Google Researchers Discover Six Serious Security Flaws In The Apple iPhone

Apple released its routine iOS 12.4 update for iPhones and iPads earlier this month. The update, like most software updates by the company claims of patching newly found security flaws and bugs. Now, in the latest report, it has been revealed that most of these serious security flaws that were patched in the iOS 12.4 update were originally discovered by Google security researchers. Out of the total six bugs reported, five have been already fixed, with one unknown flaw still remaining unchecked.

    About The Security Flaws

The aforementioned security flaws in the latest version of iOS were found by two members of Google’s Project Zero bug-hunting team. These two people are named Natalie Silvanovich and Samuel Groß, who alerted Apple immediately upon finding the flaws. While what vulnerabilities were discovered have not been revealed for obvious security purposes, they have been claimed to be interactionless. This means they can be exploited without any interaction from the user of the iPhone. The flaw has been found in the smartphone’s iMessage application.

Among the total six security flaws found by Google, at least four relied on the attacker/hacker sending malicious code to an iPhone. It is recommended that users of the Apple iPhone who still have not updated their device, do so at the earliest. The remaining security flaw that still hasn’t been patched, is expected to be fixed with the next update of the iOS software.

These vulnerabilities, if left unchecked can be exploited by various criminal organisations, hackers and many intelligence agencies. Project Zero was announced by Google on the 15th of July 2014 and has been responsible for finding many serious security flaws with major software and devices.

LG Is Working On A Flexible Smartphone With Rollable Display

The year 2019 has seen many new innovations and trends popularised in the mainstream mobile industry. One of such innovative buzzwords surrounded flexible or foldable smartphones. Samsung with the Galaxy Fold was one of the first to reveal a functioning smartphone with a flexible display despite all its flaws. Now, LG is also reportedly jumping on the bandwagon to introduce its own flexible smartphone which may have a rollable display.

    LG
    Samsung Galaxy Fold

LG has trademarked the name ‘LG Rolling’ with the South Korean Intellectual Property Office. Earlier this year, the South Korean company had also trademarked names such as ‘Roll Canvas’, ‘Rotolo’, ‘The Roll’, ‘E Roll’, ‘Dual Roll’, ‘Signature R’, ‘R Screen’, ‘R Canvas’, and ‘Bi Roll’ with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Hence, it is speculated that an LG smartphone with a flexible rollable display is currently under development.

Notably, LG has already used rollable displays in the past. The technology is currently employed on its Signature OLED TV R. As the name suggests, it is an OLED TV that was showcased at CES 2019. The Signature TV features a 65 inch OLED display that can roll back into the base when not in use. Previously, LG had confirmed that they were planning to work on a rollable and foldable smartphone after various reports and rumours surfaced.

The freshly granted patent suggests that LG’s rollable handset is currently in-development stages whiles its name is still undecided.

Conclusively, LG may probably not end up calling the device ‘Rolling’ but use the moniker to represent its key feature. Furthermore, the inclusion of the Signature TV technology in smartphones is a great step in innovation for the mobile industry. Foldable smartphones have already been made and seen but a rolling device could be the next big trend for the arriving year. Unfortunately, concrete information is still lacking but more news is expected to arrive soon, so stay tuned.

Upcoming Xiaomi Smartphones To Feature An In Display Camera

Xiaomi is a renowned brand in the smartphone industry. The company is known to offer multiple devices at every range from entry-level to premium grade flagships. The Chinese OEM has managed to incorporate the latest trends relatively quick with devices such as the Redmi K20 series with its popup camera. Now, Xiaomi is reportedly planning on releasing smartphones with an in-display punch hole selfie camera.

    Xiaomi

Xiaomi has jumped on many of the trending bandwagons of the year like using in display fingerprint scanner and full body display. However, no punch hole selfie camera has yet been seen from the company. Back in February, Xiaomi was reported to have filed patents for a smartphone with a punch hole camera in different variations. The fresh report now also offers three different form factor of the upcoming Xiaomi device. According to the source, the smartphone is currently patented with 3 different models, namely A, B and C for now.

    Xiaomi Punch Hole

Model A features a wide punch hole display which houses all of the fundamental front sensors and selfie camera on the top left of the display. On the other hand, Model B features a similar anymore noticeable setup at the top centre. Model C is rather unique with a rather unfamiliar selfie camera and sensor setup spreading from the top centre to the flanking sides. Notably, each  variation has a dual camera sensors while Model A’s punch hole recess is slightly higher than the other two. Furthermore, it is also unknown which sensors is housed but the patents mention ‘structured light’ so 3D face sensors might be planned.

  • Vivo Is Developing Multiple Smartphones With Dual Displays

Vivo Is Developing Multiple Smartphones With Dual Displays

In the past, Chinese smartphone maker, Vivo had launched a couple of innovative smartphones which include the Vivo NEX and Vivo NEX dual-screen variant. The key highlighting feature of both the smartphones is exceptionally high screen-to-body ratio. However, as the name suggests, the NEX dual-screen variant takes the idea a step further by accommodating dual displays.

Vivo NEX Dual Display According to freshly granted patents, Vivo is developing a couple more smartphones that feature two displays. Out of which, one is placed on the front while a smaller secondary display is present on the rear. The two handsets have a similar design with the key difference being disparate camera arrangement.

Like the original Vivo NEX dual display, both the Model A and Model B in the patens have a large screen edge-to-edge display on the front. The earpiece for receiving phone calls is embedded in the thin bezel right above the display.

In terms of ports and button, the bottom of both the Vivo handsets is occupied by a USB port which is flanked by the loudspeaker and microphone grille. Moving to the sides, the left side of the devices is occupied by a power button and volume controller. Likewise, the right side also houses another set of volume rockers which can be used depending upon whether the front or the rear display is in use. Vivo NEX Dual Display

As previously mentioned the rear of both the Model A and Model B of the Vivo smartphone house a secondary display. But the Model A features a comparatively larger ring light which is accompanied by the camera sensor and a secondary hidden flash. On the other hand, the Model B has a capsule-shaped ring light which surrounds the camera sensor.

Besides, both the Vivo smartphones can also utilise the rear display as a screen light as seen on applications like Snapchat. All in all, these Vivo handsets are just slightly modified variants of the original dual-display smartphone. Therefore, we believe they have a high probability of turning into real-life devices which will be commercially available.Vivo NEX Dual Display

Lenovo To Soon Launch A Smartphone With a Slider Front Camera

In 2019, the smartphone industry saw many new design trends rise in popularity. The buzzwords were terms like popup camera (generally on the front), all-screen display, and an in-display fingerprint scanner to name a few. OEMs have been creating around these aspects and have released many unique smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy A80 which incorporates all of the aforementioned features. Now, Lenovo may soon introduce another handset with a slider mechanism similar to the Z5 Pro.

    Lenovo

According to a fresh report, a patent has been spotted on CNIPA (Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration) for a new smartphone with a sliding mechanism. The upcoming Lenovo handset will feature a new slider mechanism and is expected to arrive within a year. The component that slides behind the main display houses all the necessary sensors that the front of any smartphone offers alongside the selfie camera. The patent Lenovo was granted pertains two devices. It means that the sliding model will be offered in two variants.

    Lenovo

The lower iteration of the sliding Lenovo smartphone only has a single selfie camera and a round dual camera module at the rear. Since the front sensors hide behind the main display when not in use, the device will offer a full front panel display. The higher variant is similar in appearance but features more cameras. Unlike the former, the latter is equipped with a dual selfie camera and a triple camera setup at the rear. The round camera module seems to be heavily influenced or borrow from Motorola’s design formula.

Google Confirms The Pixel 4 Will Support Face Unlock And Motion Gestures

It has been revealed that Google is working on the next generation of its flagship smartphones. Revealed to be the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, the devices will be the successors to last year’s Pixel 3 series. In an unprecedented move, the company showed off the handset’s design months prior to its launch. This made most of the leaks surrounding the Pixel 4 useless and gave Google the upper hand in building the hype around the smartphone. In what can be called another unique step, the company has revealed a few key features of the Pixel 4 in a new blog post.

    Pixel 4

In the blog post shared by Google, it has been revealed that its upcoming flagship smartphone Pixel 4 will support face unlock. The device is not expected to feature any form of fingerprint sensors, so facial authentication may be the only way to access the handset. The new feature is speculated to be as secure as FaceID found on newer Apple iPhones like the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. It will also be used for payment authentication inside the Play Store and supported apps.

    Google Pixel 4

The teaser by Google also showcases a different type of technology on Pixel 4. According to the video, the upcoming smartphone will support motion sensing via a barrage of sensors present on the forehead bezel above the display. This feature will be called Motion Sense and will use the Soli technology the company showcased a while ago. It will allow users to skip songs, snooze alarms and silence phone calls by waving their hands, according to Google. The feature is claimed to get better over time. At launch, Motion Sense will only be available in a select few countries, names of which are not known yet.
