  • PUBG Mobile Adds Rocket Launcher, New Zombie Mode In Latest Update

PUBG Mobile Adds Rocket Launcher, New Zombie Mode In Latest Update

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or PUBG Mobile, in the one year it has been available, has quickly grown to become one of the most popular smartphone games of all times. Tencent, the team behind the game, has added a host of new features in the latest beta update. The latest update carries the version 0.12.0 and adds features like new weapons, event and an all-new spectate functionality.

    What’s New?

The latest update of PUBG Mobile is available to download for selected users under the beta program. The biggest noticeable change is the addition of a new Zombie Mode. Available under the event section, the description of it says, ‘Collect supplies during the day and fend off zombies at night. Survive until the rescue arrives to win!’. The text suggests gameplay wherein players would need to exterminate or ward off the zombies for a selected time period until rescue arrives. Notably, this will be different from the existing Zombie mode wherein players need to eradicate the Zombies and also fight off other players to be the last one standing.

The update to PUBG Mobile also adds new weapons. The first weapon added is a Rocket Launcher and was highly anticipated by the players. Another weapon is an explosive crossbow, which would blow up when hitting the target. These two weapons are expected to be exclusive to the new Zombie Mode and will not be available in the normal game. A friendly spectate is also being added to the game. This would let a players friend spectate them while playing. It will also display the player’s information and the number of people watching. The crosshair colour, which is used to aim in the game, can now be changed.

A male voice for the quick chat feature is also being added to PUBG Mobile. This would exist separately with the voice currently available and will be given as an option. For the login screen, a new cosmetic change will be available. An eagle, termed as a companion, will be added to the character’s shoulder which would feature emotes. While not a big change, it will add an ornamental update to the existing game. Unfortunately, it is not known when the above features will be available in the stable update of the mobile game, but their addition to the beta mode insinuates that it may be added in the following weeks.

  • The Pixel 4 Concept Renders We Want Google To Breathe Life Into

The Pixel 4 Concept Renders We Want Google To Breathe Life Into

Late last year Google launched its latest Android smartphones, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL. Both the smartphones were highly honoured for their stock Android experience and camera prowess but not so much for their looks. A leak in the past claimed that the expected Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will feature a punch hole display like the freshly launched Galaxy S10 lineup. A Twitter user, @PhoneDesigner has created a bunch of Pixel 4 concept renders which look astonishing. Even though the artist has no association with Google, the following renders are highly impressive and we want the company to take note from them.

Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL

As previously mentioned the HD concept renders of the Pixel 4 and 4 XL exhibit an impressive smartphone duo. Both smartphones have a high screen to body ratio display which is surrounded with minimal bezels on all sides. The Pixel 4 XL has dual front-facing punch hole cameras while the Pixel 4 has a single front-facing punch hole camera. The right side of both the Pixel 4 smartphones from the concept render is occupied by the volume rocker and the mint coloured power button which the owners of current Pixel handsets have always fancied.

The rear side concept renders of the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL is reminiscent of the current Pixel lineup. However, it does not exhibit a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, which states an on display fingerprint sensor. The plausibility of this type of biometric unlocking mechanism on the upcoming smartphones is quite high, given most Android flagships from 2019 have this feature. Noteworthy, the Pixel 4 XL concept render reveals dual rear cameras. Pixel smartphones are recognised for their camera performance and a Pixel handset with dual rear cameras would only add up to its saga.

The Palm Sized Pixel 4 Mini We Desire

In addition to the Pixel 4 and 4 XL render, the Twitter user also shared some concept renders of a dainty palm-sized Pixel smartphone. Even though Google has never discussed that a Pixel smartphone this small is in the works, the company can surely take it into consideration. As the newly launched, Galaxy S10e that has a compact form factor is turning a lot of heads globally.

The palm-sized Pixel 4 has a similar layout as the standard Pixel 4 which means it has a single camera on both the front and the back except for a much smaller footprint. Admirably, the second colour option of the mini Pixel 4 in Red and Black colour simply looks breathtaking. Furthermore, the UI in this colour variant matches the exterior colours which again seems fantastic.

The possibility of such a small Pixel smartphone is considerably bleak. However, if Google does plan to launch a similar device this could turn out to be the latest norm of future smartphones.

What are your thoughts on these Pixel 4 renders? Do let us know in the comments below!

  • Vivo Apex 2019 : Hands On With The Port Less, Button Less Phone With A Full Display Fingerprint Sensor

Vivo Apex 2019 : Hands On With The Port Less, Button Less Phone With A Full Display Fingerprint Sensor

Every once in a while a radical design for a smartphone tries to break the norm. In doing so it forces the entire industry to follow in its footsteps. In the past few years, we have seen many smartphones attempt this. Curved screen devices, bendable phones, shatterproof phones, modular phones and now even foldable phones.

However, the last real change in the industry was back in the year 2007 when the first iPhone changed the perception of the industry and made the capacitive touchscreen a norm. Last year we saw a radical shift from notches to a full display front. Pop up cameras, slider mechanisms and even punch hole cameras in the front display.

This year we have already seen the foldable phone, in many forms. And while that as a category may take some time to catch up. Vivo has plans to make the Apex a reality.

The Vivo Apex is a unique phone, it has no ports, no notches, no speakers, and no buttons. To make things more interesting it does not even have a front facing camera.

The company has pushed the phone as a flagship prototype, just like last year’s Apex the Vivo Apex of 2019 will end up being a smartphone. When and under what branding we are unsure.

The entire display on the front of the phone is a fingerprint sensor. This is extremely handy when you are using the phone. The fact that you don’t need a particular point on the phone to work as a fingerprint sensor and that the entire display can be a fingerprint sensor is really useful.

The Vivo Apex has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. since the phone is missing ports, charging is done via a mag safe style connector that magnetically attaches to the back of the phone to charge and sync the device.

Buttons are replaced by pressure sensors that are located in three areas, one for the power button, and two for volume buttons. They are sensitive and provide haptic feedback, however, are finicky and you might hit them while the phone sits in your pocket.

The earpiece is replaced by a resonating glass module that uses the front display as a speaker. The same tech converts the back glass into a. loudspeaker. The company has managed to leave a small cutout under the display for the microphone though.

The Vivo Apex is a concept phone, a concept that might become a reality soon, a buttonless and port less phone is what a company like Apple would like. This reduces the chances of failure and also lowers repairability costs.

This may not be ideal for the user especially those who like physical interaction and feedback. The Apex is a usable concept, something that has the potential to be a future phone. At this time, however, we prefer clickable buttons.

  • Nubia Red Magic 3 Leaked To Support 30W Fast Charging

Nubia Red Magic 3 Leaked To Support 30W Fast Charging

Components including the camera, display and chipset for the most modern smartphones are supplied by a handful of suppliers. Therefore, it is hard to develop and manufacture a smartphone that stands out of the bunch. Razer, a recognised gaming peripheral brand tried to change that by launching a gaming-oriented smartphone, the Razer Phone in the year 2017. Following Razer, several OEMs have started to release their own versions of a gaming smartphone. The Chinese smartphone maker, Nubia is also set to launch the third iteration of its gaming handset soon. Allegedly called the Nubia Red Magic 3, specifications of the device have been previously revealed by a senior company executive. The upcoming handset has obtained the China Compulsory Certificate (3C) which reveals one of its notable features. The certificate conveys that the anticipated smartphone will support 30W fast charging.

    Nubia Red Magic 3 Specifications

Like most gaming smartphones, the Nubia Red Magic 3 is expected to feature a design that aesthetically appeals to gamers. It may be similar to the Red Magic Mars launched last year. A few days ago, a senior executive of the company revealed some features and specifications of the device. It is confirmed to be kitted with the 7nm Snapdragon 855 SoC. The chipset is the latest from Qualcomm and has an Octa-core CPU combined with Adreno 640 GPU. For memory, it will have 12GB of RAM, the highest available on smartphones currently.

To prevent the Nubia Red Magic 3 from overheating, it will reportedly have a combination of Air + Liquid cooling technology which will be the industry first. Notably, the smartphone is also expected to feature a display with an astoundingly high refresh rate. It may sport a 120Hz refresh rate display panel which was first seen in the Razer Phone. Another interesting addition will be a 4D vibration motor, which will provide haptic feedback while gaming. The Nubia Red Magic 3 is reported to be powered by a 5000mAh battery. As previously mentioned it will support 30w fast charging.

  • Redmi Partners With Marvel For Avengers: Endgame Movie

Redmi Partners With Marvel For Avengers: Endgame Movie

Xiaomi’s subsidiary Redmi separated from its parent company to exist independently as a brand back in the month of January. Redmi then launched two new smartphones, named Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro in the Indian and Chinese market. While the smartphones were received well with the users, the company didn’t do anything significantly different for the devices to stand out from the crowd. In a fresh announcement, Redmi has partnered up with Marvel Studios, a production house best known for their superhero movies, before the latter’s new release titled ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

    What Does The Partnership Mean?

Redmi’s official account posted an update a while ago on Chinese social networking website Weibo announcing the aforementioned partnership. Marvel Studios is all set to release its next movie, which is said to be one of the most highly anticipated releases of all time. Unfortunately, the companies didn’t reveal further details regarding the collaboration. But it is expected that Redmi may be planning to launch an Avengers special edition smartphone sometime near the movie’s release. While the movie will release in China on April 24, it will be available to watch for the rest of the world on April 26.

The partnership between Redmi and Marvel is not the first time a company has partnered with a production house before a major movie release. OnePlus last year also partnered with Marvel Studios and released a special Avengers edition OnePlus 6 smartphone. This was done to commemorate the production house’s major release that year titled ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

A partnership between Redmi and Marvel is a surprising move and expected to get a positive response from the fans of both companies.

  • Apple iPhone 11 with Triple Camera Leaked

Apple iPhone 11 with Triple Camera Leaked

Rumours have been around for a very long time stating that Apple’s next iteration of flagships, the iPhone 11 will feature a triple camera setup. With almost all smartphone brands living up to the triple camera or quad camera norms, the iPhone 11 is expected to be Apple’s first smartphone with more than two cameras. A freshly leaked schematic from the company showcased the triple rear camera module of the device, and it may be a shift from Apple’s conventional method of design.

    About The Leak

    https://twitter.com/OnLeaks/status/1111353645768028160

The leak clearly shows a welding pattern for the upcoming Apple smartphone, and upon closer looks, one can make up quite a few ideas about how the speculated iPhone 11 will look. While most of the details are rather obscure, one feature that stands out is the layout of the cameras in the top left corner of the design, where the schematic depicts three circular cutouts and two square cutouts. Consequently, it seems that the flagship’s camera module will sport three camera sensors, a flash and what looks to be a microphone for directional audio capturing. Apart from the primary camera, one of the other sensors can be an ultrawide sensor, whereas the third could be a telephoto lens.

Previously, images of the iPhone’s camera had leaked with a different sensor arrangement, which has been negated with the most recent leak. Even though some leaksters labelled the new design as the upgraded version of the iPhone XR, it is very unlikely that Apple will redesign the aforementioned device. The upcoming iPhone is expected to feature Apple’s latest chip and an improved battery upgrade. Moreover, the iPhone 11 is speculated to feature reverse wireless charging, which will allow users to wirelessly charge their accessories including AirPods and other wireless charging compatible devices.

When and where these devices will be launched is a mystery to everyone as of now. The iPhone 11 may make an appearance in the second half of 2019.

Very few technology trends remain stagnant over time, but one thing that has managed to stay consistent is the increasing price factor of almost all premium smartphones out there. It just fails to accept the fact that “Everything that begins, eventually has a limit”. Rather, smartphones get pricier by every generation and version. In fact, some smartphone brands charge users extra for “limited edition” variants. And in fact, it is essentially the same smartphone.

How Expensive Are The Latest Devices?

If we turn the clock two or three years back, a majority of customers used to rant about ridiculously expensive $800 smartphones. They would make fun of smartphone brands which ventured into a fairy-phone land where smartphones can be sold higher than the price of a high-end laptop. Market analysts loved ridiculing brands like Apple, which priced their devices at prices hitting $800 or $900. But times have changed, and so have the smartphone prices. Now, they’re hitting $2,600 (roughly INR 1,80,000), and consumers are not even batting their eyelids.

New 2018 iPhoneFrom one perspective, the customers are to be blamed for the same. We, as consumers, have allowed the bar to be raised to a point where a smartphone worth $1000 is the norm for a premium device. A lot of analysts and consumers still blame Apple for the steep prices of smartphones nowadays. But you have to give it to the company which broke the 4-digit price barrier and started selling the iPhone X at $1000. Furthermore, the device sold incredibly well in the market, indicating that customers are not at all cash-shy when it comes to premium mobiles.

Once Apple proved it’s market worth with the iPhone X, companies like Samsung and Huawei followed the trail and started unveiling smartphones which exceeded the previously mentioned price point. But why exactly are these devices becoming pricier day by day? And above all, why are consumers still buying expensive handsets?

Reasons Why Smartphone Prices Keep Rising

Most companies when prodded regarding the aforementioned issue have a similar statement, and that is the increasing cost of smartphone components. It’s not a false statement at all since better smartphones require better components to drive them. With handsets with quad camera setups hitting the market, it can only be expected that the company is using top-notch modules in the smartphone. On the top, components are becoming smaller than ever in order to accommodate them in considerably smaller, thinner and lighter smartphones, which eventually leads to newer devices becoming more expensive than their predecessors.

One reason is the global economy, which is pushing smartphone brands to charge more per smartphone so as to fulfil targets for profit. When a user buys a smartphone, he pays for the smartphone (including its components), the labour and energy required to design that product, and salary of all the employees who were involved in designing and marketing that product. Companies can’t help it, the global economy puts too much pressure on the same.

Another solid aspect which is trending right now is competitive pricing, which is the underlying reason for a lot of smartphone brands placing their new devices at high price points. Some companies such as Huawei and Samsung follow competitive pricing, whereas some brands follow an entirely different route: Aggressive pricing, which sells more smartphones but returns a lower net profit, which brings us to the next point.

Why Does Apple Own The Major Chunk Of The Market?

Apple, which is a pioneer when it comes to bring premium flagships to the market, has an interesting past. In 2016, Apple’s sales drastically fell, with the company making less money in a single quarter than in the previous year. Since Apple’s major chunk of revenue is generated from iPhones, Apple decided to follow a strategy that will spur it for years to come. The company decided to sell their future smartphones at a higher price than before, which surprised a lot of analysts and consumers alike. When the company released the iPhone X, the positive feedback that the device received was a clear indicator of the success of Apple’s formula, a formula that a lot of smartphone brands are implementing in their marketing.

If customers would have refused to buy high-priced devices, the market may have toppled in favour of the consumers themselves. Instead, smartphone companies have learnt that people who will buy the most ridiculously priced handsets in the market will always exist. And as long as such buyers support the brand, the company will keep innovating and introducing worthwhile features in future smartphones.

Setting devices at a high price point may lead to different scenario too, where more customers become aware of the increasing smartphone prices and shifting towards brands like OnePlus, Xiaomi and Huawei, which price their products very aggressively. However, brands like Apple and Samsung will keep selling expensive devices even if the number of consumers decreases because the price point keeps getting higher with each smartphone launch. Although, it’s quite imminent that after a certain point in the future, some smartphones may convert into a piece of luxury which will not be affordable by everyone.

Samsung Working On A Two Way Folding Smartphone Claims Patent

The year 2019 so far has seen a handful of unique and innovative foldable smartphones. Many manufacturers have already tried their hands on this technology with more expected to follow suit soon. Samsung, one of the biggest smartphone OEMs in the world, showed of it’s device supporting this technology. Called the Galaxy Fold, it was launched alongside the Galaxy S10 series last month. But, a fresh patent filed by the company reveals that it is also planning to launch a two-way folding smartphone, which is similar to the Xiaomi’s foldable device that has leaked multiple times.

    Samsung’s Two Way Foldable Smartphone

The patent reveals what Samsung may be planning for its next foldable smartphone. First filed in the year 2017, the document of the patent showcases different images of the said device. Upon first inspection, it looks very similar to the handset Xiaomi revealed in a video a while ago. But in contrast to the former, the concept has thinner bezels and offers a larger sized screen in a compact frame. The bigger display can individually be folded from the left and right side of the device and be made into a smaller form factor.

An unusual finding from the images present in Samsung’s patent is the lack of any physical or hardware features. There is no opening like a charging port or a 3.5mm headphone jack anywhere to be found on the smartphone. Also not visible are any camera sensors on any side of the device. All of this may be an indication that Samsung is not nearly ready to launch the handset, or it may be the case that the company has figured out a workaround of the aforementioned hardware features to make the screen to body ratio as high as possible.

Samsung is expected to launch the new foldable smartphone as early as next year. This will be an upgrade to the Galaxy Fold in terms of technology and may be priced as exorbitantly as the former. It is also speculated that with the next generation the company will try to bring the technology to a more accessible, mainstream market. The patent for Samsung’s next foldable device can be viewed here.
