Features And Layout Of Honor’s MagicBook Pro Laptop Leaked

Even though Huawei is facing a major setback after the US trade ban, its outlook on launching new products seems unaffected. To further improve its penetration in the portable computer market, Huawei’s sub brand, Honor is reportedly working on a premium laptop called Honor MagicBook Pro 16.1. The details about the device were shared on Twitter by the know tipster Evan Blass which exhibits the laptop’s features and design layout.

Honor MagicBook Pro Design and Features

According to the images shared by the source, the Honor MagicBook Pro’s design is highly remisicent of Apple’s 15 inch MacBook Pro. The laptop computer seems to have a chiclet style keyboard which is flanked by loudspeakers on the either side. The power button to turn on the device is placed in the right loudspeaker grille cutout which may double as a fingerprint sensor.

The Honor MagicBook Pro in this context has a 16.1 inch display which is surrounded by thin bezels on all four sides. Another notable feature of the device is a collapsible web camera which resides in the eight key in the top keyboard lane. This collapsible camera allows the company to shrink the bezels around the display while adding an element of security. As web camera’s high jacked by hackers can leak video footage of the user without their knowledge.

The other smartphone is touted to have a unique camera feature, details of which are unknown at the moment. One of the smartphones in the Samsung Galaxy R series may be the long rumoured Galaxy A90 which will be rebranded into the new lineup. The device has the model number SM-A90X and was leaked a while ago, but was later claimed to be launched as the Galaxy A80 back in the month of April. This suggests that the “unique” camera feature may be a pop-up mechanism to house the front-facing camera; as the feature was expected to debut with the Galaxy A90.

Future MacBook And iPad Models Reported To Feature OLED Display

Apple is one of the leaders in the market that it competes in. However, just holding top honours does not guarantee success forever, one must adapt to the ever-volatile industry. With this, the tech giant may now start introducing its OLED displays to more product lineups. We may soon start seeing better displays on its notebooks and tablets.

    Apple

According to a report, Apple is apparently seeking to make good on a contract with Samsung, the latter is one of the largest manufacturers of the aforementioned OLED displays. Reportedly, the American company has failed to buy enough units for the iPhone screens from Samsung. Hence, the bid to utilize the particular technology. This report is still unconfirmed by both parties in question, so a concrete conclusion cannot be formed.

    Apple

The tech giant has equipped the high-end screens on its flagship smartphones in the last few years. Even though most users are unaware of this fact, Samsung displays are actually one of the key selling points for the top-end premium smartphones used by Apple. As of now, several other OEMs have used OLED screens in their tablets and notebooks, however, Apple is yet to do the same. These screens have historically been well-received and a shift in display panels will definitely help bolster the company’s sales.

    New 2018 iPhone

Apple devices that ship with the OLED displays are still a while away from being seen. Furthermore, even if the company were to immediately issue the order for larger sized OLED panels, it will still be a couple of years before any product having them will be commercially available. However, if this is true future MacBook Pros and iPads will be the first devices apart from the Apple Watch and iPhones to receive the particular technology.

A more probable scenario would be the iPhone XR being equipped with the OLED screen due to its popularity. Hence, a better screen on the best-selling product, as said by Apple, is highly likely. Apple is planning on making significant additions and changes in its future lineup to make up for the slowing down of its sales and drop in market share.

OnePlus Now Holds 2% Share In Premium Smartphone Market

Even though it has been six years since OnePlus came into existence, it is still a young company in comparison to the likes of Apple and Samsung. The company launched its first handset in the year 2013 which was the OnePlus One. The device due to its worthy hardware and software received a warm welcome from the global audience.

Following the successful launch of its first handset, the company has never looked back. A freshly shared report by counterpoint research has revealed intriguing findings of the company’s performance. The report states that OnePlus’ has managed to grow steadily, despite the fact that the global premium smartphone market fell by eight percent in Q1 2019.

Notably, the company now holds 2 percent of the global smartphone shipments in the premium segment. Considering the fact that it has been limited to China, India and European markets until the second half of 2018, this achievement is worthwhile for the company.

The company has been registering strong growth since 2017. Notably, its sales increased over 45 percent in between the Q1 of 2017 and Q1 of 2018. Especially in India, the OnePlus 6T became the top selling premium smartphone. Besides, it is currently one of the top five smartphone companies in North America and has also recorded an upward graph in Western Europe.

In contrast, Apple which is the leader in the premium smartphone market saw a decline of 7 percent as it’s market share fell from 58 percent to 51 percent between the Q1 of 2017 and the subsequent year. Likewise, the Korean giant, Samsung also recorded a slight drop in market share during the same time period as the market share fell from 23 percent to 22 percent.

Following the launch of OnePlus 6T, the company registered its highest ever shipments in a single quarter (Q4 2018) in India. Falling into the footsteps of their predecessor, the company has launched two new handsets which include the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro.

OnePlus, in a press letter boasting of its achievement is hyped up for the market performance of its current gen device in the coming time. The company aims to further increase it reach in the global premium smartphone.

Samsung Electronics filed a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on the 20th of June 2019. This company has often acted on behalf of Samsung, so the connection makes sense. The description under the trademark mentions camera module for smartphones and ToF camera for smartphones. It all but confirms the presence of the sensor in at least one variant of the Galaxy Note 10; rumoured to be called the Galaxy Note 10 Pro.

The naming Make and Play 3D suggests the upcoming flagship device may utilise the camera module for AR purposes. It may sport a feature similar to Google Pixel’s Playground wherein users can put objects in real time using their camera. Xiaomi Announces The Selfie Centric CC Smartphone Series In China

It was revealed a while ago that Xiaomi is planning on introducing a new, selfie-centric smartphone series in China. This lineup was expected to be made in collaboration with the Meitu brand which Xiaomi acquired last year. Now, the CEO of the company has announced the lineup with a post on Chinese social networking website Weibo and revealed it will be known as the CC series. It was speculated that the company will also introduce new smartphones under the lineup with the announcement, but that didn’t happen.

    Xiaomi CC series

    Xiaomi CC9

As mentioned above, Xiaomi has announced the CC series of selfie centric smartphones made in collaboration with Meitu. The latter, before the former’s acquisition of its hardware business, was a known name in China in regard to smartphones that cater to the young generation. There were no devices launched as of yet, but it is expected that a handset with the moniker CC9 will be the first one to be launched under the series.

The senior Xiaomi executive in his post explained the reason behind the CC name, which stands for Colourful and Creative. The CC9 smartphone will also have a definitive meaning to its name. It is being released on the 9th anniversary of the Xiaomi brand, which is why the number is being added to the name. The teaser that was previously shown off reveals the CC9 will have a flip camera mechanism similar to the Asus 6Z launched a few days ago in India. Unlike the smartphone though, the CC9 will have a triple camera set up inside the module.

This insinuates that the handsets under the CC moniker will not have top tier hardware and will be focussed towards the youth. Unfortunately, further details about the CC series of smartphones are not available yet but are expected to be unveiled in the following weeks.

  • Google Pixel 4 Renders Reveal A New Mint Colour Option

Google Pixel 4 Renders Reveal A New Mint Colour Option

Google launched the first smartphone under its Pixel lineup back in the year 2016. The company since has been known for releasing two flagship handsets in the month of October each year. It is expected that the next iteration in the lineup will also follow the same pattern. These devices will be called the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL and will be a successor to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL launched last year. While the launch of the smartphones is still a few months down the road, Google in a surprising move revealed how they will look like in a teaser image on Twitter last week. Now, a leaked render of the devices showcasing a new colour option called Mint has appeared online.

    Pixel 4

    Google Pixel 4

As mentioned above, the Pixel 4 series will be a flagship offering from Google. The leaked image reaffirms the design that was showcased by the company a while ago. The device features a glass sandwich design and a square cutout at the back which houses the camera system. The optical setup of the handsets will be comprised of dual sensors, details about which are unknown at the moment; which will be combined with a spectral sensor. This sensor was also present in the previous generation and helps in reducing the flicker while recording a display of an electronic device.

    Google Pixel 4

A contradictory design feature visible in the images of the Pixel 4 renders is the difference in the camera placement in the cutout. While the previous renders had the sensors on the centre part of the square module, the white render has them in the top half. It is believed to be an intentional feature to differentiate between the regular and XL model from the back like done with the Pixel 2 series in the year 2017. The previous models had the camera sensors and LED module swapped to distinguish them from each other. Similarly, the regular Pixel 4 may have the sensors on the top part while the Pixel 4 XL may sport them on the centre.

Based on the latest renders, it has been showcased to have a different design to its predecessors. The handsets will have thin bezels around the display with a prominent forehead to house the front-facing sensors.  The Pixel 4 series has been leaked to have two selfie cameras, along with a slew of sensors for facial recognition and motion gestures. Unfortunately, more details about the smartphones are shrouded in mystery, but they are expected to be revealed as we move closer to their launch in October.

  • Apple Recalls Older MacBook Pro Citing Battery Hazards

Apple Recalls Older MacBook Pro Citing Battery Hazards

One of the most essential components of any mobile computing system is undoubtedly its battery pack, be it smartphones or laptops. What shouldn’t be taken lightly, however, is how potentially dangerous they can be if mounted incorrectly. Overheating is a serious danger when proper precautions are not taken and may cause serious harm to anyone by ignition or explosion (See Samsung Galaxy Note 7). Hence, Apple has issued a warning and recall for the 2015 MacBook Pros with Retina Display.

    MacBook Pro

Apple has reported that the batteries “may pose a fire safety risk.” Furthermore, the company stated that the risk affects only a limited number of units sold between September 2015 and February 2017. Although it will be far and few models that are actually affected between the period, it is still a great number considering the number of units that could be sold in a time frame of two years. Apple has sold the third generation MacBook Pro from 2012 to 2018, so not every device will fall under this risk.

    MacBook Pro

Owners of this version may want to check their serial numbers at the Apple’s support website. The model in question is the “MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)”. One will get a free battery replacement if they contact Apple, should the company deem them eligible. Unfortunately, the whole process might actually take about two weeks to resolve. This is a long wait for individuals who use their Mac laptops on a regular basis.

Instructions to check Battery Replacement eligibility

    • Visit this link
    • Enter your serial number. (Users can obtain their computers serial number by clicking the Apple logo in the top left and clicking ‘About This Mac’). The serial number will be displayed under the ‘overview’ tab.

    MacBook Pro

Furthermore, Apple has stated that no other devices such as the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display are affected which were sold in the same time period. Likewise, in the past, the company had recalled 2016 13-inch MacBook Pros as well, although not for safety issues.

The tech giant is yet to announce the exact details regarding the risk and fire hazard that users potentially face.

    MacBook Pro

It is still unclear exactly when the overheating battery issue was originally uncovered, regardless it is a risk that customers should be aware of. Apple has faced many past allegations related to quality control and battery issues, but it is praiseworthy that the company is willing to pay for faulty units out of its own pocket. Loyal Apple fans might just get a free battery pack after all. Still, user caution is advised for safety until the replacement programme is complete.

  • Motorola E6 Budget Smartphone Leaked

    Motorola E6 Budget Smartphone Leaked

On the 20th of June, Motorola launched the Moto One Vision with an unconventionally tall display. Freshly leaked images of a smartphone suggest that the company is gearing up for the launch of another device. The said device is the Motorola E6 which will succeed the Moto E5 from last year.

The ‘E’ series of smartphones from Motorola are targeted towards the budget sector and the upcoming device is expected to fall in the footsteps of its predecessors. The renders of the Moto E6 were leaked on Twitter by a notable tipster who goes by the Evan Blass, therefore, the chances of them turning out true are quite high.

    Motorola E6 Design

According to the leaked images, the Motorola E6 has a conservative design which is due to the fact that its display is surrounded by considerable bezels on all sides. The bezel above the display houses the front facing selfie camera and the earpiece while the bezel below the display is marked with the Motorola logo.

Similar to most modern Android smartphones, the right side of the Motorola E6 is occupied by the volume rocker and power button. While its left side is devoid of any ports or controls. The upcoming device also sports 3.5 mm jack which is present on the top. Though the images shared by the source do not exhibit the location of the USB charging port and SIM card tray, they are likely to be mounted on the bottom.

The rear of the alleged Motorola E6 houses a single rear facing camera along with an LED flash and what appears to be a fingerprint sensor. Due to lack of sufficient details, the presence of the biometric sensor cannot be confirmed. Even though the source has not provided any specifications of the device, previous Motorola smartphones in the ‘E’ lineup suggest that the future device will pack mediocre specs which will provide for smooth day to day operations.

Going by the build and design of the device, we feel that this could be a sub Rs 8,000 smartphone which will compete against the like of Redmi 7A. To sum up, we will have to wait for Motorola to verify whether the images are genuine or not.

Google Axes Its Tablet Lineup, Will Focus On Laptops Instead

Google launched devices under the Pixel branding starting the Pixel C tablet in 2015. The American technology giant has since then expanded the lineup to smartphones, laptops and smart speakers. While the latter has found some success in the market; the company has always found itself struggling with making a perfect tablet. The last device from the company, the Pixel Slate launched last year received abysmal reviews owing to its poor software experience. As mentioned above, Google has killed its tablet lineup for the future. This news was corroborated by a senior Google executive on microblogging website Twitter. He claims that the company will be solely focused on making laptops like the Pixelbook, however, the team will be committed to supporting the existing tablets on the market from other OEMs.

The company has also revealed that it has cancelled two tablet products which were in development. The devices were both smaller in size than the Pixel Slate and would have released sometime after this year. Employees of Google who were working on the project have been moved to different areas of the company. The company informed about its decision to its employees on the 19th of June in an internal meeting.

While Google has decided it will stop making tablets altogether, it still plans on supporting the Pixel Slate for the long term. This essentially means the device will keep receiving software updates for the foreseeable future. It also signifies the dying popularity of tablet devices that are not the Apple iPad. The category has seen a sharp decline in popularity over the last few years because of the low demand and poor quality software support.
