Puffin OS Is The Mobile Operating System That Can Crush Android Go

CloudMosa is an American company which is recognised for its web browser “Puffin”. In comparison to conventional browsers, Puffin browser’s strengths lie in speed and security. Acquiring these two elements from its web browser, CloudMosa has developed a mobile operating system which is called Puffin OS.

The new mobile OS is chiefly targeted towards handsets that cost US $ 100 or less. According to CloudMosa, Puffin OS bridges the gap that exists between feature phones that run on KaiOS and economical Android smartphones. The company collected data from a couple of independent research organisations and uncovered key limitations in existing sub-US $ 100 mobile phones which either run KaiOS or Android.

    • 33 percent of all mobile owners use a feature phone which has access to less than 500 applications. This drastically reduces the potential that a conventional smartphone can offer
    • 57 percent of device owners have access to a limited internet connection. Therefore, Android which is currently the most widespread mobile OS also presents a shortcoming. Due to limited internet, the user may not be able to download an application in the first place or existing applications require frequent updates to offer the latest and greatest of features.

CloudMosa designed Puffin OS in such a manner that it can overcome both the limitations mentioned above. The company claims that its mobile operating system can convert any existing website into a web app. Therefore, users instantly get access to over 1.5 billion applications including Facebook, Youtube and Google Maps.

The key benefit of this technology is that web apps can run directly on smartphones running on Puffin OS without having to download an application. Furthermore, the new mobile OS is free from any centralised regulatory body. Hence, developers can use open web standards like HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript to build mobile apps.

Noteworthy, Puffin OS is derived from Android but it uses a Technology called “Avatar” which shifts the workload from the local device to a remote computer in the cloud. To demonstrate its capabilities, CloudMosa has shared a benchmark comparing the performance of three mobile operating systems.

To sum it up, the claims made by the company look groundbreaking in comparison to existing options. However, in order to verify them, we will have to until a real-life device is actually demonstrated. Cheerfully, the company will soon be crowdfunding a smarpthone running Puffin OS on Kickstarter whose details are to be revealed soon.

  • Apple To Launch An Exclusive iPhone For China Without Face ID

Apple To Launch An Exclusive iPhone For China Without Face ID

In addition to the US, China has been one of the biggest markets for Apple’s iPhone. However, in the last couple of quarters, the demand for the premium smartphones have gone down in the south Asian country. The chief reason behind the slumping sales in the country is the trade tension between the two biggest nations, Apple and China. Additionally, local OEMs have also managed to captivate the segment by offering the sheer number of features on their devices.

To arrest the declining sales of iPhone in the country, Apple will reportedly launch an exclusive variant of the premium smartphone which will be limited to China. According to source, the China-only iPhone variant will be more affordable than the global variant which will allow it to better compete with the previously mentioned devices from local companies.

    iPhone Face ID
    Face ID

Apart from the lower price tag, the design of the Chinese variant and global variant of the 2019 iPhone will be identical. However, the key difference between the two variants lies beneath the surface. The former will do away with the Face ID feature, instead, it will have an under-display fingerprint sensor which has become a common sighting on the premium to mid-range Android phones.

All iPhone models that support Face ID must have an expensive component which is called structured light laser emitter. Accordingly, Apple might get rid of the Face ID components which will help the company to reduce the cost of the 2019 iPhone. This cost reduction strategy corresponds with the Chinese poll that questioned, “In Display Fingerprint Scannerwhich aspect can Apple optimize in iPhone”.

Over 2,00,000 netizens from the country participated in the polls and a whopping 70 percent of participants chose the “price” factor. This was followed by the battery which was selected by about 20 percent of all the participants. Therefore, it is evident that Chinese consumers want to purchase an iPhone but steep prices are hampering its sales.

Also, the comparatively higher adoption of the under-screen fingerprint sensor has significantly reduced its costs. Hence, Apple can use this mode of the biometric sensor instead of Face ID. Besides, all other features on the Chinese variant will be similar to the global variant which can be found here

In terms of memory and storage, it has 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128 GB UFS 2.1 ROM which is further expandable upto 512 GB. Noteworthy, the teaser boasts that the device also incorporates the ThinkPad Roll Cage. For users who do not know, ThinkPad is a lineup of business grade laptops manufactured by the company which are renowned for their durability and longevity.

All in all, the Lenovo Z6 is a feature loaded smartphone with an elegant design. If the company is able to maintain the aggressive pricing which has been observed with it the last couple of offers, it holds the potential to become one of the best selling devices in its segment.

Amidst fierce competition from other Chinese OEMs including, Xiaomi and Oppo, Lenovo has been on a recess in India. However, if the company brings aggressively priced devices like Z6 to the country, it will definitely see an upward trend in demand.

One such device is the ultra-compact Nokia Ion Mini prototype, which is currently listed for auction on eBay. The device has a distinctive design with plastic and aluminium build. Even when placed next to the iPhone 5S from 2014, the Nokia Ion Mini seems like a puny toy.

Even though the listing does not reveal the screen size of the Nokia Ion Mini, it does state the display has a wvga resolution of 480 x 800. Still, it can be assumed that the display on the device would approximately measure 3 inch.

Under the hood, the Nokia Ion Mini packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 which is clocked at 1.2 GHz. The listing states that the smartphone runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean which was unveiled in the year 2013. Connectivity options on the smartphone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G. Also, according to the listing, the device is carrier unlocked so users from around the globe can use it, in case they intend to do so.

As previously mentioned, the Nokia Ion Mini prototype with an appealing design is listed on eBay UK at a price of US $ 1,999. Though the price is very steep and it is much more than the device would have originally intended for. Taking into consideration it is a rare device, this is mfore of a collectors item than a device that the conventional user would use on a day to day basis. For reference, the futuristic Galaxy Fold which is expected to be made commercially available next month is priced for US$ 1980.

It won’t be fair to say that this charming and ultra pocketable Nokia Ion Mini could have taken down Samsung’s behemoth army of varied smartphones by itself. Though it could have generated its own following amongst consumers that intend to buy a compact handset.

Features And Design Of Apple iPhone XI Lineup Leaked In CAD Renders

Cupertino based electronics giant, Apple is expected to launch its latest smartphones in the month of September. The upcoming handsets will allegedly be called iPhone XI (11), iPhone XI Max (11 Max) and iPhone XIR (11R) which will succeed the iPhone trio (1,2) from 2018. The 2019 iPhones have been subjected to numerous leaks and rumours which have revealed both their design and key features.

A user on the SlashLeaks website has shared CAD (Computer Aided Design) renders of the iPhone XI, iPhone XI Max and the iPhone XIR which correspond with the past claims and have revealed the devices from all angles.

    2019 iPhone Design

The dimensions and layout of the front fascia of the all three 2019 iPhone models are exactly the same as their respective predecessors. Hence the high end iPhone XI will have a 6.5 inch display, the standard iPhone X will have a 5.8 inch display and the economical iPhone XR will have a 6.1 inch display.

Besides, the display technology on the three 2019 iPhones is also likely to remain the same. Therefore, the two flagship variants, the iPhone XI and iPhone XI Max will have an OLED touchscreen display, while the iPhone XIR will have an LCD panel.

The major distinction that can be observed on the future iPhone models is on the rear panel. In comparison to the 2018 iPhones, all three models will have a square camera module which protrudes slightly above the surface.

Furthermore, the upcoming iPhone models will have one additional camera sensor than their 2018 predecessors. Accordingly, the iPhone XI and iPhone XI Max will have triple cameras and the iPhone XIR will have dual cameras. The supplementary sensor is reported to be a ToF sensor which is used for collecting depth information.

To further strengthen the claim, Sony had previously admitted boosting the production of its 3D camera sensors which will be used on 2019 iPhones.

Other elements on the 2019 iPhone models including the ports and buttons will also be heterogeneous as their corresponding predecessors. Thus the power button on the iPhone XI, iPhone XI Max and iPhone XIR will be placed on the right and while the volume rockers and the mute switch will be placed on the right.

Disparate to 2018 iPhones, the 2019 iPhone models may get a USB Type C port. The claim can be strengthened on the basis that Apple has already equipped both the variants of the current gen iPad Pro with this type of connectors which are becoming a common sighting on electronic devices.

Although the current leak does not provide any specifications of the 2019 iPhone models, they can be derived from the leaks which were previously mentioned. The iPhone XI, iPhone XI Max and iPhone XIR will be kitted with the updated Apple’s in-house developed mobile chipset which according to the chronological order will be called A13 bionic chipset. The said chipset will be fabricated using 7 nm process and will be manufactured by TSMC which has already confirmed the chipset has hit the production stage.

Also new for 2019, Apple will reportedly bundle the iPhone models with an 18 W fast charger which is sold separately for the current gen devices. Distinctively, the affordable iPhone XI R was reported to be launched in two new colours which include Green and Lavender which will replace Coral and Blue from last year.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 5G Will Have A 3D Camera For Depth Sensing

Samsung Galaxy Note 5G Will Have A 3D Camera For Depth Sensing

Samsung is bracing for the launch of its latest smartphone lineup which will be called the Galaxy Note 10. The upcoming handset lineup will be revealed on the 7th of August at the Galaxy Unpacked event which is set to take place in New York. Unlike past iterations, the upcoming device will be available in four variants which will allegedly be called the Galaxy Note 10e, Galaxy Note 10+, Galaxy Note 10 5g and standard Galaxy Note 10.

A month before the official launch, a distinguishing camera feature of the high-end Galaxy Note 5G has been revealed by freshly granted trademark. The said trademark is filed with UK IPO (Intelectual Property Office) under the category 9 which associates with “camera for generating virtual 3D images“. This suggests that the Galaxy Note 5G will incorporate a ToF (Time Of Flight) camera sensor which was last seen on the Galaxy s10 5G.

For users who are unaware, A ToF camera uses infrared light (lasers invisible to human eyes) to determine depth information. The ToF sensor emits a light signal, which hits the subject and returns to the sensor. The time it takes to bounce back is then measured and provides depth mapping capabilities on any device incorporating them. This is somewhat similar to how a bat senses its surroundings with the help of ultrasonic sound.

The ToF sensors can capture up to 160fps (frames per second), therefore modern day smartphones that support live background blur feature, especially while capturing videos can largely benefit from this type of sensor.

Besides, another notable feature that the camera on the Galaxy Note 10 5G is reported to have is a variable aperture which was first seen with the Galaxy S10. However, the upcoming device will support three different stops, which is a step up from Galaxy S10 5G’s two f stops. The variable aperture on the Galaxy S10 supports f/1.5 and f/2.4, while the Note 10 5G will also support an additional f/1.8. The variable aperture settings can be used to capture high-quality images in underexposed or overexposed (too dark or too bright) lighting conditions. In a scenario with too less light, the aperture can be set to the lowest setting f/1.5 and vice versa.

Prior leaks (1,2) and assumptions suggest that the Galaxy Note 10 5G will have the following specifications:

    • Chipset: Snapdragon 855, Exynos 9820 (region dependent)
    • Display: 6.7 inch, Super AMOLED, Punch Hole
    • RAM: upto 12 GB
    • ROM: upto 1 TB
    • Camera: 12 MP + 12 MP + 16 MP + ToF 3D Camera
    • Battery: 4,500 mAh

Samsung’s first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold was announced in the month of February. However, due to some display issues encountered by early reviewers of the device, Samsung had to push the commercial availability of the innovative handset to a future date.

The claim of Galaxy Fold’s availability goes in line with the statement made by a senior Samsung executive. In the month of June, the aforementioned executive claimed that all the issues on the Galaxy Fold have been resolved and the device will soon hit the shelves.

Speaking of the Galaxy Fold’s availability in India, it is expected to be launched in the country only after the launch in major markets like the US which as previously mentioned is expected to happen by the end of this month. Therefore, Indian consumers who are waiting for the Galaxy Fold could expect to get their hands on one, sometime in the month of August.  Galaxy Fold Rear Screen

To recall, following are the features of the Galaxy Fold:
