Xiaomi Patents A Smartphone That Transforms Into A Tablet

Earlier this year, a senior Xiaomi executive showcased a foldable smartphone that could transform into a large-screen tablet. Following the event, Samsung and Huawei launched their first foldable smartphones which are dubbed the Galaxy Fold and Mate X respectively. Unfortunately, due to quality issues, the launch of both these handsets have been pushed back to September.

While Xiaomi was also assumed to launch its foldable smartphone soon after the launch of Huawei and Samsung’s offering, clearly that has not happened. But the company has been granted patents of a foldable smartphone that suggest that the device could launch soon.

According to the patents, the front of the Xiaomi smartphone has a flexible display that can fold from either end. Noteworthy, the bezels around the display are negligible which provides the device with an overall elegant design.

The rear of the Xioami smartphone seems to be made out of metal with two rubber straps that conceal the foldable hinge. The rubber-like material is similar to what is found on the previously launched Royole Flexpai. In addition, it also houses a triple camera setup.

The images do not reveal any cutout or notch for the front-facing selfie camera on the Xiaomi smartphone. It is likely that the device will debut with an under-display selfie camera, which several companies (1,2) are working on.

Also, it does not have a rear-mounted or side-mounted biometric sensor, perhaps, it will have an in-display fingerprint sensor which is slowly becoming a common sighting on premium and mid-range smartphones.

In addition to functional design, the Xiaomi smartphone is expected to have high-end specifications. Therefore, it could feature the Snapdragon 855 or 855 Plus chipset. In terms of memory, it is expected to at least have 6 GB of RAM.

In order to verify the claims and leaks, we will have to wait patiently until Xiaomi addresses the device publically. Besides, the foldable smartphone from Xiaomi is expected to be more affordable than Samsung and Huawei’s offering which cost about US $ 2000.

What are your thoughts on the foldable smartphone from Xiaomi? Let us know in the comments below.

The new camera setup would be a first in Redmi’s series of mid range smartphones. The company’s General Manager shared a post on Weibo which had a video that confirmed the mass production of a 64MP quad camera smartphone. Previously, we had separately reported on a 64MP camera on a Redmi device and a rumour on the Note 8. Now, it seems that it might just be one and the same.

According to a leaked render, the rear of the smartphone features a vertical camera setup that consists of quad camera sensors. It is identical to the mass production video of a smartphone shared online. Hence, it seemingly confirms that the Redmi Note 8 will feature a 64MP quad camera setup. Notably, the confirmation of the 64MP quad camera smartphone arrived half a month prior but didn’t reveal the name.

    Design

The image leaked of the Redmi Note 8 portrays a vertically stacked triple camera module flanked by a fourth sensor on the left side. On top of the lone fourth sensor is a dual tone LED flash. The back carries the signature Redmi branding with a “designed by Xiaomi” tag. It can be observed that the left of the device houses the the volume rockers while the right features the power button. Furthermore, there is no indication of a rear mounted fingerprint scanner. So, it is likely to feature an in display fingerprint scanner.

Xiaomi Teases The Worlds First 108MP Camera Smartphone

In 2019, the smartphone industry saw a bump in the overall megapixel count for smartphone cameras. The latest models featured 48MP sensors while most flagships from 2018 didn’t even cross the 20MP mark. Xiaomi is now seeking to take things a step further with components supplied by Samsung. The latest innovation is seeing the South Korean giant push the bounds once again with a 108MP sensor. It trumps the company’s unreleased 64MP GW1 camera sensor as well.

    Samsung GW1 Sensor

A few companies like Realme and Xiaomi will employ the GW1 Samsung sensors on their upcoming smartphones. Samsung’s GW1 sensor features ISOCELL Plus technology which uses the large megapixel count to help reduce noise and improve overall image quality in low light scenarios. It is speculated that the Mi Mix 4 will feature the new camera module and will be available by the end of 2019.

On 17th July 2019, Xiaomi launched its long-awaited Mi A3 smartphone. The mid range device made its debut in Spain and succeeded the Mi A2 which was launched in the year 2018. Previously, it was uncertain if the device would see an Indian launch. Now, a launch date for the same has been revealed, the device will be sold from 23rd August 2019.

    Xiaomi Mi A3

Similar to its predecessors, the latest iteration is also Android One certified which means it is guaranteed to receive major software updates for two years and security updates for three years. The Xiaomi Mi A3 is based on the Mi CC9e but unfortunately features no real upgrades. It means that it also sports a 6.01 inch OLED display with a 1560 x 720px resolution; a downgrade from the Mi A2 that featured a 1080p panel. The device is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 Soc which is paired with 4GB of RAM. Internal storage is offered in two variants including 64GB and 128GB. It also supports memory expansion up too 256GB via a microSD card.

    Xiaomi Mi A3

One of the key defining features of the device is undoubtedly its triple rear camera setup. The Xiaomi Mi A3 sports a 48MP primary camera alongside 8MP wide-angle lens and a 2MP depth sensor. The front of the device houses a 32MP camera sensor for clicking selfies. It is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps with the rear camera. Furthermore, the front camera only supports capturing 1080p videos at 30fps. Slo-Mo recording is also present on the device.

The handset is capable of 18W fast charging, however, only a 10W power adapter is bundled in the box and the former must be bought separately. • Freshly Patented Xiaomi Smartphone Could Be The Poco F2

Freshly Patented Xiaomi Smartphone Could Be The Poco F2

In the year 2018, Xiaomi launched the flagship-grade Poco F1 which due to its value for money was well-received across the globe. Six months after its launch, reports via unofficial started surfacing that claimed the company will launch its successor which clearly has not yet happened.

On the 6th of August, Xiaomi was granted patent for an under development smartphone whose design seems familiar. The rear of the device houses a vertically aligned camera setup and a fingerprint sensor which is reminiscent of the Poco F1.
    Poco F2 Patent Alleged

Moreover, the placement of USB Type C port, IR blaster and control buttons and SIM card slot on this device is heterogenous to that of the Poco F1.

Besides the handset in the patent has triple cameras rather than dual cameras. Due to the similar layout or ports, buttons, sensors and camera module, we believe this could indeed be the long-awaited Xiaomi Poco F2.

Talking about the front of the smartphone, it has an elegant looking front fascia. Unlike the original handset that has a wide notch up top, the alleged Poco F2 has a punch hole camera which helps to maximise the screen-to-body ratio.

Poco F2 Patent AllegedHowever, the patent reveals three different arrangements for the placement of the punch hole camera. Therefore, the company is yet to reach a decision as in which design will be implemented in the commercially available device.

Unfortunately, the source does not reveal any specifications of the smartphone. Nonetheless, based on our assumptions, the Poco F2 will have the following features:

    • Screen: 6.4 Inch, LCD Display, Full HD Resolution
    • Rear Camera: 48 MP + 8 MP + 13 MP
    • Front Camera: 20 MP
    • Battery: 4,000 mAh, 27 W
    • Chipset: Snapdragon 855
    • CPU: Octa Core
    • GPU: Adreno 640
    • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0, 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, USB Type C Port, NFC, GPS
    • Notable Features: Rear Mounted Fingerprint Sensor, Punch Hole Camera

Conclusively, based on our assumptions, this device has a high possibility of being the Poco F2. Though we will have to wait patiently until Xiaomi acknowledges the patent or speaks publically about the handset.

  • Upcoming Xiaomi Smartphone Will Feature The Samsung GW1 64MP Camera Sensor

Upcoming Xiaomi Smartphone Will Feature The Samsung GW1 64MP Camera Sensor

We have previously covered a report regarding Xiaomi working on an upcoming smartphone with a 64MP primary sensor. The company had thereon also proclaimed that it would schedule an event to address the new technology. The date was set for today (7th of August 2019) and took place just a day prior to Realme’s announcement for a similar technology.

We had previously speculated that the upcoming Xioami smartphone will feature the Samsung GW1 Sensor and that assumption has turned into a reality.

Unfortunately, Xiaomi is yet to announce the name of the smartphone or which series it will be a part of. Disparte to what was previously alleged, the handset will launch in the Q4 of 2019 which is still distant. Xiaomi’s President took to stage to announced the 64MP imaging technology to further push the industry standards similar to Realme’s first announcement.

    Xiaomi

The upcoming Xiaomi smartphone features Samsung Electronics’ GW1 sensors which utilize ISOCELL Plus technology. The imaging technology is used to create pixel to pixel barrier to reduce light interference between individual pixels. In other word words, the sensor can bar light from being reflected off a pixel to another which may reduce colour reproduction or quality.

The GW1 also features smart ISO supported by Dual Conversion Gain technology. It adjusts its ISO sensitivity based on ambient light intensity automatically. This allows the technology to use low ISO in bright scenarios or high ISO in dim lighting to achieve the best image possible.

Samsung’s GW1 outputs 64MP photos that carry a resolution of 9248 X 6936 pixels. Additionally, the sensor features real-time hardware support for high dynamic range (HDR) of up to 100 decibels as well. In comparison, a conventional image sensor has a dynamic range of 60 decibels. This translates to an overall better colour capturing capabilities. Hence, we can assume that Xiaomi’s upcoming smartphone might just be one of the best photography centric devices that the company has ever offered.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 Said To Feature 45W Fast Charging And 5G Networking

Xiaomi is one of the most renowned smartphone companies in the world. It is recognized for its diverse offerings in the affordable ranges with relatively low priced premium devices as well. The Mi Mix series is one such great examples of lucratively priced smartphones which offer industry-leading specifications. Now, a fresh report has pointed at the possibility of the Mi Mix 4 featuring 45W fast charging and 5G networking capabilities.

    Xiaomi Mi Mix 4

The China Compulsory Certificate (CCC) had been issued by the China National Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA) for an upcoming 5G Xiaomi smartphone. The yet unknown device bears the model number “M1908F1XE” according to the certification which also divulges a bit of information.

Furthermore, the listings portray Xiaomi planning on upgrading its current fast-charging solutions for its flagship range smartphones. Currently, smartphone-like Mi 9 and Redmi K20 Pro have the highest charging rates at 27W. The company is reportedly aiming at bumping the number to 45W with its latest generation of smartphones.

    Xiaomi Mi Mix 4

The higher charging technology brings Xiaomi a step closer to the incredibly fast 100W SuperCharge technology; it was first teased by the company via a video earlier this year on Weibo. In the video, Xiaomi fully charged a 4,000mAh battery using its 100W fast charge in about 17 minutes. Hence, even if the 45W isn’t as impressive would still yield a noticeable improvement over the preceding fast-charging solutions.

It is not confirmed that the certified device is Mi Mix 4 as no official announcements have been made. However, going by past releases and update cycle, only the Mi Mix series is in line for a new launch. It is unlikely if Xiaomi unveils an entirely new range just for a new charging technology improvement. Additionally, since the Mi Mix 3 offered Snapdragon 855, the Mi Mix 4 will probably sport the Snapdragon 855+, the latest iteration. More information should arrive soon, stay tuned for updates.

  • Xiaomi Is Developing A Smartphone With Solar Panel

Xiaomi Is Developing A Smartphone With Solar Panel

Chinese conglomerate, Xiaomi launches a wide variety of smartphones every year that range from budget devices like the Redmi Go to flagship-grade Mi Mix and Redmi K20 Pro. Due to its value for money offerings, it has become a well-known brand around the globe.

Apart from competitively priced devices, the company is also investing resources to develop unique and innovative devices, one of which includes the unreleased two-way foldable smartphone.

According to freshly discovered patents, Xiaomi is working on a handset with rear-mounted solar panels. Yes! you read it right, the technology that has been fantasied ever since the inception of smartphones may soon become a reality suggests the patent.

In terms of design, the front of the Xiaomi smartphone is reminiscent of the Redmi K20 duo that has a high screen-to-body ratio display. The handset lacks a visible fingerprint sensor, therefore, the company could opt for an under-display scanner which is slowly becoming a common sighting on mid-range and premium devices.

The rear of the Xiaomi device from the patent has a vertically aligned dual-camera setup which slightly protrudes from the surface.

Noteworthy, the solar panel on the device has been thoughtfully embedded into the rear. Hence, it does not stick out allowing the smartphone to maintain a slim profile which is as portable as a conventional smartphone of this size.

Clearly, the sole purpose of the solar panel will be to recharge the inbuilt battery of the handset. Unfortunately, fine details like the wattage generated by the solar panel are currently unavailable.

Nonetheless, going by its size it is assumed to produce 50-10 watts of energy per hour. For reference, a smartphone with 4000 mAh capacity battery which is rated 3.7 v can hold a total current of 14.8 W.

Hence taking the previously mentioned Whr power generation, it would take between 3 to 6 hours to fully replenish the inbuilt battery.

Most importantly, the brightness of the sun will also affect the charging speed of the device. Charging a smartphone with a built-in solar panel might take significantly more time in comparison to currently available fast chargers, the technology will only get better with passing time.

To sum it up, a smartphone with a solar panel is a welcoming addition from Xiaomi. However, the patent does not suggest any launch date of such a device. Consequently, we will have to wait patiently until the company itself reveals more details about.

After Realme, Xiaomi Boasts Of A Smartphone With 64 MP Camera

Earlier this month, Chinese smartphone maker, Realme had shared a Twitter post that addressed a smartphone with a 64 MP camera. The company has scheduled a media briefing on the 8th of August which will reveal more details about the upcoming smartphone.

Aiming to steal its thunder, Xiaomi has announced the media briefing of its 64 MP camera smartphone on the 7th of August which is a day before Realme.

However, the Realme event will be held in India whereas the Xiaomi event will be held in China. Therefore, it is assumed that the former will be the first one in line to offer a commercially available 64 MP camera smartphone in India.

Nonetheless, both the upcoming smartphones from Xiaomi and Realme are assumed to incorporate the same sensor, Samsung made Isocell GW1.

For readers who are unaware, the Samsung Isocell GW1 utilises a technology called Pixel Binning. It combines the image data captured from multiple sensors to produce a single image. Hence, the sensor actually consists of four 16 MP sensors which produce a combined output of 64 MP.

Besides the 64 MP sensor, the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone is reported to have three additional sensors which will be as follows:

    • Ultra-Wide Sensor
    • Depth Sensor Sensor
    • ToF Sensor (Time Of Flight)

Noteworthy, the images captured via 64 MP phone will have a file size of about 20 MP and can be best viewed on displays with upto 8K resolution.

Any fine details including the name of specifications of the Xiaomi smartphone are currently unavailable and they will only be revealed after the previously mentioned event.
