Nokia launched its mid-tier flagship 8.1 last year. The phone was a mix of good specifications, a good camera and a decent price tag. One thing that was lacking from the device was a little more RAM. It seems like the wait is over as Nokia has announced the 8.1 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The phone is priced at Rs. 29,999.

Lately, Finnish smartphone manufacturer, HMD Global has been launching a lot of smartphones. Earlier this month, the company launched the Nokia 7.1. Now they have unveiled the Nokia 8.1 in Dubai. Like other Nokia phones, it also is an Android One device.

The Nokia 8.1 has an all-glass front and rear build with a metal chassis. The smartphone measures 154.8 x 75.76 x 7.97 mm and weighs in at 180 grams. On the front of the device sits a 6.18-inch Full HD+ notch display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The display panel has a resolution of 2246 x 1080 px and a pixel density of 403 ppi. It has been two years since Nokia started manufacturing smartphones with the Android OS. Nokia ships their smartphones with Android One, which allows the company to rapidly push out latest updates. A good build, competitive pricing, and fast updates have allowed Nokia to slowly gain traction in the smartphone market. HMD Global has teased the launch of three of its smartphones at its ‘Expect More’ event scheduled for December 5th. The event will most probably see the launch of the Nokia 2.1 Plus, the Nokia 8.1 and the Nokia 9 PureView. A recent leak has shown the covers for the Nokia 9 and the Nokia 8.1 listed online. This mostly confirms that we will see these two devices launching at the event.

The Nokia 8.1 will launch in India this month itself, according to a report. The report also claims that the Nokia 8.1 is the global variant of the Nokia X7 which was launched in China recently. However, there is no word on the global launch of the device as yet. But the source claims that it has got to know through retail sources that the device might launch in India on the 28th of November. The Nokia 8.1 was spotted on Geekbench a few weeks back. It has now popped up on the list of Google’s ARCore supported devices. With these listings already out, it is said that HMD will launch the smartphone soon. Other specifications of the device include the Snapdragon 710 SoC, 4 GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie. An upcoming premium smartphone from Nokia with the moniker Nokia 8.1 has appeared on Geekbench’s website before it’s official launch. The specifications of the Nokia 8.1 are quite similar to the recently launched Nokia X7 or Nokia 7.1 Plus.

The device has the same processor as the Nokia X7 which is the Snapdragon Qualcomm 710 SoC. It is an Octa-core processor, which according to Geekbench has a frequency of 1.71 GHz that is much less than what it is capable of. Geekbench results also reveal that the device has 4 GB of RAM. The device that was benchmarked might be the base variant of Nokia 8.1 as even the Nokia X7 is available with 4 GB or 6 GB RAM.
