The smartphone features a 6.7 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 px. As mentioned above, there will be minimal to no bezels around the display. Samsung is expected to use a New Infinity display for the device. For biometrics and security, the handset will have an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Samsung Starts Manufacturing Its 5G Modem For Smartphones

The latest trend in smartphones this year has been the advent of 5G. The latest mobile connectivity standard promises better connection speeds and stability. Korean giant Samsung launched its first device supporting the standard, the Galaxy S10 5G at the Unpacked event in San Fransisco on February 20. It features the latest processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 855 SoC. To provide the handset 5G functionality, it also had the X50 modem. In a bid to develop a smartphone with homegrown internals, Samsung has started the production of its 5G components, including the Exynos 5100 5G modem, Exynos 5500 RF transceiver and the Exynos 5800 supply modulator.

    Samsung’s 5G Components

The Samsung Exynos 5100 5G modem is the company’s first modem that supports the new connection standard. While it completed all the preparations for commercialization in August 2018, it is presently ready for mass production. According to the company, the modem virtually supports most networks, right from the sub 6Ghz networks of 5G to 2G GSM/CDMA, 3G WCDMA, HSPA and 4G LTE. The Exynos 5100 is further paired with the Exynos RF 5500 and the Exynos SM 5800 which is the company’s Radio Frequency and supply modulator solution. Notably, these components combined are claimed to support up to 1 Gbps download speeds.

To maximize the data rate over the 5G network, the Exynos RF 5500 has 14 receiver paths for download and supports 4×4 MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output); and higher-order 256 QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modification). All of this helps in an efficient way to maximize the data transfer rate over the latest connection standard. The Exynos SM 5800 on the other hand, is a low-power supply modulator. It has been demonstrated to reduce the power consumption of the 5G modem by up to 30 percent. According to Samsung, it was achieved by adjusting the supply voltage according to the modems RF input signals.

Interestingly, in contrast to the previous connection standard 4G LTE, 5G components in smartphones take up significant space inside the device. This lets the OEM compromise on essential features like a microSD card and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Even Samsung, who is known to retain the said components in its handsets, removed the headphone jack from the Galaxy Fold and microSD card slot from the Galaxy S10 5G to save space. Furthermore, the mobile network standard is also notorious for consuming battery and producing a lot of heat. This is seen as the main reason for the slow, gradual rollout of 5G.

  • Samsung Registers “Triple Intellicam” Trademark, May Debut With The Galaxy A90

Samsung Registers “Triple Intellicam” Trademark, May Debut With The Galaxy A90

Samsung has been on a smartphone launching frenzy in the year 2019, as it has unveiled some really competitive handsets in the market so far. The Korean Technology company is planning to release yet another premium mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A90 which is expected to launch at an event in April. A trademark filing which was spotted at EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) reveals that the smartphone may have the “Triple Intellicam” feature, which will drastically change how lighting conditions affect photographs.

    What Is Intellicam?

“Intellicam” was a term that was first associated with the Galaxy A8 Star, which was released in June 2018. The A8 Star was the first Galaxy device that had a “Dual Intellicam”, which automatically adapted its settings as per the lighting conditions, enabling the user to capture well-lit images. Consequently, the “Triple Intellicam” is expected to function on the same lines of the “Dual Intellicam” with enhanced capabilities.

Samsung has always been innovative from the perspective of smartphone cameras, and the company is not looking to disappoint here. “Triple Intellicam” may use AI optimization to capture images in low light and very high light, just like Scene Optimizer in Samsung’s high-end devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S10. Furthermore, the company is also expected to incorporate a pop-up camera in the upcoming device.

    Expected Specifications And Availability

The Galaxy A90 is speculated to be the first phone from the company without any punch hole cutout or a notch of any sorts. Moreover, this may lead to a bezel-free screen on the smartphone, and taking into account the aforementioned pop-up camera, this may actually be a stark reality. The Galaxy A90 is expected to sport an 11 nm based Snapdragon 7150 SoC, and even though very little is known about the chipset itself, it will provide enhanced support for AI, gaming and camera.

As the handset sports an ‘e’ moniker in the name, it is expected to be a specced down variant of the Galaxy A20, like the Galaxy S10e. However, it could just be a country-specific variant of its sibling.

The Galaxy A20e is expected to run on the Exynos 7884 SoC which consists of an Octa-core CPU. This is the same processor also used in the Galaxy A20. Leaked images reveal the device has a dual rear camera setup, details of which are unknown as of now. • Samsung Working On A Two Way Folding Smartphone Claims Patent

Samsung Working On A Two Way Folding Smartphone Claims Patent

The year 2019 so far has seen a handful of unique and innovative foldable smartphones. Many manufacturers have already tried their hands on this technology with more expected to follow suit soon. Samsung, one of the biggest smartphone OEMs in the world, showed of it’s device supporting this technology. Called the Galaxy Fold, it was launched alongside the Galaxy S10 series last month. But, a fresh patent filed by the company reveals that it is also planning to launch a two-way folding smartphone, which is similar to the Xiaomi’s foldable device that has leaked multiple times.

    Samsung’s Two Way Foldable Smartphone

The patent reveals what Samsung may be planning for its next foldable smartphone. First filed in the year 2017, the document of the patent showcases different images of the said device. Upon first inspection, it looks very similar to the handset Xiaomi revealed in a video a while ago. But in contrast to the former, the concept has thinner bezels and offers a larger sized screen in a compact frame. The bigger display can individually be folded from the left and right side of the device and be made into a smaller form factor.

An unusual finding from the images present in Samsung’s patent is the lack of any physical or hardware features. There is no opening like a charging port or a 3.5mm headphone jack anywhere to be found on the smartphone. Also not visible are any camera sensors on any side of the device. All of this may be an indication that Samsung is not nearly ready to launch the handset, or it may be the case that the company has figured out a workaround of the aforementioned hardware features to make the screen to body ratio as high as possible.

It sports an Infinity-O display which means the screen has a punch hole camera on its top left corner like the Galaxy A8s launched last year. For biometrics and security, leaked images reveal the Galaxy A60 will have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and support for face unlock technology.

The Galaxy A60 is expected to run on the 11nm Snapdragon 675 SoC. The chipset has an Octa-core CPU and Adreno 612 GPU. In terms of optics, the smartphone will have a triple rear camera, details of which are unknown as of now. The front camera will be housed in the Infinity-O style punch hole display on the front. Refuting previous reports, the Galaxy A60 has been listed to be powered by a 3410mAh battery. Notably, it will have a lower capacity than the Galaxy A50 which has a 4000mAh battery.

    Galaxy A70

The Galaxy A70, as the name suggests, will be the specced up sibling of the aforementioned Galaxy A60. Like other smartphones in the lineup, it will also feature the same ‘Glasstic’ gradient design on the back. The listing reveals it will have a 6.7 inch Super AMOLED display with FullHD+ resolution. Unlike its sibling, it will have an Infinity-U display which is also present in the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A30. For biometrics and security, the device will have an in-display fingerprint sensor with support for face unlock technology.

Previous reports cited that the Galaxy A70 may also run on the Snapdragon 675 SoC like its sibling. Unfortunately, no leaks regarding the optics of the smartphone have surfaced online. But like the Galaxy A50, it may have a triple rear camera setup and a single selfie camera housed in the Infinity-U notch. The device will be powered by a massive 4400mAh battery and may support fast charging.
