Samsung Galaxy S7 vs LG G5: Who Wins?

Samsung and LG both unveiled their flagship Galaxy S7 and G5 devices at the MWC last month. Samsung today launched the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in India at a price of Rs 48,900 and Rs 56,900, respectively. Meanwhile, LG is reportedly going to launch the G5 by the end of July.

Samsung wanted to keep the design language of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge similar to its S6 counterparts from last year, only adding a MicrosSD card slot, a curved edge at the back on the Galaxy S7, and next-gen specifications. LG went with a radical new modular design with the G5 and packs some serious under the hood specifications.

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 arrived with pretty much the same design language as the S6 only adds a curved edge at the back and a MicroSD and slot. It’s an evolution on its predecessor, adding only what was missing in the S6 and nothing more. That being said, the S7 still doesn’t come with a USB Type-C port, which was highly expected this time around. The metal is made of a stronger alloy than the S6 and the rounded edges give a smoother feel. The S7 comes with slimmer bezels and narrower body.

The 5.1-inch S7 Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution. Two SoC configurations are offered – one being the new Exynos 8890 and the other being Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820. The device comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and a bigger 3000mAh battery as compared to its predecessor. A fingerprint sensor is housed in the home button and the phone also features an Always On display and is IP68 certified which means it is dust-proof and water resistant up to 1.5 meters. The S7 does not, however, offer a USB Type-C port but rather sticks with the traditional Micro USB port.

    Galaxy S7

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Plus had incredible cameras that won last year. Both the S7 and S7 Edge employs a ‘Dual Pixel’ image sensor with a 12MP and a large f/1.7 aperture rear camera and a 5MP front. Samsung has boasted of exceptional low-light captures with the Galaxy S7 devices, and it may just dominate the camera department once again this year.

The new sensor allows the device to capture images quickly while ensuring exceptional image quality, regardless of lighting conditions. Other camera features include Motion Panorama and Selfie Flash.

The LG G5, on the other hand, comes packing a primary 5.3-inch QHD LCD display with 3D Arc Glass on top. It also comes with an Always On feature that lights up the display for access to important updates. The phone’s construction is full metal unibody and is powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, expandable by up to 200GB with microSD cards. The device offers a USB Type-C port that allows for faster charging.

When it comes to photography, the phone is equipped with dual cameras at the back. A standard 16-megapixel 78-degree lens and another 8-megapixel 135-degree wide angle lens. The LG G5 features a front-facing 8-megapixel camera too for clicking selfies.

    LG G5 01

LG has worked hard on the modular design language of the phone. The G5 has a full metal body and comes with impressive specifications but the what sets the phone apart from its competition is the fact that it comes with modular attachments which can be utilised to enhance the camera and battery of the phone. Over to the back, you can see the dual camera module and a rounded fingerprint sensor below it.

Some early AnTuTu benchmark tests show the G5 shattering all records, scoring over the Galaxy S7 by quite a margin. The G5 scores above 130,000 whereas the Galaxy S7 hovers around 110,000 mark.

Spec Battle: Moto X Force vs Lumia 950XL vs Nexus 6P vs HTC One M9 vs Galaxy S6 Edge+

Motorola launched the Moto X Force in India with a price tag of Rs 49,999 for the 32GB variant and Rs 53,999 for 64GB option. The phone was launched globally last year as Droid Turbo 2 and now it has arrived here with its much talked about ShatterShield display.

On the specs front, Moto X Force packs a 5.4 inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core chipset along with 3 GB of RAM. The two internal storage options of 32 GB and 64 GB are expandable up to 2 TB with the help of a microSD card.

Moto X Force Hands On iGyaan 09

The USP of the device is its super-hardy screen. Motorola claims to have integrated a ‘Moto Shattershield’ technology in the display of Moto Force which, it says, is the first shatterproof screen in a phone ever. The company feels confident enough to affirm the screen would stay intact for up to four years, owing to the multiple layers of different materials used in making it capable of absorbing shock and providing protection against cracking. The phone also boasts of two touchscreen layers, which make sure that the smartphone can be used even if one of the layers is cracked.

With the given specs and price tag, a few other devices come to mind like the Lumia 950XL, Nexus 6P, HTC One M9 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+. The Moto X Force not only has a strong exterior but does impressively in the hardware department as well. The AMOLED display is sharp and bright despite the layers of glass on top. The X Force also has a giant battery that will provide enough of juice to get you through the day and then some.

Moto X Force Hands On iGyaan 02

However, the camera in the moto X Force isn’t the best, especially when compared to the Galaxy S6 Edge+, Lumia 950XL and even the dubious HTC One M9. The Moto X Force also comes with a pretty bland design, which pales in front of the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Nexus 6P which come with a premium look and feel to it that fit the price bracket.

Let’s see where the Moto X Force stands when compared to these devices. Based on the specs, let us know your winner in the comments below.

As we can see above, the Moto X Play offers a lot more for a lot less. In the camera and battery department, the Moto X Play has the OnePlus 2 beat, at least on paper. Added to this is the the Moto X Play’s microSD card that allows up to 128 GB more memory, whereas the OnePlus 2 does not. The OnePlus 2 received some flak for its non-removable battery, non-expandable storage, and a regular full-HD display. However, the OnePlus 2 comes with a Snapdragon 810 processor which is far superior than the 615 in Moto X Play. While the former delivers on performance, the latter promises experience.

Both handsets are designed for comfort and offer similar resolution. However, with the Moto X Play starting at a fairly low price of Rs 18,499, and offering a variety of changeable colored back covers, the appeal is greater. Which smartphone would you choose? Let us know in the comments below.

Apple has never failed to woo its users with its fluidity and smoothness in the past. One wonders if it’s likely to happen now as well in the face of tough competition from equally snazzy and up to date tech names like Samsung, Sony, LG and HTC.

Despite not being able to match its competitors in terms of specs and numbers on paper, Apple has always managed to fulfil the demands of the tech world so far. On the launch of the very first iPhone eight years ago in 2007, Steve Jobs had promised to “reinvent the phone”. This promise has indeed been taken care of if statistics are to be believed which suggest that 53% of the smartphone market is dominated by Apple.

iPhone 6s Vs iPhone 6s Plus: What is the Real Difference?

Now that you’ve had a good look at the iPhone 6s, we’re going to move forward to the expected and anticipated iPhone 6s Plus. As Apple tradition goes, the respected iPhone is always released with an upgraded ‘S’ option.

    iPhone 6s 7

We have also seen much of a difference between the previous year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. For example, the iPhone 6 came with a 4.7-inch display while the 6 Plus came with a 5.5-inch one. Apart from this, the 6 Plus also came with a higher resolution and  pixel density, a longer battery life and most importantly the camera that came with the optical image stabilizing technology.

    iPhone 6s 6

What’s the big difference between the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus?

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus had come out with a mind blowing storage capacity of up to 128GB for the high-end models of its two new handsets. Is the iPhone 6s Plus any different? No it isn’t. It comes with the same storage options. But we already told you that before.

  • Spec battle : YU Yunique vs Yuphoria

Spec battle : YU Yunique vs Yuphoria

Do you think Yu’s new Yunique is ready to compete with its own predecessors, leave alone the Chinese smartphone vendors that are currently raging in the Indian market? Let’s find out.

The Yuphoria had caused quite a stir in the market when it released and emerged competent enough to take over Chinese smartphone vendors such as Xiaomi. Yuphoria was priced at Rs.6,999 and came with some impressive specs and features.

It came with a 5-inch IPS HD display with 1280×720 pixel (294ppi) resolution and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64bit chipset and a 1.2GHz  Quad Core, ARM Cortex- A53 processor. . It also came protected by the Gorilla Glass 3 and charged with a 2,230mAh battery. It has a 2GB RAM space and 16GB internal memory which could be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card slot. On the camera front it came with an 8MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera.

Here is a quick spec comparison:

Now, for the phone that has just released today – Yunique.

The Yunique comes with a 4.7 inch display, IPS HD display with a 1280 X 720 pixels, 312ppi resolution. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragn 410 processor with a 1.2gHZ chipset and is run on the Android 5.1.

    Yunique 0

On the camera front it comes with an 8MP rear camera with f/2.0 lens and a 5MP front camera. It can even capture and record videos in full HD with a 1080p resolution at 30 fps.It has an internal storage capacity of 8GB with a 1GB of RAM and comes with 2000mAh battery. Other connectivity options include – Wifi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 & 4G/LTE. This  phine is priced at Rs.4,999.

    Yunique 5

Now, if we compare the two smartphones, we see that the Yunique is not really an upgraded version of the Yuphoria. Yuphoria had offered a 16GB memory that could be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card along with a 2GB RAM, while the Yunique is offering just an 8GB internal memory with 1GB of RAM. One can compare the battery power and screen size too and see the same situation. However, the resolution in the Yunique is slightly better than the Yuphoria, but overall it seems to be not as exceptional, but that seems to be balanced out by its price tag, which is around Rs. 2000 lesser than the Yuphoria.

  • Spec Battle: Moto G (3rd Gen) VS Yu Yureka Plus VS Xiaomi Mi 4i

Spec Battle: Moto G (3rd Gen) VS Yu Yureka Plus VS Xiaomi Mi 4i

Motorola has just launched the long-awaited Moto G. And like many other competitive handsets around, Moto G, too, has seen its fair share of rumours and leaks. The device is available in two variants and will be available on Flipkart by midnight, today.

The device boasts of a 5-inch 720p display with 1280×720-pixel resolution and 294ppi. It is powered by a 1.4GHz Quad core CPU and the processor has been upgraded from Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 to Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, along with an Adreno306 GPU. It is juiced by a 2,470 mAh battery that can last roughly up to a day. The handset is available in two variants- 8GB storage with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage with 2GB RAM.

Camera specifications include a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, Field of view (FOV) up to 76 degrees. The 5MP front camera consists of a f/2.2 aperture and Field v (FOV) 72 degrees Display flash with fixed focus.

We have pitted the Moto G against the smartphones in the similar price bracket. Let us see how it fared.

    Price  Rs.11, 999 for 8GB, Rs 12,999 for 16GB Rs. 9,999 Rs. 12,999

As we can see above, Yu Yureka Plus is apparently leading the way to be the first choice of the market due to the same, or better specs in each category at a much cheaper price. But, Moto G should not be undervalued in this race. We think that by adding features like being waterproof for up to 3 feet for 30 minutes, or just shaking the handset for the camera to start automatically, should take the Moto G (Gen 3) a step forward. And, how can we forget the choice between 10 different coloured shell covers and 5 flip covers that leave us spoiled for choice.

OnePlus One Vs OnePlus 2 : What’s the Real Difference?

The day has finally arrived. OnePlus has released their highly-anticipated follow up to their 2014 OnePlus One, the OnePlus 2. The launch event was showcased exclusively through Virtual Reality technology via specially designed OnePlus VR headsets. All this while, the Chinese start-up had been releasing teasers and trailers to keep their fans occupied ahead of the launch today. These, served the purpose, and managed to create the desired hype.

First, let us see have a quick look at how the OnePlus 2 fares against its elder brother, the OnePlus One.

Miscellaneous  Available in Silk White, Sandstone Black colours; Fingerprint sensor, Reversible USB Type-C Charger
    Price  Rs 21, 999 Rs 22,999/24,999

As we can see in the spec sheet above, there is not much difference between the One and 2. Most of the specs including the screen size, resolution, storage and camera. The OnePlus 2, although, stands out in the terms of its processor and RAM. OnePlus 2 is also the first OnePlus device to feature a Type-C USB port and a fingerprint sensor, that can store five unique fingerprints.

Camera-wise the megapixel number may not have budged, however the company has added an array of useful sensors. The OnePlus 2 comes with a sensor pixel size of 1.3 microns that makes it up to 35% larger than standard smartphone cameras. The new Laser Focus feature also helps to take clear shots in less that 0.3 seconds. It also features the coveted OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation), which has been previously seen in the iPhone 6 Plus.

Just like the specs, the price also barely sees a change. The company had announced that the new handset will not cross more than the price of Rs. 28,500 ($450). Honoring that promise, OnePlus revealed the final launch price of the new OnePlus 2 as Rs. 22,999 for the 16GB variant and Rs. 24,999  for the 64GB variant.

We think the upgraded design and the new camera, RAM, reversible chargerm and fingerprint scanner may be worth the amount, but we’ll only give our final verdict after our full review. Watch this space for more on the new OnePlus 2.

Spec Battle: Yu Yureka Plus VS Lenovo K3 Note VS Xiaomi Mi 41 VS ASUS Zenfone 2

Yu Televentures, yesterday, had unveiled the Yu Yureka Plus. The device, is priced at Rs 9,999, and while the device is not larger than the original Yu Yureka or have bumped up specs, it does include small and significant changes. For instance, the Plus model comes with a 1920x1080px display, as compared to the 720px on the original Yureka. The Plus also gets the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection layer added to the top of the display. Some other improvements include a new camera sensor, made by Sony, and the new white colour finish back panel option, which gives the device a premium look.

With a whole lot of information about the specs, let us see whether the Yu Yureka lived up to its legacy against its contenders in the same budget category:

As we can see in the specs sheet above, the Yu Yureka Plus holds most of the same specs as the Xiaomi Mi 4i and the ASUS Zenfone 2, but only much cheaper. Except in terms of battery, of course. While the Xiaomi and the ASUS handsets rock it out with their 3,000mAh and above battery meter, the Yu Yureka Plus lags behind with only 2,500mAh of battery life. But, you can’t have everything in one package, right?

The phone will go on sale on the 24th of July at 12:00 Noon, at Amazon.in. The Yu Yureka Plus comes in two colour options, the Moondust Grey and the Alabaster White.

Spec Battle: Lenovo K3 Note Vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G Vs Yu Yureka

Today, Lenovo launched its highly anticipated phablet, the K3 Note, at a launch event held in New Delhi. The company had teased ‘Note the Date’ clearly indicating that they had plans on releasing the K3 Note that was launched in China earlier this year.

In the previous post, we mentioned that the Note could go against the likes of Redmi Note 4G and the Yu Yureka. Let us see now, how the K3 Note fares against these well-established handsets:

As we can see above, Yu Yureka is leading out of the three, with its pricing. Almost every spec of the Yu Yureka is as same as the Redmi Note and the K3 Note, yet easier on the pocket. However, Lenovo’s new offering comes with a better display. Before making any bold statements we would like to get our hands on the K3 Note to see what this device is capable of.

Spec Battle: YU Yuphoria vs The Rest of the Budget Blockbusters

Yesterday, Micromax YU showed off its latest smartphone in India; the YU Yuphoria is another amazing product by the company. With the latest smartphone, YU is certain to cement its status in the smartphone domain.

Yuphoria features a decent display of 5-inches with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. As revealed earlier by the firm, it packs a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 with Adreno A306 GPU. The RAM stands at 2GB with internal storage space at 16GB. The best part is that all these specifications are available at an inexpensive price tag of Rs. 6,999.

Let’s check out if Yuphoria takes a dig at other contenders in the budget category:

    Price  Rs. 6,999 Rs. 7,499 Rs. 6,999 Rs. 9,999 Rs. 7,999

As you can see the table above, Yuphoria’s specs are giving a tough time to the best smartphones in the budget segment. It touts a Gorilla Glass 3 protection, which even the Rs. 7,499 Lenovo A6000 Plus doesn’t have. It has LTE connectivity and runs on the latest Cyanogen 12 OS based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. What isn’t mentioned above, is that the smartphone also flaunts a metal frame, which is rarely seen on smartphones in this category.

Yuphoria clearly stands out of the pack, but we will only give our final verdict on its performance after an in-depth review. Stay tuned for that, till then watch our unboxing and hands on with the YU Yuphoria.
