Panasonic hasn’t refreshed its premium smartphone range from quite a while, but the Japanese firm is now retrieving the lost position, catching up with high-end offerings by other brands. The consumer electronics giant gained some spotlight with the launch of Lumix DCM-CM1 in the US, introduced last year in September. The CM1 is a smartphone/mirrorless camera encompassing some of the best features of camera and smartphone. The device is priced at a whopping $1,000 (approximately Rs. 64,300), more than the high-end phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 128GB and iPhone 6.

The company today has launched two Toughpads and a semi-rugged Toughbook, an expansion of Panasonic’s Toughpad line. Panasonic launches a new product to its LUMIX Digital Single Lens Mirrorless cameras. The new DMC-GM1 is a sleek camera with large Digital Live MOS Sensor based on the Micro Four Thirds system standard.
The GM1 is small in size and features a 16-megapixel sensor along with a a 3-inch tilting LCD. The device has a 1 / 16,000 shutter speed, does 1080p video recording, electric shutter and built-in wireless. Panasonic Corp is considering exiting from the plasma screen market as part of a major restructuring over the next three years, a news report said Monday.
The embattled consumer electronics producer plans to terminate production of plasma panels at its main plant in the western Japanese city of Amagasaki around the financial year starting in April 2014, the Nikkei business daily reported without citing any sources.
