vivo Z1Pro With Snapdragon 712 And Punch Hole Camera Launched In India
Chinese smartphone OEM, vivo has launched its latest smartphone in the Indian market, the Z1Pro. It is the first offering in the company’s new Z series of devices. The latest handset boasts of being the first from the company to feature an in-display selfie camera. Besides, it packs competitive specifications at a lucrative price tag.

The vivo Z1Pro has a polycarbonate build with an attractive gradient back panel. It features a 6.53 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080px, which is surrounded by minimal bezels on all sides except the bottom chin which is considerably thicker. To maximise the screen real estate, the handset utilises a punch hole cutout to house the front-facing selfie camera. For biometric security and quickly accessing the Z1Pro, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner is present; and the smartphone also supports face unlock.

Under the hood, the vivo Z1Pro runs on the 10nm Snapdragon 712 SoC. The chipset is comprised of an Octa-core CPU and the Adreno 616 GPU. In terms of optics, the smartphone features triple rear camera setup which is comprised of an f/1.8 aperture equipped 48MP primary sensor; combined with an f/2.2 aperture equipped 8MP ultra wide angle sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, an f/2.0 aperture equipped 32MP sensor is housed inside the punch hole cutout on the top left side of the display. The device is offered in three storage variants for which the prices are as follows:

In addition to the inbuilt storage, it also supports memory expansion upto 256 GB via the dedicated microSD card slot.

Another notable feature of the vivo Z1Pro is a massive 5000mAh battery which supports 18W fast wired charging. The device is offered in three colour which includes Sonic Blue, Sonic Black and Mirror Black. Connectivity options on the smartphone include 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, dual 4G VoLTE, and bottom mounted micro USB port plus 3.5 mm audio jack.

The vivo Z1Pro is an online exclusive smartphone and will go on sale on Flipkart.com from the 11th of July (12 PM).

Xiaomi Huami Amazfit Bip Lite Smartwatch Launched In India
In the month of July last year, Huami, a company backed by Xiaomi launched its two wearable devices in India which include the Amazfit Bip and Amazfit Stratos.

Two weeks ahead of the Amazon India prime day sale, the company has silently listed the Amazfit Bip Lite smartwatch on the e-commerce website. As the name suggests, the newly launched device is an affordable variant of the previously announced Amazfit Bip. However, don’t let the ‘Lite’ suffix mislead you to taking the Amazfit Bip Lite as a substandard product. Even though it has an economical price, it still packs loads of fitness-oriented features in addition to the conventional watch.

To navigate across various menus and features of the Huami Amazfit Bip Lite, the user can either use the touch button placed below the display or the right side mounted circular crown. The rear side of the fitness watch houses a heart rate monitor which can measure the user’s heart rate on the go.

Besides, the Amazfit Bip Lite also has a pedometer (step counter), sleep monitor and a sedentary reminder. The fitness watch prompts the user with a reminder when they have remained seated for an extended period of time.

The Amazfit Bip Lite is powered by a 190 mAh battery which is claimed to provide a battery backup of 45 days depending on the usage. The battery is charged via a proprietary connector and it takes about 2.5 to fully replenish it.

Talking about features, the Huami Amazfit Bip Lite has a built-in vibration motor which sends haptic feedback when the user receives a message or phone call. The fitness device is compatible with both iOS and Android, also the users can save data for later which can be transferred to an app on the smartphone. Other sensors on the device include a Barometer and GPS.

In addition to the Amazfit Bip Lite smartwatch, the box includes a charging cable and a user manual. The smartwatch is available in a black colour option and is priced at Rs 3,999. As previously mentioned it will be available for purchase with the Amazon Prime day which begins 15th of July.

HP Omen X 2S Gaming Laptop With Two Screens Launched In India
HP has introduced new entries in its range of gaming laptops. Omen laptops are known to sport top end hardware specifications for gaming purposes. The company has now unveiled the world’s first dual-screen gaming laptop, Omen X 2S, which will feature unique cooling mechanisms alongside the new OMEN 15 and Pavilion Gaming 15 laptops.

Dual screens laptops have started slowly gaining a more mainstream commercial audience. Computex 2019 was one of the major events where the technology had gained major coverage. The technology is not brand new, but for the first time is available to the gaming markets instead of first-look on prototypes. HP, in a press release, introduced the Omen X 2S that is going to be launched in India along with HP Omen 15 and Pavilion Gaming 15.

New Secondary Screen

The unique gaming laptop will receive various HP enhancements in the software to improve the overall gaming experience. HP Omen X2S will offer numerous multitasking capabilities to the user with its new secondary display. Most gamers out there would tend to listen to music, watch game streamers or even check messages every now and then. The new screen offers the same functionality without ever needing to reach for a smartphone of turning away from the system.

Players can text friends on chatting apps like WhatsApp, browse through the music of their choice from Spotify and even connect to Youtube and Twitch. This is made possible on the 6-inch 1080p secondary screen above the keyboard of the laptop. The smaller display has its interface run by the OMEN Command Centre software that enables simple controls of the new space. The second screen can also highlight certain aspects seen on the main screen such as the map in racing and shooter games.

Design & Cooling

Gaming laptops have historically been known to run with higher power requirements and temperature. Various OEMs have tackled this with their own proprietary cooling solutions. HP brings its own take to the issue with its new OMEN “Tempest”. HP’s Omen X 2S is the first laptop to feature an applied liquid metal compound for its thermal solutions. HP claims that the aforementioned technology will pave the way for smaller and cooler heat management systems.

The upcoming gaming laptop is built on a 20mm full-metal body chassis. Omen X 2S sees a 20% reduction in size over its predecessors with the new cooling method. In terms of aesthetics, the device sports a familiar design that has been seen in previous iterations. The unique hinge and angular designs are what people have come to expect from HP’s Omen lineup.

Internal Specifications

The upcoming gaming laptop, including the Omen 15, are available various configurations that potential buyers can opt for. Omen laptops can be equipped with the latest generation of 9th Gen Intel Core i9 octa-core processor. Graphical fidelity can be provided by the latest video cards from NVIDIA such as the RTX 2080 that feature the cooler and quieter Max-Q designs.

The amount of storage has yet to be detailed but upto 16GB of RAM will be provided by HP. Furthermore, since laptops are portable and more mobile than its desktop variants, the new Intel Wi-FI 6 is being provided as well. It is claimed to be 3 times faster in terms of file transfer speed over the older Wi-Fi 5.

Other Offerings

Two additional gaming laptops have also been announced for prospective buyers that don’t intend on spending too much. HP’s Omen 15 and Pavilion Gaming 15 will launch alongside the Omen X 2S. The later is a laptop designed on a thinner frame than its older variants but with improved specifications and performance. However, the gaming system will not receive similar top-notch hardware as the Omen X 2S. The laptop only receives upto the 9th Intel Core i7 CPU alongside NVIDIA’s GTX 1660 Ti with Max-Q design.

Price and Availability

The world’s first dual-screen gaming laptop “Omen X 2S” prices start from Rs. 2,09,990. HP OMEN 15 laptop will have buyers shell out Rs. 1,24,990 while the Pavilion Gaming 15 Laptop will go for Rs. 70, 990. An Omen gaming mouse is being sold on the side which is priced at Rs.1,799. HP is also offering the OMEN Outpost Mousepad which can charge the gaming mouse through the Qi wireless charging technology.

OMEN X 2S is expected to be available from July 1st via HP’s official website. The other two gaming laptops are currently available on the aforementioned website. These products from HP will seek to expand the company’s gaming horizons in the southeastern nation. India, although slow, is rising with the number of people with gaming-specific requirements. The Indian market holds great potential for any OEM and HP’s reception with the products shall be seen in the arriving weeks.

LG W10, W30 and W30 Pro Smartphones Launched In India

LG went on stage to unveil three new devices in its budget-mid range W series smartphones. The upcoming devices are a part of the company’s project under the Indian Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The South Korean company has officially launched the LG W10, W30 and W30 Pro.

LG W10

The budget handsets by LG were made to specifically cater to the Indian market. India has one of the largest smartphone userbases, causing OEMs to make devices for every possible price bracket. LG W10 is powered by a 4,000mAh battery along with a MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. Memory and Storage are only available in one configuration, 3GB/32GB. Furthermore, the front is equipped with a 6.19-inch HD+ FullVision display panel with 18.9:9 aspect ratio.

LG has invested heavily in marketing the cameras of the W series smartphone. The W10 features a “Smart” dual camera set up which will be placed vertically at the top left corner of the rear panel. The primary shooter is a 13MP sensor with PDAF while the secondary is a 5MP shooter for depth sensing. Front of the smartphone has a relatively large notch that houses the 8MP front camera. Features like face unlock and bokeh are also provided.

LG W30 & W30 Pro

LG is offering a slightly bumped version of the W10 in the form of the W30, that features various improvements. The processor of the W30 is similar to the W10 with a MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. Even the memory and storage are the same with a single 3GB + 32GB configuration. However, the screen of the device is slightly larger with a 6.26-inch HD+ IPS FullVision with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a tear-drop notch.

The camera of the device also receives an improvement with a 16MP front camera with face unlock functionality. Notably, on the rear, it sports a triple camera setup with a 12MP AF primary shooter that has a special low light mode. LG W30 receives an additional 13MP AF wide-angle lens along with a 2MP depth sensor for bokeh shots. LG W30 Pro has not been unveiled in the event although an announcement is expected soon. The company has teased its specs which point at a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, FullVision display with a tear-drop notch and stereo speakers (StereoPulse Sound)

Price and Availability

LG’s W series smartphones were developed and built in India, with plans to start shipping in the southeastern nation soon. The LG W10 carries a price tag of Rs.8,999 and will be available in two colours, Tulip Purple and Smokey Grey. On the other hand, LG W30 will have customers shell out Rs.9,999 for three colour options, Thunder Blue, Platinum Grey and Aurora Green. Announcement regarding the LG W30 Pro is expected soon with pricing that will most likely cross the INR 10k price bracket.

MediaTek Helio P65 Chipset Launched, Supports 21:9 Display

While the premium smartphone segment is dominated by chipsets from Qualcomm and Samsung, Taiwan based MediaTek with its affordable SoCs mainly targets the budget and mid range handset segment.

The company has unveiled a new chipset called the Helio P65 which features a handful of improvements over the Helio P60 and the Helio P70. The latest SoC consists of the Mali G52 GPU and 64 bit Octa Core CPU which is divided into two separate clusters.

The Octa Core CPU on the Helio P65 is comprised of 2x Cortex A75 cores which are clocked at 2 GHz and 6x Cortex A55 cores that have an unspecified clock speed. This combination of two CPU core groups with different architecture and clock frequency helps in providing the best of both worlds i.e battery life and performance on smartphones that employ the chip.

When the user is running resource hungry tasks like games on their device with the Helio P65 chipset, the two Cortex A75 cores come into play. Inversely, when the device is put to sleep or is being used to run lightweight tasks like making phone calls or messaging, the 6 core Cortex A55 will be put to the use which will help in prolonging the battery backup. Do note that this is not a proprietary technology as most chipsets in the modern era have this type of architecture.

Smartphones kitted with the Helio P65 chipset are capable of supporting upto 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM (fastest memory standard available as of now). However, unlike the Helio P70 which supports dual memory modules, the new chipset only supports a single RAM module, therefore, limiting the full potential highest capacity of supported memory.

In terms of memory, the Helio P65 only supports eMMC 5.1 (embedded multimedia card) storage and lacks support for faster UFS. However, most devices that feature chipsets from MediaTek’s affordable lineup would rarely incorporate this fast storage standard. Usually, flagship grade devices including OnePlus 7 Pro and Galaxy Fold use UFS which is considerably more expensive than eMMC.

Redmi Note 7 With 48 MP Camera

Xiaomi with its Redmi Note 7 Pro that features a 48 MP camera turned a lot of heads around the globe. However, in order for a smartphone to be able to process images of this high resolution, the chipset should be developed with this feature. Taking into consideration the demand for budget smartphones high res cameras, MediaTek has added support for such sensors in the new Helio P65.

Moto One Vision With 21:9 Display

Another notable feature that the Helio P65 brings to the table is support for 21:9 display. An aspect ratio which is slowly gaining popularity as seen with the Moto One Vision and Sony Xperia 1.

All in all, MediaTek has designed and developed the Helio P65 chipset after thoroughly researching the budget smartphone market while also studying the features that consumers like to see in such devices.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active And Galaxy Fit Bands Launched In India
In the month of February, Samsung held the Galaxy Unpacked event where it unveiled the Galaxy S10 lineup (1,2,3) of flagship smartphones. Besides, the company also unveiled a wide variety of accessories which include the Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Fit, Galaxy Fit e and the Galaxy Watch Active. The Galaxy Buds were made available in the country alongside the flagship smartphones, but the three previously mentioned smart wearables were not.

On the 25th of June, Samsung India sent out a press release where it officially announced the three fitness oriented smart wearable devices for the country. To recap the features and specs of the devices are as follows:

Samsung Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e

Both the Samsung Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e have a similar design but they have significantly different features. In terms of looks, both the devices have an appealing design with a tall display and thin silicon straps. Notably, the display on the feature laden Galaxy Fit is surrounded by metal casing while the affordable Galaxy Fit e gets plastic edges.

The difference in the choice of material also translates to disparate weight. The former weighs 23 grams with strap while the latter weighs just 15 grams with strap. The two devices also have different size and type of display. The Galaxy Fit has 0.95 inch colour AMOLED display with a pixel density of 282 ppi while the Galaxy Fit e incorporates a 0.74 inch PMOLED display that has a pixel density of 193 ppi.

The Galaxy Fit is powered by a 120 mAh battery whereas the Fit e is powered by a 70 mAh battery. Both the fitness bands from Samsung support Activity tracking, Sleep tracking and continuous HRM (Heart Rate Monitor). Noteworthy, the expensive out of the two, the Galaxy Fit supports additional features including Stress Tracking and Roaming Clock (Updates with the location of user, requires smartphone connectivity).

The two smart bands from Samsung are also 5ATM water resistant and Military Grade (MIL-STD-810G) certified. The Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e use Bluetooth for connection and are compatible with both Android (version 5.0 or greater having 1.5 GB of RAM) and iOS (iPhone 5 or above running iOS 9 ). In terms of sensors, both support HRM and accelerometer while the high end Galaxy Fit also gets a Gyroscope. The two devices will be available for purchase starting 1st of July via Flipkart.com and traditional brick and mortar stores. The price of the two devices are as follows:
- Galaxy Fit e: Rs 2,490
- Galaxy Fit: Rs 8,990
Galaxy Watch Active

The Galaxy Watch Active runs on Tizen based wearable OS 4.0 which can be navigated via gestures and the two side-mounted buttons. The smartwatch packs the Exynos 9110 SoC which consists of a dual-core processor. It has a 1.1 inch AMOLED display that has a resolution of 360×360 px.

The Galaxy Watch Active is capable of automatically recognizing and tracking the activity being performed by the user. Apart from that, it also has a continuous heart rate tracking feature which can provide users with real-time information regarding their cardiac health.

The Galaxy Watch Active has 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage. The smartwatch is IP68 water and dust resistant and is MIL-STD-810G certified. Connectivity options on the device include GPS, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0. As far as the sensors go, the Galaxy Watch Active has an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope and a pedometer. Furthermore, the smartwatch also has a sleep monitoring feature. The watch is powered by a 230 mAh battery which can be charged via WPC-based wireless charging (Wireless Power Consortium).

The Galaxy Watch Active is available for purchase starting today (25th on June) on Amazon.in, Samsung’s e shop and multi brand retail store brands.

Raspberry Pi 4 Launched With 4GB RAM, 4K Video Output

The Raspberry Pi foundation is a UK based charity that is known for making affordable personal computers (PC). Continuing the tradition, it has now launched the fourth iteration of its Raspberry Pi PC. The latest iteration is the successor to the Raspberry Pi 3B+ which was unveiled in the month of May last year. The latest generation of the computer, the Raspberry Pi 4 model B; carries on with the same form factor and adds on considerable improvements in specifications while keeping the identical price tag intact.

Raspberry Pi 4

The Raspberry Pi 4, as mentioned above, is the latest in the line of affordable PCs that were introduced back in the year 2012. The latest generation of the computer now arrives with up to 4GB of RAM. This is four times the amount of RAM than its predecessor. It also has a faster CPU and GPU; while the Raspberry Pi 3 uses a Quad-core CPU at 1.4GHz clock speeds, the newest model has the same amount of cores in a 1.5GHz Broadcom 2711, Cortex A72 Processor. The GPU has been upgraded to a 500MHz VideoCore VI from a 400MHz found in the previous generation. In a surprising move, the device now uses a USB Type C port for power, rather than a Micro USB found in the Raspberry Pi 3 which is a welcome change.

Other ports in the Raspberry Pi 4 include two Micro HDMI ports which are capable of powering two 4K monitors; at 30 fps or a single 4K monitor at 60fps alongside a 1080p display. Also present are two USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports; with a Gigabit Ethernet port and microSD storage card. Connectivity options on the device include support for Bluetooth 5.0, up from version 4.1 in the previous generation; and Dual-Band Wi-Fi 802.11ac. In terms of pricing and availability, the Raspberry Pi 4 will be available to purchase starting June 24 from certified online stores. It has been priced starting US$ 35 (Rs. 2,400) for the variant with 1GB RAM configuration; the 2GB RAM version has been priced at US$ 45 (Rs. 3,100) while the top end 4GB RAM Pi will cost US$ 55 (3,800).

Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e & Galaxy Tab A 10.1 Launched In India

Samsung has silently launched two new Android tablets in India, both of which cater to an entirely different audience. The two newly launched devices include the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 and the Galaxy Tab S5e, out of which, the former is targeted to the mid range segment while the latter is targeted to premium segment.

Galaxy Tab S5e Design and Features

The Galaxy Tab S5e has an attractive design with thin bezels around the display and a sleek side profile. The tablet measures 245 x 160 x 5.5 mm and tips the scale at 400 grams. It features a 10.5 inch Super AMOLED display that has a 16:10 aspect ratio. The display panel has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 px and a pixel density of 287 ppi. The bezel above the display houses an f/2.0 aperture equipped 8 MP selfie camera that has a pixel size of 1.12 ultra micron.

The right side of the Galaxy Tab S5e houses the SIM card slot, volume rockers, and the power button which doubles as a fingerprint scanner. The device has a total of four speakers, out of which two sit on top and two on the bottom. The rear of the tablet is occupied by a 13 MP camera, Samsung branding and AKG logo. AKG is an Austrian company that is famous for its headphones and microphones. The company is now owned by Samsung and the logo behind the Galaxy Tab S5e conveys that the device has an admirable audio output. The tablet can also capture 2160p videos at 30fps from the rear camera and 1080p videos at 30fps from the front shooter.

Galaxy Tab S5e is kitted with the Snapdragon 670 SoC which is comprised of Adreno 612 GPU and an Octa-Core CPU. In terms of connectivity, the tablet supports 4G VoLTE, 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and a bottom mounted USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing. The device is powered by a mammoth 7,040 mAh battery that also supports fast charging. It runs on Android 9.0 pie which is skinned with Samsung’s One UI. In terms of memory and storage, the tablet has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM. Besides, it also supports memory expansion up to 512 GB via a microSD card.

Similar to the Galaxy Tab S5e, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 also features a large screen display on the front and a metal unibody which provides an elegant look. Speaking of dimensions, the tablet measures 245 x 149 x 7.5 mm and weighs 470 g. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 a 10.1 inch LCD display that has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 px and a pixel density of 224 ppi.

For photography, it features a 5 MP front facing selfie camera and an 8 MP rear camera. Both the front and rear camera can also shoot 1080p videos @ 30fps. Connectivity options on the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, 3.5 mm audio jack and a bottom mounted USB Type C port. The tablet is powered by a large 6150 mAh battery which is claimed to provide a battery backup of 13 hours.

Under the hoods, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 packs the Exynos 7904 SoC which is also featured on the Samsung Galaxy M30 and Galaxy A30. The chipset consists of an Octa Core CPU and Mali G71 MP2 GPU. The tablet has 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of inbuilt storage which is further expandable upto 512 GB via a microSD card.

Huawei Unveils Kirin 810 SoC Based On 7 nm Process

On the 21st of June, Huawei held a launch event in China where it unveiled a variety of new devices including the Huawei Nova 5 smartphone lineup and the MediaPad M6 tablet duo. Another offering from Huawei that debuted at the event is the Kirin 810 SoC which was anticipated for a long time.

The Kirin 810 SoC is the company’s latest chipset which is manufactured using a 7 nm fabrication process. The only other chipset offered by the company that is made using 7 nm technology is the Kirin 980 which is found on flagship devices like the camera centric P30 Pro, Mate 20 Pro and Honor View 20.

The Kirin 810 consists of an Octa Core CPU along with the Mali G52 GPU. The eight core CPU setup is comprised of two different clusters which include 2x Cortex-A76 cores which are clocked at 2.27 GHz and 6x Cortex A55 cores which are clocked at 1.88 GHz. This combination of two different CPU architecture and clock speed clusters allow devices employing the chipset to provide the best of performance and battery life.

Huawei Nova 5 Pro

Noteworthy, the newly launched Kirin 810 SoC is based on DaVinci architecture which is developed in house by Huawei. This is a positive step in the direction of self-reliance. As the previously imposed trade ban on Huawei left the company stranded after architecture developer ‘Arm’ cut cords with it. Besides, the chipset has a powerful NPU (Neural Processing Unit) with HiAi 2.0 which aims at improving the performance of artificial intelligence technology.

The first smartphone featuring the chipset is the Huawei Nova 5 which was launched earlier today. Conclusively, it seems that Huawei is working rigorously to neutralise the negative impacts that the aforementioned US trade ban had caused. It seems that hurdles faced by the company are just temporary and it will overcome most of them sooner rather than later.

Huawei Launches MediaPad M6 Tablet Duo

Huawei alongside the release of the Nova 5 series of smartphones has also revealed to the world its latest iterations of tablets. The MediaPad M6 launched today in two different versions. One is an 8.4-inch display variant while the other arrives with a screen size of 10.8-inch. The only other notable difference between the two is battery size.

Specifications & Features

MediaPad M6 has a 2560x1600px LCD display panel equipped on both of the variants. Since the size of one is larger than the other room for a bigger battery also becomes available. The bigger of the two is powered by a 7,500mAh battery whereas the smaller one receives a 6,100mAh battery pack. The HiSillicon Kirin 980 SoC makes an appearance on both the 8.4 and 10.8 sized tablets along with 4GB of RAM. Internal storage is available in either 64GB or 128GB.

This is where most of the key differences end, as most of the internal specifications are almost identical. Both MediaPad M6 tablets sport an 8MP camera on the front and a 13MP camera sensor at the back. Additionally, Huawei has added an extra bonus with the inclusion of quad speakers from the audio brand Harman Kardon. This allows the tablet to provide an immersive experience while consuming audio and video content. EMUI 9.1 can be found running the devices based on Android 9.1.

Furthermore, users now receive an added function of physical keyboard support with the inclusion of pogo pins from Huawei. The tablets also feature a 3.5mm headphone jack alongside the USB Type-C charging ports.

Price and Availability

The MediaPad M6 10.8 inch is currently available for pre-orders and will be seen on shelves starting 10th of July. The base variant, with Wi-Fi only connectivity, of the tablet costs CNY 2,299 (approx. Rs. 23,200) for the 4/64GB configuration. The higher prices model that supports cellular network support along with 4 GB + 128 GB configuration is being sold for CNY 3,499 (approx. Rs.35,400).

The smaller MediaPad M6 tablet model of 8.4-inches will go for pre-order on the 7th of July. Official sales are to start on July 20. Pricing for the base variant is CNY 1,999 (approx. Rs. 20,200) that includes a 4/64GB Wi-Fi only model. The cellular version with 4/128GB is available for CNY 2,699 (approx. Rs. 27,300).

Huawei Launches The Nova 5 Series In China

Huawei is still going strong despite the heavy setbacks caused by the US trade ban. The Chinese company has now launched the latest offerings in the form of Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro. The former of the two is a mid-range smartphone while the other is a flagship-grade premium device.

Nova 5 & Nova 5 Pro

Both smartphones sport a 6.39 inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution alongside a 32MP camera sensor at the front. The rear shooter is a quad camera module with a 48MP, 16MP, 2MP and another 2MP cameras that will consist of a standard, wide-angle lens, depth of field, and macro sensors. Nova 5 is equipped with a 7nm Kirin 810 SoC processor with Mali-G52 GPU, while the high-end Nova 5 Pro will house the more powerful Kirin 980 SoC with Mail-G72 GPU. The chipset in the latter is currently also being utilized by other Huawei and Honor Devices including the P30 Pro, Mate 20 Pro and View 20.

The latest smartphones also feature an in-display fingerprint scanner, which has increasingly become an industry standard. Furthermore, the lower variant will not support NFC, unlike the Pro version. The aforementioned smartphones will be capable of 40W fast charging for its 3500mAh battery. Huawei Nova 5 will be available in a single memory configuration of 8GB RAM with 128 GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the higher specced Nova 5 Pro will have two storage variants with 8GB of RAM and an option of either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.

Special emphasis is being placed on the identical camera module of the mid-range and top-end devices. Huawei boasts of improved low-light photography with key regards on night portrait pictures.

The Nova 5 is priced at CNY 2,799 (approx. Rs.28,300 ) while the Nova 5 Pro has launched for CNY 2,999 (approx. Rs. 30,400) for the 128GB variant and CNY 3399 (approx. Rs. 34,400) for the 256GB. The smartphones are expected to be released for the global market in the following weeks.

Motorola One Vision With A Punch Hole Display Launched In India

Motorola on the 20th of June has launched its latest smartphone, the One Vision. It is the successor to the Motorola One Power launched last year and was unveiled last month globally. The device features mid-range specifications combined with a modern design.

Motorola One Vision

The Motorola One Vision, as mentioned above, is the latest mid-range smartphone from the company. It measures 160.1 x 71.2 x 8.7 mm and weighs 180g. The device features a glass sandwich design on the front and back with a metal chassis for reinforcement. It has a 6.3 inch LTPS IPS display with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 px. The handset is one of the few to sport a 21:9 aspect ratio, like the Sony Xperia 1.

To maximise the screen real estate on the One Vision, it has a punch hole cutout on the top left corner of the display, which houses the front-facing camera. For biometric security and rapidly unlocking the device, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is present and it also supports face unlock. The smartphone runs on the latest Android 9 Pie and is Android One certified; which means it will receive two major software updates and security updates for three years. The handset has also been rated IP52 for water and dust resistance.

Under the hood, the Motorola One Vision is kitted with Samsung’s 10nm Exynos 9610 SoC. The chipset is comprised of an octa-core CPU and the Mali G72 MP3 GPU. In terms of optics, the smartphone has a dual camera setup on the back; which consists of an f/1.7 aperture equipped 48MP primary sensor combined with a 5MP depth sensor.

The primary camera uses the ubiquitous Sony IMX586 48 MP sensor, also seen in devices like the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Asus 6Z. For selfies, an f/2.0 aperture equipped 25MP camera is housed in the punch hole cutout on the top left of the display. The camera supports video recording of 4K resolution at 30fps and has features like Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for stable video output.

For memory and storage, Motorola One Vision has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which also supports memory expansion via microSD cards of up to 512GB in capacity. It is powered by a non-removable 3500mAh battery with support for 15W TurboPower charging. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone supports Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, 4G LTE and Bluetooth 5.0. The device will be available in two colours, namely Bronze Gradient and Sapphire Gradient.

Asus 6Z Flagship Smartphone Launched In India
Taiwanese electronics giant Asus has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Asus 6Z in India. The device was first launched in Valencia Spain on the 16th of May. It succeeds the ZenFone 5Z which was announced last year and boasts of notable improvements in design, camera and the performance department over its predecessor.

Nubia Red Magic 3 Gaming Smartphone Launched In India

Chinese smartphone maker, Nubia launched its latest gaming smartphone the Red Magic 3 for its domestic market in the month of April. Due to the rise of mobile gaming in India, the company has launched the unique handset in the country. Speaking of uniqueness, it is the world’s first smartphone to pack a physical cooling fan.

The Nubia Red Magic 3 has a distinguishing design with a large screen display on the front and a metal back that houses several unconventional elements. It sports a 6.65 inch AMOLED display that has an FHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 px. To take the gaming experience a step further, the device’s display has a 90 Hz refresh rate which is similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro.
