Samsung unpacked the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ at MWC 2018. Similarly, a new rugged Samsung has surfaced online. According to reports, this could be the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 5. Samsung is one of the major smartphone makers to launch rugged smartphones.
The Galaxy Xcover 5 will be the successor of the Galaxy Xcover 4, which was launched in March 2017. Unlike the Galaxy S8 Active, the Xcover 4 had mediocre specifications. Similarly, the Xcover 5 is expected to continue the trend. However, for the most part, these devices will be limited to the western/European market. In fact, the Galaxy Xcover 4 was released in Germany only.
Expected specifications of Galaxy Xcover [...]While the world awaits the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S9, a new Android device has already hit the thousand dollar mark. In 2017, the Samsung Galaxy Note8 came close and everyone expected the Galaxy S9+ to be priced equivalent or higher than the 64GB iPhone X. However, the Cat S61, a recently launched rugged Android smartphone is priced at US$ 999.
The Cat S61 succeeds the Cat S60, which was also an extremely rugged smartphone. The market for premium rugged smartphones is extremely niche. However, people with a certain lifestyle would certainly appreciate what the Cat S61 brings to the table. Cat is known for coming out with smartphones that fit this demographic and the Cat [...]
Smartphone makers, at large, are striving for sleeker phones. With wireless charging gaining more attention, it appears that a glass build will be more prominent in the coming months. Although an IP67 or IP68 rating has become more of a necessity in flagship devices nowadays, these phones are not meant rugged use by any means.
In comes Land Rover, a company known for making outdoorsy cars aimed at people who like the luxury. Land Rover has confirmed that it will soon launch a smartphone aimed at people who like outdoor life. The carmaker has teamed up with Bullitt Group, the same company that makes rugged CAT phones like the S60.
CAT phones are some of the most [...]
Samsung’s Galaxy S6 when launched earlier this year lacked a few features that people actually liked about the Galaxy S5. The S6 is not water resistant nor did it have a replaceable battery. Samsung had also left out a microSD card slot aiming for a more Apple-like approach towards storage.
The Galaxy S6 Active is a more rugged version of the Galaxy S6 from Samsung and it has been presently launched in the US exclusively for AT&T. The S6 Active is an IP-68 rated dustproof and water and shock resistant handset from Samsung.

While technology has come a long way, there are always restrictions when it comes to water resistant and dust proof designs. The Hitcase Pro for the iPhone 5 aims to achieve that with a design that does not stall the daily usability of the iPhone 5.
Build QualityThe Hitcase Pro is very well built, to say the least. The moment you go hands on with this case, you don’t feel like you have lost your iPhone in a big pit of protection. Designed keeping the Go Pro in mind, the case has a very strong railside [...]
@evleaks, known for its recent leaks, has dug up some images of the purported Samsung Galaxy S4 Active in teal. We’ve already seen this pop up in Red, plus it seems that there will also be a grey version.
Over the past number of weeks the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has arrived online in both picture and video format. This rugged device will most likely be announced at Samsung’s upcoming “Premier” event on June 20th. The device will attract people who work in the field, or those simply who are prone to dropping their precious Android.

Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Active is expected to launch by the end of this month, so it comes as no surprise that leaks for the phone are starting to become more prevalent. Several photos of the Galaxy S4 Active were spilled by GSMArena on Monday and we can see that, unlike the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S4 Active will launch in a bright red color and offers a slightly different industrial design.
The phone will be water-proof and dust-proof which makes it Samsung’s answer to the Sony Xperia Z. The pictures also confirm the GT-i9295 model number, which has been previously associated with the [...]
Samsung is readying a new variant of its Galaxy S4 for June, according to the Wall Street Journal. As reported earlier this week, the OEM is developing a rugged version of its flagship Android smartphone dubbed Galaxy S4 “Active,” which will look similar to the original but boast waterproofing and a sturdier chassis.
This is the first time that Samsung has ruggedized its most high-end smartphone, and is doing so to appeal to a relatively untapped market; as smartphones replace larger, more cumbersome pieces of technology, they become more essential to have with us at all times, [...]
