  • The OnePlus 2 Will Not Get The Android Nougat 7.0 Update

The OnePlus 2 Will Not Get The Android Nougat 7.0 Update

Oneplus has confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will not officially get the Android Nougat 7.0 update. This will leave a lot of bitter taste in the mouths of OnePlus 2 owners. The device which was supposed to get software updates for at least 24 months only received one incremental update before it was abandoned by the company.

OnePlus has reportedly confirmed that Android Nougat isn’t new, and the company is happy with what they are doing with software, so it won’t be pushing official Nougat update to the OnePlus 2.

“When we built the OnePlus 2 we didn’t have the software infrastructure team in place we do now.”  said OnePlus in an interview.

This is becoming a usual standard for most manufacturers who are constantly promising updates but are unable to deliver. OnePlus has, however, claimed that the company will ensure that both the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T do not fall under the same umbrella, ensuring updates to Android O builds when they release later this year.

For those who were impenitent lots of third part methods of getting the latest builds of Android are easily available, including installation of custom ROMs. And while it may not be the best and the most popular way, looks like owners of the OnePlus 2 will only be left with few options; ignore the lack of updates, install bootleg software, or shift phones.

OnePlus 2 Will Get VoLTE via a Software Update

Since the whole country is jumping on the VoLTE bandwagon, courtesy JIO, OnePlus has announced that it’s OnePlus 2 will get VoLTE support via a software update.

VoLTE support on our previous flagship device through an OTA update scheduled to roll out to all OnePlus 2 users in the next quarter. Meanwhile, all existing OnePlus users (including OnePlus One and OnePlus X users) using Jio services can use Jio4GVoice app (formerly known as JioJoin app) to experience enhanced call quality on the network.

The update is scheduled to hit your devices next quarter, which means it could take a few months for this to become a reality.

The OnePlus One and the OnePlus X will not become a part of this update according to the announcement.

  • OnePlus 2 Goes on Sale Without Invite Starting Tomorrow

OnePlus 2 Goes on Sale Without Invite Starting Tomorrow

OnePlus fans rejoice. The much-hated invite system will end starting tomorrow – for the OnePlus 2 smartphone. Yes, you will no longer need an invite to get your hands on the OnePlus 2, the company stated in its forum. The open sale begins on December 5 at midnight with both the OnePlus 2 and the OnePlus X up for grabs. However, the OnePlus X will get to enjoy this freedom until the 7th of December.

We know that the invite system was OnePlus’ way to control demand and supply. This strategy has been employed quite well initially. So much so that the company managed to sell around 30, 000 handsets of the OnePlus 2 in China within 64 seconds of the launch. The numbers for reservation slowly hit millions. Yet the company continued with the invite system even after supply overtook demand.

    OnePlus 2 10

The decision to rid the invite system for the OnePlus 2 comes at a time when demand for the device is seeing a fall. Certainly, OnePlus has an excess of stock at the moment, which is one of the reasons the company has been keeping a number of open sales lately as well as sending out invites repeatedly. Not only is it trying to push out its handsets, but it’s also trying to sell its accessories as well with heavy discounts.

In a blog post, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei also stated that the company will be giving discounts on accessories and covers. Owners of a OnePlus smartphone will get 90 percent off on all accessories for their devices.

    OnePlus 2 3

However, the decision to go invite-free doesn’t mean that it won’t suffer from stock shortage. If demand does pick up, it might just slow down the time it takes to get the phone into your hands. For example, the 16GB OnePlus 2 is currently out of stock and it’s not clear when it will return.

    oneplus_2_invite_free_official_02

“The invite system has been crucial to letting us scale our operations and has given our fans a unique way to share OnePlus with the people in their lives,” writes Pei. “But we are always trying to enhance the OnePlus experience for you and taking risks to push ourselves and show real improvements. That’s why we’re making the OnePlus 2 invite-free… forever.”

The OnePlus 2 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display and is powered by a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core SoC, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. On the camera front, the device features a 13MP rear and a 5MP front-facing camera. The device runs on Android-powered Oxygen OS 2.0. The device is currently priced at Rs. 24,999 (64GB). So, for those who have been eager to get their hands on the OnePlus 2, the wait ends tomorrow.

Additionally, if you’re in the market for the OnePlus X, you will be able to purchase it without an invite until December 7. The 16GB OnePlus X (Onyx) is currently priced at Rs. 16,999.

OnePlus Brings The Luxurious OnePlus 2 Wild Phone Case to India

  • OnePlus is Offering Refunds for Flawed USB Type-C Cable

OnePlus is Offering Refunds for Flawed USB Type-C Cable

OnePlus recently admitted that the USB Type-C cable for the OnePlus 2 does not conform to the USB Type-C 1.1 spec, and has agreed to give refunds. This admission comes after a Google engineer, Benson Leung, tested the OnePlus 2’s USB Type-C cable and concluded that it “may cause damage to your charger, hub or PC USB port” if used on a fast-charging device.

However, there’s a condition to the refund. Since the cable won’t cause any damage to the device itself, those who own the handset will not receive the refund or replacement cable. Instead, OnePlus will only refund those who purchased the cable separately. The company is of the opinion that the cable works fine for its intended purpose, that is to charge the OnePlus 2. However, someone who is unaware of the issue may just grab the cable and use it to charge some other handset or a laptop like Google’s Chromebook Pixel.

“If you’ve purchased these products to use with devices other than the OnePlus 2, we are going to offer an opportunity to apply for a refund on those products purchased through the OnePlus website. Please note that cables that were included in the box with your OnePlus 2 are not eligible for a refund, since they are safe to use with the OnePlus 2.”

    oneplus-2-usb-c-cable-2

The device could draw more power than the charger itself is able to support, since it has the wrong resistor for the USB Type-C 1.1 specification (10 k-ohms instead of 56 k-ohms). A good USB charger will cut off power without any damage, but a bad one could fry, or worse, catch on fire. Ideally, recalling all the faulty cables and replacing them would be the right thing to do, but those planning to keep them should “mark it with a tag so you don’t forget it’s special,” according to Leung.

Xiaomi Mi 4c Will Not Launch In India

Xiaomi unveiled its Mi 4c yesterday at Rs.13,500 and after studying its specs we soon realised that it was a whole lot like the OnePlus 2 and could be Xiaomi’s unofficial response to its competition. However, unlike most Chinese vendor smartphones that eventually get released in India a little later, Xiaomi’s India rep confirmed to iGyaan that this phone will not get released in India. Despite that, let us have a look at its features since it’s OnePlus’ new competitor.
