Freshly Leaked Huawei Smartphone Could Be The Mate 30 Pro

Huawei which was once predicted to take over the title of the world’s number one smartphone sometime in 2020, had to face a major setback in the month of May after the US government designated it to an entity list. The US sanction barred all American companies from having any sort of trade relations with the Chinese corporation.

As it seemed everything was going against Huawei, a meeting that took place at the G20 summit between the leaders of two nations, America and China, turned out to be a big sigh of relief for the Chinese company. The US administration led by Donald Trump has allowed American companies to continue selling hardware and software offerings to Huawei until further notice is released.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro RearFreshly, an upcoming flagship grade smartphone from Huawei has been spotted on the micro-blogging website, Twitter. According to the source, the upcoming handset is the Mate 30 Pro which will succeed the praiseworthy Huawei Mate 20 Pro from last year.

The images shared by the tipster present the alleged render of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and a plastic case, which correspond with each other. Huawei Mate 30 Pro Case

The alleged renders reveal that the rear of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro has a minimalist design that house the company branding and a quad camera setup. The quad rear camera setup is housed in a circular arrangement which also features the Leica branding in the middle. Visual inspection suggests that the topmost camera in the Mate 30 Pro will be a zoom lens as seen on the previously launched Huawei P30 Pro.

Other camera sensors are also assumed to match the ones found on the P30 Pro. Going by past experiences, the ‘Mate’ and ‘P’ series of smartphones have had hetergenous camera setup.

In order to verify the renders and speculations of the Mate 30 Pro, we will have to patiently wait until its launch which is expected to happen in the month of October.

  • US$ 500 Ryzen 9 Beats US$ 2000 Intel i9 Processor

    US$ 500 Ryzen 9 Beats US$ 2000 Intel i9 Processor

At the Computex 2019, AMD unveiled the 3rd Gen Ryzen desktop processors which are based on the “Zen 2” architecture. The newly introduced CPUs are manufactured using 7 nm process which is a world first for desktop-grade processors. The 3rd Gen Ryzen lineup currently consists of five offerings which start from US $ 199 and go all the way up to $ 499.

When the 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs were first unveiled, AMD made clear that the company is going ruthlessly after Intel, not only in terms of price but also performance. Surprisingly, the top of the line Ryzen 9 3900X has been spotted on Geekbench and the results registered by the CPU have managed to surpass Intel’s high-end Intel Core i9 9980XE which costs about 4x the former.AMD Ryzen 9 3900x Geekbench

The Ryzen 9 3900X will retail for a price of US $ 499 once it goes on sale later this year, on the other hand, the Intel Core i9 9980XE is currently available for purchase and it costs US $ 1979.

In terms of Geekbench performance, the Ryzen 9 3900X registers a single core score of 5904 and a multi core score of 44849 points. Inversely, team Blue’s i9 9980XE registers a single core score for 5379 points and a multi core score of 46371 points. Clearly, the AMD processor has a  higher single core score out of the two, with slightly lower multi core score.

Although higher benchmarks on the AMD Ryzen 3900X won’t necessarily translate to better performance in real life. As the optimisation of software for a certain architecture is also equally important. Nevertheless, with the price that the high-end Ryzen processor is being offered, users can’t really go wrong if they choose this over Intel’s offering.

To sum it up, AMD with its advanced technology and aggressive pricing has made Intel rethink its strategies which will now have to go back to the drawing board.

Till the time Intel is able to justify its offering by either significantly reducing their price or unveiling new lineup of updated processors, AMD can reap the benefits that it has earned by heavily investing in research.

The US Clears Huawei Off Its Entity List, Can Restore Relations With American Firms

In the month of May, the US Commerce Department designated the Chinese tech titan, Huawei to an entity list. This move revoked all American companies from having any sort of trade relations with the Chinese corporation.

Subsequently, Huawei had to deal with a significant setback as major companies including Google and Microsoft had to withdraw their software support for the former’s hardware offerings. As it seemed things could not get worse, ARM, the British semiconductor and software design company also pulled off the plug. Hence, Huawei could no longer manufacture its Kirin chipsets as they incorporated Cortex architecture which is developed by ARM.

Nevertheless, the reason that induced the ban on Huawei in the first place is that the US government accused the company of installing backdoors on its 5G equipment which was considered as a threat to the national security.

Following a month of turmoil, things may get back on track for Huawei. At the G20 summit which is currently being held in Osaka, leaders of both the countries sat together to discuss trade tensions which has now been de-escalated to some extent. According to reports American president, Donald Trump, for the time being, has allowed US-based companies to restore trade relations with Huawei. Therefore, the Chinese corporation can once again buy products and services from American businesses until further notice. Huawei P30 Pro

Intriguingly, the US government stated that it will hold the tariffs on China which were previously expected to see a significant rise. In return, China will be purchasing huge quantities of agricultural products produced by US locals.

Despite the fact, circumstances have gotten much better for Huawei, at least for now, the company might take some severe steps to ensure it never has to go through such hardships in the future.

Though the company can again register new smartphones with Android OS, it may still decide to launch a handful of devices with Ark OS or HongMeng Os, the companies in house developed operating system. This will allow Huawei to break free from the monopoly that has been created by the American companies.

All in all, not much can be said about the plans that Huawei might have formed during the short yet difficult period it had to endure. Only the future will unravel what lies in store for Huawei.

Though this is definitely a positive report for all Huawei and Honor device owners which are now likely to get extended software support on their smartphones or tablets.

Apple Shifts Mac Pro Production From US To China

At the Apple WWDC 19 event, which was held in the month of June, the company announced its latest Mac Pro computer which is designed for pro consumers, professionals and movie makers. Before the launch of the current gen computer, all Mac Pro machines completed their final assembly in the USA at the Austin, Texas assembly line.

But with the new Mac Pro, Apple is shifting the last stage of assembly of these high-end computers from the United States to China. Noteworthy, even if the last generation Mac Pro was assembled in its home country, components used in it were manufactured in several countries.

According to reports, this effort could help reduce costs related to shipping components to the United States for the last production step. Nevertheless, Apple has partnered with Quanta Computer in China which will be held responsible for finalising assembly of the 2019 Mac Pro future onwards. Users who are unaware can read about the new Mac Pro below:

    Apple Mac Pro

The Apple Mac Pro is a considerably larger machine in comparison to its predecessor, it measures 529 X 450 x 218 mm and tip the scale at 18 KG. It has two steel handles on top which can be used to easily relocate the computer. The case can also be fitted with optional wheels to enable mobility of the system.

According to the company, the new computer offers state-of-the-art cooling with three large fans which can disperse 300 cubics of feet per minute. This will allow the processor and other components to run at maximum power without thermal throttling.

The latest Apple Mac Pro can be configured with the 28 core Intel Xeon processor with 300W of power. In terms of memory, the Mac Pro supports up to 1.5TB of RAM, which can be divided between six-channel memory across 12 DIMM slots (Dual In-Line Memory Module). The machine has eight built-in PCI Express slots which can be used to install upgrades as the need of the user.

The Mac Pro includes 2 USB-C which can also double up as Thunderbolt 3 ports and two USB-A ports that are present on the front of the case. For wireless connectivity, it also has 802.11 ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0

The components of the Mac Pro are powered by a 1400W power supply unit (PSU) which can even compensate for additional components that the user may add in the future. The computer starts at a price of US $ 6000 and it will start shipping later this year.

    Jony Ive Is Quitting Apple

Apple’s Chief Design Officer Sir Jonathan Paul Ive aka Jony Ive has announced his departure from the world’s most valuable company. The senior executive is leaving Apple to start his own design firm which will be called ‘LoveForm’.

Jony Ive joined Apple in the year 1992 and since then has been a crucial contributor in the company’s remarkable growth. The executive was appointed the head of Apple’s design studio in the year 1996 when the company was facing poor financial health and was cutting jobs.

In the year 1998, Apple launched the highly successful iMac G3 desktop computer which was designed by none other than Jony Ive. The success that Apple had acquired with the desktop computer was carried forward to the original iPod in the year 2001 which revolutionised the music industry forever.

Other notable devices that were designed under Jony Ive’s leadership include:

Even though it won’t be feasible to replace the vision of the legendary industrial designer, Apple has already announced Jony Ive’s successors. Yes, you read that right,  after Jony Ive departs from Apple later this year, the company will split the hardware and software design into two separate domains. Since the year 2012, both the departments were supervised by Jonathan Ive.

Although there are hardly any details known about LoveForm, it is reported that the new company will focus on Product design. Noteworthy, Apple will be the first client of the product that LoveForm designs. Besides, another contributor at Apple, Marc Newson will join the newly incorporated firm.

  • Google Goes Overboard With A Foldable Device That Resembles A Textbook

Google Goes Overboard With A Foldable Device That Resembles A Textbook

American multinational company, Google is at the forefront of technology, be it software or hardware. Following the commendable success it has had with Android in the software domain, the company now plans to dip its toes in futuristic hardware as well. At the 2019 Google I/O developers conference, the company announced that it is working on several foldable smartphones or rather foldable devices.

A freshly granted patent to the company goes in line with the previous announcement. Google has been granted a patent for a unique electronic device which surprisingly resembles a textbook. The device is somewhat similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold but with a couple more displays or should we say pages.

Upon close inspection of the patent, it can be divulged that the multiple screens are held together with the main body by a sort of book spine. Speaking of the body, it may be the place where all the electronic components including chipset, motherboard and battery will be placed.

Although any concrete information about the claim cannot be derived. It is even possible that during its initial prototyping stages, the foldable device from Google may be devoid of any internal components. Instead, it could just be used a multi-fold display which is powered and provided transmission information via an external cord.

The fundamental aim behind any foldable device is to pack a large display in a body which is significantly smaller or compact than its actual dimensions. The foldable smartphone/device from Google may be conceptualised to run multiple apps simultaneously. In order to switch between applications, the user could scroll between different displays instead of swiping back and forth between apps.

To sum it all, the concept or technology seems visionary and promising but such a device seems a bit farfetched when considering the development that has been achieved in the field of the foldable display.

However, when and if Google is able to successfully develop a device with these aspects and features, it would rather patent the technology and license it to other OEMs than retailing it own devices.

Samsung To Launch A Second Foldable Phone Before Huawei Mate X Launch

In the month of February, Samsung held the Galaxy Unpacked 2019 event where it unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold alongside the Galaxy S10 lineup, 2. A lot rested on the foldable smartphone’s shoulders as Samsung is the first mainstream company to launch a device with this form factor. However, due to display issues faced by the initial users of pre-sale Galaxy Fold, the company had to push back the launch date of the smartphone to Q2 which was also not met

Following the issues faced by the Samsung Galaxy Fold, Huawei pushed the launch date of its Mate X which was originally set to launch in June. The Mate X has now been set to launch in the month of September.  However, it is unclear whether the step was actually taken to improve 5G integration on the foldable phone, as reported by a senior company executive or due to the trade ban that the US had imposed on Huawei.

Nevertheless, by the time the Huawei Mate X is commercially available, Samsung will reportedly launch its second foldable phone that also has an outward folding mechanism, similar to the former.

According to a report published by the Korea Herald, Samsung had a working prototype of an outward foldable smartphone in the year 2017. Instead, it opted for an inner folding device and rather unveiled the current gen Galaxy Fold. The report further states that Samsung is currently working on a variety of foldable smartphones which include a clamshell-like design, as seen on the Moto Razr renders. Notably, Samsung is planning about bringing these foldable smartphones to the market, as soon as early 2000.

The outward foldable Samsung phone could be similar to the one that the company patented a few days ago. These Renders Of The Google Pixel 4 Mini Look Amazing

Google is gearing up for the launch of its flagship smartphones, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL which are expected to launch in the month of September. Besides the two high end devices, the company is also rumoured to launch a smaller handset which might be called the Pixel 4 Mini.

New concept renders of the device have been shared on Twitter by user PhoneDesigner. Although the renders are based on leaks and reports which lack any real evidence, they look enticing enough that Google must draw inspiration from, if it ever plans to build a miniature variant of the Pixel smartphones.

According to the concept renders, the Google Pixel Mini 4 has a compact form factor which will easily fit even in hand of users that have the smallest of hands. The bezels around the display of the device are almost negligible which provide it with an appealing look. The rear of the alleged Pixel 4 Mini seems to made out of glass that houses the company logo and a square camera module. Like the Pixel 4, the smaller device also features dual rear cameras and a dual LED flash. Speaking of ports and buttons, the device has a bottom mounted USB C port and a right side mounted power button.

Besides, the user had previously shared another set of renders of the Pixel 4 Mini which also has a fascinating design. The key difference between the two render sets is a punch hole camera which was first introduced with the Galaxy A8s. Furthermore, the rear of the device in this render looks more like the Pixel 3 lineup rather than the official Pixel 4 teasers.

Google is yet to confirm whether the smaller Pixel 4 Mini smartphone will ever see the light of the day or not. Till the time precise details about the device are revealed by the company itself, we recommend taking these reports and renders with a grain of salt.

  • Apple Hires Ex ARM CPU Architect, Could Launch ARM Based Mac By 2020

Apple Hires Ex ARM CPU Architect, Could Launch ARM Based Mac By 2020

Claims in the past have suggested that Apple is developing ARM based Mac computers which will replace Intel processors. The company has hired one of ARM’s top CPU architect, Mike Filippo who led the development of several chips at the latter corporation between 2009 and 2019.

With the wealth of chip making the new Apple recruit brings, reports about the aforementioned ARM based Mac computers may soon turn into a reality. Users who are unaware, ARM is the company responsible for developing Cortex cores which are found on most Android mobile chipsets.

As previously mentioned, Apple designing its own ARM-based processors will allow the company to move away from Intel processors which are currently seen on all its offerings. Besides, sources within Intel have confirmed to Axios ( an American News Website) that Apple plans to transition to ARM architecture based Macs starting 2020.

As of now, the A series chipsets found on the iPhone and iPad are developed in house by Apple. Furthermore, the custom T2 security chip present in the latest Mac models is also developed in house. Some benefits that Apple will reap upon switching to self-developed ARM processors are as follows:

    • Due to the same underlying hardware architecture, applications designed for iOS i.e iPhone, iPad or iPod will be compatible with Mac computers. Furthermore, Apple in the past has showcased ‘Project Catalyst’ which is intended toward unifying and cross compatibility between MacOS and iOS apps.
    • It won’t be wrong to assume that this move will help the company to save up production costs as in house developed components are generally more economical. Besides if the company decides to pass on the benefit to customers by lowering prices of its offerings. This will result in a sales boost for Mac computers.
    • Apple iPhones are generally considered more secure than its Android counterparts, because of a closed ecosystem between software and hardware which are both developed by the same company. Likewise, Mac computers which are already regarded for a high level of security will become even more secure with a combination of proprietary software and hardware.

All in all, the idea of a Mac computer with ARM processor doesn’t seem farfetched at all. Aside from the fact, the current gen iPad Pro with A12x Bionic SoC is regarded as powerful as a MacBook Pro with an i7 processor. With the high end tablet computer,  Apple has proved that ARM computers can not only provide a better battery backup, they are on par in terms of processing with dektop grade CPUs.

Oppo Showcases A Smartphone With Invisible Selfie Camera

Since early June, Oppo has been boasting of a smartphone with an invisible front camera. After much hype and anticipation, the technology has finally been unveiled and a prototype device with the visionary feature is currently on display at MWC Shanghai.

As the name suggests, an under display camera or invisible camera stays hidden from the human eye as it is covered by a display on the top that has operational light pixels above which conceals the photosensor. The technology was previously conceptualised by Samsung suggests this patent. Although, the Korean Giant is yet to reveal details about the technology.

The successful development of an under display camera is a praiseworthy feat for Oppo as it is the first company in the world to pioneer this technology.  According to the video shared by Oppo, the concerning light pixels above the front camera become transparent as soon as the camera sensor is toggled. This intern allows light to pass through and the sensor beneath is able to capture images or videos.
