restriction of 6 Hours in India

PUBG Mobile May Be Updated With A Play Time Restriction of 6 Hours in India

PUBG Mobile is insanely popular and infamous in India at the same time. The battle royale game has gathered the reputation of being one of the most addictive games of all time but at the same time, the strong addiction is proving to be harmful to a lot of students in the country. The game is affecting the performance of the students in an adverse way. Amidst a lot of controversies, the game has been banned in some cities of Gujarat. Now, probably as a step towards reversing that ban, reports say that the game may be updated with a time restriction soon.

    About The Update

    https://twitter.com/snjayraolendhar/status/1109021679127166977

This seems like a pretty straightforward move by the company to take up accountability for the fact that the game is a negative influence on some students. Players may be locked out of the game once they play the game for a time period that exceeds the limit. Users on Twitter reported that they are being locked out of the game after playing it for a time period of six hours of usage. The game also issues “health reminders” after two hours and four hours regarding the same.

This initiative may be a part of an OTA (Over-the-air) update that’s being pushed out to select PUBG players in the country. Noteworthy, the time restriction may have something in relation to the age of the user. The hostility regarding the game can be attributed to the fact that children and students are ignoring their surroundings for the sake of the game, which is leading to heart wretching cases across the country. Earlier in March, a couple of students were mauled to death by a train while they were engrossed in the game. Previously, a 25-year-old person accidentally drank acid instead of water while hooked to the game. All these incidents have forced the Government to take harsh actions regarding the game. In reports earlier, 10 students were arrested in Rajkot, Gujarat for the same.

The company has released a statement asserting that it is hoping to discuss its objectives with relevant authorities and remove the ban on the game in the affected cities. If this is the case, this step may just brighten up PUBG Mobile’s image a tad bit in the eyes of Indian parents and other concerned authorities. Note that no official statement regarding the “time based” restriction is released by the company yet. Screenshots of the update are being shared across Twitter by disgruntled users, which suggests that an update may be on its way.

  • Nokia Phones Accidentally Sent Sensitive User Data To China

Nokia Phones Accidentally Sent Sensitive User Data To China

As per reports, it was detected that multiple units of Nokia 7 Plus were inadvertently sending sensitive information to a server located in China. A lot of concerns were raised regarding the same. As per the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), data cannot be used beyond the limits of what users think is the appropriate limit, or else companies can face serious consequences.

    About The Data Packet

Reports state that sensitive data was being sent to a Chinese domain whenever the device was being switched on or being unlocked. The transferred data included the SIM card number, geographical location and the device’s serial number. Interestingly, the domain name of the Chinese server was vnet.cn, which refer to the China Internet Network Information Center, or CNNIC. The aforementioned domain is owned by the state-run Chinese Telecom operator.

When the data packet was inspected in detail, it was revealed that the information contains data from both the SIM card and the area it was associated with. This meant that the recipients of the data packet would have been able to geotag the real-time location of the device. Furthermore, sources say that they found a resembling piece of code on Github, which was developed by reputed electronics company, Qualcomm. It contained a registration procedure similar to what was executed in the Nokia 7 Plus. The code gathers data regarding the smartphone and transfers all the data in a similar format to the designated server.

The incident may have been caused due to an error in manufacturing smartphones. A code segment intended for the Chinese variants of the Nokia 7 Plus might have been installed in the Norweigan variants for the same. Shortly after this incident, HMD Global rolled out a firmware update that deleted the China-based application from Nokia smartphones. Finnish data regulators are now considering starting a full-scale investigation of the events that took place. Stating that the SIM card number and serial numbers are indeed personal information, the agency believes that this incident may be a direct violation of the GDPR legislation.

  • Netflix Starts Testing Rs. 250 Monthly Subscription Plan In India

Netflix Starts Testing Rs. 250 Monthly Subscription Plan In India

Netflix, ever since its venture into the video streaming business in 2007 has changed the way movies and TV shows are consumed. The company started its operations in the Indian market in the year 2016. To ascertain growth, it also started handing out free trials and even tried its hand in media production. Unfortunately, the monthly plans were still considered too expensive in the country which made the service inaccessible for most Indians. In the latest bid to change the aforementioned problem, Netflix has started testing out a monthly subscription plan worth Rs. 250 per month for mobile users.

    Netflix To Get More Affordable

The new Rs. 250 monthly subscription plan for Netflix will only be applicable for mobile consumers in the official app. Like the most affordable plan currently, it only can be used to stream on one mobile device at once. The plan allows streaming in Standard Definition (SD) quality, which generally refers to as streaming in 480p resolution. This more affordable subscription plan is aimed at making the streaming platform accessible to more users in India.

The current plans for Netflix in India start from Rs 500 per month for the base plan. This offers SD quality video on one device at a time; this device can be either a computer, TV or mobile device. The next plan is available for Rs. 650 which allows HD streaming and two devices support at the same time. The most premium subscription is the Rs 800 per month plan, which bumps up the resolution to Ultra HD and streaming on four devices simultaneously. With the new subscription, Netflix is targeting the ever increasing mobile customers in India.

Even with the new Rs 250 a month subscription plan, Netflix is still considerably more expensive than its competitors in India. For example, Amazon Prime Video is available at Rs. 129 per month or alternatively Rs. 999 per year. Hotstar, another video streaming platform is available starting Rs 199 per month. Both these services, despite having a significantly smaller media library is more affordable than Netflix. It is expected that the company will see a notable increase in subscriber count with the new plan.

Google will shut down its email service, Inbox on April 2. Originally aimed towards improving email productivity, the application will be taken down from the store. The shut down of Inbox will take place alongside the death of Google+, which is supposed to be terminated on the same day. The American technology company had previously listed its plans to part ways with Inbox in 2018.

    About The Application

First announced on a limited invitation-only basis in October 2014, the Inbox application was officially released to the public in May 2015. The app had some interesting features such as advanced filtering and message snoozing that appealed to a multitude of users. Moreover, the app was a fresh overhaul from the “cluttered” interface of the Gmail app, some users reported. For instance, the Inbox app gathered necessary information from the Gmail application and used it to provide just key bits of data to the user.

Inbox faced both welcoming reviews and criticism at the time of launch. Some users referred to the interface as minimalistic and clean, whereas some users complained that the app required them to give up control of their own ability to organize emails. The app also featured Google’s Smart Reply feature, which enabled users to click on pre-tailored replies to emails in their inbox. Furthermore, Google stated in March 2016 that 10 per cent of all the replies on the Inbox Mobile App was generated via Smart Reply.

Inbox users may see a notification while launching the application that displays a message from Google. The message says that the app will be going away in “X” days, where X is the number of days to April 2. The notification also informs users that all the helpful features of the Inbox app have been integrated with the Gmail app. Subsequently, for those who are trying to locate the application on the Play store, a lot of users are unable to find it too.

A new handset from Motorola under the initiative has leaked through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States. The smartphone has been listed as the model number XT 1970-1; which suggest it is the next device in the Moto One lineup. Reports claim it will be called Moto One Vision and will launch soon. It was previously leaked as the Moto P40 which is assumed to be its China specific name.

The Moto One Vision is rumoured to embody a new design language by Motorola. The renders of the smartphone were leaked previously which reveal it will have a glass sandwich design with a glossy back. The front of the device has a 6.2 inch IPS LCD display with minimal bezels on all sides, and a punch-hole cutout for the front camera on the top left side of the display. For biometrics and security, the Moto One Vision will have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, housed in the Motorola batwing logo.

Under the hood, the Moto One Vision has been leaked to run on the 11nm Exynos 9610 SoC by Samsung. Notably, this is the same chipset that is kitted inside the Galaxy A50 which was announced last month. The smartphone will be available in China with the 11nm Snapdragon 675 SoC. In terms of optics, the renders reveal it will have a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 48MP sensor with an f/1.75 aperture; and a secondary 5MP depth sensor. The leaked FCC listing reveals that the Moto One Vision will have a 3500mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. As mentioned earlier, the smartphone will be Android One certified; and will run on the latest Android 9 Pie. As far as connectivity is concerned, the Moto One Vision is confirmed to have Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual band and NFC support.

Facebook Fixes Glitch That Exposed Users’ Passwords To Employees

Facebook’s indiscretions regarding their users’ security policies have been quite frequent over the last few months, a fresh serious loophole has been detected in the social media platform. As per the sources, the American organization admitted to a bug that apparently exposed all user passwords to the employees of the company. And on top of that, all the passwords were stored in plaintext, not in an encoded manner. Reportedly, the passwords date back to 2012.

    About The Encryption

facebookOrganizations usually encode user passwords with a process called hashing, which includes the transformation of a string of characters into a usually shorter fixed-length value or key that represents the original string. Doing so encrypts the passwords and only allows access to those who have the encryption key/hashing key. In this case, Facebook failed to take the necessary steps for the same and ended up making a mistake that could’ve provided hackers with an unlocked playground.

    Effects Of The Bug

Facebook’s VP stated that the flaw was detected as a part of a routine security review in the month of January. He also stated that Facebook’s login technology employs a different strategy that doesn’t risk the exposure of sensitive data. Also, he mentioned that the company had found no evidence of the data being accessed improperly and that the passwords were never visible to any person outside the organization. After being brought to light, the company itself came forward with a statement that it will notify all the Facebook and Instagram users regarding the bug, and how it has fixed all instances of the same.

Previously in 2018, crackers stole a bunch of data files from almost 50 million users. This was done by accessing the account access tokens of users, which gave the attackers access to the account details. Consequently, this information was further processed, which led to the discovery of the aforementioned password exposing bug in the internal system.

Facebook cleared up things by saying that all the exposed passwords were stored in different places on the platform, indicating that they weren’t vulnerable to any one single form of attack. Also, the company stated that the passwords were not captured via login credentials, instead, a lot of internal mechanisms like crash logs had given birth to plaintext passwords. It is interesting to see how Facebook will keep up with the loopholes emerging in the systems since social media security is a huge concern these days.
