Camera

The new renders also show a different design, with the device having a traditional notch and not the water drop notch seen earlier. On the back, it has the triple rear camera setup, which is consistent with previous leaks. This is a 40 MP + 20 MP + 8 MP setup. The 40 MP sensor has an aperture of f/1.8 and combines four pixels into one for better image quality.

The 20 MP sensor is a telephoto unit with an aperture of f/2.4 and the third is an 8 MP ultra-wide angle sensor. When working together, these cameras enable 5x optical zoom and ultra macro shots. It has a 24 MP  front camera.

The Mate 20 Pro runs on the brand new Kirin 980 SoC, which is Huawei’s upcoming flagship processor. The processor is made with the 7nm process and is will be faster than the latest A12 Bionic form Apple, according to the company. The device will also have two NPUs (Neural Processing Units) which will help in analysing image content, optimising the scene and providing a better photo output.

Battery & Storage

Under the hood, it packs a 4,200 mAh battery and is accompanied by a 40 W charger, which will take it from zero to 70 % in just 30 minutes. The phone also supports wireless charging. Interestingly, the device can also act as a wireless charger for the Huawei Freebuds 2, which will launch alongside the device.

Another surprising addition is the introduction of a Nano Memory Card format. This will be compatible with the Mate 20 Pro, which does not support microSD cards. The Nano cards are smaller when compared to the microSD cards and have capacities of upto 256 GB.

The Mate 20 Pro has an IP68 certification, making it water and dust resistant. The device will run Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.0. It will have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and LTE for connectivity and will be offered in Twilight, black, blue and green.

Price

The device is said to cost 899 pounds for the base 6 GB and 128 GB variant, putting the higher variants at the 1000 pond price mark. It is also rumoured that Huawei will launch a Mate 20X gaming handset at the launch event as well.
