  • Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy S6 : How Far Has It Come

Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy S6 : How Far Has It Come

Last year, Samsung launched the tweaked Galaxy S5 in the February, and today, exactly after a year, the Korean electronics firm has added one more iteration to the S series listing. Samsung today official brought out two of its much-awaited flagships Galaxy S6 and the curvy fellow Galaxy S6 Edge, which look robust and classy at the same time.

The two bad boys pack a punch, and if we talk about the Galaxy S6, then it holds an all-new design language. The phone reminds us of the new iPhone in terms of fixed storage and packs many top-notch specs that were missing in the previous generation S5.

Let’s take a look at the two flagships and how the S6 has advanced over time:

    SPECS

From the comparison sheet above, it’s evident that Samsung has gone a step ahead and has upgraded all the segments. With LTE Cat 6 infused on the handset, transfer of data will be faster than before. The battery is the only factor that in which the previous version is superior.

  • Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Alpha: Which Smartphone is Better?

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Alpha: Which Smartphone is Better?

Samsung today launched the Galaxy Alpha in India. The design of the Alpha incorporates a metal frame that encases the phone. This design feature was carried on to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The phone comes with almost the same features as the Galaxy S5. So we test the specs of both devices to check out which one would be the better device to buy.

    Specs Galaxy S5 Galaxy Alpha
Display 5.1 inch Full HD (432 ppi) 4.7 inch 720p HD (312 ppi)
    Processor Exynos 5 Octa 5422 (Quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7) Exynos 5 Octa 5430 (1.8GHz quad-core Cortex A15 + 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex A7)

    Battery 2800 mAh 1860 mAh
Operating System Android Kitkat 4.4.2 Android Kitkat v4.4.4
    Price Rs. 35,489 Rs. 39.990

So overall the only major difference between the Galaxy S5 and the Alpha is the LTE capabilities of the Alpha. The Galaxy S5 starts at Rs. 35,489 on Flipkart and comes cheaper than the Alpha. If you are looking for good value for your money, we suggest you get the S5 itself considering the severe shortage of 4G connectivity in India.

Also the S5 gives you upto 128 GB of expandable storage whereas the Alpha lacks the feature. So if you were looking for a premier device, the S5 is still a valid purchase. The Galaxy Alpha sure gets style points, but that’s never good enough.

  • Features The iPhone 6 Needs To Take On The Galaxy S5

Features The iPhone 6 Needs To Take On The Galaxy S5

With the release dates of the iPhone 6 drawing closer, the rumor mills are warming up. Almost on a daily basis one can get a leaked specs and images for the new iPhone. From its screen sizes to heapdphone jack, all are under constant speculations from tech maniacs like us. So we decided to do a checklist to figure out what the iPhone 6 really needs to have to take on Samsung’s current flagship, the Galaxy S5.

    iphone-6-mockup1

    Display

In times when displays of 4.5 inch and above are fast becoming the norm for smartphones, iPhone’s 4 inch screen just doesn’t cut it anymore. Multimedia experience on the iPhone, though well appreciated seems restricted because of the screen size. There are talks of the next installment might arrive with two screen size options, one with a 4.7 inch display and the other touted to be named as iPhone air which will have a screen size of 5.5 inches. Currently the Samsung Galaxy S5 with its 5.1 inch super AMOLED full HD screen with 432 ppi is stunning to look at.

    Design

Metallic designs are a must. Most of the complaints regarding the S5 is its plasticky feel. The perforated polycarbonate back panel of the Galaxy S5 received mixed reviews. The apparent leaked images of the new iPhone do not impress a lot yet, but they might as well be mock ups. A Micro SD expandable memory slot will definitely make the iPhone 6 a must buy. Considering the iPhone 5 faithfully follows the same design principals of the iPhone 4, it is time for some serious makeovers.

    Battery

7mp_iphone6_render_backNow we don’t have a winner here currently. The current batteries, 1560 mAh on the iPhone and 2800 mAh on the S5 are known for their dismal performance. Considering the thinning down and increased screen size of the iPhone, battery will be a challenge. Introduction of battery saving features are also necessary. In the iOS 8 beta version, a new feature called Grayscale has appeared which seems like a battery saving feature, its efficiency though is still under consideration. A revolutionary thing that Apple can do is provide the option for removable batteries, but that’s just asking for too much.

    Camera

There aren’t a lot many people who will complain about the camera of the iPhone. Optical Image stabilization is necessary. Though most phones are offering 4K recording, its not advisable to have one on the iPhone with its limited storage scenario.

    Software

On the OS front, iPhone can have an easy battle considering the innovative features like handoff included in the iOS 8. The new messaging app and a turbo charged spotlight will give the iOS an edge over the Android OS. Though the Android L is not far behind and we might see some good competition in this arena but if the Kitkat situation is an indication, it will take some time to reach the Android phones.

    iphone61

Overall after a fantastic release of the iOS 8 and its pioneering inter-connectivity options with the OSX, the hype around iPhone’s next avatar has greatly increased. The competition is constantly updating itself and companies like LG, HTC and perhaps Motorola will pose some serious challenges to the iPhone. So the once in a year release of the iPhone this year has to be nothing short of spectacular, for its own future.

  • Right Time to Buy : Samsung Galaxy S5 Price drops to an all time low of Rs. 40600

Right Time to Buy : Samsung Galaxy S5 Price drops to an all time low of Rs. 40600

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was launched for a price of Rs. 52500 last month in India. The Phone however saw a major price drop and was selling at a price ranging from 47500-50000 in less than a week. The Galaxy S5 price has hit an all time low of Rs. 40600 available from online vendors and some retail stores. It is said that Samsung has seen a major drop in sales of their flagship when compared to last years launch and people seem to be inclined more towards Nexus devices, or flagships like the HTC One M8 or the new Xperia Z2.

Samsung also launched a Gold variant of the Galaxy S5  to lure the Indian buyers who were very excited to buy the golden iPhone 5s launched last year. The Galaxy S5 in India has two Quad Core processors (one chipset), one clocked at 1.9 GHz and the other at 1.3 GHz. Samsung claims that unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy S5 has both the quad cores running simultaneously thereby giving you the experience of a true octa processor. The lighter applications are handled by the 1.3 GHz Quad core whereas the more power intensive apps (HD games, HD video playback) are taken care of by the 1.9 GHz Quad Core processor. 2 GB RAM is what supports the processors in the Galaxy S5. The Phone is also the first to be weather sealed and offers water and dust resistance.

Most have not appreciated the minor design changes in the handset and the back panel has been critiqued heavily of being anywhere from ugly to resembling a Band-aid. Performance wise Samsung has shown major improvements in the handset and it is possibly the best phone from the company today even though it has only 2 GB RAM. If you were eyeing the Galaxy S5 the time to buy may be right now. Read our full Review of the Galaxy S5 here.

  • Samsung Sees Underwhelming Sales of the Galaxy S5 in India Drops Price to Rs. 50,500

Samsung Sees Underwhelming Sales of the Galaxy S5 in India Drops Price to Rs. 50,500

Update : The Price appears to have further dropped to Rs. 49,000 as of April 14th 2014, just 3 days post launch.

Yesterday Samsung launched the Galaxy S5 into the Indian market on retail sale for a price of Rs. 51500. After seeing more than disappointing sales, the execs at the Korean company’s India office have authorized distributers and dealers to offer discounts and deals to users.

One of the south Delhi distributors said that Samsung issued notices last night to their chain ; asking them to be a lot more aggressive in selling the Galaxy S5.

Samsung has usually seen excellent response from the Indian market for their smartphones, however this time around the company may have hit up on its worst nightmare.

According to people, the biggest reason for the general disappointment with the flagship device, is that Samsung has launched the Galaxy S5 with the Exynos chipset and not the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 in India.

Samsung has been following this policy in the Indian market since the time of the Galaxy S2, after initial sales of the dual core Galaxy S2 a special India edition was launched which actually had a single core processor vs the Dual Core offered in the Global variant at the time. The performance of the Galaxy S5 handsets on these separate chipsets differ in many ways. The Exynos based version also lacks several features including LTE but now includes 4k Video capture, which was missing from the Indian version of the Galaxy Note 3.

While the price has been fluctuating since last night, the Galaxy S5 is available from a price bracket of Rs. 50,000 – 51,000 depending on the mood of the seller. If you were considering buying this phone, we expect huge drops in price in the coming weeks so holding out may actually not be such a bad idea.

Do you think that Samsung should further reduce the price of the Galaxy S5? Or feel that they should launch the Snapdragon 801 variant ? Let us know below or tweet us @iGyaan and include @SamsungMobileIn ! We will ensure that Samsung gets the message.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is Packed With Many Features: Here is Everything You Want To Know

Samsung has officially unveiled  the Galaxy S5. As suggested by the trailer released sometime back, the Galaxy S5 brings in alot of new features. After the success of the Galaxy S4, Samsung is now ready to make more customers after selling more than 200 Million S devices.

Lets talk about whats new; When it is about Samsung, folks usually do not expect more, specially when it is about the looks. Keeping up to it the Galaxy S5 shares the same look as any other Galaxy device, however, with some enhancements. The Galaxy S5 has a leather like dotted back which is in any case better than the usual plastic on old devices. This new back design is not like what we have seen on the Note 3 and other recent devices, check out the image below:

    Galaxy S5

Moving further in, the Galaxy S5 is launched with some unexpected features as well. To start with, the Galaxy S5 is IP67 Dust and water Resistant, which means; it can be used in rain, while swimming etc, but keeping in mind it is not water proof. • Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Be Equipped With a Fingerprint Sensor

Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Be Equipped With a Fingerprint Sensor

Samsung’s flagship for this year, the Galaxy S5 is all set to launch on 24th February. However, following the tradition we have some leaks ahead of the official launch.

Sammobile has confirmed that Samsung will be using a fingerprint sensor on the home button of the Galaxy S5. If these reports are correct, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S5 with a fingerprint sensor on the home button which will work with a different technique. Probably different from what we have seen before.

In the report from Sammobile, the sensor on the Galaxy S5’s home button will work when users will swipe their finger from base to tip across the button, and access will not be granted if their hands are wet. Furthermore, their real-time fingerprint will appear on the screen as they swipe. The Galaxy S5 is said to keep 8 fingerprints, all to perform different actions like to launch an application.

We will have to wait and see what Samsung puts on the table during the launch at the Mobile World congress. We will bring you all the action from Barcelona.
