Dell has just revealed the world’s first 2-in-1 convertible 4K PC – the XPS 12. It has a 12.5 inch 4K InfinityEdge display and shifts between being a tablet and a laptop. It weighs 2.8 pounds and is powered by a sixth-generation Intel Core M processor with a clock speed of up to 2.7GHz. It also comes with Intel HD Graphics 515, 8GB of RAM and two storage variants of either a 128GB hard drive or 256GB of SSD storage.

In an attempt to shake off its PC-only image, Dell has entered into talks with EMC, the cloud commuting company, for a merger deal. It remains unknown at this point if it will be a partial or an entire merger. Reportedly, EMC has been exploring options based on the federation structure it has raised with partnerships in various vendors from the industry, which include names like VMWare, Red Hat, VCE, and Pivotal.

Founder and chief executive Michael Dell said a day after Dell Inc. shareholders approved his $25 billion buyout bid that taking the company private will help give it “long-term focus.”
Emphasizing the company’s main business was its enterprise business, Mr. Dell said the company was focused on “powering those clouds that are being fueled by this enormous explosion of mobile devices.”

Michael Dell clinched shareholder approval on Thursday for his $25-billion offer to buy and take Dell Inc. private, ending months of conflict with the company’s largest investors and removing the uncertainty surrounding the world’s No. 3 PC maker.
The results of a shareholder vote were just announced moments ago at a special meeting of shareholders in Round Rock, Texas. The final vote tallies haven’t been released yet, but CNBC, citing sources familiar with the result, have pegged the vote in favor at 65 percent to 35 percent. A final tally will be read out a little later, as the meeting is still under way.
Not many people are interested in full-on pre-configured desktop PCs anymore and so Dell is forced to look at other form factors in order to remain afloat.
