The race to put out the fastest Android smartphones in the market has started again. Mere hours after Qualcomm unveiled its latest Snapdragon 855, multiple OEMs either welcomed or announced its introduction in their respective upcoming devices. To name a few, Asus ROG Phone 2 and the upcoming flagship from Realme is also rumoured will feature the new chipset. Now, nubia’s official page on Weibo has confirmed the incorporation of the high end SoC on its upcoming Red Magic 3 variant.

Previously, nubia had unveiled the Red Magic Mars variant for its first iteration of gaming smartphone. Both smartphones launched in 2018 but only the higher variant sported the Snapdragon 845 while the standard featured the Snapdragon 835. Hence, it can be speculated that the upcoming Red Magic 3 variant will be named similarly. The Red Magic account Weibo stated its willingness to adapt to changes quickly and that its gaming smartphone will soon be upgraded to Snapdragon 855 Plus.  nubia

It is yet to be seen if the older Red Magic 3 will see a price cut or discontinuation after the newer version arrives. Furthermore, the expected arrival of the upcoming gaming smartphone from nubia is a mystery. According to the image, an image of the Snapdragon 855 Plus is seen alongside the logo. We will have to wait for a more elaborate official statement from nubia for finer details on the new Red Magic 3 variant.

The inclusion of the latest and most powerful mobile chipset from Qualcomm would provide a noticeable boost in performance to nubia gaming smartphones. However, OEM based optimisation and customisation is a major factor in real life performance rather than just better raw power. The new chipset boasts 15% boost in overall performance over the standard SD855 version; notably, it is also a 5G ready chipset. More information is expected to be available in the arriving weeks and updates will be provided soon.
